The reporter let me know that the video was released on Friday, but I forgot
to post it until one of my buyers messaged me that he had seen it.

Wow another interview!
Have you experienced a rise in sales lately?

I guess that FT finally figured out that LEGO is more than just bits of plastic

How can an unreleased set from 2021 be "legendary"?

2 to 5 years: legendary.
More than 5 years: mythical.

Ah, to be young again….

But really as a city collector I would love to have that set.

Now this is confusing, as a City Collector you would love to own this set, but
you say you have one in hand and want to sell it?

Did I say I own it?
I said I don’t own it and that I just had a set that I would like to add to the
list.

I've only skim watched it so far but will watch it properly later. It looks
professionally done.

Was thinking more about the doomed sets in the unreleased catagory, and went
for a second look.

I clicked on a item and noticed that the banner on the top said, "This Item
was Likely Not Released".

Key word for me "LIKELY".
How are we supposed to know for sure if a item was not released if no one can
put one up for sale?!?

So my request is that you allow sellers to sell the item, but only in the conditions
of sealed or new.

Some of these were released or more likely leaked. In fact I think MOST of
the sets in this category saw some level of distribution official or otherwise.
For example I have MSIB the Christmas set with Santa and Mrs. Clause that was
supposed to be a free give away a few years back. It as far as I know has no
official listing here or on lego.com. I brought this up in a forum post some
years ago and people got quite angry that I acquired an "illegal" set
and was told then that they would never allow a listing on BL since it was leaked
not released. Over the years I have found 3 such items that are in my collection:

1526 Space set in box opened
3872 Exo-Force in polybag MSIB
40489 Christmas Set MSIB (2X)

I also have set 6500 but it has no box...so I don't include it. The instructions
appear official but as of now I cannot confirm the authenticity entirely.

Additionally, many users have mentioned in the past seeing the unreleased cage
match for the original spider-man (1375) run as part of a TRU display back in
the day...although nobody I know has ever confirmed the set itself. The display
itself has come up for auction from time to time.

Lego and by extension BL seem to not want them listed in my experience. Probably
due to the ethical implications of them being leaked, smuggled or flat out stolen
from sources if a release was never made officially. Which I can understand.

Well, that goes for many of us here, but we don't own the site or make the

My question is, why is TLG so picky?

Because they have a brand image to uphold. If you owned a large, international,
billion-dollar company, you might understand.

Hummm

I'm so close!!!

Methinks you forgot the billion-dollar part.

I recently sold a set, and the buyer came back saying there are SEVERAL missing
pieces. Those are all LARGE pieces (not real cheap). He also said he checked
inventory against BrickSet (Not BrickLink). I'd like to give the buyer the
benefit of the doubt, but when there are 20 large missing parts (Including a
linear actuator), I'm rather not sure.

If it's going to keep you up at night, tell the buyer you want the set back
for a full refund. Send him a shipping label, tell him to pack it back into
the box he got it in, and drop it off at a post office. I think it'll be
cheaper to do that then buy all the parts on bricklink and send them onto to
him.

Have you seen the BrickLink catalog? There is so much stuff here that is not
cataloged anywhere else. Over the 24 years that this site has existed, I would
say that almost anything that any user has had has found its way into the catalog
somehow. And we still get rare and old stuff submitted all of the time. If any
of these sets actually existed, they would have most likely turned up by now.
And like Jonas said, if they do turn up, all they have to do is send a message
or make a request like everyone else who wants to contribute.

Ok, but could you put a note on the items stating, that if you have one to contact
the admins?

Since there isn't anything here that we can do from the catalog side regarding
the unreleased items (we can neither change the wording nor the listing policy),
I have moved this thread to "General".

I do have a set to be added to the unreleased catagoy though.
(No I don't have it, but I know of it)
Where do I add it?

What set would that be?

The legendary 60278 Crook's Hideout Raid.

Better known as "the dynamite factory"

I have had prototype parts that I actually have in-hand rejected from the BrickLink
catalog because they were never officially released. My impression is that those
sets existing in the catalog at all is really just a remnant from a more permissive
BrickLink era.

For all I care, if it says LEGO on it let it in.

They are protecting their brand. The Osprey 42113 isn't in the catalog despite
it making it into the hands of some people legitimately.

WHHAAATTTT!!!!!
That's not right!

How is it not right? The legitimate sales were made prior to the official release
date but Lego could not legally recover those. Some were also sent to people
to review. Unreleased sets are not part of the official Lego history. Not sure
if that was before Lego bought BL or not, I seem to remember people complaining
they couldn't sell sets they obtained here and that to keep the goodwill
between Lego and BL it was agreed to not allow them. Same reason people who receive
items to review before the release date agree to not release pictures or reviews
befor a certain date. Thou I can't always trust my memory.

That is correct. The ones there are grandfathered in, but things are very different
now that the LEGO Group owns BrickLink.

I clicked on a item and noticed that the banner on the top said, "This Item

Key word for me "LIKELY".
How are we supposed to know for sure if a item was not released if no one can
put one up for sale?!?

So my request is that you allow sellers to sell the item, but only in the conditions
of sealed or new.

If anyone has one of the unreleased items and would like to list it for sale,
they can inform us. Then we'll look into it and remove the "not released"
flag if necessary.

But most sellers won't think of that or have the time to bother.

I don't believe a note is necessary since the items are already flagged.

How can an unreleased set from 2021 be "legendary"?

I recently sold a set, and the buyer came back saying there are SEVERAL missing
pieces. Those are all LARGE pieces (not real cheap). He also said he checked
inventory against BrickSet (Not BrickLink). I'd like to give the buyer the
benefit of the doubt, but when there are 20 large missing parts (Including a
linear actuator), I'm rather not sure.

Take photos of what you send out. That way you know if you made a mistake and
your buyer might 'find' the missing items after being prompted.

For all I care, if it says LEGO on it let it in.
