I have a suggestion which would help the search catalogue feature enormously
(from my point of view). If I am searching to identify a part in a easily recognized
colour - say white or black then I am looking at nearly all the categories that
exist to go through and unless I am quite lucky to either remember or guess I
would have to go through all of them. What if instead of just a multi column
list there were check boxes next to each category and you could choose all or
a number of to include in your search. This would cut down the time spe4nt in
trying to find the product.

If you know the category fine then go straight to it and browse the items until
you find it, but if you do not, then finding it becomes quite long winded and
tedious as well as time consuming. Hence mine and a lot of other peoples use
of the forum for identification.

Anybody else agree?

We have commented on this on several occasions but events over the last couple
of weeks means it has to be re-stated.

We need a much stronger inventory system on Bricklink. A transaction log of inventory
movements is essential. Too many things keep suggesting there are problems with
the current system.

We have an outside system which helps us to keep track of what we add and what
we remove (a reflection of sales, and purchases, parting-out etc.); hence we
can track individual items by item, colour and condition - where they came from;
who bought them etc. This has yet to balance with our Bricklink inventory and
we cannot understand why. Short of doing a complete inventory (and that on 200k+
parts is very time consuming and problematic), we cannot understand the differences
that continue to happen.

We have turned on all the features that currently exist in the system to help
with the tracking of stock movements and as we process all orders, we double
check the items left and where appropriate make adjustments. But even those adjustments
do not seem to bring things to being correct. Lots and lots of examples of the
problems this has been causing and we are sure others are experiencing this as
well.

A stock movements log/report could help to resolve these issues not only for
us but for all stores. As we have a SQL database behind the UI, this is not a
difficult thing to create or make available. If the development team behind the
work is listening, please ensure this is a very high priority on the list of
required features. As inventories grow and get more complex (wider variety of
parts) it is more than essential to have good controls and systems in place.

When we have posted this as a suggestion in the past, the majority of people
who have commented have agreed that this is an important feature that needs to
be added. We hope that view continues.

Couple of things which would certainly help us with regards to the set inventories.

1. A by category summary at the end (Make this an option to display/print)
2. A 2nd level sort Sort by part and then colour

There are a wide, no very wide range, of improvements that we would like see
made to inventory and inventory control, but perhaps this isn't the place
to put those forward.

It would be a very helpful improvement if they added the ability to see what
the new lots are that you get when you look at parting out a set. Currently you
get a summary statement of x items in x lots.

This should not be a complicated modification as SQL is gathering the data to
summarize.

It would be very useful/helpful if within the inventory lists, we could see a
summary of Bricklink categories and colours. This is now available at Brickset,
but they are not using the Bricklink cats or colours.

It would help people when they are looking at parting out sets or for that matter
buying them.

Comments?

You can do this yourself by downloading an inventory and working on it in Excel
or something similar but it would be better and simpler to do it at source. It
is quite a simple process in SQL.

It would be helpful if when we want to go to a specific item in our inventory
we could use the element id for that part to go right there rather than paging
through many pages looking for the item.

Example - Use 4211415 to go to Tile 1 x 2 in Light Bluish Gray.

It would also be useful if, when using the inventory page, you could choose specific
items to update:

Example - Want to go in and update all 3001 (Brick, 2 x 4) with a tiered pricing
structure. Can't seem to find a way to do that at present, other than manually.

Just a couple of post Christmas thoughts.

Have noticed other posts for this subject recently and would like to re-iterate
one we tabled a long time ago.

There needs to be an audit trail of inventory movements for each store, showing
ins/outs, date, quantity, colour, condition and price set. This will help inventory
control enormously. Currently if you have a 'lot' (Unique part no, colour
and condition) it stays as that lot forever. If you sell out of that particular
item and then add another one you get a new lot. The only information that appears
to be available from that is lot specific e.g. when you added it and when you
last sold it. It doesn't tell you the last time you added additional ones
or give any kind of transactional movement for that item.

In simple terms this is 'stock movements' and despite the3 complications
both progamming and otherwise, it should be an essential part of the new system.

If we are going to put all our eggs for inventory control into one basket (e.g.
Bricklink), then there should be a much stronger inventory management system
behind it.

These features go beyond Brickstore and any other system we have looked at since
opening our store, but they would certainly help to control inventories, or at
least be able to trace something.

As we understand the existing database uses SQL server to hold its data and a
very old (progamming language) for its front end, we hope the new development
retains the SQL back end and uses a much more modern web based language for the
front end.

I am not sure these have all been covered completely before or it may have
been in several different items/issues, but we would like to see the following
improvements in the next release of Bricklink.

1. Improve the colour samples to include larger swatches, Lego Colour Name; Pantone;
CMYK, RGB. It might even help to include the Peeron Colour name. Colours are
very important to lots of people and they also have a direct bearing on pricing
(unlike Lego)
2. Improve the images in the catalogue both small and large. Remove sketches
and where there are subtle differences between parts e.g. ....a and ....b make
it clear what those are (in photos of course).
3. Major issue with tire and wheel identifications. The relationship idea helps
somewhat as does the visual wheel thing, but neither are complete and they are
not kept up to date. Where Lego has a part number fine, but many do not or it
is impossible to read. Considering Lego are the world's largest tire manufacturer
we should do better here.
4. Our age old - please allow multiple users to have access to the stores. The
larger the store, the more likely there is more than one person dealing with
it and all of the individuals need to be able to get in with different permissions,
as required. We are based in two locations and share access to the store at both.
That is not ideal, as you can imagine, and of course with only one login everyone
can do everything.

There are many. many more itmes to be dealt with but the suggestion forum does
not seem to be the best place to get things moving.
