Also a thank you for the pointers! I've got a couple of pieces from a Disney

), there are several minecraft animals, such as minedolphin01, mineguardian01,
mineguardian02, mineturtle1, but they have different characteristics from parts,
that is, they are some kind of minifigures not parts.

Almost all the part are inseparable, but the minecraft water animals are built
from several bricks. The item description says they are appeared in some sets
(for example, the mineturtle1 is appeared in 21152-1), but they are not in the
sets, only the parts of the animal appears. I think that is not good for inventory
management.

In case of minecraft iron golem (min082, min093), they are minifigures, not parts.
I think the two groups is very similar in nature. So all of the minecraft water
animals should be moved from parts to minifigures. Then, the minecraft sets management
will be more consistent, I believe.

Thank you for reading.

Animals vs minifigures is a real mess for what gets included. Not just in Minecraft
but across all themes.

It happens in other animals sections too, air for example ...

Part No: smaug01 Name: Dragon, The Hobbit (Smaug)
*
smaug01 (Inv) Dragon, The Hobbit (Smaug)
Parts: Animal, Air

As the animals section exists, they put animals in there. So Scooby Doo, Smaug,
Santa's Little Helper, Snowball II (all named characters) plus other more
generic ones such as the Minecraft animals, the snail from the LEGO Movie, and
so on. Whether they are single pieces or large assemblies those animals go into
the relevant animals location. Yet Unikitty and the other animals from that series,
they go into Minifigures. I can understand un-named animals going into an animals
section, but not for named animal characters.

There is even a tea cup that also goes into minifigures, even though there is
a category for minifigure utensils where it should go with the other tea-cups
with or without faces (like there is an animals category for animals).

[m=dp115]
[p=38014pb01]

And that is without even starting with the trains, cars, steamrollers, and all
those other vehicles that are minifigures even though there are dedicated sections
for trains and vehicles.

It is not clear why (named) licensed animals are treated in such a different
way to licensed vehicles and tea cups and wardrobes.

Dear Bricklink Admins,

is there any news when this set will be approved? Can I help completing it?

I am trying to import this set to studio and fail importing it. I assume it is
due to the fact that the part list has not been approved yet?

Thanks

How is Yoda depicted in the book? With or without backpack? If with, then it

Then it is correct he has a backpack on in the book. Let it be known that yoda

Minifig No: min093 Name: Iron Golem - Tow Ball Arm Attachments
*
min093 (Inv) Iron Golem - Tow Ball Arm Attachments
Minifigures: Minecraft
could be in

Set No: 21128 Name: The Village
*
21128-1 (Inv) The Village
1528 Parts, 9 Minifigures, 2016
Sets: Minecraft
but it looks like it's currently inventoried as just bricks, instead of a
complete minifig.

But in

Set No: 21123 Name: The Iron Golem
*
21123-1 (Inv) The Iron Golem
166 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 2016
Sets: Minecraft
that one IS a minifig.

Now how to fix:
Go here: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogAdd.asp
select "change inventory" - "Set"
And fill the form to remove the items that are parts of the figure, and add the
figure.

This is where I immediately get stuck. When adding, the submission form requires
the item number. But if this is a new sticker’d item, it doesn’t yet have a number.
The part that the sticker is on already exists in the catalog.

The sticker items seem like they need additional work involved, so I was hoping
to gain insight specific to them
.

Just curious why are the packing dimensions for minifigures is defined based
on them being assembled. Is that the recommended way to ship? I think sending
the pieces is much more common. Will it be the same for special assemblies?

It is probable that they came with either one of them as it was in the crossover

without the 4x4 base. And the photos on the box show the older turntable,

To me it almost looks like a Dark Gray. Is there a reason for that? because most

That is what the standard LBG render from LEGO looks like. Almost all of the
other ones have been updated by myself over the years to look more like the actual
color. I guess I never came across this one in a set that I had to update it.
I will add it to my list of parts to get to.

Thank you for this, btw! You create the best and most consistant color renders.

BrickLink inventories contain what actually came in the set and not what appears
in the instruction manuals. Since instruction manuals are created ahead of production
time for sets, newer molds or parts are usually included in the actual sets that
were not accounted for in the instructions.

Having said that, I am not sure what actually came in this set. But the person

That is what the standard LBG render from LEGO looks like. Almost all of the
other ones have been updated by myself over the years to look more like the actual
color. I guess I never came across this one in a set that I had to update it.
I will add it to my list of parts to get to.

It looks like the rendered image for the DBG plate has been used for the LBG

Hi everyone.
I am a new member and whilst searching for items I have come across a few items
that need editing or more details added to them.
How can I edit or supply more details??
An example is item min093, says it is found in set 21132 which is incorrect.
It appears in sets 21123 and 21128

today - Packing Dimensions!

Just updated Minifigures and Books. Catalogs and Gear are next.

The General Help Page for Dimensions is now finished. We will likely improve
some of the images over the next few weeks.

There is a also new page for advanced users that is now under construction. This
will explain the nuts and bolts behind the IC system and discuss a bit where
we are headed with dimensions in the next two phases.

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2512

The issue I am seeing the most with dimensions submissions is that folks are
submitting Stud Dimensions for parts instead of Packing Dimensions. The little
? link will be working soon for the Packing Dimensions and that will probably
help, but in general we want people to focus on the Packing Dimensions.

Please also be sure you set the Packing Type to Volume Bound for larger parts.

That was exactly what I've been wondering for a while. The logic of not wanting
"too much" at one time escapes me. The more often things change, the messier
it is. I may open my main store back up once all of this is over (late 2022 or
so) in the meantime it's just too much chaos for me and not really worth
the hassle.

Maybe it goes back to the basic communication, either the seller or the buyer

Politely ask the seller if they perhaps made a mistake or maybe meant to assign
that shipping cost to another order because shipping one keychain at the most
(counter prices) is $4.00 in the same state.
If that fails then ask to cancel and assure the seller that you have no intention
of leaving a bad feedback. (That might raise your chance the the seller would
comply)

Comments concerning the April 1 category change list

The idea of a larger-scale change conducted twice per year is working well and
is superior to occasional changes that are harder to draw everyone’s attention
to. So, the good news is that for the foreseeable future, we will shift categories
mainly at those times, with the current organizational structure. We still may
adjust categories at any time, though, as we will need to do soon for tax reasons
– think magazines and children’s clothes.

The bad news, at least for the moment, is that many of the proposed changes were
not approved by admin. Here are the main reasons for this:

1) This was a very large list of parts, about 70% larger than the one we worked
with in October. The larger the list, the larger the potential disruption.

2) The parts in the original April 1 list are much more common than those in
the previous list. There are some obscure and some common parts in both lists,
but as a whole, moving parts in the original April 1 list would have had an exponentially
larger impact. Even if we were ok with all of the changes, we would not want
to move this many at one time.

3) No new categories or category retitling was approved other than a couple cases
where we moved in the opposite direction. In most of the proposed cases, the
category names were longer. Generally speaking, category names are better when
they are shorter and listed on their own instead of listed alongside “Brick,…”
and “Plate,…” categories.

4) We should look at splitting the liftarms into basic and modified in the future.
The reason for not doing it now is because the split is not well enough defined.
There are several points at which a liftarm could become "modified". Even the
basic ones with bent ends could be considered modified to a degree, and that
would leave us with about 10 thick ones. But then there are thin ones too.

There is also the complication of a few decorated parts that would strictly need
their own "Technic, Liftarm, Modified, Decorated" category.

5) There were unfortunately two items on the list that we planned to change but
we couldn’t, due to problems with the admin tools. These two items are currently
listed as changes for Oct 1, 2021. We hope to have the tools repaired soon.

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2509

For the rest of the changes, I will address them subject by subject. Today we’ll
talk about corner parts:

**********************************************************

Part 1: Corner bricks, corner plates, and corner tiles

The 4 x 4 Corner Brick, the 2 x 2 Corner Brick, 2 x 2 Corner Plate, and the 4
x 4 Corner Plate were part of the original BrickLink catalog before March 25,
2001 when entry dates started to be recorded.

Part No: 702 Name: Brick 4 x 4 Corner
*
702 Brick 4 x 4 Corner
Parts: Brick

Part No: 2357 Name: Brick 2 x 2 Corner
*
2357 Brick 2 x 2 Corner
Parts: Brick

Part No: 2420 Name: Plate 2 x 2 Corner
*
2420 Plate 2 x 2 Corner
Parts: Plate

Part No: 2639 Name: Plate 4 x 4 Corner
*
2639 Plate 4 x 4 Corner
Parts: Plate

And there is no record of them having changed category after May 7, 2002 when
the old catalog change log was activated:

https://www.bricklink.com/js/cataloglog.txt

The Corner Tile and Cross Plate were added in late 2013, and the 2 x 3 Plate
with Cutout was added about 3 months ago. The 2 x 2 Corner Tile was placed in
a basic category out of consideration for the other corner elements.

Part No: 14719 Name: Tile 2 x 2 Corner
*
14719 Tile 2 x 2 Corner
Parts: Tile

Part No: 15397 Name: Plate, Modified 3 x 3 Cross
*
15397 Plate, Modified 3 x 3 Cross
Parts: Plate, Modified

Part No: 73831 Name: Plate, Modified 2 x 3 with 1 x 1 Cutout
*
73831 Plate, Modified 2 x 3 with 1 x 1 Cutout
Parts: Plate, Modified

So what we have done in this category is to revert back to the way things were
at the very earliest time on BrickLink. And looking even further back, the 4
x 4 Corner Brick was part of the very earliest LEGO building sets that were ever
produced, the Classic Bricks (the ones with slots):
[p=bslot16]

Part No: bslot17 Name: Brick 4 x 4 Corner without Bottom Tubes, Slotted (with 2 slots)
*
bslot17 Brick 4 x 4 Corner without Bottom Tubes, Slotted (with 2 slots)
Parts: Classic

It is these facts that make the “corner” parts an exception when we are categorizing
shapes. It’s the nature of what LEGO bricks have always been to include the corners
with the other more strictly rectangular shapes.

That doesn’t mean, of course, that we will never move these parts. Just that
when we are being careful and moving things in logical stages, we need to recognize
that the inclusion of the “corner” elements is a completely different matter
than that of the 3 x 3 Cross Plate or the 2 x 3 Plate with Cutout, or other
parts like the 4 x 4 Plate with Center Cutout that could have been included with
the “basic” list had we gone another direction.

Part No: 64799 Name: Plate, Modified 4 x 4 with 2 x 2 Open Center
*
64799 Plate, Modified 4 x 4 with 2 x 2 Open Center
Parts: Plate, Modified

Submitted one version under not applicable but can't offer a different colour
under the same not applicable option.

Both images are marbled but quite different main colours.

One is marbled Green, I have a second version of this as each plate is different.

Another is on a block , Dark Orange/Medium brown and marbled.

The only thing that would incentivize IC to me is for it to be designed to actually
function with the USPS system.

Stet (IOW, full agreement, no argument)

Does everyone just charge for the highest zone
or aim for somewhere in the middle?

I keep a spreadsheet with all my sales on it. I note which zone, the weight,
and the class of service. That is tabulated into something that gives me a more
clear picture of what zone are ordering which weights. From that, I can distribute
the USPS zone costs into a rate for each weight band. Some buyers are going to
be charged more, some less, but at the end of the year I should be pretty close
the correct average. Zone 8 is getting a slight advantage, and zones 3-6 are
paying a bit more. While it would be nice for BL to get the zones to be fully
functional, I know that some buyers (i.e. everyone in zone 8) is going wince
when they see the rate they need to pay (for break even). Typically tho, if any
buyer is presented with a rate, and they know there are no more hidden or handling
charges, they buy in and go with it.

Thanks for sharing this info. I do see that there is a small trade-off between
exact cost and convenience at check out.

In the past 6 months, I've only had one buyer wanting free shipping … and
they were buying for resale on Amazon. So they were trying to make their cost
of acquisition lower, and at my expense. I politely declined.

I guess what I am saying is I just don't trust
it to work, and I am basically prohibited from testing it in my own shop. The
interface is confusing, the packing dimensions are incomplete...I guess many
sellers are adapting to it despite all this?

What some sellers are doing, is opening a second account for testing. As long
as you do not create any real orders (i.e. with an order number assigned) it's
not hurting anything.

Yeah, I wouldn't be comfortable doing this. My rep and feedback here mean

Interesting, my son tried to create an account to help me test and to have his
own account (he's 32) and his account had the buyer privilege revoked. He
went back and forth with customer support and was told it was a duplicate of
my account! This was far from true, he is living here with us due to the pandemic,
there was nothing nefarious going on. So, how does he get his account reinstated?
He does not have ID with my address on it as DMV in our state is CLOSED.

Let me know if you need his account info. He has basically given up on Bricklink
for now.

Thought I'd ask if there is any point trying to add images of these to the

The only thing that would incentivize IC to me is for it to be designed to actually
function with the USPS system.

As long
as you do not create any real orders (i.e. with an order number assigned) it's
not hurting anything.

function with the USPS system. Does everyone just charge for the highest zone

difference for First Class mail at the moment. But, to me, it just feels like
another bug-prone mishmash system BL threw together, didn't finish properly,
and doesn't maintain. I guess what I am saying is I just don't trust
it to work, and I am basically prohibited from testing it in my own shop. The

So, obviously, this seller does not have IC enabled. IC would require the system
to calculate a shipping charge, based on seller's parameters, and tell you
about it at checkout. You could then make a decision.

In all honesty, and because of the evolution of BL, sellers which do not clearly
show their shipping costs, and are not on IC, should have a requirement that
they accept an order cancellation request with no repercussions to the buyer.
It would incentivize more sellers to enable IC.

It's another case of selling cheap & then a lot of add ons at checkout!!

Just ask the seller. If they don't give shipping fees up front then ask to
cancel.

items that match the images for 61408 clearly show "33299" inside a circle on
one face. The items that match the images for 33299 do not have a part number
visible anywhere. We checked approximately 50 of each.

Is it possible that someone submitted the images wrong?

Any part that is a 61408 will have 61408 molded on the side of it, as it is a
very new part.

Parts that are 33299 may or may not have the part number on them, and the shape
of the axle holes can vary.

There are several mold variations for 33299, some of them have the extra half
axle (which you can also see in the image for 61408). However Bricklink does
not distinguish between them.

61408 was created as a separate catalog entry because of the shape of the pin
hole - not because of the axle holes. The new smaller pin hole will not accept
a bar, which 33299 does.

So look at the pin hole - it is likely that all the parts you have are 33299

Let's just say that I wanted one, I ended up with two, and I had to bid on
a lot of twenty-five to get the two. The others all found homes with local individuals,
and I made a little money on the transaction. The really hard part was figuring
out what oil to put into the damping cylinder. Seems I used 30-weight, because
no one could tell me what I was supposed to use. All the old oil had been taken
out when they were removed from service.

I personally tested it quite a bit when Instant Checkout was released, and it
works very well. You will need to make sure you have accurate dimensions for
the parts in your store, and you will need to make small adjustments to the process
at first.

When I put items in my cart and then go to checkout to test it I get the message

"Unable to buy from yourself
BrickLink does not allow sellers to buy from themselves."

It doesn't show me any shipping options.
Were you able to override this or did you test it using two separate accounts?

I tested with with another account. Feel free to open another account if you
want to test for Instant Checkout.

Yes, it would be allowed. The system would lay the brick down on its side to
fit in the package.

One of the presumptions inherent in the current volume-based calculation method
is that items are rectangular. Bricks are, generally speaking, rectangular, but
many LEGO parts are not. For the non-rectangular parts, which are volume-based
but entered as an imaginary rectangular bounding box, this can result in an over-shoot
in calculating volume required. That over-shoot can/will propagate into selecting
the correct (or best-fit) packaging.

Obviously, purchasing a single quantity of a non-rectangular item will (very
likely) require rectangular packaging. In which case the system works as intended.
Where things drift away from optimal is when there are multiples of a non-rectangular
item and/or multiple lots. That is very easy to achieve with some of the large
figure parts (hockey, Hero Factory, etc).

inserting blue sky suggestion here

As a down the road way of solving this, is to both have a dimensional
entry for a single quantity, and a dimensional for a standard multiple (e.g.
10). That would allow the system to flesh out the clumping factor of a
given part, and assist in calculating the proper volume needed for a given quantity
of that part.

It may be necessary to have a standard cube volume, then answer the question
How many will fit inside that cube ? Same principle, but attacking it
from the other side of the equation.

This isn't the most ideal path, but it gets us closer to the desired result.

Thanks for the quick reply!

How do dimension limits work on instant checkout? I haven't been able to
find any documentation. There is no way for me to test it, so I simply didn't
use it.

You can test it by putting things in a cart and trying to go through checkout.
I personally tested it quite a bit when Instant Checkout was released, and it
works very well. You will need to make sure you have accurate dimensions for
the parts in your store, and you will need to make small adjustments to the process
at first.

There is a help page for "Store Shipping Methods" however it seems to be out
of date. I think it shows the shipping settings screens from before IC was implemented.

There is a help page under "Instant Checkout" "Advanced Options" that shows an
example of package restictions:

Orders can't be shipped with this method when order package exceeds any of
these conditions or when an item in the order has been flagged with manual packaging
type by the seller.
Max dimension
15 in (w) x 12 in (h) x 0.75 in (d)

It states that it is flagged if "order package" is too big. I don't know
what the size of the order package is, or how it is calculated. Does that mean
if any of the individual elements is too big?

Items that are Weight Bound are measured as a liquid. Larger items should be
Volume Bound and these are virtually stacked inside your order package as 3 dimensional
rectangles.

Are we supposed to enter the limits in inches? Even though the packaging dimensions
are in cm?

Yes. I believe for different postal systems, the measurement units are different.

Would a 1x1x5 Brick be allowed under this example?
It has dimensions 0.8 x 0.8 x 4.8 cm.
4.8 cm 0.75 in so it seems to be it would not be allowed, unless the system
is doing something behind the scenes to re-organize the dimensions and can see
that
4.8 cm
0.8 cm
0.8 cm

Yes, it would be allowed. The system would lay the brick down on its side to
fit in the package.

For parts is the z dimension the height? Because I looked at 1x1x5 brick and
the height is .8 cm. The actual height was entered as the y dimension.

Or is the z dimension the smallest? So that it can be used to determine whether
the item will fit in a thin envelope. In that case there are many entries that
need to be changed.

Before all the work of populating part dimensions i think we need to figure out
how it is going to be used.

Many of the currently entered Packing Dimensions were mass imported from LDraw
data when Instant Checkout was implemented in 2017. These measurements have no
user credit - that is how you can tell where they came from.

Things were done that way to get the system up and running quickly, but at this
point we need to refine the data. I am outlining the submission rules on the
Help page, but essentially what they say is this - for parts, use the stud dimensions
to determine the order of the fields. Where there are no stud dimensions, add
dimensions in whichever order you wish.

So please submit a correction to that data. It is very likely there is more wrong
than just the order of the fields.

Instant Checkout will work no matter what order the data is in, but when stud
and metric dimensions are listed together, it makes sense that the fields line
up.

The Z dimension should always mean height / thickness according to the rules
for stud dimensions.

Yay, this makes sense! You can always perform a calculation on the server side
to display stud dimensions. Entering a real unit of measurement on the user/data
entry side is a great improvement!

Sorry about that. Here is another screenshot:

An observation, and not a criticism, the Z dimension (on the brick and the slope)
correctly includes the height of the stud on top, and because of that is not
directly convertible into brick heights (when measured in brick units). This
is because assembled bricks nest the stud within the bottom of the above brick.
And, as we all know, no one ever ships bricks assembled (but see below).

Which also, causes the rather oblique situation of hips/legs (which have studs
on top) and torsos, to not add up correctly in the Z direction, because of being
shipped individually.

Somewhere in all this (part II or part III ?) we need to address the issue I
pointed out a couple of weeks back about part-assemblies (e.g. wheels and tires)
and how they are measured for X+Y+Z and if assembling them is required.

Nita Rae

There is no relationship or dependency between the two types of dimensions
- stud and metric. I know in the past that stud dimensions were used to give
an estimate of actual metric size, but we don't want to do that now.

I will continue adding examples of how we want you to measure things for the
catalog. It's going to be a long Help page!

*
44567b Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger on Side without Bottom Groove
Parts: Hinge
where W=1.67

They were rejected because we do not accept stud dimensions on non-standard parts.
Especially now that we have actual metric values being added, there is no need
to find the stud dimensions for weird shapes.

In fact, we are considering hiding stud dimensions altogether, or moving them
to a separate info tab to keep people from being confused. Almost all pertinent
stud information is contained in the item name anyway.

Of course, it is a bit subjective whether a part is "weird" enough to not have
stud dimensions, but that is up to the catalog admin handling the request. Personally,
I would encourage you to spend 100% of your measurement submissions on actual
dimensions at this point, and not worry about the studs.

How will this be used? Will we be able to set up a shipping method that is only
allowed if all pieces are under a certain thickness? (i.i USPS large envelope/flat)

So the checkout would need to find the smallest of the three dimensions for each
element in the cart, and make sure it is below the threshold.

Or is it just to better approximate the total volume of the order?

It's already very much in use with Canadians sellers; it can jump from a
$1.94 stamp to $22 if the part is over 20mm in thickness. Canadian sellers have
been manually putting in the packaging dimensions for every oversized item (and
setting those items to Volume based).

What you do is set the packaging limits (if you have any for USPS) in the shipping
option like you mentioned, and it ensures that if there's a thickness maximum
(like the 20mm in Canada for Lettermail), that no part has any dimension that
goes over that. There's also general volumetric dimensions that you can set
where it's to try to calculate if "that much LEGO" can fit into what you
gave it, but I'm not entirely sure how well this part works.

So you have to exclude a part with any dimension over 20mm? That doesn't
seem like it would work very well. A 1x6x5 brick can easily fit but only one
of its dimensions is less than 20mm.

Believe it or not, the correct answer to this question also involves orientation
within the envelope when shipped. If you put solid bricks (or any part) in the
envelope with the wrong orientation, then it becomes what is known as a nonmachinable
letter
. It all has to do with what USPS (and likely Canada Post) normally
expect letter mail to be subjected to when it goes through the processing equipment.
See this passage in Postal Explorer for a better detail of the requirements (DMM
101.1.2) …

https://pe.usps.com/text/DMM300/101.htm?q=diameter&h=diameter&t=H&s=R&p=1&c=DMM|QSG

There are even a few USB thumb drives that are thin enough to get thru letter
mail, but you need a thin cardboard frame to keep them oriented correctly.

That's what I've been doing the whole time with the packaging dimensions.

They are actually still stored in the system as mm, but we didn't want the
catalog upload forms to use two different measurement standards. All of the dimensions
you entered through the Forum Topic are still in the system and attributed to

If you could please hold off on uploading dimensions for those Item Types until

So you have to exclude a part with any dimension over 20mm? That doesn't
seem like it would work very well. A 1x6x5 brick can easily fit but only one
of its dimensions is less than 20mm.

Sorry that's my mistake in how I described it because I said any dimension
(and that's not accurate). I think it's oversized only on the triple
dimensions because like you said, a brick is flat and is over 2cm in two dimensions,
but not the 3rd ("height") so it fits. So for example, when I manually set packing
dimensions, I haven't even been bothering measuring the exact dimensions
since it's just for me (how it was currently), so I would set all 3 dimensions
to 25mm.
