As a result of events today I have reviewed the listing policy and believe it
needs a re-think. It is incomplete and vague on variants for example which is
distorting the price guide even further than the taxes, vat and other current
arguments.

Example look for 30389b - you find lots of sellers in Europe listing this part
but then they claim not to differentiate between b and c. Guys this is not helpful
by a long shot. People looking for this part have to constantly ask the seller
are they b's or c's and get a reply - we don't differentiate. Well
then do not list them as b's or c'.

I realise this is a problem for the CAT admins but there should be a better way
of listing these items or stores should be made to differentiate (and I am not
suggesting that as a solution - but come on - how long does it take to check
whether it is an 'x' or a + axle hole?)

We are all supposed to be professional stores on the site. Check your variants
and get the listing correct or CAT admins give us a solution so they do not have
to be listed as a specific variant and do not effect the price guide or even
more importantly the buyer.

I think that these (and many other) mold variants are not the biggest problem.
Much more concerning is the situation with old and new colors, e.g. Old Dark
and Light Gray as compared to Dark Bluish Gray and Light Bluish Gray, or Old
Brown as compared to Reddish Brown.

It happened a lot to me that I order parts in Reddish Brown and get them in Old
Brown. This is disturbing, because I do only use Reddish Brown and Dark Brown.
It would need some tool that helps stores to unambiguously determine whether
parts they have are in Reddish Brown or Old Brown and the same for other color
variants that may be easily mixed up.

I think that these (and many other) mold variants are not the biggest problem.

It varies on a case by case basis. And even for the same parts and same person,
sometimes variants don't matter and sometimes they do.

I was after some 1x1 tiles with clips for using with modulex as in this article:

http://www.newelementary.com/2018/11/old-elementary-modulex-integration_15.html

and getting the right ones was a real pain (especially as BL doesn't differentiate
a-b-c in the photo) but does have a note. I have too many of the ones labelled
b and even got some of the e ones. I can understand the confusion between a,
b and c as even when they are directly in front of you they appear so similar,
so if you only have one type deciding which one it is can be difficult.
