  Hi,

I've bought some Lego that must have been stored in a cave. And now they
smell like a cave. They are not dirty, just smelly.
Any advice on how to get rid of the smell ?

Dawn soap works pretty good.
I wash LEGO in a 5 gallon bucket (19 liter) and use dawn soap to clean. I have
a wooden board I use as an agitator and effectively make a little washing machine
in the bucket.

Can anyone help me identify if seller A is selling fake Lego bricks? I purchased
Dark bluish grey 42796 and transparent 31570 from two Bricklink stores, however,
the bricks I received look different. The transparent 31570 from seller A looks
very yellowish and the Dark bluish grey 42796 has small circle and small Lego
logo compared to the ones I bought before and from another store. I never thought
that Bricklink has fake Lego bricks, please help.

Thanks

message the help desk and pay your fees. it takes about 3 weeks to get a response
from the helpdesk

This isn't a payment issue

Avoidance of fees typically means that the seller is trying to minimize the fees
assessed by Bricklink by having has very high extra fees that are tacked on to
the order that are not used to calculate the Bricklink fees. Having high lots
fees or high shipping fees are a typical cause.

Some state laws have lower thresholds that will still require a 1099 for under

$245.29. I’m sure it’s OK for me to quit now. I have a lot of motivation to be
a great seller on Bricklink. I want my family to support my decision on quitting
my old job.

Are you nuts?
You have made less money in four months than my teenager made mowing yards in
a week this summer.

If you quit your job will your family still have health insurance?

Keep your job, build your inventory, after a while of working on this hobby then
decide if you want to go full time. You may find that this isn’t what you want
to do and then have a house full of LEGO you need to sell.

Does this mean the seller ships out 2 of every item chosen? For example, if
I wanted to purchase a quantity of 10 of a particular lego brick, would the seller
then ship 20 of that brick? (Please refer picture). Thanks in advance!

Bulk Purchase: Example Quantity: 10 (x2)
A limited number of parts require that they be purchased in bulk.
For example, a listings that has "Quantity: 10 (x2)" means there are 10 in stock,
and that the part must be purchased 2 at a time.
So that means...
2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 of the part can be purchased.
1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 of the part cannot be purchased

Doh!
Ah - and what about 11???

11 would be disallowed in this example as there are only 10 parts available.

sale is 100+ times bigger than my normal large orders. I would feel great pain

Is this 21-day hold a new thing now?

A couple factors could cause this.

If you paid with bank transfer, the funds could be held by PayPal until they
fully clear.
If the account is new for the seller, PayPal will hold funds for xx days to ensure
they aren't a scammer.

packed in a cardboard box.

Buyer received box, noted the outside carton was damaged, then opened and is
now unhappy that the inside box received some creases during shipment. I offered
to send him $10 back so he can buy a new box from another seller but he's
not open to that solution. Saying he's going to go to PayPal and complain.

What kind of support does Bricklink provide in this instance or am I out the
$ and the kit?

First kit I've sold in a while, and first unopened kit I've ever sold
(it was a duplicate I had ordered by mistake and forgotten about.) I'm a
builder and not a collector.

Thoughts?

Depending on the set the box is worth much more to me than the parts and pieces.

I've noticed a couple of stores marking their shipping up to extraordinary
prices. I was just quoted $19.95 to send 4 minifigures and the pizza van across
one state. This is starting to smell like when eBay sellers upcharge for shipping
only to use a cheaper version. For the first 20-25 transactions on here, there
were no problems, never over $8-9 and I bought creator sets etc, but now it's
$19.95 for two sub 8 oz 'sets'? Anyone else experienced this lately?

Some sellers use packaging provided by USPS to send packages. These have preset
shipping rates assigned to the size of the package. Based on the price, the
seller could be using a large flat rate shipping box.

If they are shipping you this set, it weighs nearly 14oz.

My sister sells insurance and I asked this question.

She recommended a separate policy for the business and her company policies wouldn't
provide enough coverage for a small business. There is a limited amount of coverage
for personal assets through homeowners, however it would be combined with all
your home's belongings. In the event of a total loss she didn't think
I would be adequately covered.

In Selling, HoleintheWall writes:
tldr: need insurance company in Ontario, Canada that will cover home insurance
and business-in-home insurance.

I started my Bricklink business around 1.5-2 years ago, and am in the process
of starting up a small computer business as well. Between the two businesses
the assets are material enough that I would like to have them covered by insurance.
I called up my insurance company (TD) to see if I could get coverage added to
home policy for business assets.

After waiting for a few days they called me back and told me that not only will
they Not cover it, but they will not be renewing my policy when it expires as
well. I asked for clarification and they stated that the value of my business
assets exceed their risk tolerance values. I than asked what if I purchased separate
commercial property insurance for the business assets and they stated the policy
would still not be renewed.

Soooo, that leaves me looking for a new insurance company. I've started calling
around to a couple different insurance brokers in town, but I was wondering if
anybody here might have some suggestions.

If you are giving tax advice and you have to start the statement with "I doubt",
I suggest not giving tax advice.

The cash method is just that, you can deduct what is paid in cash. You can even
deduct the items you paid for in cash and have not received in hand (it is called
prepaids). If you elect the cash method you can deduct 100% of your inventory
purchases in the year that the cash was spent. Inventory includes, LEGO, packaging,
envelopes, and other supplies.

A common practice in farming is to pay for the seed in December for what will
be planted the next spring. The seed dealer will not deliver the seed until
the spring and the farmer will take the tax deduction a year early.

Is there any consensus about how to report taxes this year?
Before due to fuzziness of TCJA (Tax Cuts and Jobs Act) it was possible to fully
deduct inventory purchases.
But due to update from 2021 (https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2021-01-05/pdf/2020-28888.pdf)
as long as there is some inventory tracking exists ("their books and
records") we are supposed to switch to accrual method.
What is acceptable way to track inventory capital costs? With the heavy mix of
used bulk Lego which goes through many presorting and merging stages tracking
of individual part cost is not really possible. Would it be acceptable to use
"for sale" price of inventory in BL with some estimated coefficients for estimated
cost/price for main categories like minifigs/used parts/new parts?

If your company revenue is under $25,000,000 you can elect either cash of accrual.
Likely cash will be the best option for a Bricklink store.

"cash or accrual" Sorry for the mistype.

Store remains closed.

Two things:

It is ridiculous that a buyer and seller account are interlinked causing issues
between the two functions.

Secondly, admin should respond much quicker to closed store issues. Not that
I am selling much, but its frustrating how this process works.

Has to be looked at.

If an admin reads this, can you please unlock my store. Thanks.

If you change your address at checkout does it cause these problems? I will
occasionally purchase items for others (without changing country) and I change
my address at checkout (not in settings).
This has created no problems for my account.

It is often repeated in the forum that charging PayPal costs to the buyer would
be illegal in the EU. I was of that opinion myself.

However, this is not the case.

It is legal for a company to charge the customer the costs for paying
with PP with the restriction that only the actual cost charged by PP may be transferred
to the buyer; so not a plain fee or an overall percentage.

Source Google https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=paypal+transactiekosten+doorberekenen

Since the introduction of PSD2 (February 2019), companies are no longer allowed
to charge surcharges for payments with debit card, credit card (from Visa and
Mastercard), transfer and direct debit. This is allowed for other payment methods
such as PayPal, iDeal and post-payment methods such as Klarna and Afterpay.

An eye-opener for me.

It is against PayPal Terms not against the Law, they say something in the lines
that you must not charge any fee for one Payment method you offer and not for
others, so the same for all or nothing for all.

The laws of the EU are dominant, PP should obey these laws.
Here's a popular analogy: two persons (or companies) could make a legal contract
that one can kill the other without consequences. For the law however this is
still murder and you can't get away with your contract - even if it's
agreed upon between the participants.

Regardless of the laws, PayPal can discontinue doing business with anyone who
breaks their terms of service.

Buyer also claimed the items were counterfeit. These scams often have 2 embedded
claims so that if one fails (the urine bs) there is still the other one to deal
with. Also, if the odor was a pungent as the buyer claims the post office would
not have delivered it. Urine is considered a toxic substance and must be properly
packaged.

https://about.usps.com/posters/pos138/pos138_hazard_007.htm

Good point

I would offer return shipping with a prepaid label and provide a refund upon
receipt of the items. I would also video opening the package that was returned.

Why do this?

Why, because that is how I would choose to handle this situation.

Even if PayPal decides against her, buyer still has to return the
items at their own expense.

Incorrect
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/returns/terms

I have never heard of a successful PayPal appeal
using video, would love to hear about anyone being successful with video of opening
the package.

I haven't heard of video evidence failing.

Kind of a long story, buyer contacts me last month asking if I'll please
open my store so they could purchase a couple of figures. Wasn't really
interested, but gave them the password anyway (my first mistake), and they made
a purchase. Pulled the order and sent invoice, instead of paying they waited
awhile and used the password to add another figure. Pulled it and sent another
invoice, same thing, they waited awhile and added another figure, pulled it and
sent an invoice, you guessed it, they waited, used the password and added another
figure. Each time resetting the time.

Anyway, once I was wise to this scenario I changed the password and waited.
Finally messaged asking if they were going to submit payment or if there was
a problem I should be aware of. Response was, I'll be submitting payment
today. Waited several more days and finally opened a NPB. Buyer paid that evening
and I shipped the order the next day. Mostly brand new never assembled CMF's
with leaflets and packages.

Tracking shows the order was delivered a few days, so today I get this message:
"Hi! I have received the package. But all of the figures are so permiated with
cat urine, As I was walking out to the mailbox I could even smell it. Maybe
by a compensating half refund That would be fair. Let me know what you can do!
Thank you Kindly!"

I did respond in anger (my second mistake), "Seriously? Guessing this is a pathetic
attempt at retaliation, since you couldn't
be bothered to pay for your order until I filed a NPB. Especially since I don't
even have a cat."

So this is where we are now, see pic. Between 1000's of transactions between
here and Ebay I've never had a claim made against me, but hear all the time
that Paypal always sides with the buyer, does anyone have any suggestions on
how to proceed. In a normal situation I'd simply tell the buyer to return
the order for a full refund including shipping, in this case I seriously doubt
mu merchandise would come back the same way it was sent.

It is possible an animal entered the delivery truck and did it's business
on your package. I have left my car door open for minutes and my neighbors cats
entered my car. I think the cats thought my car was either a fun house or had
something good to eat (or both) as the cats entered my car a few times.

I would offer return shipping with a prepaid label and provide a refund upon
receipt of the items. I would also video opening the package that was returned.

has been much better.

If you select these, also make sure that all of your items are set to Instant
Checkout. Run this report on the Inventory page.

But with "show new buyers only instant check-out options", it might be difficult
to set an automated shipping cost calculation. It sounds to me that it either
ends up turning down potential buyers with no such automatic calculation, or
the buyer might need to pay again for the miscalculated shipping cost.

There is a trade off, either take the risk of losing customers or take the risk
of new buyers. Your choice, either has good and bad consequences.

I have had zero Non-Paying-Buyers in the last 6 months.

All items in my store are 10% to 30% off my normal pricing. Please consider
placing an order.

I have uploaded anything for a while and I have been fairly inactive with this

This sale is to clear out inventory and free up space. I don't plan to be
active in 2022 and hope to restart my LEGO hobby in 2023.

If you pay onsite, generally you can change the shipping address as you check

I’m hoping to get some advice. I bought a Star Wars New Order Assault Walker
(item 75189) last year as I saw that it was to be discontinued. It’s still sealed
in the box but there’s a large rip in the back of the box.

I wondered if anyone could advise if this has significantly affected the value
and if so what the likely value would be.

Thanks in advance!

The box is listed for $17 to $35, there has been only two sales, $13 and $20.
Deduct an amount from the sealed price in box for what you would value the box.

There are 8 people who want this in black, but not in the catalogue as you mentioned.

Several years ago there was a seller in Canada who custom made these wheels and

third party network platforms like PayPal will be issuing forms and reporting
to the IRS for all accounts if the transactions exceed $600 for that year. Fortunately,
they did make the clarification that this will only apply to things that are
categorized as “Goods or Services” as opposed the “Friends and Family” option
with PayPal.

Anyone on this site taking payments under the Friends and Family category would
be committing tax fraud, I am not entirely sure why you would even bring tis
up in this setting.

It is important to me that "Friends and Family" are excluded from the reporting.

I receive "Friends and Family" payments from my Family for reimbursement of Christmas
presents we go together and purchase for my parents or many other items. So
yes it is appropriate to bring up "Friends and Family" payments on the forum
and it is useful for others to know that "Friends and Family" payment types are
not included in the 1099.

See screenshots with instructions.

There is a setting to allow sellers to enter the tracking number directly into

see "customize display" click on the "all" link to see all of your orders.

Next, check the box next to tracking number and click "submit changes".

Go back to your orders page and the "tracking number" column will be active.
After you put a tracking number into this box, it will display on your buyers

Another tip, I use the tracking number field to track if I have purchased postage

Would you say they are legitimate? I just don't want to list them unless

I'm going through a bunch of Star Wars minifigs and generally know to look
on the torso neck stud and the inside of the bottom of the legs for the Lego
logo, but am trying to determine where else to look for assurance my minifigs
are legit and not fakes. For example, my Commander Cody's helmet doesn't
appear to have the Lego ID anywhere on it. Does anyone know where to find this?
I'm only seeing a "C" on the inside top part of the helmet. Any tips? Thanks!

Many helmets and hair, including several SW ones, do not have a Lego logo, but
instead just a "C". Most likely that piece is genuine.

I believe this is the exact part I was requesting be added to this help page.
