Hello,

I recently opened a Bricklink shop to sell minifigs and some parts. I am considering
to add the ability to pickup orders in my 'store' (ie. at my house).
I am not sure how to go about it though. And on a related note; is this a recommended
practice?

Would this be how to do it?:
- Add cash payment option
- Add shipping option with manual configuration (and if so, how?)

Thanks!

People contact me all the time, asking me where I am located and if local pickup
is available. I usually say yes, but that in many cases, the fuel to drive here
is no cheaper than shipping. If I put this in my terms, I would simply write:
"Ask about local pick up".

However, even with local pickup, I insist on payment through paypal. I guess
I don't want a situation where I end up dickering on my doorstep about cost,
or trying to find change for a $20.00 bill. I am also not pulling an order until
I have received payment.

I have used it with over 25+ buyers in my area - some have picked up from my
house, most meet me. Not once have I ever had any issues with change or price
disputes, but then again I keep a lot of change in my car in the case of this.
Most bring exact change or even a little tip or even up to the next dollar if
they pay cash, some use paypal or stripe.

I do also use the 'pull after receiving payment' process for low or 0
feedback buyers, but that's only for long distance orders. Most local buyers
that want to meet will contact me (or I'll contact them if I see they are
in the same city) before I have a chance to process the order, so I know they
are 'ghost buyers' that order and then are never heard from again.

The manual invoice for this option would work if you use instant checkout. I
am still all manual invoice, and I do run into snags having as a payment option
as since it will default as the shipping method if the buyer doesn't specify.
I typically just fix it or tack on shipping during the invoice. I did research
the forums a while back after IC came out to see if there's a way to prevent
it from being the default, but didn't see anything.

HI there - we have about a dozen customers who regularly collect their orders
from our offices. They pay by credit card, cash or paypal - they always let
us know when they will be there to collect and they all like to have a look around
and chat as well. Never any problems whatsoever

Yeah, it's fun. I just have a pickup shipping method that has no shipping
charges except for €1 handling. I then round down the amount so it's easy
to pay if they want to do it cash. I also have a cash payment option. Both the
pickup shipping method and the cash payment option are rarely picked by buyers,
but at least they haven't been picked by mistake yet, so it works alright.

Not sure if it's officially allowed but as long as it's not every day..

I have local pickup set up as a shipping option with "$0" being the cost.

I usually have it turned off, which is what I advise. I find that when I leave
it on it gets clicked accidentally and I receive orders for 3000 miles away marked
with "local pickup".

Thank you all for the info. Really helpful!

I guess I'll just let people contact me for now. I'll experiment with
the cash payment option as it would be convenient to automate local pickups as
well.

Anyway thanks for the advice!
