  Hi,

It would be great the have the ability to set shipment options. In Switzerland,
Swiss Post can deliver parcels on Saturday. This implies an additional fee that
a buyer should choose at checkout.

For now, the only way to do this is to define a new dedicated shipment method
with the fee incorporated to the shipment prices. The buyer would have a new
option, beside the other methods, only to receive its parcel on saturday.

In my vision, a seller will set an option with a description and additional fees.
The buyer will have a checkbox to enable the option.

Thanks in advance for your read and I wish you a happy new year.

Jey

I see what you mean, but how many shipping methods do you currently have? You
could consider to just, as you say, add separate shipping methods for them. I
don't think it would clutter the customer's interface too much if you
make sure that all the shipping methods that are not relevant are hidden (e.g.
by placing them into the same group so only the cheapest one is displayed, or
by making their specifications mutually exclusive).

I just finish to configure the new methods and this is an abstract of what I've
done :

- Group 1 : Economic shipment (small bubble mailer, oversized small bubble mailer,
big bubble mailer, parcel)
- Group 2 : Priority shipment (small bubble mailer, oversized small bubble mailer,
big bubble mailer, parcel)
- Group 3a : Priority shipment for parcel that can be delivered on Saturdays

- Group 3b : Priority shipment with tracking, for all kind of bubble mailer of
group 2
- Group 4 : Priority shipment with tracking and insurance, for all kind of bubble
mailer of groupe 2

I've setup all this various methods to have constraints on the packaging.
The Swiss Post allow so much options and I tried to apply those options to reduce
the shipping cost.

With options, the buyer would, firstly, choose between Economic and Priority.
And then, if it choose Priority, he will chose the options, like it is able to
do with the tracking and/or insurance.

That sounds very complicated. Not saying you should do the same, but here's
some food for thought: I don't offer any options. I have put all of my 10-or-so
shipping methods into the same group.
Maybe by introducing some of that philosophy into your system you can straighten
things out a bit. Sometimes good service means not "annoying" a buyer with optionss
- they are not as familiar with postal services as you are, so you're in
a fair position to make some of the decisions on their behalf. It's often
not rocket science what buyers want, they usually just want their order in a
decent timeframe at a good price. I would at most offer one rudimentary choice
between very fast expensive shipping and slow cheap shipping if this really is
a meaningful preference that buyers can have.

You are almost right. I aim to charge the less shipping fees than possible. For
example, if I don't propose the "Oversize" method (more than 2cm height but
less than 5cm), shipping Hulk (see below) will cost is almost 260% higher (CHF
7.00 for a parcel and CHF 2.65 for an oversized).

Minifig No: sh611 Name: Hulk - Giant, White Jumpsuit
*
sh611 (Inv) Hulk - Giant, White Jumpsuit
Minifigures: Super Heroes: Avengers Endgame

By having this "complicated" set of methods, I can charge the lowest shipping
cost to my customers. But it's quite annoying to me to define all these methods,
and I'm not away from mistakes.

By enabling shipping options, I can clearly reduce the amount of methods and
let the buyer choose some options, like being delivered on Saturday.

It's a great idea. Not all of us can use IC for all orders. So with this
option, we can offer the buyer multiple shipping options.

Currently it is possible to add comments only to the whole order after it has
been made but something in higher resolution can be helpful.

Personally, I add pieces to an open order and keep it there for a while until
placing the actual order. Later, when I'm about to finalize the order, I don't
always remember what I needed each lot for...

This would truly be a good idea. I have been using My remarks to keep track of
items on my wanted list, so I do not forget why they are needed. Many times,
I have wanted to know why I had an item in a cart and then have to go into my
wanted list to remind myself why. It is very tedious.

A feature that would save me a lot of key strokes, and cause me to actual compare
my wanted list to more of the sale postings, would be a one stroke way to get
from the sale posting to a comparison to my wanted list.

I really dislike the way the featured page, for each store, interrupts my page
navigation. If I am looking for a specific part. I have to go through the featured
page each time I use the back arrow to get back to the page that shows the search
results.

Hi Donna

I have always thought this was a crazy layout. when you try and print pages it
is so wasteful of paper and ink. When you try to zoom in on printer page you
loose half of the columns.

It needs a serious look at!

+1

I Voted YES.

I experienced the exact scenario today with an order received.

I am also very happy that all the extra stoopid descriptive text from part #
4073 was removed as that caused this error regularly and constantly.

Although the options on the Orders Received page are unlimited automatic widening
based on the options picked, the Order Details Page and the Inventory Summary
page are fixed. Please see the attached photos.

On the Order Details page, the text of the item description wraps to create many
lines and causes printing of the page to run up the number of pages needed to
print. I have tried several settings in my browser to get the frame to widen,
but have been unsuccessful when it comes to the lengthy descriptions like those
shown in my photo.

Related to this: When the "Refund" change was made to this page and caused many
users to have a problem printing this page, I too had problems. When it was
"fixed", it didn't get fixed for me. I reached out to others for a solution,
but I couldn't find something that helped.

On the Inventory Details page, the text also wraps causing Category names to
become difficult to read and lengthening the page.

I am using the Chrome browser on a Win 10 laptop with 16:9 aspect ratio.

This is driving me nuts.

Please consider making these small changes.

To other users: Please comment and support if you are also having the same problem.

Thank You
Donna

The matrix to convert any USPS origination/destination Zip-code pair to a zone
number is 2 MB in size. That's it, for the entire country, plus a very small
exceptions file. This should be easy to implement, and requires no API calls
to make it work.

In any case and staying with your line of thinking, the OP's subject is "bricklink

not FTC?

An earnest question, not challenging your input, Donna.

But yeah, good point. What I tried to publicly sidestep with "larger motivations"

If TLG can’t make them work in all of their own shops, how can they make them
work on BL?

I don't know why TLG don't make them work in all of their own
shops, but I don't necessarily conclude that they can't.

Indeed, I said “TLG can’t” and I might as well have said “TLG doesn’t want to,” but,
as you say, what I should have said and what is important here is that “TLG doesn’t.”

But that doesn’t change the fact that I don’t see how or why TLG would extend
to thousands of tiny BL sellers what it doesn’t do for its own few dozen big
shops.

   There
are quite a number of potential reasons, all of which could be wrong! If I had
to guess I would suspect it's most likely to be either internal accounting
or cross-border taxation, the latter being a somewhat solved problem for Bricklink
as a marketplace.

That only could explain why LEGO’s gift cards can only be used in the country
where they were bought (except for US+CA where they can be used in both US and
CA).
That does not explain why there’s no gift cards programs in France, Italy, Japan….

I also don’t see how this cross-border thing is “somewhat solved” for BL.  What
is “solved” for BL is the taxing buyers for buying (sales tax) or importing (UK
& EU VAT) goods.  That has nothing to do with international financiary
transactions and services (which is what international gift cards would be).

If there’s something there (with international financiary transactions and services),
then:
1. that could indeed be what is limiting TLG from offering international gift
cards,
2. but that still does not explain the EU thing because money and people are
supposed to flow freely inside EU’s borders,
3. more importantly, that would also apply to BL, or, more exactly, to BL sellers.

Whatever the reason, LEGO gift cards are only available in a few countries and
can only be used in one country.  That would be the same if they were redeemable
on BL: they would only work in BL stores in the country where they were bought.
Or they could even be only redeemable in US+CA as BL is in California.

In any event, that was a throwaway hypothetical aside to my overall comment.

Sure.  I answered your message because it was the latest to mention using LEGO
gift cards on BL.  An idea / wish that I thought would be worth digging into
a bit in this thread, especially as it also had been made a few times already
on this forum and that’s often answered with a terse “BL is many sellers.”

what i would like to give them is a bricklink gift card that would be valid over

it could work just like amazon giftcards being assigned to an email and login

i would like to give the gift that keeps on building

I think there are plenty of prepaid credit/ debit gift card options all ready
out there.

Which is absolutely a true statement, and a +1. The real subject here, without
trying to drag this off-topic, is how to reward buyers for shopping on BL, and
to encourage them to spend more on BL. It is referred to in the industry as building
a moat, to keep your competitors away
. TLG is using VIP points to make that
work. Not everyone who bought a Titanic or AT-AT paid full price. Some of them
cashed in VIP points.

Would that work here ? I don't know, but it's food for thought.

I don't know why TLG don't make them work in all of their own
shops, but I don't necessarily conclude that they can't. There
are quite a number of potential reasons, all of which could be wrong! If I had
to guess I would suspect it's most likely to be either internal accounting
or cross-border taxation, the latter being a somewhat solved problem for Bricklink
as a marketplace.

In any event, that was a throwaway hypothetical aside to my overall comment.

I think some are missing the point here. Gift Cards are foremost a marketing
tool. A method to increase exposure (advertise) while increasing locked in revenue
flow to a marketplace and by extension, it's vendors. Among other larger
motivations. It’s primary purpose is not convenience of payment to the consumer.

Exactly! There's a lot about this that could be useful to Bricklink and sellers,
while having a side effect of convenience for some consumers. It's easy to
see how it might generate a small but worthwhile increase in buyer traffic here.

As dcarmine has just pointed out a significant proportion of gift cards are never
redeemed, making card schemes profitable for the operators. Potentially this
could fund the costs of the scheme itself, allowing BL to offer fee-free payments
(BL transaction fees would presumably still apply) - this alone could provide
enough incentive for a lot of sellers to accept payment through them.

We regularly see posts (perhaps more on Reddit?) from potential customers who
don't have PayPal accounts and want to use other payment methods, which works
for some sellers but not others. A Bricklink/TLG-backed "gift card" payment scheme
could circumvent a lot of these issues without the trust problems of bank transfers
or Stripe's current fraud trend.

Of course there's also a lot to consider around eg refunds, the lack of PayPal
buyer/seller protection) and probably a hundred other things. It's by no
means an obvious trouble-free win.

Who knows though, in a more integrated future, TLG could always potentially extend
Lego gift cards to be valid payment for Bricklink sales...

+1
All good thinking.

A partnership of LEGO/BrickLink and Paypal could make this work. If Lego/BrickLink
was the merchant who accepted the funds on behalf of Paypal and the funds resided
with Paypal, then Paypal could simply issue the money to the appropriate seller
at the time of purchase. Thus, it would be a Paypal transaction eligible for
Paypal's Seller Protection.

It would likely have to be restricted to those sellers who use Instant Checkout,
but perhaps not (I would hope NOT as a non-IC seller).

Imagine the increased exposure of BrickLink to the whole Lego buying public if
a BrickLink branded Gift Card were available at all Lego brand retail stores
and maybe even the Legoland Parks. And online at Lego Shop At Home. And someday,
available everywhere that gift cards are sold. This could be a huge increase
in BL sales and revenue, both for Lego/BrickLink and individual BL shops.

Good post. I like the way you think.
