Good analogy, Pam. Thanks

I know a lot of people prefer to keep theirs sealed but I built mine as soon
as I received it. I'll say I'm not a fan of it lacking instructions...
It was hard understanding them at time due to the various angles and my phone
overheated a lot trying to render the 3D images.

It's a good display piece though. I'd only sell it if you're looking
to make money because as time goes on, more and more of these are bound to be
opened and built. I don't regret building mine.

If she doesn't think she'll enjoy building it, she should keep it sealed
and get her dad to sell it!

It's quite a famous set. It was the reason we decided to sell 10,000 copies
instead of 5,000 for the BDP invitational series. Being one of the first to go
through a new process, it has a number of unique characteristics you will not
see elsewhere, including the story of the red crab.

It is also in a line of outstanding castle sets:

Set No: BL19001 Name: Löwenstein Castle
*
BL19001-1 (Inv) Löwenstein Castle
2002 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 2019

Sets: BrickLink Designer Program
https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/series-1/482/Mountain-Fortress

This last one will be sold in the spring, and we don't know exactly how it
will fare. But it is beautiful and huge.

They are beautifully designed sets for sure.

Thank you, Russell

Thanks nubs, we got that much.

I'm speaking of opinions of the set. Opinions as to should she hang on to
it sealed. Opinions as to the set's standing within the lineup of BrickLink
Designer Program sets. The designer, backstory, etc.

In short, what's not found on pages here, opinions.

Thanks anyway

Yes rock raiders is a space theme. At least according to the video game.

HOWEVER take away the game and there is little evidence of space anything.
In the game the rock raiders come from a massive space ship that was sucked into
a wormhole. And the rock monsters are aliens.
But take the game away and they are just miners, and the rock monsters are, well
just rock monsters.

It all depends on how you look at it. There is evidence that the game was developed
with the sets, therefore meaning that the game and the theme are vary closely
related and go together.

But the theme was heavily influenced by the game which in my opinion means that
rock raiders is indeed, a space theme.

Hmmm, I was surprised to see it in my mail box today, maybe it was released early
based on location.
I’ve also added it to the BL catalog too, it’s currently pending approval.

Interesting post. I'm following it hoping to glean something about what is
a fun and fairly unique Lego line. I've always dug (pun intended)
the theme, sadly without knowing a thing of it's origin or even storyline.

5002812-1 (Inv) Classic Spaceman Minifigure

Sets: Space: Classic Space
had a booklet with a Space theme timeline in it, and Rock Raiders
is not in that. Whether that is proof that they don't consider a Space theme
is debatable.

I doubt they care too much, at least for public facing information, as it is
not a current theme. And even if it was a current theme, it would just be classed
as "Rock Raiders" for the website. There is no space theme on LEGO's
official website.

I assume that the sets would appear if it was current and you used the menu to
choose "interests" then "space", just like if you use that today
it will bring up anything space related. But that is not really a theme selector,
as if you use it now it picks up the ICONS Space Shuttle through to the Duplo
Space Shuttle, the City Space theme, the ICONS Galaxy Explorer and the Star Wars
theme. It is "space" as an interest filter for current products, not
"Space" as a branch of a historical catalogue.

Let’s not go there.
If it is your goal to put them into the ‘space’ section I would be against it,
if RR goes in other may well be following too and cumulate inside an already
large categorie.
Split categories work better in my opinion, better than subcategories.
I already think the ‘space’ section should be smaller with more having their
own categorie.

It can exist (and does), but not officially and not in the bricklink inventory.
The sticker sheet came in set 6872 and had 4 stickers on it, so any plain black
torso combined with the rest of the appropriate parts would result in a black
spaceman with stickered torso made of genuine Lego parts and people have been
doing that with all the available colors so also white red and blue. but these
are considered "custom" items, much like the dark purple spaceman because
they did not officially appear in any sets. At the time of the deletion note
they did not yet verify that and the plain yellow torso were part of set 6872
(which is why the yellow stickered version is the only one that is in the bricklink
inventory) so they stated that it was because there were no stickered torsos
at that time. But the fact that it doesn't appear in any existing set is
the reason it will remain up for deletion. If you want to add one to your inventory,
you can do so as a custom item

It may look "futuristic" but IMO the City Space sets are closer in color
scheme and "style" to some of the previous City Space lines than to any
of the golden age LEGO Space themes like Futuron or Classic Space or the like
(I will never accept anything using trans-brown or trans-black for windscreens
as being a proper Space theme...

1388 and 1393 in March 2004, and and 1390 and 1392 in December 2004. I'm
curious if it correlates with that.

I am not sure I can link it here because LEGO hasn't officially announced,
but a retailer put out pictures of next year's City Space stuff and it is
SPACE. It is distant future, I would say out past Futuron. To me it really
looks like the first direct successor to Futuron. Why can they not call this
Space?

This is another example of why categories need to have a many-to-many relationship,
and not purely a hierarchical tree structure. While this is about sets, a similar
problem exists for parts.

Brickset published the images.  I think they follow the same rules as here.

Funny, I see them more as the missing link between Spaceport/NASA sets and Classic
Space

Why can they not call this Space?

It IS called Space: there’s a big Space label with the CS logo on the boxes.

…But it’s under City 🤷‍♂️
Seems rather that City is the new System 🤪

began around 5 or 6 years old.

There have been a few sub-lines of transitional sets, which were system-like
(some people called them System Junior) which tended to have larger system parts.

In primary school, Legos was one of my favorite recess activities. Definitely
in the upper grades (4th and 5th grade) we only used System, except when occasionally
one or two Duplo bricks ended up in the box. At least I was able to work with
the scarce Duplo bricks and the larger System bricks. Even with those, I remember
that even when I managed to put something together, I had trouble pulling the
bricks back apart. At the place I went to for physical therapy after school,
they exclusively used Duplo, presumably both because of it being easier to hold
and because some of the children even older than the listed age range for Duplo
might still put things in their mouth. I remember there was a wall-mounted red
Duplo plate with a small container of bricks underneath it.
At both places we had the same kind of laminated symbols on velcro for communication
books and schedules (even though I graduated from there a year after the iPad
came out, school couldn’t get them in bulk yet). I’ve played a Duplo app before,
but I find physically constructing something more fun (even though with the Duplo
app, you can make something even if you can’t use the Primo bricks, as long as
you have switch control enabled, you let it scan through the options and once
it gets to what you want, do whatever movement or input device is programmed
to make selections).
From what I read about the 4 Juniors figures, they were made for System but were
a little taller, and like Duplo, were designed to not be able to disassemble
(unless you have actual tools, even then you risk damaging them). Do you know
if the Fabuland scale is exactly the same as System, or were they in between
the System and Duplo sizes? Wasn’t it also marketed as a first set for kids old
enough for System? It reminds me of the new Animal Crossing sets (when I was
little, Resetti made me cry but now I find him to be funny).
Also I’m curious as to why Gabby’s Dollhouse only has System-size sets (at least
for now) despite being labelled as a preschool show.
If I want to build a set instead of a MOC, is it probably easier to stick with
Duplo (I don’t think Quatro or Primo sets were made to be put together a specific
way)? Perhaps I’d be considered a toddler anyway since, even disregarding how
I get most enjoyment out of the sensory development toys/TV shows labelled as
for preschool, I’m semiambulatory (if an adult-size version of the Primo walker
existed, I would’ve used that both to get around and carry my bricks - although
I would’ve had it modified to have a lid to prevent anything from falling out)
and have went to particular movies that they say are intended specifically for
new parents who can’t get a babysitter (they say the lights are kept on, volume
is lowered, and they are tolerant of noise and encourage you to walk in/out during
the film for the purpose of soothing an infant, although in my case, I’m soothing
myself).
I wonder if it’s possible to make the Titanic build (probably with less detail)
on a larger scale with the smallest pieces being System 2x2 (red Quatros under
hull, lots of black Duplos, yellow/white/tan System)? I was excited when I saw
that set in the store (Titanic is my special interest other than Blue’s Clues),
but even if I were able to afford it (it’s hard to afford anything as a full-time
student), I wouldn’t be able to make it myself which wouldn’t be fun.

Is there no logo on 4589 (cone 1x1 - no groove)? I can't find it on any of
the items I'm about to load to the store. It's easy to find on 4589b
(with groove).

Some of the mid 1980's sets like 317-2 have parts only 2x2 or bigger.
I don't recall ever owning these and the sets (and instructions) may be
hard to come by at this point. There are also some small polybag type sets like
1725-1. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of bigger sets to build though.

I did happen to just visit The Art of the Brick show (sculptures by Nathan Sawaya)
and nearly everything he does appears to be 2x2 or larger. Some really incredible
stuff, so of course don't let yourself be limited to sets.

In LEGO products, ny.nl.jp writes:

I've used 1x2 before but I have a hard time manipulating them so I'd
rather avoid those. I already have several Duplo sets which I can definitely
do independently with my dominant hand (due to hemiplegia, with my non-dominant
hand I can only use Primo and possibly Quatro if I had any of those, assuming
they similar in size, although since Primo was intended for literal newborns
it was designed to be able to hold with reflexive grasping/minimal purposeful
use of hands, Primo is likely the easiest to hold), but I want to see what System
sets are within my ability. I love the little animals that come in the Friends
sets but they're so tiny that I struggle to pick them up.
At the same time, I most enjoy the Primo pieces designed for sensory development
that make gentle noise and/or have textures, and the cartoon characters that
appear in Duplo and non-Lego brands for equivalent age range (I have figures
from my favorite show Blue's Clues, but they were only made for a different
brand. The Josh (new host) figure looks like a Duplo minifigure but a little
taller) are what I find appealing. According to the age ranges listed on the
boxes of these sets that I find easy enough to work with independently and have
the characters that I like (Primo aka Baby
Quatro 1-3 years, Duplo 18 months - 5 years, other brands list similar age range
as Duplo), would that technically make me a toddler? Although with the recent
Lego Life magazine I got at the store, I was able to do the Morse Code puzzle
without having to refer to the provided chart (I already use Morse Code to type
on my mobile).

I don't see any problem listing them as CUSTOM Items.

Sorry but Custom items doesn't have thid definition in Help/TOS - AFAIK and
if I understand well, of course.

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=103

In particular:
Custom sets may not contain modified parts or non LEGO parts such as lighting
kits or electric motors.

Much more, I'm sorry it'll fall on:

Modified Parts: All parts listed in your store must be genuine LEGO parts
in their original, unmodified condition. Custom printed, engraved, chromed, or
painted parts are not permitted.

Good luck!

Thank you. That's what I was thinking might be the case. I'll list them
as is.

There is definitely a market for refurbished and re-coated wires, especially
the 9-volt train track connector wires and the really long 9-volt extension wires.
Just the simple fact that the supply of them is forever limited and more and
more will degrade with time.

I don't see any problem listing them as CUSTOM Items. You could have "placeholder"
lots in your shop using the regular listings that direct people to find your
Custom Lots. Custom Lots are hard to find unless people go specifically looking
for them. Perhaps Custom Lots can be Featured Items in your shop, I dunno never
tried that.

* * *
Earlier this month, my club was setting up our train layout, which uses all 9-volt.
Many of our track connector wires are beginning to lose their wire coatings
and some flaked off just by looking at them.

Since we were lacking our club member who typically supplies all the wires, I
had brought along some BRAND NEW still in sealed packages of 9-volt extension
wires. As we layed them out and looked at the unopened packages, we all joked
about what might happen as soon as we opened them to fresh air. I was betting
that the plastic coating would just go "POOF" and disintegrate into a
puff of smoke. Fortunately, nothing happened, at least as far as we could see
for now, but even being brand new out of the package, they are still several
years OLD and the wire coating will break down pretty quickly.

I'll list them
as is.

I have quite a few old wire and connector parts that the wire covering is in
various stages of degrading. I was hoping to repair the wire with a new part
and then list them for sale in an undamaged state.

Would this be violating Bricklink's terms since the wire is no longer an
"official Lego" product? I would certainly include in the listing that
the wire has been repaired with alternatively sourced wire.

Anyone ever try and sell these? Not even sure how to pack them but they are
a cool LEGO item from 2007. 4520516 is the LEGO item number on them.

Thanks for any advise!

I found that excellently argues this point and cites its sources:

https://womensbrickinitiative.com/diverse-lego-minifigure-petition/

For those fans who haven't put much thought into this or are opposed to diversifying
the LEGO minifigure population, I'd urge you to read the above article. It's
well-written and researched, and says everything that needs to be said on this
topic.

In short, I don't at all agree with LEGO's staunch position on "yellow"
washing its minifigs that don't represent a certain IP. Their argument (as
quoted in the above article) that yellow is "race-neutral" is insulting,
as only light-skinned people can truly relate to that tone of color.

I'm personally interested in buying my first modular sets, but I also know
that I will have to spend money to swap out the heads, arms and some torsos to
make it representative of the world I live in, and the people I know.

I strongly believe that LEGO needs to do better, swallow its pride and discontinue
yellow minifigures. They're boring and lazy anyway.

I love LEGO and will be a lifelong fan. I just wish the brand matured with the
times quicker, and embraced cultural diversity.

I was collecting in the 90's and I remember occasionally seeing it in small

the early 2000's.

I've literally never found it in a bulk lot. I'd say its pretty rare.

BTW - do someone knows why it's been retired?

Maybe some metal balls inside to make noise (didn't play with it) that could
leak out?

As we've been shown, they have been publicly accused that yellow minifigs
are white people, not race neutral. Many of the arguments presented can be explained
as past mistakes that will not be repeated. But leaving the public to infer
what you hope is a weak position. As it currently stands, many will read the

to come out publicly and admit that mistakes were made in the past, but that
they are committed now and going forward to presenting racial diversity in many
lines, but keeping the classic lines in an neutral world.

what you are suggesting is that Lego admit they did something that was Racist.
when they didn't

as the OP stated.. it's about Pressure

there was no 'mistakes'

Lego People are People, some have yellow skin, some have Trans Neon skin, some
don't even have a face.

there are already 'white' skinned lego people, mainly they are Zombies,
Skeletons & Ghosts...

so actually, i might agree.. there should be more diversity in the 'white'
Lego People.
representing 'White' Lego people as Skeletons, Ghosts & Zombies is not
representing 'white' Lego people properly & is kinda degrading towards
the vast genre that Lego people should be geared towards.

also, just for context, Nougat is not a race... it's a Confection.
just sayin'

So anyway, this has been a question since the inception of the Lego mini-figure
(or at least since I asked them 35 years ago).

It goes back even further to the maxi-figs of Building Set with People and Homemaker
themes. And one rather unfortunate incident (at least through modern eyes) when
it came to one set.

If you look further back (1956), some parts were painted with a "light nougat"
skin tone:

Part No: 270pb08 Name: HO Scale, Scooter Touring
*
270pb08 HO Scale, Scooter Touring
Parts: HO 1:87 Vehicles
That was the pre-yellow period.

By the mid 1960's, brick-built people with yellow skin tone were emerging:

Set No: 905 Name: Doll Set
*
905-1 (Inv) Doll Set
266 Parts, 1963
Sets: Samsonite: Basic Set
and this lasted up through 1973, right before the large people of 1974:

Set No: 2 Name: Basic Set
*
2-7 (Inv) Basic Set
139 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Basic Set

It's a soooo complex problem...

Nowadays, nobody can't decently deny that old LEGO packaging, catalogs and
comms pushing Boys to build cars, public works machinery, being in space, reign
on castles, driving boats, having tools, weapons etc - while girls could decide
their lipstick color, match their bag and decorate home with flowers, or ride
a poney... haven't promoted a quite equal social opportunity to both

There's a documentary made in Norway, arguably the country with more equal
social opportunities, that shows that when you can freely choose your job/career
(all things equal, without thinking too much on the paycheck), women tend to
choose jobs with a social component (children, school, human resources) and men
tend to choose jobs with a more focus/mind component (tech, engineering, IT)

Women need more social interaction and men don't mind working all alone.
Of course there are always exceptions. But there is nothing wrong with women
wanting different things than men.

Ideally, each person should be able to choose the job with what they feel happiest
with, stereotypes aside.

There's been some actual progresses, even some fine and spectacular ones.

Still, and mainly, Friends is for Girls and Technic for Boys - just see the box
main colors.

I see it differently. LEGO makes sets to appeal to all kids. Some kids prefer
Friends and some kids prefer Technic. In a better world they should be free to
choose by themselves.

What is really wrong is when a girl chooses Technic and her parent tells her
that it is wrong and that she should choose Friends instead (true and sad story).
Or a boy choosing Friends and so on.

Let the children play with what they want, please!

As for the topic at hand, I don't have a clear stance on it. Or maybe I have
contradictory stances on it But whatever makes a better, more just world I'm
all for it.

It turns out, Lego is health conscience in that people with yellow skin have
jaundice and if your skin and or eyes matches a Lego figure then it's
time to go to the doctor!

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/jaundice/

Jaundice is when your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow. It can be
a sign of something serious, such as liver disease, so you need to get urgent
medical help.

Lego was kind enough to create jaundice indicator test for 50+ years now!

Now of course the world is diverse with numerous different races, so the best
way to test for this is by checking your eyes. If your eyes are the same color
as a Lego figure, it's time to go to the doctor!

that yellow is "race-neutral" is insulting,

The only people that can truly relate to yellow skin are those with jaundice
and the Simpsons. Thus I suspect the OP is not really a fan of Lego, but really
just an employee of Mega Block trying create drama.

IMHO there's nothing political here - apart if you consider any subject can
be political - which can often, always (?) be the case, but then every post should
be moderated.

OP talks about the colors of the Minifigures and is LEGO fan.
This is 100% BrickLink forum raison d'être, sorry for my French.

One simple KISS way is to see it like this:

We started with Black, White, Blue, Red, Yellow Bricks.

Then we had more and more colors - up until the recent Tans, Nougat.. simply
hundred+ of colors!

Is it better now regarding the bricks colors? I'm sure you'll agree!

I guess it's (will be) the same about minifigures; more choice, more creativity,
more representations of the real world, more escape also.

Ah - and more work for Catalog people, LOL

washing its minifigs that don't represent a certain IP.

I was going to write a few paragraphs, but I will instead say that admins should
lock troll threads that seek to divide the community.

Didn't we have meaningful exchange about "color"

Thanks for sharing the picture (or would that be resharing).

This one is probably the skraglest shot of him.

I love LEGO and will be a lifelong fan. I just wish the brand matured with the

There's been some actual progresses, even some fine and spectacular ones.

Still, and mainly, Friends is for Girls and Technic for Boys - just see the box
main colors.

In short, while I'd prefer ALL Minifigures to be of a SINGLE Purple or Green
color for instance (see the Smurfs?) - yes, if there's no neutral color then
some diversity is fine and brings identification choices to everyone.

Now we've also to revise all Minifigure pictures being right-handed*, but
there's more important subjects

*ah, apart this one maybe:

Minifig No: sw0254 Name: General Grievous - Bent Legs, Tan Armor
*
sw0254 (Inv) General Grievous - Bent Legs, Tan Armor
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars The Clone Wars

I did read the article. It was disgusting.

I come to Bricklink to enjoy my Lego hobby and to get away from the "real
world" of petty race obsessed identity politics.
I consider the whole petition thing must be satire, because I refuse to believe
that any rational adult is having serious discussions about the color of a plastic
children's toy.

Yes, I said it.

Block me/cancel me if it will make you feel better.

An opinion far from being in the minority. Your position is what I would posture
as that of what the majority would intuitively think and feel, without saying
it for obvious and frivolous reasons...

Anyone that would “block or cancel” you for an opinion, is doing you a favor

Put more directly: any so inclined (fortunately for humanity) by nature is small-minded

I wanted to post here to see how many other LEGO fans have felt similar frustration
and confusion about LEGO's own cultural stance to printing yellow only minifigures
for their non-IP sets (ICONS, City, Winter sets etc, etc).

For those of you who are already on-board with this, I'll link a great article

I like the non-licensed themes as yellow, but I think there is always a niche
in the lego system for additional products.

It looks like lego friends kind of does what you're proposing.

Maybe there is a niche market for a theme that is similar to CITY, has minifigures
(not minidolls), but the skin tones of licensed themes or friends.

But I think testing that theme out in parallel to the existing themes is a far
better business approach than the lazier, less thought out, unnecessarily arbitrary
idea of "let's scrap all yellow figures because there can be only
one way
".

There are 33 billion chickens in the world, yet chickens appear in very few LEGO

sets.

Now that was good! (I used a plain smiling emoticons instead of
