Dear BrickLink Members,

We’re proud to share that the BrickLink Designer Program will live on! We’ve learned from the BDP 2021 Invitational, and the program is here to stay. Series 1 is the first in the new, permanent program. We’ll continue learning and adjusting to make each future Series better.

How Series 1 will work
how is series 1 going to be
Series 1 will span 2023 and early 2024, with these milestones:
how will the series 1 going to go.

Create Your Designs: December 9, 2022—February 2023
We invite all LEGO enthusiasts 18 and older to design your models in Studio.
Open Submission: February 1—28, 2023
Submit your models during a 4-week window to be considered before the deadline on February 28, 2023 at noon Pacific US time.
Crowd Validation: March 7—March 31
We invite all BrickLink members to vote for their favorite submissions. This crowd vote weighs in alongside the BDP’s internal selection criteria and influences the designs chosen for crowdfunding.
Review: April—May 2023
Our team checks every design for building experience, brand fit, and crowd favorites.
5 Designs Announced: Late May 2023
We’ll reveal the five Series 1 designs. Then we’ll collaborate with fan designers to prepare them for production.
Crowdfunding: February 2024
BrickLink members will be invited to pre-order their favorite designs, with a limit of 2 of each set per household. All designs that receive over 3,000 pre-orders will be produced. We will manufacture up to 20,000 of each set on a limited production run.
Production and Shipping: Summer/Fall 2024
We produce the sets in the factory. Orders will be ready to ship approximately 6 months after crowdfunding. Actual dates and shipping times may vary.

What calling it “Series 1” says about the Program’s future
We’re committed to helping you realize your ideas through the BrickLink Designer Program. By calling this iteration Series 1, we’re indicating the BrickLink Designer Program has matured from the one-off 2021 Invitational into a program we can sustain over time. With this and each future Series, we’ll issue a fresh brief and Submission Guidelines. This way, the program can evolve as we learn from experience during each series.

Next Steps for aspiring Fan Designers

Check out the BrickLink Designer Program homepage for the overview and detailed timeline.
Before you start building, Review the Submission Guidelines, which all submissions must follow.
Download the latest version of BrickLink Studio, which includes the BDP Series 1 Palette.
Register for our live webinar December 14th at 8am Pacific / 5pm CET to learn more about the Submission Guidelines. Can’t join live? We’ll make a video available after the session.
Ask any questions in the new BrickLink Designer Program forum, where we will monitor and respond.

We’re looking forward to your submissions!
The BrickLink Team

It is original. I do not use any printed or stickered parts. There aren't
any minifigures.

Because you’re citing the set it’s made from.  (Which pedantly makes it a MOD,
not a MOC.)
Yes, you’re following the Activity’s rules but this is a Gallery rule: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2504

I am so baffled right now.

Well, most people are baffled by IP rules.

I am glad I am not the only one.

Thank you SylvainLS.

Cass T

Indeed, there’s no tags on your design.

AFAICT, you need to unpublish it before being able to re-edit the tags.

Then, you click in the Tags zone, and you hit “return” after each tag.

I can’t see any MOC when searching fo your ID.  Uploading to My Studio isn’t
enough, you need to publish it: https://studiohelp.bricklink.com/hc/en-us/articles/5705436653847-Publishing-in-the-Gallery

Morning all,

Continuing my quest to promote interesting Lego stories from around these fair
isles I saw this in the papers today:-

https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2023/mar/20/ai-weiwei-lego-re-imagining-of-monet-water-lilies-to-go-on-show-in-london

Top effort, interesting sub story I might chase down TLG refusing to sell him
bricks, one supposes to avoid offending a large eastern market???

Enjoy.

Still puzzled as to what happened in the past that make so many people advertise
literally any product from this (for those who might see this after the original
post gets canceled and if this dosnt it’s something “legalized”) to alien abductions
like what is the target audience

Hmm, quick search¹: 481.6 billions water bottles per year.  Not sure they are
all in PET but a lot would be.
And then there’s questions like how many bricks do you make with one bottle?
And wouldn’t that slow down our quitting using water bottles: eh, it’s okay,
we can still use them, 0.01% of them are recycled now!

But I think we’re good for a few years of LEGO bricks

  Hello everyone,

i am going to the LIT from 30 aug - 02 sept.

Nice you're on!

Although 2.000 euro to get a tour, a chat with employees/designers and a special
set, I think it is far overpriced.

Anyway, have fun and enjoy the stay in Denmark (be aware of strict border controls!)
and tour ofcourse! (does anybody know what set it is in 2022?)

i go by car, so bordercontrols will do with my dutch passeport
set is 4000037

Are you planning to open the set? I'm sure many fans would be very grateful
If you submit the inventory for it.

my set will be closed, but on internet there is already a video of opening the
set

It would be great to see the pages of parts from the building instructions, and
to know if Lego plans in the near future to make the medium blue containers 30150,
used so far only in this set, available for normal purchase.

i am going to the LIT from 30 aug - 02 sept.

If you submit the inventory for it.

my set will be closed, but on internet there is already a video of opening the
set

I was thinking the same. €2000 for about 3 days!
It most likely is a fun tour etc but I would spend this amount on a much longer
and further away vacation.

Yes, enjoy your stay and make lots of fun.
Be a good Dutch citizen, not like the ones we so often read about in newspapers!

The two cats mentioned in my terms, Godric (back, nicknamed Muffin) and Odo (front,
nicknamed Floof). They're both sweethearts who like to nap, yell for food
and pets, and chase each other around the house playfully.

A few more:
First one is Abby. She was thrown out of a car on a busy street in from of the
school where my wife taught. A student brought her in, the cars stopped and
people picked up the 8 kittens. We kept her. The cat, not the student.
Second is Wendy. I got her when she was 1 day old. She was born between the
floors of a trailer. I had to scoot under a house trailer with all sorts of
spider webs. I hate and am afraid of spiders. I took her to the vet and he
said I would never save her. I did. I had to force feed her for a couple of
weeks and then bottle feed her ever 3 hours for what seemed like forever. My
wife was gone for 5 weeks visiting her family. At 4 months I adopted her our
and when I handed her to the young girl she clawed into my shirt and did not
want to let go. I missed her terribly and still do. In today's vocabulary
I felt like her birthing parent.
third: Cinderella again, I forgot the story. I was volunteering with the El
Paso Police Department sitting at the front desk telling people where to go,
answering questions, just taking that burden off the police officers. A gangster
looking guy came in with all sorts of tattoos and I though "oh no, I hope this
is not trouble." We had several pictures posted about gang members that hate
police officers and had made threats. When he got to the window he reached under
his coat (I was alarmed) and pulled out this little kitten. He said he found
it on a busy street and did not know what to do with it. I took the kitten and
went home. I learned a very important lesson that day. Don't judge people
by the way they look. It was an epiphany for me. Something I felt I knew, but
did not always practice. The "gangster" taught me something.
The last two are two of our outside only cats. Chancy was the Mama's baby
and they hung around together for two years. These two lived on our porch and
were always together. Chancy was ran over and Mama yelled all day and all night
looking for her. I had to go to the vet and get tranquilizers for her. She
was inconsolable. Mama, last picture, is still with us and on very hot days
and cold days we bring her into the guest bathroom for the night. She is feral,
but I can pick her up and pet her. She has been our porch cat for over 7 years
now.

(I know I went on and on but cats are a very important part of my life.)

Never miss an opportunity to show the loves of my life.
first picture is of 5 of my cats: Sammi, Kati, Maggie, Mindy, Pepper
second: The three cats we got at 3 weeks old, left in a backyard of one of my
wife's students. Adopted out two and kept one.
third: Chelsea who died 15 years ago at 18 years, I still miss her and cry.
She wondered why the monorail fell when she bopped it.
fourth: How did she get up there. We adopted this one from the Humane Society
because she know how to get out of the cage all by herself. Lifted the latch
and was free.
fifth: Kati, Maggie, Sammi looking at out outdoor only cats
sixth: Mindi, the one of the three we kept
seventh: Cinderella, I wanted to keep her but a little old lady fell in love
with her at first sight so we let her go.
eight: Pepper, got her from a parts warehouse and she was covered in grease.
Adopted her out and the couple didn't want her after about 2 months so we
took her back in. She amazed me that she would take any paper she could find
and put it in the bottom of one of our chairs, hording it for when she might
be hungry. That really touched my heart.
Love each and everyone of these cats, they have brought so much joy to our lives.
A few more to follow.

I guess, like a lot of things, it is all a lot easier than it used to be in the
"old days". Drones allow you to get instant aerial views of projects on this
scale, and as Yorbrick says GPS combined with aerial mapping mean modern farming
has been revolutionised allowing sowing and harvesting to all be plotted in advance.
I guess you just transfer these skills to a more artistic outcome.

Bloody impressive though.

They do them every year on a different subject. They've done Harry Potter,

There is a small airfield near by and sometimes gliders or microlites fly over.
Another popular way of looking at them (and the rest of York) is taking a hot
air balloon trip.

It is just a couple of miles from me. The sad thing is once you are in the maze,
it could be any pattern, you wouldn't know.

I wonder what the LEGO lawyers think of it.

The fact that the head of marketing for UK and Ireland has commented on it i'm
guessing they're ok with it! I wonder if LEGO were contacted beforehand?

We were in a small maze at Eastnor Castle yesterday and the day before we visited
Puzzlewood in Gloucestershire.

The walk is amazing in Puzzlewood, it’s like a maze but it’s not on the flat,
certainly not for those unsteady on their feet, their tiny so called maze isn’t
really a maze.

I live in Milton Keynes and didn't even know about this! I'm working,
so can't attend, but I would have loved to :'

I would like to get some opinions about a brick convention that is coming to
Maine this spring. It is called BrickUniverse LEGO Fan Festival. Apparently
it is a travelling show. I've wanted to attend such a gathering but I'm
a little leery about it.

First ,from what I can see, it is primarily LEGO MOC displays and some vendors.
No talks or workshops that I can tell.

Second, it is $15 per person over the age of 2. So for my family it would cost
$45. That seems quite high for just seeing some displays. And the $45 is only
for a 2.5 or 3 hour block of time, not an all day admission.

Third, vendors are charged $450 per table with a two-table minimum. So to make
that up in sales, they will bring primarily the high-end items and more than
likely charge much more than what I could buy for here on BL. For me personally,
that's not what I'm looking for.

I'm drawing my comparisons to stamp shows. I collected stamps for decades
and went to many shows. They were almost always free, or just a small nominal
charge and no time limit. The MOCs are comparable to the stamp exhibitions and
the stamp dealers to the vendors.

Has anyone heard of/gone to this BrickUniverse? What was your experience? Worth
doing? My instincts say no. I would like to attend a convention at some point
- Boston is the closest major city to me - about 4+ hours away. Is there a convention
worth travelling to?

Bill

BrickUniverse is a LEGO Fan Festival, and it is a traveling show. However, since
it lacks the talks and workshops, it's not really a convention. Nothing
personal against the BrickUniverse organizers, but in today's LEGO-crazed
America, it's basically a cash grab. That doesn't mean you wouldn't
enjoy it though.

Unfortunately I don't know of any conventions in or close to Maine. There
are definitely quality AFOL conventions out there though, if you are willing
to travel.

Does anyone know if TLG has ever done an "event build" at Michael's craft
stores like they have done at Barnes and Noble, JoAnn Fabrics, Target, etc?

Thanks,

BrickLink, could you please clarify how the digital intructions will work.
I can't find any specifics on this site. The press release says LEGO Building
Instructions mobile app
only.

Is there going to be a PDF version?
Would you consider to offer printed instructions as an option for people
who want to pay extra for them?
What about DRM? How do you check that only set owners can get the digital
instructions? Are instructions linked to a serial number or unique QR code on
the box or to an account? Are instructions transferable in case the set changes
hands?

Thank you.
