When we first decided to open a store here on BL we thought alot about what name
to use. We wanted a name to reflect that we were a two guys in business because
we also have a cabinet making business together where our name in an obscure
way signifies that we are a 2 guy business - our woodworking business is called
R&R WoodWorks where the 2 R's stand for Ringgold and Russell, our last names
shop so we kind of decided on TheBrickGuys and I say 'kind of' because
we figured that if we came up with a better name latter then we would just change
it but we never really gave it much thought afterwards. I guess thinking about
it now we could have chosen R&R Brick Works for our BrinkLink name, kind of has
a nice ring to it.
Our store picture is my dog Skragle. When I first got him from the dog pound
I wanted to give him a Lego related name. I gave it a lot of thought and came
up with Skragle. His name comes from something Lego related but it would be interesting
to see if anyone can figure out in what way his name is related to Lego. I will
give a hint, it is in the first Lego movie. Part of the reason I gave him the
name Skragle is because he is a very scraggly haired dog. I can brush him and
2 minutes later he looks like he has never even seen a brush so that plays a
part in his name but there is still a Lego related reason.

I've shown your pics of Skragle to my son and daughter some time ago when

I am glad you and your kids like him. He has been an incredible dog. I appreciate
your offer to take him but I think I will keep him for now.
His name comes from the glue kragle on the 1st. Lego movie, I just added an S
to it.

ConstrucToys is an amalgam of Construction Toys, that came to me while trying
to create a store name elsewhere some years ago. I still have no idea if it's
original or not, knowing how my mind works, or doesn't
As to how long? Well popsicle I've used here on BL for 9+ years, unsure.
ConstrucToys, not as long. Beyond that, I have trouble with timeline awareness
of events in my life going back to my younger days. Let's just say I've
got some wiring issues from damage I took as a young man overseas.

I intentionally chose a store name that doesn't have the word "brick" in
it in order to distinguish myself. I went through a few different store names
before I settled on "Wild Chicken", but it seems like a good fit to me because
it matches my BrickLink username. As to where that came from, I don't really
know, it just kind of popped into my head one day.

Back in 2003 when I wrote the original BrickStore there were no standards on
where to put cache files on all the supported platforms. So I choose a suitable
location, but let the user change it.
Nowadays each platforms defines exactly what has to go where and for cache data
this is:
macOS: ~/Library/Caches/Brickstore
Windows: C:/Users//AppData/Local/Brickstore/cache
Linux: ~/.cache/Brickstore

Love cats. Love portmanteaus. It occurred to me spontaneously while trying to
think of a name on the spot, and I loved it, especially the three different primary
pronunciations -- BRICK-it-y, bri-KITT-y, and BRICK KITTY. (I love all three
but generally lean towards the first, like the word "rickety".) Checked it out
and no one had taken it. My partner designed the logo in Photoshop, but awhile
ago a generous and talented user on BL built the cat with real bricks, took a
picture for me, and gave me free use of it, so that logo will be going up in
the next few weeks.
Also, "kitty" is my principle pet name with my partner, going both ways. So there's
some special significance there. It's one of the most positive words in our
lives.

Fantastic read. Thanks!
