What is your opinions on variant policies?

I like to buy the correct variants, I try to list the correct variants too. Sometimes
(a) variant might be 0.05c and the (b) variant can be $2

there are a growing number of sellers listing the (a)0.05c part variant in the
(b)$2 variant category and then writing they have a variant policy (basically
they don't sort the variant) but this is clearly a deceptive policy
because they will 99% be selling the (a) variant in the more expensive (b) variant
category to maximise profits.

This is very annoying firstly because when I buy the parts, I want the correct
parts, sometimes I have to buy the part two or three times before I get the actual
correct part/variant I want, if a set comes with (a) I want (a) not (b), if I
wanted (b) I would buy from the (b) listing!,

should I have to email the seller every time asking if it is indeed correct,
It kind of slows down the ordering process a lot

and secondly it effects the analytics of the value of the correct variant.

Agree with your concerns. IMO under the current catalogue setup sellers should
list correct variants and it should not be allowed to just put disclaimers in
terms.

That said, some of these variants are quite difficult to spot and mistakes can
happen and in many cases buyers actually don't care. In the early days sellers
had the option to list "undetermined variant" or choose to separate
them out, that way buyers knew what they were getting but current policy is not
to have undetermined variants of parts and I understand the logic for that too.

You shouldn't have to but if you don't know the seller (many will be
blissfully unaware of the issue) and in doubt then I guess asking up front, pain
as it is, might be the best plan.

Most interesting part already is I can’t find one thing regarding fakes.
Not one topic or comment
Not one section whatsoever

If it’s there,it’s not obvious!

So today three fakes turned up.Seller hasn’t responded as yet but he may well
not even know,I’m trying to stay composed but I’m annoyed for sure.
Loose arm,one seems to have teeth🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️,the other two don’t.One has faded
red part on torso print, other two have a more vibrant colour. All three heads
have an open hole underneath with a triangular pattern, every other figure I already
own and checked don’t have this.

So….. who else has been faked and what’s Bricklink or Lego doing about it?

As for Chinese sellers,AVOID!

Ps i would post photos but as usual there’s an issue with that

are you sure about the heads, there are different versions...

Yes of course! It's either a seller listing mistake (at best) or an attempt
to sell toy box junk as collectable Lego, you should not accept this.

  Hi,
I ordered recently 900 items, for a total of 16.62€. The seller was applying
a packing fee of 2.5€, plus 0.25€ per lot. Given that my order including 74 different
types of items (= lots), I was expecting a total invoice of 16.62 + 2.5 + 74*0.25
= 37.62€. I received an invoice of 160.87€, because the seller split the 74 lots
in 538 ! For example, I ordered 100 bricks 1*2 white, all used, and the seller
considered them as 100 different lots!
He sent me a NPB, asking me to accept a penalty. I argued that it was not fair,
and asked him to simply cancel the order. I wanted to do it myself by selecting
the option "mutual agreement", and asked him if he agreed. But he waited
for several days to answer me, until the point this possibility (cancel the order)
was not accessible to me anymore. Now he is arguing that he can't cancel
the order, because it is written in his terms and conditions that he never cancels
orders.
I find the whole process (splitting lots to artificially increase fees, not answering
me until the deadline for cancelling ordered is passed, accusing me of not respectiung
his terms and conditions, etc...) totally unfair and dishonest. What could I
do? Except accepting a penalty, I cannot find any other option on the website
(sorry, I'm new on Bricklink).
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nico

It's great that your NPB was removed & well done for calling out this store.
I think it would only be fair if we could remove all 72 NPBs. For half of them
who were newbies it's too late they will never return, the rest should not
be punished for the seller's unfair methods.

Agreed, an email to those buyers from BL explaining what happened would be great.

As per other messages in the thread, if we had no firm orders until final price
known to buyer, then this sort of NPB wouldn't happen again and in theory
any NPB situations would be "real" ones where a buyer agreed the price,
ordered but didn't pay.

I really think it is time for BL to consider this. Not only is this fair to buyers
but also to the majority of sellers here who do not use "entrapment tactics"
with false cheap prices followed by add on charges.

Such a shop is a shame for Bricklink.

See the feedback: A lot of leavers who never came back to BL to buy elsewhere
Very bad for all user of Bricklink.

Bricklink do something about this sort of practice.

It is just another example of why BL needs to get into the 20th Century and implement
a policy that orders are not binding until a seller discloses all fees and shows
the total price for an order, at which point the buyer can agree with the price
and it becomes an order ready for payment or disagree and it is cancelled with
no possibility for either to leave feedback.

+1

and give "final warnings" to members that try such unfair trading scams
