There are a few people that have blown the bot spam off as nothing and tell us

Sorry to say but that can be forged. Scammers generally don’t bother to (especially
as they don’t want you to answer the e-mail and make the official site aware
of their shenanigans).
The DKIM-Signature is more secure but it needs to be verified: you can’t do it
‘manually.’ That depends on your mail provider.
Mails that don’t pass the verification don’t make it to your mailbox.

Well, that doesn’t tell much more as BL is using mailchimp and trackers and whatnot.
If you hover over the link/button, you see something like

Rather cryptic.
Now, if you look at the text-only version of the e-mail, the link is (https://)forms.office.com/e/(ID)
So you at least know you’re being redirected to an MSOffice form… but that doesn’t
tell you anything more on who created it and that doesn’t prevent you from entering
the name of your luggage or the code for your first pet.

Why would the spend potentially thousands of dollars (or more) so that the 20-50
of us who use the forums don’t see a couple spam posts a day? The real question
is why would they. If you hide canceled posts or just ignore them it in no way
affects the usage

I really don't care about forum spam. But I do care that the OP is concerned
about security and the reply to that was making the point that if BL can't
keep out spam from the form, how can they keep our accounts secure? These are
valid concerns, and shouldn't just be dismissed by BL apologists who assume
the cost is too high for security. It's a really simple point that should
be supported by everyone, not belittled.

As I said, it's not necessarily worth it to prevent a relatively small amount
of relatively harmless spam, especially when the developers have other priorities.
That being said, if the spam does get out of control, then it might justify some
sort of technical solution, but everyone's tolerance for spam is different.
I don't mind a bit of salt.
How am I to know? I'm not a programmer and I don't work for BrickLink.
I don't know what happens in Irvine. All I can do is guess.
Communication is nice, but I'd rather the developers focus on getting stuff
done than on sharing their work with a public that doesn't really understand
software development. At least they bother to update it with past updates.

We should in fact demand more accountability and communication from BL and we
shouldn't stop until they do. That's how things start to get better.
If we just pretend everything will work out in the end, it never will, and we'll
just have to put up with more and more problems. This forum is the best public
way to hold BL's feet to the fire. So instead of going "chicken",
demand better from the company that runs the community we are all responsible
for.

Ah, I see. If the seller didn't add an extended description letting buyers
know that the sticker was used and then pulled off of a part and was unable
to be restuck, then that seller had a bad listing.
Sellers can list anything as used, but if it's unable to function how it's
intended to, then they have to describe that in the item's extended description.
Of course, used stickers are far more unlikely to be reused than parts,
gear, etc, so it's even more important for sellers to describe those accurately.

in the catalog, add it. This is a lazy loophole that should be fixed.

reusable as far as I know), why can they be listed after removal from a part?

Look at my listing for the stickers I mentioned. Nothing misleading. Also if
you had an understanding of the complex assembly they were applied to would help.
Not just across 2 bricks. Take in account there were 6 sheets for sale priced
$12-$25 I figured someone would be happy to get these for the $6. If there were
individual sticker listings I would have used that but the way I did it is the
best option available.

Arg... my ipad ran out of juice and I lost my reply. Here it is in a nutshell:
You are not trying to be misleading, you are doing everything you can within
the confines of listing stickers to present the truth.
However, when one is buying a used sticker sheet, I don't think the assumption
is that the buyer will receive stickers that have already been stuck on parts
and then peeled off with no sticker sheet included. That's why peeled off
stickers are not mentioned at all on the condition listing help page. LEGO stickers
are not marketed as reusable and in most cases, they are not. Sticker backing
glue cannot be measured to guarantee stickiness.
Also, when taking a picture of the stickers, you can't post two photos showing
the front and back, so it's not actually full disclosure.
The limitation here is that there is no category for stickers outside the sticker
sheet (nor am I advocating for that). So that means being misleading is inherent
to listing stickers without a sticker sheet.

The requirement states:
"Sticker sheets missing stickers must be listed as used."
To me that's vague enough to include re-applied peeled off stickers.

That’s talking about sticker sheets - so one would think the original sticker
sheet is included and some stickers are missing. It’s not talking about previously
applied stickers at all. It’s not vague, per say, just not addressing this issue.

As long as the seller says that they've been removed from parts and lists
the stickers as used, then I think it's within the rules. However, I can't
imagine anyone wanting to by such stickers, unless they're really old or

the folks who are trying to make their point - which is a valid point. Not a
good look.
Look, you're (BrickLink) obviously making this change and not going back.
At the same time you are obviously burning bridges with many people. Take time
to consider the humans behind this site and that their passion is your bottom
line. What's more important, catalog changes or relationships with people
and communities that support your bottom line? Is this all really worth the relationships
that are being strained and even broken? This public humiliation (even though
the writer may have given you permission or we will never know who they are)
is not putting out any fires, it's just fanning the flames.
I understand that the most vocal forum members on here are supporters of this
variant merger. And a post like this may make everyone feel better about themselves
and this decision. But don't forget about those people you don't hear
from very often or ever that don't support this merger. You may think this
is a great idea and so may many of your colleagues, but there are also many users
of this site that don't agree.

Those should all be merged variants as well. Maybe we could consolidate the part

In this post I will address the second one:
I'll begin with a quote from Chris which he used as part of the introduction:
“I decided to take down every single one of my wall displays and actually
consolidate them to be a lot better, neater, tighter, and more concise to allow
myself to be able to put up even more stuff.”
What Chris is doing with his collection is, in a way, similar to what we are
doing with the BrickLink catalog.
I do actually agree with the overall sentiment from this video. However, there
are several points I would like to challenge:
Quote from the video: “from the beginning, the catalog has just been
continuing to grow and grow."
Not completely true. There have been major corrections like this in the past,
and we make minor corrections regularly. One of the things that is often missed
by the average BrickLink member is that we reject the overwhelming majority of
variants. That means that the BrickLink catalog only grows to the extent that
we let it grow, and there are considerable restraints even now on the number
of variants we will accept.
2 x 2 Hinge Brick – this is a merge between 30389c and 30389b. It does
not involve the hinge brick without axle hole 30389a.

A correction concerning the 2 x 2 hinge brick:
“As a correction to the video, it has become clear that one of the examples

However, there are indeed issues with the other examples:
Click Hinges –The number of teeth does not affect the number of locking
positions. A lot of people think that when they see the distinction in the catalog,
but it’s actually not true. This misunderstanding is one reason we want to remove
this distinction. These are simply cosmetic differences on a part that is not
typically used for cosmetic purposes.

1 x 4 Clear Bricks – The 1 x 4 frosted bricks will be merged with the
1 x 4 standard brick (3010), not the specialty brick without tubes underneath
(3066).

Smooth Slopes – there was a comment in the video that the result of a
merge will be a “random hodgepodge” where buyers may receive slopes that don’t
match each other. But this is actually the condition of the marketplace now,
pre-merge.
The oldest slopes had a very heavy texture (see photo below), whereas newer ones
have much less texture. And in addition to the slopes that seemingly have no
texture, real-life listings contain everything in between.
The presence of “Smooth” entries in the catalog gives the illusion that there
are only two grades of texture, but the reality is that listings based on subjective
criteria will produce subjective results. In fact, I’m pretty sure that much
of the Smooth Slope data we see in the set inventories is also subjective depending
on the experience of the contributor.
Community Poll – We don’t base our decisions on polls because if we did,
the collector community on BrickLink would have their agenda completely wiped
out by the majority who don’t care about picky details. Instead, we appoint very
detail oriented admins who represent the collector community and they are the
ones making the calls on variants on a day-to-day basis.
Date - Feb 1 or Feb 15 – Feb 1 was the original date we were going to
begin changes, but due to delays with the list of changes and requests to extend
the time a little, we pushed the date to Feb 15. However, the name and number
changes to tiles and the 1 x 1 round brick will start on Feb 1. Since these are
not merges, they will not affect listings in the same way.

OH, I FINALLY GET IT! This is a new sellers tool! Finally!
BL is consolidating parts to make it easier to sell! Not quite the seller tool
anyone was asking for, but at least it's something!
So... if the trend continues... it's going to be super easy to sell on BL!
Eventually, BL will consolidate down to just ONE PART! That means sellers just
have to list ONE PART!!! That will be super easy to list!!!
So when a buyers orders from my store, they will have just have ONE PART to choose
from and we, sellers, just send them whatever we have one hand! SUPER EASY!!!!

others all less than that so it shouldn't be reporting out of stock yet.

The only way the fortress is that far along has to be because folks are going
over their 2 per household limit. There's no way it's filling up that
fast otherwise.

Many here in forum might be concerned about 4737a - this specific and exact version.
Forum is everything but NOT normal AFOL public.
99% of my buyers don't even know there's a Forum, and even if won't
go there.
AFOLs, for a immense majority are building/fixing existing (more or less recent)
Sets, or picked from the web like Rebrickable, or making their own creations.
To play/create with - not to collect or reconstitute.
They wish a Minifig Head with (some) Smile - and don't care for any Hollow,
Blocked or Plain one - just the freaking cheapest and most available.
As a seller, a buyer, an AFOL still creating in LEGO since I'm kid, I'm
sorry, but I really can't see how a Poll would be necessary.
And don't worry, LEGO and BrickLink have studied this for a long time with
much efforts and stats.
Random Price Guide example:
Total New 3747a Blue sold on BrickLink for the last 6 months: 109
Total New 3747b Blue sold on BrickLink for the last 6 months: 7794
The vast majority of LEGO users and BrickLink members are not here for specific
versions.
This change is to simplify the majority of members, and to still alow very specific
demands.
That seems a very smart approach to me, don't you think so?

I really don't care. I'm just bothered by the illusion of putting an
"idea" out to the forum to get feedback when something has already been
decided. If you really want to let the users decide on something then create
a poll and put it to the users. If you have already decided on making a change
and trying to convince yourself and forum readers that you are doing the right
thing, do it on the forum. You will have some detractors and you will have your
cheerleaders. The cheerleaders will make you believe you were right and there
is no reason to change course because enough people seem to agree with you. You
my friend, if you didn't know it, are a cheerleader. You can read through
the thread and also find the detractors. But it's usually the cheerleaders
that make the OP feel good about their original decision and feel like this matter
has been discussed in the public so they have done their due diligence - even
though the decision on what to do was already made weeks ago. The detractors
are now somewhat satisfied because they have had their say, even though it didn't
count for anything (and they probably knew that). It's just a way to market
a possibly unpopular idea.

| I propose a simple poll. You are not going to get a good idea of what buyers
and sellers on BL actually want unless you send out a poll. Either you have already
made the decision and you're just trying to smooth the transition by having
a forum discussion about it - OR - you really care about what the majority of
users want and you put it to a poll.
Just send out an email to a poll hosted on bricklink or where-ever asking a yes
or no to merging variants and state your case. Then let the people give you their
feedback. Give the poll a couple weeks and then show the results and make your
decision based on that. That would be a much more transparent way of doing this
- especially considering all the work people have put in and the knowledge that
would be eventually lost.
Again, if you don't care what BL users want, then by all means, just make
whatever decision you have already made and we'll all have to live with it.
But if you do care, put it to a poll. Actually find out what people want. You
could even stick in a few other poll questions at the same time that might be
helpful to your marketing team.
You won't regret sending out a poll but you might regret NOT sending out
a poll.

entries is not in this list, so it seems incomplete. This is likely going to
result in us having to shut down the business for one or two days and figure

Russell clarified that 3068b and 3068a (and other tiles) won’t be merged: the
“With Groove” will be removed from 3068b and, IIUC, 3068b will become 3068.
Like we have 3001 and 3001old.
Don’t know if 3068a will become 3068old though, but the entry will be kept separate.

Aha, thanks for clearing that up, Jen and Sylvain. So, in that case that list
actually is complete (and potentially definitive). Good to know.
And @Jen I agree that removing specifications from the name that are very rarely
relevant (anymore) is a good thing. That sort of thing really does scare casual
buyers away as they can get overwhelmed and don't understand what elements
of the name/description are relevant to them. Bricklink is a lot to take in.
And removing "smooth" slopes is good too, I never acknowledged that as
a legitimate thing in the first place
Ok, seems the changes are not as dramatic as I feared at first. The amount of
duplicate lots this will produce will not be that numerous for most sellers.
But I do hope Russell will find some time before the deadline to clarify in that
list which exact item numbers are going to be removed and which ones will stay.
That way, once the change is made, sellers can spot their duplicates easily.
And I can make some adjustments to make sure the sync system here works correctly.

For the Duplo bricks and the Blocked and Vented studs, there are just too many
to list at this time, but people can do a search for them in their stores.
We will need a full list to send out the notification next week though, so that
will be coming.
Concerning the removed vs changed, nothing will technically be removed from the
catalog. All items will be merged to a similar item and the lots in stores will
be preserved. In some cases, just the Item Name and Item Number will be adjusted,
and that may not require any text to be added to the comments section.
But the easiest thing would simply be to add notes to every listing on the list.
I have found it helps buyers have confidence that a variant is correct when a
note is present, even if the note simply duplicates the info in the Item Name.

For those fans who haven't put much thought into this or are opposed to diversifying
the LEGO minifigure population, I'd urge you to read the above article. It's
well-written and researched, and says everything that needs to be said on this
topic.
In short, I don't at all agree with LEGO's staunch position on "yellow"
washing its minifigs that don't represent a certain IP. Their argument (as
quoted in the above article) that yellow is "race-neutral" is insulting,
as only light-skinned people can truly relate to that tone of color.
I'm personally interested in buying my first modular sets, but I also know
that I will have to spend money to swap out the heads, arms and some torsos to
make it representative of the world I live in, and the people I know.
I strongly believe that LEGO needs to do better, swallow its pride and discontinue
yellow minifigures. They're boring and lazy anyway.
I love LEGO and will be a lifelong fan. I just wish the brand matured with the
times quicker, and embraced cultural diversity.

Sure looks like modern Pearl Dark Gray, but I can’t find a unique production
number for this part in that color. How does it look next to other PDG parts?

Here it is next to several other PDG parts, as well as a few Dark Bluish Gray
and Pearl Light Gray parts

If I had to guess, i'd say it came from build a minifigure (BAM) in LEGO
stores. They sometimes produce unique colours not in sets and not picked up by
BL.

| I think there's a bug with the download inventory feature.
If I download my whole inventory as a CSV file, the category column shows the
major category as well as the sub-category. Example: Parts / Minifigure Headgear
If I download my stockroom A inventory as a CSV file, the category column only
shows the major category. Same example: Parts (no sub-category)
But if I download all my stockroom inventory (A, B and C), the sub-categories
are back.
Can anyone else collaborate this bug?

Right so I looked at the instructions for both sets that these bunnies come in
and one shows LBG eyes and the other white. Let's assume that wasn't
a misprint.
So here's a practical question. Let's say you pull one of these bunny
heads out of a lot of used LEGO... how would one tell which head they have found
if they both look exactly the same and there is no reference point?

Yep, I have 7 item removals on my activity screen. It doesn't happen too
often, but it's handy when it does. Sometimes it works out that an order
is delayed using the tool so I can catch up with other orders.
I would also like a similar tool to add items to an order as previously requested:

These tools just seem like common sense to have - even if not used a lot. I am
not in favour of removing any seller tool - cherish the ones we have.

Sorry, that's confusing to me. So someone dug up an unused lego mold (watched
doc where it mentioned LEGO buries them so they are never used again - memory
could be wildly wrong) and then made their own parts with an official mold. That
sounds bad. Did I interpret that wrong?
