I have a suggestion which would help the search catalogue feature enormously
(from my point of view). If I am searching to identify a part in a easily recognized
colour - say white or black then I am looking at nearly all the categories that
exist to go through and unless I am quite lucky to either remember or guess I
would have to go through all of them. What if instead of just a multi column
list there were check boxes next to each category and you could choose all or
a number of to include in your search. This would cut down the time spe4nt in
trying to find the product.

If you know the category fine then go straight to it and browse the items until
you find it, but if you do not, then finding it becomes quite long winded and
tedious as well as time consuming. Hence mine and a lot of other peoples use
of the forum for identification.

Anybody else agree?

We have commented on this on several occasions but events over the last couple
of weeks means it has to be re-stated.

We need a much stronger inventory system on Bricklink. A transaction log of inventory
movements is essential. Too many things keep suggesting there are problems with
the current system.

We have an outside system which helps us to keep track of what we add and what
we remove (a reflection of sales, and purchases, parting-out etc.); hence we
can track individual items by item, colour and condition - where they came from;
who bought them etc. This has yet to balance with our Bricklink inventory and
we cannot understand why. Short of doing a complete inventory (and that on 200k+
parts is very time consuming and problematic), we cannot understand the differences
that continue to happen.

We have turned on all the features that currently exist in the system to help
with the tracking of stock movements and as we process all orders, we double
check the items left and where appropriate make adjustments. But even those adjustments
do not seem to bring things to being correct. Lots and lots of examples of the
problems this has been causing and we are sure others are experiencing this as
well.

A stock movements log/report could help to resolve these issues not only for
us but for all stores. As we have a SQL database behind the UI, this is not a
difficult thing to create or make available. If the development team behind the
work is listening, please ensure this is a very high priority on the list of
required features. As inventories grow and get more complex (wider variety of
parts) it is more than essential to have good controls and systems in place.

When we have posted this as a suggestion in the past, the majority of people
who have commented have agreed that this is an important feature that needs to
be added. We hope that view continues.

Couple of things which would certainly help us with regards to the set inventories.

1. A by category summary at the end (Make this an option to display/print)
2. A 2nd level sort Sort by part and then colour

There are a wide, no very wide range, of improvements that we would like see
made to inventory and inventory control, but perhaps this isn't the place
to put those forward.

It would be a very helpful improvement if they added the ability to see what
the new lots are that you get when you look at parting out a set. Currently you
get a summary statement of x items in x lots.

This should not be a complicated modification as SQL is gathering the data to
summarize.

It would be very useful/helpful if within the inventory lists, we could see a
summary of Bricklink categories and colours. This is now available at Brickset,
but they are not using the Bricklink cats or colours.

It would help people when they are looking at parting out sets or for that matter
buying them.

Comments?

You can do this yourself by downloading an inventory and working on it in Excel
or something similar but it would be better and simpler to do it at source. It
is quite a simple process in SQL.

It would be helpful if when we want to go to a specific item in our inventory
we could use the element id for that part to go right there rather than paging
through many pages looking for the item.

Example - Use 4211415 to go to Tile 1 x 2 in Light Bluish Gray.

It would also be useful if, when using the inventory page, you could choose specific
items to update:

Example - Want to go in and update all 3001 (Brick, 2 x 4) with a tiered pricing
structure. Can't seem to find a way to do that at present, other than manually.

Just a couple of post Christmas thoughts.

Have noticed other posts for this subject recently and would like to re-iterate
one we tabled a long time ago.

There needs to be an audit trail of inventory movements for each store, showing
ins/outs, date, quantity, colour, condition and price set. This will help inventory
control enormously. Currently if you have a 'lot' (Unique part no, colour
and condition) it stays as that lot forever. If you sell out of that particular
item and then add another one you get a new lot. The only information that appears
to be available from that is lot specific e.g. when you added it and when you
last sold it. It doesn't tell you the last time you added additional ones
or give any kind of transactional movement for that item.

In simple terms this is 'stock movements' and despite the3 complications
both progamming and otherwise, it should be an essential part of the new system.

If we are going to put all our eggs for inventory control into one basket (e.g.
Bricklink), then there should be a much stronger inventory management system
behind it.

These features go beyond Brickstore and any other system we have looked at since
opening our store, but they would certainly help to control inventories, or at
least be able to trace something.

As we understand the existing database uses SQL server to hold its data and a
very old (progamming language) for its front end, we hope the new development
retains the SQL back end and uses a much more modern web based language for the
front end.

I am not sure these have all been covered completely before or it may have
been in several different items/issues, but we would like to see the following
improvements in the next release of Bricklink.

1. Improve the colour samples to include larger swatches, Lego Colour Name; Pantone;
CMYK, RGB. It might even help to include the Peeron Colour name. Colours are
very important to lots of people and they also have a direct bearing on pricing
(unlike Lego)
2. Improve the images in the catalogue both small and large. Remove sketches
and where there are subtle differences between parts e.g. ....a and ....b make
it clear what those are (in photos of course).
3. Major issue with tire and wheel identifications. The relationship idea helps
somewhat as does the visual wheel thing, but neither are complete and they are
not kept up to date. Where Lego has a part number fine, but many do not or it
is impossible to read. Considering Lego are the world's largest tire manufacturer
we should do better here.
4. Our age old - please allow multiple users to have access to the stores. The
larger the store, the more likely there is more than one person dealing with
it and all of the individuals need to be able to get in with different permissions,
as required. We are based in two locations and share access to the store at both.
That is not ideal, as you can imagine, and of course with only one login everyone
can do everything.

There are many. many more itmes to be dealt with but the suggestion forum does
not seem to be the best place to get things moving.

Just a thought for consideration:

Inventories currently have a summary at the end of them showing no of parts and
no of figures as well as alternate parts.

It would be a nice parameter driven option to be able to see a summary of colours
and categories (user could choose either or both). Something like:

Include Colour summary
Include Category Summary

This way at a glance you could see how many different colours were in the set
and which categories it covers. Bearing in mind this is a SQL database this is
a simple extension to what we already have.

I am sure both admin and development have had a lot of messages concerning the
next release, and I am also sure they have their own agenda of priorities e.g.
making the site secure etc., however; I would like to put another point to them
for consideration.

As the back end of the site is a SQL database and we are SQL people, we would
like to see much more use of the capabilities which exist within the database
itself. For example when we go to catalogue - color guide and look at the page
we would like a sort option to appear so that the information can be sorted by
color name; no parts, no sets, wanted, etc. In an ideal world the headings for
each of the columns woluld simply need to be clicked on to arrange the sort.
This applies to not only the color guide but also in other areas on the site
e.g. inventory, orders etc.

We would also like to see a way to use the data mining capabilities e.g. what
part comes in the most colours? Or which category is most associated with a particular
color or group of colours e.g. Star Wars - grays etc;

There are very long winded ways of doing some of the above at present, but it
would be very helpful if thoughts could go into how we make this an easier process
in the next release.

When I mentioned this in an earlier post, someone suggested a management reporting
capability (either online or offline)- maybe something like Brickstore (but
something that would be supported and or looked after)

I will also go back to a very old suggestion which is becoming increasingly more
important to us. We need the ability to have multiple logins to our store with
permission capabilities set up against each login - from administrator to clerical.
We now have two separate locations for our Lego store - one for picking and one
for packing and processing. Both need access to the store and orders and without
using my login we cannot achieve that. As we continue to grow the store (2,000
items at launch and over 91,000 now)this capability has become more important
and, of course, thee is no real way around it other than using the owner's
login and password.

The entire philosophy behind Bricklink was to provide an opportunity for the
Lego people around the world to acquire what they need in the simplest fashion
possible. The next release needs to go much further in making this process simpler
and easier, not only for the buyher but also the sellers and the 'Bricklink
Experts' that are out there.

Anybody else got any thoughts on this and other features/requirements for the
next release?

We want to see all te price data for any items at a glance so for example take
a 3001 2 x 4 brick. Instead of haing to go through each one of the colour price
guides can we go anywehre to see what each colour is making. This would be helpful
to buyers as well as sellers.

As and when of course.

It would be useful to be able to filter the feedback pages by type e.g. see all
feedback for this member as a buyer or seller. Say something like see feedback
as (drop down list) Seller; Buyer; . The default could remain the same e.g. both.

It would also be useful when you do a catalogue enquiry and bring up a part e.g.
3001 to see the quantities on sale (by colour) broken into two columns new and
used rather than just a single column.
New Used
Black 25 300

We have a need to track parts/items that we have on order at any time. This is
due to the fact that many suppliers do not have the full quanity we require so
we have to spread the order over several. Sometimes there are 10+ orders on the
go and it would be very helpful if we were able to say how many 3001's in Black
do we have on order and from whom.

Anybody else agree.

Our store now has 4 individuals in it and is over two locations, which is beginning
to cause a problem. Everyone logs in as the main login so they have access to
inventory, orders etc. They also have complete control over oujr site once logged
in. Knowing SQL databases, it should be relatively simple and straightforward
to add multiple users for a site and provide them with various permissions as
appropriate.

Can this be included in the next release of Bricklink please?

I do know nothing is ever as simple as it appears when it comes to programming
and any Microsoft product but .....

I think a very useful new feature would be an inventory movement report, where
stores and possibly even buyers could look at inventory movements would be much
appreciated. This could help solve inventory problems, ensuring greater accuracy.

I would like the file to be downloadable to Excel or something similar. It should
contain the date and time of the entry, as well as the part number, quantity,
colour, remarks and any pricing information. It could also allow options to choose
any of the other elements used in setting up new items.

It would be helpful if thee was a way to sort the display on the inventory summary

ordered by high to low or low to high. Bricklink 2 maybe?

Currently when you search the catalogue for a particular piece, you can choose
the category e.g. Brick Decorated and then when that result returns, you can
choose to refine that by saying 3009*, for example. This would then show you
all the 3009 decorated bricks.

A suggested improvement to this would be to add another level of search within
the results such as 3009* with the string 'Police' or 'Taxi'. This would narrow
the search down considerably and save lots of time for those of us who work our
way through many kilos of unsorted pieces.

As the catalogue is based on a SQL database, to add this level is simply adding
a further 'where' condition.

Anybody else agree?

Tried to run some coorelation analysis between the number of e-mails sent out
on a 'notify run' and the number of new orders from that. Unfortunately could
not do more than this last one as there doesn't appear to be anywhere you can
find out details of each of your 'notify's' It would be very helpful in the new
version if this could be accomodated.

It would also help sellers to understand the relationship between a notify and
an order.

It would be very helpful if the Bricklink inventory allowed for a level above
category. For example there are several types of Bricks, e.g. arch, modified,
etc. These still remain as Bricks, however, the same as slopes, technic etc.
Having a level above current category e.g. Inventory family Bricks contains all
the categries/sub categories of bricks and so on.

This would be helpful for storage, reporting, searching etc. As I assume we are
sticking with a SQL backend for the new product, this isn't a major change to
the schema nor functionality - but it would certainly help us out

Anybody agree?

It wouold be very helpful if the 'advanced search' capabilities were available
once you are logged into a store. For the smaller stores where there isn't such
a large inventory to go through it isn't too bad, but for the large stores and
a set of more complex requirements, the advanced search would be very helpful.

Currently when you choose the price guide from the catalogue tab, you are asked
about parting out sets. Once you have completed the details of what you wish
to check you get a screen which shows the average price for parting out, either
new or used.

It would be much more benficial to all if we could see the minimum, average and
highest price as we do elsewhere when dealing with inventory. As the Bricklink
database is just that , a database and the system is looking at average values,
it should be a minor amendment to provide the minimum and highest as well.

1. On the list of stores, provide the ability to sort by store size.
2. On the catalog - price guide - when you part out a set it tells you which
pieces you have in your inventory towards the set. It would be helpful if it
told you which pieces you needed to complete that set in a simple little report,
or on a screen that you could print.

Good morning

We have been using Bricklink for many years now and in December of last year
opened a store. As a result of that and all the work that has gone into that
we would like to make a few suggestions to help new and existing stores.

1. Make it easier to customize your stores pages. We are not programmers, but
we would like good marketing material on our store pages. Each time we create
something in Microsoft word and publish it to html, we get consistent errors
about use of Iframes, etc. We also get a constant barrage of item too large,
hence our rather non-marketing store pages.
2. When adding stock/inventory, we would also like the save settings to be in
place, whether we leave the site or not. We would like to see the storeroom option
re-worked so that when an existing part which has gone to zero is increased,
the item goes back into the store, without having to run an inventory update
to achieve this.
3. It would also be nice if possible to have regionlised pricing. We appreciate
that Bricklink is 'worldwide' and many of ths stores accomodate that, however
having the ability to look at your regions pricing would be very useful.
4. The Bricklink fees charges. Due to the fact that this is in USD, converting
on an almost constant basis, it is very difficult to pin down an exact cost for
Bricklink per order. It would help if this were in the local currency that the
store sets as its own and/or if there were a statement produced at the end of
each billing period which showed order by order what the fee was in USD and the
local currency that the store uses. This would also be ideal for the stores accounting
records.

There probably are many other issues to comment on however I will leave this
as it is for the time being to see what the reaction is.
