Hey!

Anyone know where the image went for this part?

[p=3069bpb0208]

It was there last week when I sold one and now... poof!

There's an entry to the Change Log on July 1st.

I love when brand new people come through... look at stuff for 5 minutes, and
then decide they know everything they need to know.

Really, the site is built on ASP, a really old language? No way! I bet none of
the owners, developers, contributors, volunteers, and members had any idea. Now
we can fix it!

{Insert sarcasm emoji here}

Sorry, just had to rant. Of course, we all want to see better design, bug fixes,
and updates where appropriate. But, if you take away my ancient-looking really
awesome Forum, we are going to have some words.

  Hey guys,

This has been bugging me for a while. Every time I look at the Bricklink Community,
I keep thinking "woah, all those posts in such a cluttered UX... not sure where
I'd start" and then decide not to post. I mean, it took me a little while
to actually get to the forum index, organised in a way I've seen with other
boards. But then I hit a topic (like this one, [Suggestions]) and get thrown
back to the unorganized, plain text hierarchy. Is there no way for us to implement
the same software that runs the Stud.io forums? Why even two separate forums
running separate software? I mean, I think it has to do with Bricklink and Stud.io
being two separate legal entities, but still, it feels weird and counter intuitive.
It's the second decade of the 21st century, why the outdated look and feel?

Because there is more to this Forum than just looks. There are built-in tools
and features here which are essential to catalog work. Aside from being able
to ping someone (which is a feature that needs a great deal of moderation), I
don't think it is lacking for those that know how to use it.

  Hi there

I started updating the inventory for a set, and have reserved it. Now a day later,
I have no idea in how to get back to the screen where I can update the inventory
of the set I've reserved

Any help appreciated

Cormac

Add or Change tab, Add Inventory: -Set

It’s the same page you reserved it from, second column.

FYI: Put in your set number and a lot quantity of 1. The next page will tell
you if the data is available for your set.

Good luck!

The way to tell them apart is:
That the old version is cut with the fiber in + position and the c version in

I am sorry, but I do not believe this correct. There are both 40mm and 39mm versions
that are cut on the bias (fiber in the x position), so it is not possible to
tell the difference from a minifig image or video.

Just to add more confusion: there is one more variant unpictured. A 522 which

I wonder if these are actually variants - it could be that to waste as little
fabric as possible, some capes are cut on the bias. If the shape approximates
a triangle with angles 45°, 67.5°, 67.5°, then 8 capes could be cut from a circle
of fabric, and four of these would be cut on the bias

That's an interesting speculation! It's too bad we don't know anyone
at the LEGO group who could add some insight to our conversation.

It’s fair to presume that all capes produced within the last few years are the
slightly shorther, thinner texture ones. However, as the difference is so subtle
(& not obvious to most people), I believe that 522c should be merged into 522
& removed from the catalog entirely to avoid any further confusion.

That's very valid and should be considered. When I added the variant to the
catalog, there was no other good way to document that the part had been slightly
changed. Also, some collectors were VERY much for the new version being split
from the old.

I am fine with either solution as long as the recent 522 listings are all reconfirmed
and correct.

Thanks for being part of the discussion!

Yep, all catalog discussions (exept Packing Dimensions and Catalog Identification)
are now "suggestions" and won't be purged anymore. Russell made the changes
last week. So hopefully we won't loose important catalog discussions anymore.

That's great! Thanks for sharing this info.

Regarding these changes:

Are you going to leave these changes in place while you investigate the capes?
Many sellers have these minifigs for sale and could now be accused of having
the wrong part. I believe it would be best to confirm right away that this change
was initiated by someone who had the parts in hand and can confirm the differences.

Also, it's entirely possible that if the older 4mm capes ARE back in service,
that they are alternate parts. There are many aspects of this change request
that concern me!!

The black cape is included in four Star Wars minifigs from 2020:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=522&in=A&itemYear=2020&colorID=11&ov=Y

I find it hard to believe that two of them came with 522 and the other two had
522c. (As said, 522 and 522c have the same PCC). So it is possible two of them
have been wrong since the beginning anyway and now, they are either all wrong
or all correct. I asked the submitter of the requests to help us with this.

Let me know if there is anything I can help with...

This is starting to sound to me like a great excuse to finally get a copy of
that gorgeous Cantina set.

(having owned all Star Wars minifigs which are taken from new sets) to compare
the capes that came within the Cantina set for the Labria (sw1126) & Garindan
(sw1127) minifigs.
Having compared their capes to many other recent SW minifigs I found no difference
in either size or texture between them & came to the conclusion that whoever
initially inventoried the two Cantina minifigs must of mistakenly assigned cape
522c.

Thanks for clarifying your request! You have confirmed that the recent capes
are the same, which is good, now we just need to know which type they all are.

I think it's pretty clear now that the capes need to be confirmed by measuring
and comparing with a known 522. And by that, I mean one that came out before
2016.

There has definitely been confusion caused by the term 'shiny' here.
I can easily see how a few capes could have been mistakenly listed.

Here are a couple quick images. It's not a perfect comparison as the older
one is a bit creased. I will need to dig a bit deeper in my collection to find
a 522 that is fresh from its sleeve.

The top Red 522c cape is from:

Minifig No: dim019 Name: Superman - Red Eyes on Reverse, Shiny Starched Cape
*
dim019 (Inv) Superman - Red Eyes on Reverse, Shiny Starched Cape
Minifigures: Dimensions: Super Heroes: Superman

It has a light sheen, feels thinner and less starched, is 39mm long, and the
part is cut with the weave on the bias. (diagonal)

The bottom Red 522 cape is an older variant. It has no sheen, feels quite starched,
is 40mm long, and the part is cut perpendicular to the weave.

Just to add more confusion: there is one more variant unpictured. A 522 which
has a light sheen, feels quite starched, is 40mm long, and is also cut on the
bias.

I will keep digging for fresh parts to create better comparison images.

My point is that it's best to tell the difference by measuring a flattened
cape and not from a video. The newer cape also weighs .01g less.

We should probably take a moment to fix the Shiny and Traditional terms on these
as they are very subjective. (I can practically hear Stormchaser right now insisting
on the better, more accurate terms.)

Hope this helps!

LEGO really switch back to the original after the variant was added so long ago?
I haven't been actively working on new sets so I don't know for myself.

Fair point, unfortunately I don't own any of these "shiny" capes myself.
But yes, it seems the original capes are back or maybe they were never really
phased out.
As you can see, Marek inventoried several new figures with 522 in 2019 and 2021:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=sw1029
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=sw1063
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=sw1112

So I checked some pics of those figures at Brickset and I would say they all
show the same cape variant, so I assumed it is 522.
https://brickset.com/article/54044
https://brickset.com/article/45922
https://brickset.com/article/43362
https://brickset.com/article/53635

But maybe that's not correct and we have an even bigger mess with them?

Btw, LEGO has the same number for all black capes (with starched fabric) since
1999:
https://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-4124171
(Including the cape from

Set No: 71221 Name: Fun Pack - The Wizard of Oz (Wicked Witch and Winged Monkey)
*
71221-1 (Inv) Fun Pack - The Wizard of Oz (Wicked Witch and Winged Monkey)
33 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2015
Sets: Dimensions: Dimensions Wave 1: The Wizard of Oz
)

So it is really a tricky thing with these capes.

Keep in mind that the 'shiny' in the name of 522c only indicates that
there is a light sheen to the fabric by comparison to 522. It is not reflective
or actually shiny.

Thanks for point that out - I think I need to add a "shiny" cape to my collection
to see the difference myself.
Would you mind submitting a comparison image for 522 vs 522c (assuming the difference
is visible in a photo)?

Yes, I will create some images. I recall the differences were well documented
here on the Forum when the variant was reported with Loki:

Minifig No: sh033 Name: Loki - 4.0cm Height Starched Fabric Cape
*
sh033 (Inv) Loki - 4.0cm Height Starched Fabric Cape
Minifigures: Super Heroes: The Avengers

Minifig No: sh033a Name: Loki - 3.9cm Height Starched Fabric Cape
*
sh033a (Inv) Loki - 3.9cm Height Starched Fabric Cape
Minifigures: Super Heroes: Iron Man

But that conversation is long gone. The differences are slight, but the new variant
was added to stave off future problems with people claiming the newer one was
a fake.

My suspicion is that all capes since 2016 are likely 522c and that the word 'shiny'
in the description caused people to choose the older variant. I was actively
confirming the part while I was inventory admin, but a few seem to have slipped
through since then. Like I said, I could be wrong about this as I haven't
opened a lot of new sets lately.

The conversation about this fig's cape centered on the color but there are
no comments on the simultaneous change in part number:

Minifig No: coltlbm27 Name: Clock King, The LEGO Batman Movie, Series 2 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)
*
coltlbm27 (Inv) Clock King, The LEGO Batman Movie, Series 2 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)
Minifigures: Collectible Minifigures: Super Heroes: The LEGO Batman Movie: The LEGO Batman Movie Series 2

This part pretty much needs to be measured with a decent ruler to confirm which
variant it is. You could merge 522 and 522c and just add it to the list of unsplit
variants, but I think collectors will not like that very much.

I'll get to work on the images...

Thanks!

* Add 1 Part 522 Black Minifigure Cape Cloth, Standard - Traditional Starched Fabric - Height 4 cm (22231)

Interesting, just yesterday I was wondering if 522c is really the correct variant
here. We cannot ask the original submitter anymore, but based on several review
photos of the set I agree that the capes look more like 522.

Oh my god I could hardly believe this was real, had to check it with my own
eyes. So that's how Bricklink fixed it huh, casually telling its users to
click 500 individual boxes (on a page that you don't check when you do a
part-out) Haha that's really beyond ridiculous. This is a known problem
for at least years 3 years now... and in all this time, this is what they came
up with Dan made the entire part-out system from scratch in less than that
time, 20 years later there's a whole team of people telling you to check
500 boxes because nobody can figure out a fix

I believe fixing this would require them to touch the old 'spaghetti code'
section of the site. I would rather check 500 boxes than risk them breaking the
entire part out system. For some reason, I don't trust them to do it right...

To my knowledge, the workaround came from members figuring out a solution, sharing
it with the Forum, and catalog and inventory admin posting the information on
the affected sets.

Has this even been acknowledged by the BL office? It certainly is not listed
here:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2453&q=roadmap

You can't fix a problem you don't know or care about.

BL customer service only operates during normal business hours. They supposedly
work on tickets in the order they are received. They have been known to fall
many days or even weeks behind.
Are you getting automated email responses with ticket numbers? There is a bug
in the Help desk system that any request which does not generate a ticket number
is never received by the office.

Sorry that this has happened to you. I can only imagine how frustrating it is.

Hello,

I was hoping someone who has this part in hand can confirm the number molded

[p=68942pb01]

I rather suspect that this part number is just the design ID and that it's
really a decorated version of this:

Attached is a screen grab from a youtube unboxing video.

Thanks!

Hello,

I am working on set 21327 and found a new mold number 60591 for part 41530. It
has a new PCC as well: 6289758

The molds appear nearly identical except for the spoke pattern on the center
axle hole. The variations are exactly the same as the what has been previous
found on part 4265c.

Unfortunately, the weight is also different. 41530 weighs 2.40g on my scale and
the newer version weighs only 2.05g.

Please add 60591 as an alternate number unless you would prefer a new catalog
entry.

Good luck,
Jen

Ah okay thanks, I think I've got it. I entered £1.99 on the Order page and
then Submit Changes. It changed the Invoice to have £1.99 shipping. I assume
it will inform the buyer of this and they now pay the invoice?

No, you still have to send the invoice. It really is manual.
I added links to some Help sections that might be useful in my previous message.

Suuurrrreee I'll send you $200 of free stuff

Hello!!
My name is (Scammer) but I go by JBBrickFanatic online. I’m from Indiana and
I run
a YouTube channel of 6000+ subscribers. I have this crazy idea for a video/video
series that you could help me with!
I want to own the worlds biggest collection of part no. 15392 “Dark Bluish Gray
Projectile Launcher Part, Trigger for Gun, Mini Blaster / Shooter.”
It’s such an odd part with no real connection abilities outside of the stud shooter.
I am not sure how often they sell, but I am sure it’s taking up space in your
shop.
Even though it is such a small and cheap part, buying a ton does get expensive
and it would be amazing if we can make some sort of deal to help me get these
for free or maybe much cheaper (ex. I pay shipping). I could point folks to your
store, or do something in return for your help. Let’s make a deal!
Thank you so much, and let me know what you think!
Sincerely, JB

It's funny that they have chosen one of the smallest LEGO parts for an example
of something that is "taking up space"

Yes, I have a hundred of these in a 2x3 inch baggie. Wherever will I find room
to store all these?!

Doesn't someone want to buy all my unwanted Wedges and Windscreens instead?
lol

Can someone help me search for an assorted collection of used regular bricks
- assorted colors? My collection has more special parts than brick parts and
I just need to get some more of the standard building pieces. Advice appreciated!
Thanks,
DazeeDoze

You should create a Wanted List with a variety of bricks and colors you like
and search for stores with items that way. Very few sellers here sell unsorted
lots. Start at the heart shape Want at the top of the page, or go to the Catalog
page for each brick you are looking for and click Add to Wanted List.

Good luck,
Jen
