Bricklink needs to change the way the login/accounts function works. As a medium
sized store with an owner and 3 employees we need to allow the employees to log
into Bricklink and update store inventory, prices etc almost every day and as
things currently stand they have to use the owners login details (Poor security).
SQL, which is used for the database has quite a good security system built in
so even if we went native with that, it would be better than the current situation.

What is the suggestion here, that you can have "minion" sub-accounts that can
access some functions but not others?

The same thing applies for stores with multiple locations - we have two processing
centres - one where all of our Lego inventory is stored, picked etc and one where
orders are packed and shipped from. Hence we want to set up a shipping from address
and a shipping to address. The fact that not all stores support the alternate
address system on Bricklink, as it currently stands means the only real way to
do this is using alternates on Paypal (for those that use Paypal).

Why not just use the ship to address? Does it matter if a buyer thinks you are
shipping it from location A when in reality it comes from location B? Surely
any returns eventually go to the storage location A and not the packing location
anyway.

Good morning and thank you for taking the time to comment.

The multiple logins for each store would allow us to set up our employees and
give them certain functions - not complete administration which they have now
due to logging in with the single account. Not sure I would want to call them
minions though.

The ship to and ship from addresses are not used as you outline them so perhaps
we didn't explain that properly. When we buy items they are not always destined
for the storage centre, so to save going back and forth all deliveries go to
the order packing centre - are processed there and then whatever needs to go
to the other site goes and what doesn't doesn't. Hope I have made that
clearer. We cope at the moment by instructing the stores we buy from to send
to the paypal address not the Bricklink one but from time to time they miss that
and send it to the storage area which delays things.

So in summary - multiple logins to the stores with security/control permissions
and a minimum of 2 address for each store - one for ship from and 1 for ship
to.

The above would be a nice to have for us.... but had to vote no because of the
below.

As an afterthought it might not be a bad idea to allow store owners to have two
accounts - one for buying and one for selling, with the appropriate feedback
associated with each function. This might make a difference as to how people
look at a situation - In our case we have over 800 buying feedback and over 2000
selling feedbacks.

Robert

Interesting Robert - can you elaborate? We know you can see the individual feedbacks
as to buying or selling by looking at the feedback profile but if they had a
facility for this it would save time and issues with a number of us.

Have suggested this direct to Bricklink development and whilst the response has
been positive so far we are still waiting for either a confirmation that it will
become available (and when) or a reason why it cannot be done.

We have had good feedback from several of the UK's stores and wonder what
others around the globe feel.

This should give us the ability to deal with our inventories on a more accurate
basis and , if there are any gremlins in Bricklink's system, point them out.

Thoughts?

We currently log individual part transaction history (inward and outward) using
the API, so it's definitely doable, but there are obviously more pressing
tasks for the development team. Nothing to stop sellers doing it for themselves
if they have a mind to do so.

To that end, I'd be interested to know if there's any serious interest
from sellers for a non-programmer's guide to utilising the BL API?

As a recently converted non-programmer myself, it's something I've considered
writing, but with free time being a finite resource, it all too easy to find
reasons for not embarking on such a project, especially when the potential audience
for such a manual is unknown.

Hello there and thank you for joining the conversation.

We do the same but use an in-house developed application (Access) to records
ins and outs. We also run inventory checks on every order but we still find there
are discrepancies - far too many to be human error only. If it is doable and
we knew it was, then they should do it now - just as they are taking all these
sidewards steps on their development plans, this is a key one for the stores
and it helps them as well in so much as people should be able to trace the issues
much more easily.

We have offered to provide the query for them to extract the information (we
are a SQL Software house), provided they share the db scheme with us and are
waiting for a further response from Marvin at development.

A short time ago someone e3lse provided a non-programming guide to adding templates
to Brickstock. From what I understand from him (we used it and found it very
helpful) not many others took it up.

Looks like it could be useful. But for stores doing 100s if orders per month,
it will be a very large file. Given how slow BL has been on and off recently,
we need assurance that the infrastructure can handle it. If everyone started
downloading a six month report every day, then there could be trouble. Maybe
it's use would need to be restricted.

Hello there and thanks for joining in with this suggestion. Putting restrictions
on this would defeat the purpose. It is up to Bricklink to sort out their infrastructure
- which has been a menace recently.

I agree that a report telling you about the new lots that you can either save
or print would help enormously when putting items away.

I am not sure that Bricklink does store the part out value of a set historically,
it just presents the value to you at the time.

Hello there and thank you for taking the time to comment on our suggestion. As
Bricklink allows you to group prices by month, it must hold the information somewhere.
If it doesn't it is poor database design.

Perhaps Ryan or someone involved with the scheme could comment on that as it
would be useful to know.

Thought I would try this one more time. Currently if you use the price guide
to look at the value of parting out a set you get a figure for its value and
how many new lots will get added to your inventory.

We would like to see a simple little screen or report based result of the work
that Bricklink has done as far as determining which lots are the new one. This
helps us enormously in determining how we approach parting out.

Secondly and equally as important to us is the need to be able to follow the
value of the sets as they are parted out over time. So when the set was launched
it had a higher part out value than 6 months later, in some cases there are also
times when the set is much more valuable later on. This would help us as a store
to determine how long before we part out various sets that we have stock of.
At the moment we have a very crude offline system which gives us the result of
parting out at the date when we did it. Bricklink has all this data in its database
- surely we should be able to get at it as a valuable tool for the stores.

Remember without stores there would be no Bricklink !!! (I know the same applies
to buyers)

For some time now we have had considerable difficulty in reconciling the fees
statement to our accounts system. The fees are always paid - there is no problem
there, but the fact that it is a summary rather than detail and the conversion
rates may or may not be different it makes it a job rather than just a quick
check.

We would like to see each store given the option to receive either the summary
or a detailed breakdown. The detailed breakdown should include each order the
store is being charged for the date and value of that order and the calculated
fee + currency conversion rate.

Those of us who do not deal in dollars would like that information available.
Those who don't require it can remain with the summary.

If the fees program is within the code for Bricklink, this should not be a complicated
change as it has all the info already. If it is in another system that would
have to be looked at but even today's most simple billing programs allow
for this type of information to be presented.

Would like to suggest several improvements to the messaging system that Bricklink
uses.

1. Enable HTML Mail (rather than just plain text)
2. Allow attachments
3. Provide forward capability
4. Allow CC or BCC addressees
5. Provide default set up so we can have messages of all kinds sent to store
email address, rather than having to mark each individual message to be sent
to our e-mail address.

All of the above are capable within SQL mail but if they are difficult to implement,
consider changing the system - Mail/Messaging is a very valuable tool and in
today's business world we need to have a first class system. The current
system is very old, in many circumstances, not totally reliable and very restrictive.
It is time for change.

I am sure there are other capabilities that people want to see - feel free to
add them if you think this is a suggestion that should be carried forward.

Currently what you see is a summary of feedbacks received over weekly, monthly
and yearly columns as well as a breakdown of 'selling' and 'buying'.
We would like to see two additional columns added one for the number of purchase
orders and one for the number of sales orders.

This would allow an approximate percentage to be calculated for how high or low
the feedbacks to orders relationship is. We have guessed that it is somewhere
around the 60% figure over all - in other words you will get or give feedback
on 60% of your orders be they placed or received.

You can do this manually by going to the store and looking at the banner for
number of orders - but that is only for sales and it means changing between screens.

This would be a welcome and simple improvement to the summary page, which we
use all the time.

In my opinion the only one that knows if an order is 100% completed is the Buyer,
not the Seller. Only the buyer can change status to received, but both buyer
and seller can change status to completed.

Status Received:
Package has been received but the buyer has not yet verified the contents on
the package.

As a buyer I Always use this, until I verified the contents, which can take a
while, depending on how many orders I receive at once, how big the orders are
and if I can find time to check.

I like it to have this great reminder to do so:
... Orders received, change status when completed

Now I experienced several times, that the seller changed status to completed.
Which is not correct, because I still didn't check the order yet. Besides
I now lost my reminder which tells me I still have to verify this order and leave
feedback.

As a seller I understand that it's nice to know when an order is completed
and that buyer's do change order status, but it's not up to the seller
to decide if an order is received and 100% correct.

My Suggestion:

Only allow the Buyer to change status to Completed.

Diana

The idea/concept is sound, however too many buyers 'never change the status
to completed for this to work. Even buyers who provide excellent feedback leave
the status thing as Received, rather than changing it completed.

Something along these lines is required but allowing just the buyer will cause
issues.

We would like to suggest some changes to the orders pages, both printing and
downloading.

1. The current order printouts are taking up a lot of paper (and toner etc).
If I download the order into Brickstock for example I can reduce the number of
pages by 40 to 50% but I cannot get same sort order. Brickstock is severely limited
on its sorting capabilities at the moment. We have asked Patrick Brans to look
at this as a matter of urgency, but he seems to be quite tied up with his normal
job at present.
2. If we download the order from Bricklink to a spreadsheet file we lose the
images and the quantity remaining - and both of those fields are used in the
picking process - we do not want to lose them. We have tried all the different
download formats and none of them provide or bring either of the fie4lds with
them.

So the suggestions are:

1. Improve the order printing process and allow more flexibility in where we
place the columns etc. This can be done as Allan Smith has produced a great order
template for Brickstock which is how we have been able to reduce the number of
pages per order - we still get everything we had with the Bricklink Order printout
(Except quantity remaining)and it all fits on one A4 Portrait page much better
that the existing printout from Bricklink.

2. Give us a way to incorporate the image and quantity remaining fields and data
in the download capabilities.

Either of these 'solutions' will solve the problem, save money and time
on the printing side and be a significant improvement to the current process.

We are aware that some stores do not print their orders at all any more - they
simply work from a tablet or computer screen - but in our case this isn't
really possible - we need that picking list as our storage and distribution centre
is not in the same location as the rest of the order processing.

Neither of the above suggestions would take a great deal of coding changes and
we see them as an excellent improvement to the site.

Can you not print 2 or 4 up?

We can but that reduces the size of the printed order and isn't ideal - we
did look at that - our printers are duplex enabled. I am going to insert an image
into this post to show what we want (from our order template in Brickstock)

It would be very nice if we could actually filter this page. Things like lets
only see the feedback from a specific country or lets see the feedback as a buyer.

This would be helpful as it doesn't appear possible any other way at present.

We have had some new customers who have come from countries where we don't
normally receive orders and the customers are showing lower feedback than we
are comfortable with for fairly large orders.

Would be nice to see if anyone else, for example, in the UK has served these
customers, without having to scroll through the feedback until you either recognise
a store or look up each store.

The same also applies to buyers.

Would like to see the Bricklink messaging system offer options for plain Text,
Rich Text and html if possible. This would allow the use of formatting where
required or needed.

Can we please have a print button/feature within the part out function as those
of us who keep records outside of Bricklink have to spend a great deal of time
recording the values set for each of the elements of a set - this is both time
consuming and sorely out of date.

I have a suggestion which would help the search catalogue feature enormously
(from my point of view). If I am searching to identify a part in a easily recognized
colour - say white or black then I am looking at nearly all the categories that
exist to go through and unless I am quite lucky to either remember or guess I
would have to go through all of them. What if instead of just a multi column
list there were check boxes next to each category and you could choose all or
a number of to include in your search. This would cut down the time spe4nt in
trying to find the product.

If you know the category fine then go straight to it and browse the items until
you find it, but if you do not, then finding it becomes quite long winded and
tedious as well as time consuming. Hence mine and a lot of other peoples use
of the forum for identification.

Anybody else agree?

We have commented on this on several occasions but events over the last couple
of weeks means it has to be re-stated.

We need a much stronger inventory system on Bricklink. A transaction log of inventory
movements is essential. Too many things keep suggesting there are problems with
the current system.

We have an outside system which helps us to keep track of what we add and what
we remove (a reflection of sales, and purchases, parting-out etc.); hence we
can track individual items by item, colour and condition - where they came from;
who bought them etc. This has yet to balance with our Bricklink inventory and
we cannot understand why. Short of doing a complete inventory (and that on 200k+
parts is very time consuming and problematic), we cannot understand the differences
that continue to happen.

We have turned on all the features that currently exist in the system to help
with the tracking of stock movements and as we process all orders, we double
check the items left and where appropriate make adjustments. But even those adjustments
do not seem to bring things to being correct. Lots and lots of examples of the
problems this has been causing and we are sure others are experiencing this as
well.

A stock movements log/report could help to resolve these issues not only for
us but for all stores. As we have a SQL database behind the UI, this is not a
difficult thing to create or make available. If the development team behind the
work is listening, please ensure this is a very high priority on the list of
required features. As inventories grow and get more complex (wider variety of
parts) it is more than essential to have good controls and systems in place.

When we have posted this as a suggestion in the past, the majority of people
who have commented have agreed that this is an important feature that needs to
be added. We hope that view continues.

Nice idea!

Can we expand this to include zero inventory/stockroom? I may have already created
the lots but sold out of the parts. This would help me see which sets to acquire
to fill the gaps in my inventory.

Good addition - I agree.

Is this lots that are new to you as a seller (ie. you need a new box / bag to
store), or new parts available?

New lots available to us as sellers.

Couple of things which would certainly help us with regards to the set inventories.

1. A by category summary at the end (Make this an option to display/print)
2. A 2nd level sort Sort by part and then colour

There are a wide, no very wide range, of improvements that we would like see
made to inventory and inventory control, but perhaps this isn't the place
to put those forward.

It would be very useful/helpful if within the inventory lists, we could see a
summary of Bricklink categories and colours. This is now available at Brickset,
but they are not using the Bricklink cats or colours.

It would help people when they are looking at parting out sets or for that matter
buying them.

Comments?

You can do this yourself by downloading an inventory and working on it in Excel
or something similar but it would be better and simpler to do it at source. It
is quite a simple process in SQL.

It would be helpful if when we want to go to a specific item in our inventory
we could use the element id for that part to go right there rather than paging
through many pages looking for the item.

Example - Use 4211415 to go to Tile 1 x 2 in Light Bluish Gray.

It would also be useful if, when using the inventory page, you could choose specific
items to update:

Example - Want to go in and update all 3001 (Brick, 2 x 4) with a tiered pricing
structure. Can't seem to find a way to do that at present, other than manually.

Just a couple of post Christmas thoughts.

Have noticed other posts for this subject recently and would like to re-iterate
one we tabled a long time ago.

There needs to be an audit trail of inventory movements for each store, showing
ins/outs, date, quantity, colour, condition and price set. This will help inventory
control enormously. Currently if you have a 'lot' (Unique part no, colour
and condition) it stays as that lot forever. If you sell out of that particular
item and then add another one you get a new lot. The only information that appears
to be available from that is lot specific e.g. when you added it and when you
last sold it. It doesn't tell you the last time you added additional ones
or give any kind of transactional movement for that item.

In simple terms this is 'stock movements' and despite the3 complications
both progamming and otherwise, it should be an essential part of the new system.

If we are going to put all our eggs for inventory control into one basket (e.g.
Bricklink), then there should be a much stronger inventory management system
behind it.

These features go beyond Brickstore and any other system we have looked at since
opening our store, but they would certainly help to control inventories, or at
least be able to trace something.

As we understand the existing database uses SQL server to hold its data and a
very old (progamming language) for its front end, we hope the new development
retains the SQL back end and uses a much more modern web based language for the
front end.

I am not sure these have all been covered completely before or it may have
been in several different items/issues, but we would like to see the following
improvements in the next release of Bricklink.

1. Improve the colour samples to include larger swatches, Lego Colour Name; Pantone;
CMYK, RGB. It might even help to include the Peeron Colour name. Colours are
very important to lots of people and they also have a direct bearing on pricing
(unlike Lego)
2. Improve the images in the catalogue both small and large. Remove sketches
and where there are subtle differences between parts e.g. ....a and ....b make
it clear what those are (in photos of course).
3. Major issue with tire and wheel identifications. The relationship idea helps
somewhat as does the visual wheel thing, but neither are complete and they are
not kept up to date. Where Lego has a part number fine, but many do not or it
is impossible to read. Considering Lego are the world's largest tire manufacturer
we should do better here.
4. Our age old - please allow multiple users to have access to the stores. The
larger the store, the more likely there is more than one person dealing with
it and all of the individuals need to be able to get in with different permissions,
as required. We are based in two locations and share access to the store at both.
That is not ideal, as you can imagine, and of course with only one login everyone
can do everything.

There are many. many more itmes to be dealt with but the suggestion forum does
not seem to be the best place to get things moving.

Just a thought for consideration:

Inventories currently have a summary at the end of them showing no of parts and
no of figures as well as alternate parts.

It would be a nice parameter driven option to be able to see a summary of colours
and categories (user could choose either or both). Something like:

Include Colour summary
Include Category Summary

This way at a glance you could see how many different colours were in the set
and which categories it covers. Bearing in mind this is a SQL database this is
a simple extension to what we already have.

I am sure both admin and development have had a lot of messages concerning the
next release, and I am also sure they have their own agenda of priorities e.g.
making the site secure etc., however; I would like to put another point to them
for consideration.

As the back end of the site is a SQL database and we are SQL people, we would
like to see much more use of the capabilities which exist within the database
itself. For example when we go to catalogue - color guide and look at the page
we would like a sort option to appear so that the information can be sorted by
color name; no parts, no sets, wanted, etc. In an ideal world the headings for
each of the columns woluld simply need to be clicked on to arrange the sort.
This applies to not only the color guide but also in other areas on the site
e.g. inventory, orders etc.

We would also like to see a way to use the data mining capabilities e.g. what
part comes in the most colours? Or which category is most associated with a particular
color or group of colours e.g. Star Wars - grays etc;

There are very long winded ways of doing some of the above at present, but it
would be very helpful if thoughts could go into how we make this an easier process
in the next release.

When I mentioned this in an earlier post, someone suggested a management reporting
capability (either online or offline)- maybe something like Brickstore (but
something that would be supported and or looked after)

I will also go back to a very old suggestion which is becoming increasingly more
important to us. We need the ability to have multiple logins to our store with
permission capabilities set up against each login - from administrator to clerical.
We now have two separate locations for our Lego store - one for picking and one
for packing and processing. Both need access to the store and orders and without
using my login we cannot achieve that. As we continue to grow the store (2,000
items at launch and over 91,000 now)this capability has become more important
and, of course, thee is no real way around it other than using the owner's
login and password.

The entire philosophy behind Bricklink was to provide an opportunity for the
Lego people around the world to acquire what they need in the simplest fashion
possible. The next release needs to go much further in making this process simpler
and easier, not only for the buyher but also the sellers and the 'Bricklink
Experts' that are out there.

Anybody else got any thoughts on this and other features/requirements for the
next release?

3001 Black .12
Blue .10
Red .11

Etc - we would want to choose the part no and at a glance see which colour is
meast or most expensive . Does that help?

I see what you want- but why?
Are you stiing on piles of pieces, looking for the right time to list them?

One way to find this currently would be to scroll through the items for sale.
list them by price, and then the cheapest color is first, next cheapest is second,
etc.
Kind of clunky but it would answer the question.

We are familiar with the download process but there is still a lot of work to
do once the file has been downloaded. What I was after was a way we could do
this easily from within Bricklink, like a management reporting service or tool
which was available to the community. It doesn't appear that there is.

Thanks for your comments and interest in the query.

It would be useful to be able to filter the feedback pages by type e.g. see all
feedback for this member as a buyer or seller. Say something like see feedback
as (drop down list) Seller; Buyer; . The default could remain the same e.g. both.

Already exists, below the page:
- Show me feedback that .... left about Brickwilbo
- S/B indicates whether .... was the Seller or Buyer in that transaction

Or do you mean on the posted feedback page?
Something like: Show me feedback that .... left about .....
That would be a great feature.

It would also be useful when you do a catalogue enquiry and bring up a part e.g.
3001 to see the quantities on sale (by colour) broken into two columns new and
used rather than just a single column.
New Used
Black 25 300

I always get two colums in the Price Guide.

  Comments?

Thanks for your response. I mean on the posted feedback page.

I didn't explain myslf very well on the two columns bit. It is not the price
guide page - I get two columns there as well. It is on the item page. If you
go to the catalogue and use keyword 3001 and then select the 2 x 4 brick 3001
you get a page which shows the number of 3001's for sale in the various colours.
After each colour there is a figure in brackets which represent the total number
of 3001's in that coulour currently for sale. What I would like is to see that
figure broken down to new and old. That would be really helpful.

Can this be included in the next release of Bricklink please?

You are exactly right Robert. My intentjion and point was in no way meant to
breach TOS. As stores grow and get bigger (and that is most people's aim) then
there is a need to exert control over individuals who you delegate responsibilities
to. For example, at one of our two locations,,they do most of the order picking
- at the other they do listings etc. SQL has its own built in security and I
would not expect to have to go outside this application to bring something like
this in.

4 users, 2 locations, all with different login on 1 account.

go and it would be very helpful if we were able to say how many 3001's in Black
do we have on order and from whom.

Anybody else agree.

Already possible: http://www.bricklink.com/orderSearch.asp?a=p

Thanks - didn't know that was there and it worked !!!!

Our store now has 4 individuals in it and is over two locations, which is beginning
to cause a problem. Everyone logs in as the main login so they have access to
inventory, orders etc. They also have complete control over oujr site once logged
in. Knowing SQL databases, it should be relatively simple and straightforward
to add multiple users for a site and provide them with various permissions as
appropriate.

Can this be included in the next release of Bricklink please?

I do know nothing is ever as simple as it appears when it comes to programming
and any Microsoft product but .....

go to My Bricklink Download (to TXT OR to CSV ) ????

Yes but there is no where to choose dates. That file is the result of ins and
outs. We want to see the transactions beihdn the file. We get sales from the
orders, but we do not get anything for adding to our inventory.

It would be helpful if thee was a way to sort the display on the inventory summary
page. For example, when you change to by colour, I would like to see my colours
ordered by high to low or low to high. Bricklink 2 maybe?

Currently when you search the catalogue for a particular piece, you can choose
the category e.g. Brick Decorated and then when that result returns, you can
choose to refine that by saying 3009*, for example. This would then show you
all the 3009 decorated bricks.

A suggested improvement to this would be to add another level of search within
the results such as 3009* with the string 'Police' or 'Taxi'. This would narrow
the search down considerably and save lots of time for those of us who work our
way through many kilos of unsorted pieces.

As the catalogue is based on a SQL database, to add this level is simply adding
a further 'where' condition.

Tried to run some coorelation analysis between the number of e-mails sent out
on a 'notify run' and the number of new orders from that. Unfortunately could
not do more than this last one as there doesn't appear to be anywhere you can
find out details of each of your 'notify's' It would be very helpful in the new
version if this could be accomodated.

It would also help sellers to understand the relationship between a notify and
an order.

It would be very helpful if the Bricklink inventory allowed for a level above
category. For example there are several types of Bricks, e.g. arch, modified,
etc. These still remain as Bricks, however, the same as slopes, technic etc.
Having a level above current category e.g. Inventory family Bricks contains all
the categries/sub categories of bricks and so on.

This would be helpful for storage, reporting, searching etc. As I assume we are
sticking with a SQL backend for the new product, this isn't a major change to
the schema nor functionality - but it would certainly help us out

Exists...

Click the large SEARCH button next to the blank searchbox when you are in a store...
It will give you some search options within each store

Unless you want 'much more' advanced, but then you need to give a few examples

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware that you could do that, so we will see if
that is sufficient.

Currently when you choose the price guide from the catalogue tab, you are asked
about parting out sets. Once you have completed the details of what you wish
to check you get a screen which shows the average price for parting out, either
new or used.

It would be much more benficial to all if we could see the minimum, average and
highest price as we do elsewhere when dealing with inventory. As the Bricklink
database is just that , a database and the system is looking at average values,
it should be a minor amendment to provide the minimum and highest as well.

Comments? Does anyone else agree?

Display Country Flags on Price Guide Detail Current Items for Sale

Hi Marc - tried that - didn't work cause it only affects the price guide detail
pages which you do not see when adding an individual item to your inventory.
They need to allow that option in both places not just one.

Not at all. But as you build your inventory in whichever way you do - it would
be useful to know what others in the same region are charging as opposed to pricing
globally.

Did you try the last setting on this page:
http://www.bricklink.com/priceGuideSettings.asp?viewFrom=P

Gerrit

I did but it doesn't seem to work for the price detail on the add inventory page.
We still do not see flags or any reference to local pricing. I do believe Bricklink
could make this much better for all of us. They simply need to add a few more
options or preferences and then save them for each store so they apply each time
you log in.

  Good morning

We have been using Bricklink for many years now and in December of last year
opened a store. As a result of that and all the work that has gone into that
we would like to make a few suggestions to help new and existing stores.

1. Make it easier to customize your stores pages. We are not programmers, but
we would like good marketing material on our store pages. Each time we create
something in Microsoft word and publish it to html, we get consistent errors
about use of Iframes, etc. We also get a constant barrage of item too large,
hence our rather non-marketing store pages.

Use HTML, problem solved

  2. When adding stock/inventory, we would also like the save settings to be in
place, whether we leave the site or not. We would like to see the storeroom option
re-worked so that when an existing part which has gone to zero is increased,
the item goes back into the store, without having to run an inventory update
to achieve this.

Why have parts in your store room, simply upload them into your store?

  3. It would also be nice if possible to have regionlised pricing. We appreciate
that Bricklink is 'worldwide' and many of ths stores accomodate that, however
having the ability to look at your regions pricing would be very useful.

I agree, LEGO in the US is far cheaper than here, yet this is not clear in the
price guide.
This makes for lower European prices and thus higher profits for US sellers

  4. The Bricklink fees charges.

I believe these are 3%, so it does not matter what currency you use

Due to the fact that this is in USD, converting
on an almost constant basis, it is very difficult to pin down an exact cost for
Bricklink per order. It would help if this were in the local currency that the
store sets as its own and/or if there were a statement produced at the end of
each billing period which showed order by order what the fee was in USD and the
local currency that the store uses. This would also be ideal for the stores accounting
records.

There probably are many other issues to comment on however I will leave this
as it is for the time being to see what the reaction is.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately using HTML is not an option for me
or my colleagues. We have used Word and published to html, but as usual Microsoft
have their own way of doing things which is making a mockery o9f basic html.

As for uploading directly to the store, that is what we have been trying to do
and each time we do it, we end up with some parts in the storeroom and others
straight into the store - very frustrating.

Glad to see there is a general view that regionlised pricing could be useful.
I hope Bricklink take that on board.

As for their fees yes you are right it is 3% of the order total shown in USD,
not in GBP. They then alter that based on the constantly changing currency conversion
so you end up with not knowing the exact Bricklink cost. Surely a simple statement
showing the order number, order value USD amount and the local currency amount
would be better.

Hi Bret - you are right - you do not know the exact amount until you pay and
then you have paypal costs to factor in. Nothin in life is simple.

I think the real problem is using MS Word to create HTML pages. Yes, MS does
like to use the most long-winded formatting that causes errors. All the content
on my pages (weith the exception of some color-code-generators) I typed long-hand.
I taught myself when HTML I know and the rest I just searched for, like "HTML
Tables" and used information from several sites. There's a primary tool I recommend:
http://htmledit.squarefree.com so you can see when a change will cause you problems.
Try looking for an alternate for MS Word to create your content. There are
plenty out there and some are free.

  2. When adding stock/inventory, we would also like the save settings to be in

I don't use stockrooms, so I won't comment either way

  3. It would also be nice if possible to have regionlised pricing. We appreciate

"Region" could be an issue, but "within same country" I can see being useful
for many sellers.

  4. The Bricklink fees charges. Due to the fact that this is in USD, converting

The fee (or order value) doesn't change from hour to hour as the exchange rates
move. They are locked in at the time the order was placed. You can use 3% of
the GBP total for each order.
-Ash

There probably are many other issues to comment on however I will leave this
as it is for the time being to see what the reaction is.

Hi Ash - thanks for commenting. We are going to leave the html to guys who know
what they are doing - it simply isn't for us - almost like learning a foreign
language. Word is awful for it and so are the rest of the Microsoft products.

We have a workaround for the storeroom issue but it is longwinded and means you
constantly have to check that your store invenoty figures match your 'my inventory
figures'.

On the fees - we are different here in the UK - please see below:

Fees for sellers with store prices in currency other than US Dollar - The system
calculates the fee in US dollar using the Exchange Rate of the latest order batch.
When an existing order is added to, the fee is recalculated using the most recent
exchange rate at the time the order batch is submitted. Tier discounts are based
on totals in US Dollar.

This does make it more difficult to reconcile the charges to individual orders.

Brett - Hi - thanks for commenting. I know about the right hand side of that
page, but it still doesn't give me what I want. Those prices are shown in USD
and need to be converted to GBP. Not sure we are going to get anywhere with this.
I think I will have to simply approximate.

HTML is rather easy. The are many good tutorials on the web.

This is a particularly good one:

Here is a quick reference from that same site:

I have always found that some people have an aptitude for programming and others
don't. I am one of the dont's. It is all gibberish to me. I thought it would
be very simple, just put together what you wanted in Word, then publish it to
html and upload that file. I guess that was when I had been up all night and
had too much mellow wine.

If you sell out of an item, you can have it set up to have the lot move to a
stock-room. This is useful to preserve data like when the lot was added, My Cost,
etc, instead of having the lot deleted.

The problem is that when you add additional parts to your inventory and they
get consolidated into that stock-room lot, it stays in the stockroom, even though
it no longer has a zero count.

We have used the update inventory option to move all the storeroom items to store
items when we find a discrepancy between what our inventory says and what the
store says. The storeroom idea is a good one, but it does need some changes.

3. It would also be nice if possible to have regionlised pricing. We appreciate
that Bricklink is 'worldwide' and many of ths stores accomodate that, however
having the ability to look at your regions pricing would be very useful.
4. The Bricklink fees charges. Due to the fact that this is in USD, converting
on an almost constant basis, it is very difficult to pin down an exact cost for
Bricklink per order.

You are of course correct. We have learned an enormous amount both from the Internet
and using Bricklink as a seller, but I still think they could make it easier,
especially in this day and age.
