Hello everybody,

Just a friendly reminder that we are now in the final week of the AFOL Designer
Program. After June 30, we will stop selling ADP sets and they will be classified
as officially out of production.

Many of our customers have expressed confusion over the "backordered" status
of most of the remaining 12 sets. "Backordered" means that we do not have any
of these items in stock for immediate shipment, but we will manufacture them
at a later date.

So please, don't feel that you can't order something because it is in
"backordered" status. If you don't place an order this week, you will miss
your chance to buy it from us.

Here is the page where you can browse:

Thanks for your support!

I have a legitimate question:

I placed a pre-order during the appropriate period, but as of yet, have not received
a charge for the items nor notification of their shipment.

The sets are currently reading as "backordered" both on the ADP page and My Pledges.

Does your above statement mean that any new orders will be backordered
or are even my ordered sets (pre-ordered during the window) are on backorder
as well?

If the sets I pre-ordered are now on backorder, this raises some contentious
issues surrounding your preparedness for this venture.

If not, then I shall happily await the charge and the shipment.

There was an email sent out by BL on April 19th that stated:

"Dear backer,

First and foremost, thank you to all of the backers in our wonderful community.
Without you, these amazing 13 designs would never have come to life. These designs
are being realized because of you.

As backers of the AFOL Designer Program, we want to keep you informed and keep
you updated on the production of these realized designs. We are now finalizing
the instructions and packaging for each design. We have already set up our packing
facilities and are doing our best to maximize production capacity.

We originally planned to start shipping in May, and we are confident we can meet
that goal. We have designed a tight production schedule wherein each design is
produced and packed in batches. This means you might receive some designs before
others, but don’t worry — the shipping for pre-orders is still free.

However, the community’s response to the AFOL Designer Program was larger than
we expected. What this means to all our backers is that there will be a delay.
We will try to fill orders as quickly as possible, but according to our most
recent projections, some orders will not be shipped until as late as end
of summer
.

You will be notified as soon as your design is ready to be shipped and we will
not charge you until your order is ready to ship. We’re shipping out designs
in the order in which pledges were made, so if you pre-ordered on day one, you’ll
be one of the earliest people to receive your order.

As you know, this is a pilot program for us and we are learning and refining
as we go. We want to thank you for your patience and your continuous support.

BrickLink Team"

BTW: I believe this was still during the pre-order period. I went ahead and
underlined/bold the important section.

AFAICT, the set are “assembled” (parts put in bags, bags and instruction in a
box) one by one, and shipped when ready (and charged “when” shipped).

So I don’t get the difference that would make you happy between “labelled ‘backordered’,
not charged, not shipped, because the product hasn’t been ‘assembled’ yet” and
“not labelled, not charged, not shipped, but the product hasn’t been ‘assembled’
yet either”

My understanding is they are fullfilling the sets in a certain order as well.
For example the fire truck was one of the first and I got mine a long time ago.

Why do you send the same item not as one package? Now I had to pay twice administration
Douane costs. How can I receive these extra costs back?

On the one hand, you quoted it yourself: they are not responsible, you are.
“Tough luck!”

On the other hand, you’re right, they could at least have sent the same sets
in one package, that would have limited the “handling” fee.

On the third hand (yep, freaky), no one told them there were fixed fees for each
package… oops, indeed, some people told them. Too bad they didn’t care.

I think part of the problem is that (at least for the set I purchased) it was
double boxed inside two custom printed cardboard boxes. They couldn't fit
two sets in one box if they wanted to and would have to use a 3rd larger box
to fit multiple sets in.
