I think the problem is not so much that there are illegitimate parts on BrickLink
but rather that there are illegitimate children on BrickLink

Inventories are added by volunteers like you and me it was likely pending
approval as someone was working on it but if they never finished it was changed
back to uninventoried

Any idea why this had not been inventoried yet, did see it as pending a while
back but now its back to no information. I think it might have some useful parts
in it but not sure.

Isn't that pretty much the definition of illegitimate in this scenario.

The small parts are probably easy enough to smuggle through the front door also...

Thank you,

Name change requests have been sent for both pieces.

The sticker on this part is transparent, the white color is just the color of
the brick:

Part No: 3245cpb020 Name: Brick 1 x 2 x 2 with Inside Stud Holder with Blue EMT Star of Life on Transparent Background Pattern (Sticker) - Set 60023

So the sticker description should not include "White".

For the other part I can't even say if the sticker has a white or transparent
background:

I opened up a line of dialogue with BrickLink about this exact topic just a few
weeks ago. I am still awaiting a response, but we hope to start being able to
permanently remove some of them very soon.

Cheers,

I think the answer is never, but that you cannot use them to list new lots.

(Those legitimate routes do not explain the large quantities that seem to have
become available in recent years.)

This is the issue with 'rare' test parts. They get made by the people
making the jellybean Vaders and if 'legitimate' parts are allowed then
they can be sold here whereas the other colour ones cannot. So better just to
ban the lot.

What would be a legitimate route for test parts to make it out of the factory?

I understand that they have, for example, been included in charity donations
and have at least once been given away at a LUG event.

Excellent post. I couldn't agree more with "Is there a difference between
a genuine test part that was stolen from the factory a decade ago and a new part"...

There are a LOT of parts on this site that have never been released in sets!
Q parts, etc. If only parts that have been released in sets are allowed to
be sold, we're in a lot of trouble here.

Agreed...
If LEGO has a problem with parts leaking from factories, fine. Address the problem
at the source. But DON'T take it out on the honest, hard working sellers
here by taking blind guesses as to what prototypes to allow or now...

Isn't the issue that (honest, hard working) sellers here are buying the illegitimate
parts and trying to sell them here? When setting a rule to stop the sale of illegitimate
parts, sometimes illegitimate parts that would have been allowed in the past
will now get swept up. Is there a difference between a genuine test part that
was stolen from the factory a decade ago and a new part in the same colour (or
a different non-production colour) illegitimately made specifically for the collector
market.

Ban all of these "prototypes" and it will be clear which are allowed
- none.

It woudl be straightforward to ban all minifigure "prototype" parts but
allow non-minifigure parts in non-production colours that were produced for parks,
etc. mainly as it is the minifigure parts that are driving the current craze.

I am not sure I understand this. What was the problem exactly? The quantity of
items for sale, the existence and sales of other colours (at often ridiculous
prices), or both?

When I first tried to add these parts to the catalog, they were rejected.
I was surprised that they were accepted later.

By now, I have seen at least 4 different patterns for the head, 3 different patterns
for the legs assembly, 2 different patterns for the torso, and several patterns
on other parts like bricks and plates. I am excited about seeing them and would
love to have some, but to be honest I do not think that they all belong in the
catalog.

In recent years, several of these parts have found legitimate ways out of the
factory, so I hope that sales as custom items remain allowed.

Image for reference, so people know which items we are discussing here

this looks incredibly short sighted and gives me pause to list any more Q elements
or non production parts purchased at Lego Land parks.

We can't tell the good listings from the bad, so they all have to go. Please
note we are only taking this kind of severe action on a limited number of minifigure
parts, not on every brick and plate.

These test head entries will likely be merged / deleted in the next 24 hours.

Unfortunately, there were several Glow in Dark lots for sale and there were hundreds
of the white ones. As with some of the other colors / parts, we do end up removing
some good listings with the bad.

Wow - then even chatGPT is the wrong?

The question should be “when is chatGPT ever right?”

Canada is the country closest to the USA. The distance between the two countries
varies depending on the specific locations being compared, but the shortest distance
between any point in the contiguous United States and Canada is approximately
6 miles (9.7 kilometers) at the border crossing between Northwest Angle, Minnesota,
and Manitoba, Canada.
[…]

Huh?  I’m confused here: how do they measure these distances?

What are they measuring?  The distance between two towns?
Why?  Out-of-town people aren’t considered living in the country?
And from where do they measure the distances?  The townhall?  The geographic
center of the town?
Why?  The outskirts of the town (but still inside the official town limits) aren’t
considered in the town?
And if they use the townhall/center of town for the distance between two cities,
why aren’t they using the capital/center of country for the distance between
two countries?
And if they use the towns’ nearest limits, why aren’t they using the countries’
nearest borders? Double standards.

That’s ludicrous.  Countries with a common border are 0 miles / 0km / 0 furlongs
apart.  There’s no ‘no-man zone’ between them.

(Yes, waking up grumpy.  Grumpf!)

Agreed...
If LEGO has a problem with parts leaking from factories, fine. Address the problem
at the source. But DON'T take it out on the honest, hard working sellers
here by taking blind guesses as to what prototypes to allow or now...

Why are these being deleted?
[p=3626cpb2715]
[p=3626bpb2715]

the reason "This item was marked for deletion because it was likely not a
legitimate part." makes no sense.

I received them in the same bulk parts bin from Lego as the following items

  Hello,
I would like to propose adding a note to distinguish between parts 3245cpb196
and 3245cpb020. I cannot find a way to formally submit this for catalog consideration.

The major difference between the two is that the logo on 3245cpb196 is slightly
larger. The logo on 3245cpb196 measures 11mm from top to bottom, while the logo
on 3245cpb020 is only 9mm from top to bottom.

Thank you,
Dennis

The biggest difference between the 2 stickered parts is the Rod of Asclepius
in the middle.

The Rod is white on part 3245cpb196.

The rod is blue and outlined in white on part 3245cpb020.

Hello, thanks for your reply! I did have the right part but it doesn't stay
secured. I went through all of my domes and found one that was part #26415 and
that one fits securely. Aesthetically they are the same part but there is some
small difference. I still question if Bricklink has the right part in the inventory.
In the items for sale, multiple sellers state that the helmet is loose. Thanks
for your input though, I needed a second opinion.

BL differentiates
[p=30151b]
(the part in the inventory)
and
[p=30151a]
an older version (never used in minifigs) with a noticeable difference (the stud).

But 30151b has 26451 and 38708 listed as alternate numbers.  That means the part
is found with these numbers inscribed on them but no one found any difference
between them.
But maybe there’s differences.  After all, when LEGO changes the mould number,
it’s sometimes for a real reason (the mould is different) and not just to spite
us (which they do a lot too, reusing the same number for different moulds).

Or it’s just a difference in the phase of the Moon when the parts were produced
and it happens you found one that holds better.

As far as I can see the only difference between sw1220 and sw1255 is that sw1255
doesn’t come with just the hood and without the hair piece would follow the same
logic? If not then I can’t see why sw1255 is its own sw number?

Minifigures in the catalog are based on how they are shown built in set instructions,
and they do not contain any extra hair pieces or helmets included with the sets.

Hi,

I don't have this Mr. Freeze Minifigure, but I have Red Hood, from The LEGO
Batman Movie Minifigures Series 1.

Minifig No: coltlbm11 Name: Red Hood, The LEGO Batman Movie, Series 1 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)

coltlbm11 (Inv) Red Hood, The LEGO Batman Movie, Series 1 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)
Minifigures: Collectible Minifigures: Super Heroes: The LEGO Batman Movie: The LEGO Batman Movie Series 1
They both have the same Armor Breastplate and Brick round 2x2 on top.
On Red Hood, the dome stay in place enough securely, I think.

Do you have the right Dome ? The mold number is inside

Maybe there is a way to track it, get notifications. Or simply see on bricklink
the latest additions.

Thank you soo much for helping.

The newest minifigures will tend to have the highest numbers in the item identification
such as sw0794. So make a note of the highest ones you have seen, then any higher
ones will likely be newer. Sorting by item number will show you a list of the
new ones.

Hi,
Are you sure it's 21 long and not 20 (bb0008c20L)

What LEGO set does this appear in? In order for an item to be added to the catalog,
it first must have been created by The LEGO Group. After that, it has to have
been molded and put into production, or exist as a genuine LEGO spare part with
a means to order it as a spare part.

You can't ask for a non-existent element to be added to the catalog. If you
have a genuine LEGO element of that description and a set that it came in that
was actually and really produced by LEGO, or know the means of it's creation,
you need to show that it is in a LEGO set that exists, or explain how it exists.

Please note that while prototype elements may exist, it is the decision of the
Catalog Admins as to whether or not the part will be added to the BrickLink database.

Cheers ...

Neither one has a trace of gold. Both lots I have received are tan (brick yellow)
over transparent. Is the bricklink description wrong?

The name has been corrected, thanks for spotting this.

Er, I thought they were correctly described as Tan but there’s nothing in the
changelog about that.
IMHO, they clearly are to match the rest of the Tan walls.

Yes, that is correct. They should be semi-flexible and none of ours have any
mold numbers on them. The backsides are smooth.

They are from a sealed set my husband received on his 10th birthday.

maybe

They are Plastic parts, so they should be numbered according to their Design

Thank you for the heads up and explaining the logic behind the decision. I strongly
believe that the extended descriptor should stay for a minimum on a year.

That's fine! I'm sure it does a better job than you at this

But read https://www.w3schools.com/ whatever, and progressively understand what
it does?
