I live in Canada and if I'm not signed into my seller account then part out
price shows in USD. It changes when I log in to CAD. It's not much help but
seems to follow what everyone is saying.

Hi
Is there a way to change the currency for the part out value under price guide?
Probably not, but I'm asking because I get SEK everywhere else but always
USD under Part out value.
It's a bit annoying to have to convert it, especially since it's in SEK
on Rebrickable. They differ wildly in value though, so I'm not entirely sure
which is right. same with Brickstore.

As far as I know you can't choose to view a different currency than the one
used to make the order at checkout.

I don't see a currency option under price guide settings. I see the prices

According to
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=436
for sellers the price guide currency is the same as the store currency. So you
you would have to change your store currency here:

Of course! That's the solution Turez! Thanks so much guys! This has bothered
me for years, after I left the UK after Brexit.

Yes, of course here I'm serious.

Do you really think that rates would be variable and matching in 33 cases, and
then FIXED by magic since 10th of January, IN EVERY SINGLE CASE?

I can't see anything with this resolution; post pics on Imgur for instance.

I guess you opened a ticket; then I don't see much you can do more here,
sorry.

an option for US accounts to transfer other currencies than USD to bank accounts?

Can't you just open a Euro wallet within your PayPal account? My account
can accept GBP, Euro and USD and each goes to a different wallet.

I'd have to look in to it. The primary goal is to not have to worry about
any transaction/wire/conversion fees. It's a teensy portion of bricklink
sales but every bit helps to avoid conversion fees.

It used to be that you could have multiple wallets and link each to a different
account in different countries. My Euro wallet used to be linked to a Dutch bank
account. But that was pre-2016 and things could well have changed if you want
to transfer money out. You can still use different currency wallets to collect
and spend via PayPal but withdrawing might be different now.

If you have a business PayPal account, you can except other currencies without
problem and use those currencies without problems. In order to withdraw or transfer
those currencies, I have to convert them into USD before transferring to my own
bank account. That might be my bank though. I am not clear on this point.

It seems to be fixed by now but an explanation by BL/TLG would be nice since
sellers accepting foreign currencies lost up to 10% or even more during this
period due to this bug.

How can we get the money back we lost?
I hope we can get our money back in some form or way, maybe in BrickLink fee
credit.

And I'm a small business.
Imagine the same issue laying around for months, for hundreds (if not thousands)
of related stores, with an inventory and order rate 10-100x bigger than mine.
How big $$$ pile is that ?!?

I do really truly hope that this is "just" a bug, and not some kind of
shady practice by LEGO/BrickLink!

Waiting for this to be resolved ASAP!

That's what I was talking about, thanks for the confirmation! Anyway it seems
to be fixed now, isn't it? I took the picture from your store, according
to it 1 EUR now equals to 383,22 HUF which is almost correct. Both xe.com and
Google now shows 1 EUR = 383,47 HUF.

I know PP restricts accounts based in some countries to withdraw in their local
currency only. You should check first if your US based PP account allows withdrawing
EUR or USD only. If so you can create a Wise account and withdraw EUR there.

Stupid question, but did you compare xe.com at approx the same moment of the
payment
, not a few hours later or the next day?

I'm not sure about this, but I think BrickLink was having an exchange rate
refresh every hour, then recently it's once per day, and I guess "EST
day", which makes it even more complicated.

I hope you are serious, because it would be extremely weak for being a joke!

I compared the order dates with the historical XE charts inspecting the given
date. It would be basically impossible to track the rate exactly at the payment,
but since I am very quickly send out my invoices, and receive the payments quickly
as well, it is irrelevant.

Additionally, rates haven't been fixed until the 10th of January. On that
day, something has happened...

In line 26 you can see the "..."s, there are like 30 perfectly matched
(BL to XE) records there, and below line 31 as well. I've checked at least
50 separate orders manually.

Do you really think that rates would be variable and matching in 33 cases, and
then FIXED by magic since 10th of January, IN EVERY SINGLE CASE?

See the A, F and G columns, and compare the diff% in column I!

Are you kidding me? 0.00% diff until the 9th of January, and since the
10th of January, 1-18% diff?

There are 3 instances between 10-Jan and 18-Jan, these are fine, but just because
of the fact that the EUR to HUF rate was exactly @ ~396,90 at that time on XE.com
also.

Re forum thread https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1373481

I've also lost more than 50 Euros in the last months, regardless the foreign
currency!

The exchange rate was fine until the end of 2022.
Apparently LEGO/BrickLink set it to a fixed higher rate since then, and - due
to the strengthening of my currency - I've lost ~1-5% per order in every
case, when the Customer paid in a foreign currency (USD & EUR, in my case). Not
counting with the robbery over at PayPal - but that's another story.
They basically fixed the EUR-HUF and USD-HUF rates @ ~396,90 on 10-01-2023!
Look no further than column "F"...

Again, user "rankster" is correct (https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1397761)
- before some of you might tell me/us again - this has nothing to do with PayPal,
nor with VAT. My VAT status has unchanged, and I also exempt from VAT.

I've made a quick summary, I obviously validated this randomly with selecting
orders from the middle of the batch (with 2-3 months old, or older orders) as
well.
Find my history attached, along with the BrickLink and PayPal proofs of my latest
"gem", where I've lost EUR 18.22 !!!

I lost EUR 45.58 and USD 4.95 total in the last months, due to this exchange
rate difference.

So, dear BrickLink, what happened with exchange rates on Jan 10, 2023?

I even validated the issue with the orders I had and gave negative feedback on
- since these are permanently remain in the list, therefore I could find orders
even back from 2020 to validate my point with.
After watching the picture attached, stop telling us that it is a VAT/PayPal/whatever
issue! This is related to BrickLink exclusively.

If my friend didn't tell me, I might've missed it completely, and who
knows how much more money I would've lost.
I wanted to opt in foreign currencies since I started my business on BL, because
it is better for my customers, and I'd also receive some amount in foreign
currencies to my PayPal account also, to spend.
But now, I obviously had to disable all foreign currencies for the time being,
while this "bug" do exist.

This is outrageous, how can we get the money back we lost?

accepting other currencies than theirs are losing on it and not just because
of PP's awful exchange rate. The exchange rates used are also off.

They don’t have a VAT number in their terms or banner, so they don’t seem be
registered (or they didn’t tell BL / don’t use the VAT mechanism), so “VAT does
not apply.”
So there’s no VAT to remove before adding UK import VAT for you.

That would also suggest no VAT removal before Austrian VAT is added too, doesn't
it? So not as simple as VAT1/VAT2 ratios.

Indeed, “VAT does not apply” is for all EU.  So no VAT removed, no VAT added,
their prices should be the same for all EU.

I cannot even tell what I'd be charged in that store. I am being charged
a very specific amount for VAT on top of an amount that is to be determined,
as they don't use instant checkout to give postage costs.

1013.90 HUF for VAT on top of 420 HUF in parts plus some hidden estimate for
postage.

So I cannot tell whether I am being charged 20% VAT on top of their VAT ex or
inc rate.

1.27 / 1.20 = 1.05833333 (approximately)

So it's close, but not exact.

The 2 decimal places numbers (1.85 and (1.76) will have been rounded.

It depends what rounding has been done on the 1.85 and 1.76. I don't know
if these are rounded to nearest cent or always rounded up or down.

But rankster is saying the store isn’t VAT-registered, so “VAT doesn’t apply”
and there’s no VAT added to the store’s prices and no difference in prices wherever
the buyer is (even non-EU).

It would be far simpler for him to say which store it is so it can be checked
(1) if the store does have Hungarian VAT added to the prices for Hungarian buyers
and Austrian VAT for Austrian customers and (2) what people in other countries
see.

It seems too much of a coincidence that the difference in prices is the exact
ratio of the VAT rates, 1.27/1.20.

Once again, no.

BrickLink collects import VAT, the VAT paid when an EU buyer buys from
a non-EU seller.

That’s different from the intra-EU VAT that an EU seller collects from
their EU buyers.

When buyer and seller are in EU and when the seller is VAT-registered, BrickLink
shows the prices with VAT included (as per the law).  The VAT rate depends on
both the seller and the buyer (maybe seller’s rate or buyer’s rate depending
on the seller’s gross in EU).
Austria’s rate is 20%, Hungary’s rate is 27%.

What's Austria-Hungary's rate?

I’d say about the same as in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth… though I heard
the latter had to rise the rates after their French king absonded with the Treasury.

Finance is complicated. Rarely is it as simple as X EUR = Y USD.

Even XE.com itself says, "This is for informational purposes only. You won't
receive this rate when sending money."

In your situation I would also take only USD payments.

As a UK buyer, I rarely buy abroad due to shipping costs. If I do need to buy
abroad then chances are it is either a very good deal or I cannot get it here.
I am not going to be too bothered that I need to pay in USD and pay the extra
percentage in conversion fees. I'm not going to refuse to buy as they don't
take my currency.

Fortunately, I have a decent credit card anyway that charge mastercard rates,
so I can pay the total in USD (or whatever) direct from my card through paypal
and get charged a more favourable rate than buying using a GBP balance and converting
it to USD.

Simple: you'll lose more in fees, but do you prefer 90% or 0% of an hypothetic
international order?
That's the idea.

#1: should I try to list all the main currencies from the dozen or so countries

#2: should I only accept USD? I ask because I know that just accepting US dollars
eliminates the need for me to pay the Paypal conversion fee, but also, does that
seem to block out a substantial % of potential buyers from my non-US customers
(in your experience), Or do non-US customers tend to be able to pay in USD with
relative ease.

I accept PayPal onsite payments only.

I realize that I have to make the final decision but I'd appreciate any input.

Thank you very much!

It's usually a matter of preference, and you touched on it (the fees portion).
Do you wish your international buyers to cover the conversion fee, where it converts
from their currency to USD. Or do you wish to cover on their behalf by accepting
a wider range of currencies? Savvy buyers may opt for stores that accept their
currency to save on that, so of course, offering a wider variety may cater to
more.

What you could also do is if you find yourself buying from sellers in Canada
or Europe for example, is accept their currencies so you can keep it in your
PayPal account and then use those currencies directly when buying stores that
accept it (and then no conversion has to happen). A lot of sellers in Canada
for example accept USD because they shop from US stores a lot, so it's not
a big loss (if at all).

Emporiosa,

Thanks for your detailed response!

I think I'll just change my settings to only accept USD so I won't need
to eat conversion fees with international buyers that don't use USD. My store
is still brand new so I don't think it'll cause an uproar

I assume PayPal would then automatically convert their currency to USD before
I get the money in my PayPal account?

Do you find it necessary to explicitly state in my store terms that the buyer
is responsible for PayPal conversion fees when not using USD since I will only
accept USD or do buyers tend to already expect that type of thing when using
a non-accepted store currency?

Thanks again.

I found the answer to this question of mine with a quick Google search:

I assume PayPal would then automatically convert their currency to USD before
I get the money in my PayPal account?

YES

Do you find it necessary to explicitly state in my store terms that the buyer
is responsible for PayPal conversion fees when not using USD since I will only
accept USD or do buyers tend to already expect that type of thing when using
a non-accepted store currency?

Thanks again.

Hi, I reside in the USA and recently started a BL store and am accepting international
orders from several countries. This post is mainly geared towards other sellers
who do the same.

I currently have it listed that I accept USD, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar,
and euro.

#1: should I try to list all the main currencies from the dozen or so countries
I sell to and add those to my accepted currencies section?

  Hi

Why is Bricklink charging me with a rate of 1EUR = 0.9289 USD

XE.COM says it's 1 EUR = 0.996012 USD

The difference is absurd !

Because xe quotes a mid market rate, between buying and selling. Whereas when
you pay your fees you are essentially selling euros/buying dollars at the PayPal
rate.

  Hi there,

I would like to know the part out value of some of my sets.
Unfortunately the price guide only shows the POV in US dollars.
In my account settings the current value = euro's, so I'm not quite sure
why the part out value is shown in US dollars.
So I'm, wondering Is it because I'm only a buyer (not a seller)?
Any help would be appreciated!

Kind regards,
Mendy

As far as I know, yes. There is a 'store currency' setting which determines
it, and you can only access that setting as a seller.
