As some of you will know: TLG recently changed the plastic they were using to
mould trans-clear elements.
I remember having read some critical comments about this, perhaps on New Elementary
or on the Brickset Forum, but I can't remember exactly where.

Anyway: the new plastic material that is used by TLG today is far more prone
to scratching than the old plastic. The colour is also significant different.

I show this in picture below. The trans clear parts on the right side are from
sets that I purchased (and parted out for my shop) before 2019/2020. The parts
on the left side were purchased via the PAB wall in a LEGO shop, but they are
common in recent sets as well.

So my question is: what to do?
Suppose someone orders 8 1x2 transparent bricks from my shop and I send him/her
4x a brick from the left side of my picture and 4x a brick from the right side?
I don't think the customer will be happy!

being moved to slopes - surely this is more appropriate in Bricks, arch

What if the category was named Slope, round? Would that fit better all slope,
curved plus a couple more items?

Really not sure. TLG call slopes - roof tiles;

6091 is called Brick with Arvh - it just seems odd that they are now in slopes

You are long enough around here to know that TLG names are very vague and not
really helpful for people searching for certain bricks.
That's one of the reasons Bricklink was created.

Please tell me what a limb is or a holder and how those terms would be helpful
in identifying a LEGO element.

Personally I consider your post as not helpful at all. Please read the
posts (with extensive explanations) from catalogue admin Stormchaser.

The shopping cart while checking out shows a picture and description of
the part you want to buy, but no part number.
Please add the part number somewhere here.

Thank you.

Yes, this is a change. Yes, it will take a little getting used to. But it makes
more intuitive sense to have these similar parts in the same category.

I welcome this change. For me it really makes sense. Both for my organizing
my moc parts collection as well my BL inventory. Good work!

In Suggestions, Heartbricker writes:
This will be unpopular with new buyers but may have support from sellers who
have been defrauded.
We instituted a measure to protect from fraud (based on being defrauded in the
past) where we require buyers to have a minimum of 5-10 positive feedbacks in
order to purchase certain high priced sets.
Currently, we can only put that in the item's description and buyers ignore
it and place the orders anyway which creates a sticky situation.

So the suggestion is:
Add a feature to individual listings that will prevent buyers with feedback rating
under X to purchase a certain item.
I can see merit to limiting X to 10 so sellers don't demand a buyer has 10,000
to be able to purchase items.

We allow 0 and low FB rated buyers to buy 99.99% of listings in our shop but
have been burnt a couple of times by 0 FB buyers who bought sealed sets in mint
condition and claimed they were opened and used and returned us boxes with non-LEGO
items in one instance and ransacked set on another purchase- PayPal obviously
sided with the buyers both times.

I'm hoping this will be a measure that would prevent this type of fraud and
will be optional to allow sellers the chance to opt out.

I understand what your problem is, but wouldn't it be more effective or efficient
to limit the order amount for first time buyers to a certain amount, say € 50?

Anyway: I don't think your suggestion will gather much support. A buyer has
to start somewhere.

So basically I understand your frustration but I'm also afraid that there's
no easy fix for it.

And for the very reason you mention: I don't sell sealed sets which are over
€ 30. The hassle to get it packaged fool proof to survive international transport....
not my cup of tea.

I don't think this is something that would be approved. No other tray/bucket/base
and lid combinations are in the catalog as combined entries that I'm aware
of. You have the option of listing the trays and lids as a superlot, but setting
new catalog precedent by adding these kinds of entries is probably not a path
we'd want to go down.

Why?
When you look at reviews of Dots sets the boxes are very positively received
and have potential resale value. Going the historically ‘correct’ procedure that
similar parts were not approved earlier is not a valid reason imo. The world
is changing and what was not ok in the past might be ok now.

I would have been interested in buying them when I first discovered their use
in MOCs. I had to buy new leaves instead, in the hope they would include the
sprues.

This might be one of those cases where it would be good to make an exception
and include it in the catalogue. You could try to add it and see what the catmins
think of it. Whether the sprue alone stands a chance, I don't think so, but
the 'leaves on sprue' part has precedents in the flowers, coins and keys.

They are indeed used in MOC's, just like the pins that hold together RC Rails
or the sprue that holds the Harry Potter wands.
[p=36752c01]

The latter one is a popular 'part' in MOC's after New Elementary
published an excellent in-depth article about it: https://www.newelementary.com/2018/08/how-to-use-lego-harry-potter-wand-sprue.html#more

You can see that this part has System connections. So while it is not a part
that you can buy in the LEGO bricks shop, it is somehow a LEGO thing that people
want to buy (and sell).

I do agree there is some sort of inconsistency here. We do have a bunch of sprue-like
parts with no official usage in the library though:

Part No: bb0219 Name: Train, Track Plastic (RC Trains) Connection/Stacking Pin for Track Storage
*
bb0219 Train, Track Plastic (RC Trains) Connection/Stacking Pin for Track Storage
Parts: Train, Track {Dark Bluish Gray}

Part No: 41752 Name: Rubber Band / Belt Holder 2 x 4 x 2 1/3
*
41752 Rubber Band / Belt Holder 2 x 4 x 2 1/3
Parts: Rubber Band & Belt {Dark Bluish Gray}

Both of these are randomly used in MOCs.

And then we have a whole bunch of items listed 'on sprue', flowers, above
wands, infinity stones, etc etc. But the sprue itself is not listed. Appears
that if there are multiple items on a sprue, it is listed as such, but if there
is a single item on a sprue, the sprue is ignored. But some of these sprues might
be very useful for some builds: [p=30112c01,47], [p=6176c01,44].

Thanks for your analysis, good work!

I guess we have to wait for the catalogue admins to chime in when they are awake

If that one is allowed, then all the others should be allowed too. Some of them
have uses, or may have uses in the future.

I agree. Overall I don't think that there are many items that would have
to be added. It could go to gear (like Miro suggested) or maybe to a new category.

I save my sprues from this plant element. I have used them here and there, but
not in great quantity. If I was still selling parts, I would have sold them.

On the flip side, the PAB cups and the BAM plastic cases are sold here. They
are in a sense a conduit in getting the part to your home, much like the sprue
on this plant piece.

Miro

Your analogy to PAB cups and BAM plastic cases (being things that hold parts)
is spot on, Miro!
Maybe the sprues could go to the gear section?

  The orientation is
that of a bar attached to the clip, not that of the clip itself.
I can't find any name change logs of this part.

Great, I never realized that. This is making it easier to remember!

On the page where you can edit the 'mystore' message templates
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/mystore/message_templates.page (see picture 1)

please add the link that is used on the "Customize Wanted List Notification"
page
https://www.bricklink.com/mailTempDetail.asp?ID=6&viewFrom=W (see picture 2)

This would be a great help for sellers when searching this subject and it can
easily be done within the current so called spaghetti code

The result could look like the second picture attached to this post.

The last couple of weeks we've seen an increasing number of forum posts from
new members with questions about how to use Stud.io.

@Bricklink: Please take some effort to make it more clear that when working in
Stud.io, there's a special forum dedicated to those questions so we won't
have to deal with it here.

I know SilvainS is happy to respond to the questions but the BL forum is not
really the place for it.
Thanks.

single sheets of paper) but also other paper items. These are included to promote
the product line or to provide information about what you can do with the set.
Currently there's no way to add these to a set inventory which means that
--as a seller-- you cannot sell a set as 'complete' until these
items are part of the catalogue inventory.

Example:

Set No: 41906 Name: Pencil Holder
*
41906-1 (Inv) Pencil Holder
351 Parts, 2020
Sets: Dots
contains an instruction sheet https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?I=41906-1#T=S&O={%22ss%22:%22NL%22,%22rpp%22:%2250%22,%22iconly%22:0}
and a leaflet/flyer --whatever you want to call it-- with building ideas
and a product overview.

For the above set I added this paper sheet to the catalogue under number 6317480.
I can't add a link to this item in the form of p=xxxx or whatever because
it's not supported in the macro tags. See https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1147
Also: this item is nowhere linked to the sets in which it appears.

StormChaser approved it with the item number 'm20dots' and description
'2020 Mini Dots (6317480)'. BTW: I don't think this is very helpful.

I think we need a way to add those paper leaflets to the inventory of a set.
There are two ways to do this:
1. make items like this a part of the inventory or
2. extend the current set description [set entry | instructions entry | box
entry]
with '| other included items' or whatever you want
to call it.

TLG is distributing general product flyers in sets within the same theme. For
example DOTS and Ninjago Arcade Pods. The flyers are all the same, so not specific
to a particular set.
Can I add those to the catalog? And where: book / gear / catalog / somewhere
else?

How do I go about determining the Sticker # when Adding to the catalog.

For example one is a 87079pb###, how do I determine the last few digits?

Search for 87079pb*
You will get 725 results. The next ‘free’ number should be 726.

These are the sets reserved for inventories.

And you can unreserve the one you reserved here:

Yes:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?invRes=Y

You can find this from the main catalog page by clicking on Set Inventories
under Helpful Guides on the right side of the page. Then look under the
How Can I Contribute column on the left to find the page linked to above.

@Admin_Russell: can you help / clearify?
And please un-reserve the above mentioned set for me.

To save him the trouble of mentioning it, I'll tell you that the set you
reserved will automatically be unreserved after three days if you do nothing.

You are great, thanks a lot!

Just to be clear, all admins are inactive until the new Community Experts Program
is put in place. This does NOT mean they will be inactive in the near future.

Meaning that we have to wait until TLG takes action to do what?
This sounds a bit unclear for me. Can you provide a bit more detail on this?

How are these parts 'handled' by the inventory admins?
Since many of these parts do not yet occur in regular sets, what's the BL
policy here?
What should we know when uploading new parts from BaM?

TL;DR
BaM = Build a Minifigure, an option to build a minifig in an official LEGO brand
store. You can choose from a collection of heads, legs, torso's, hair and
minifig utensils. Some of them were never released before in official sets.

*
26078pb003 Dog, Terrier with Black Eyes and Nose on Gray Background Pattern (BAM)
Parts: Animal, Land
When we know that part is only from that source a note is added.

Parts existing alredy in the catalog but in different color have just added images
of those inw colors to existing entries.

Part No: 20592pb02 Name: Minifigure, Hair Female Mid-Length Flipped Ends, Short Bangs, with Black Cat Ears Pattern

*
28798pb01 Minifigure, Hair Female Pigtails High Bouncy, Hole on Top with Black Hair on Left Side and Black Tie on Right Side Pattern
Parts: Minifigure, Hair {Orange}

As I see two from that link don't have added images yet

Part No: 36036 Name: Lower Body, Skirt
*
36036 Lower Body, Skirt
Parts: Minifigure, Legs, Modified {White}

Strangely: the last four parts are not found when you click on the part number

I agree, the Forum needs an update.

The forum and many other parts of this site are written in extremely old code
and it would require lots of time and effort for programmers to change this.
It's not like changing old code, they have to develop a completely new environment
from scratch. To make the forum 2019-proof they also have to make the forum responsive
for phones and tablets.

In the past two years or so the owners of Bricklink showed no interest whatsoever
in changing the old 1990's code. Maybe they think 'don't change a
thing while it's working'.

Changes to the forum?
This will not happen.
I wish it would.
But I'm sceptical.

BL is really something special: it's outdated but yet thousands of sellers
earn a nice income using the outdated interface.
So I can understand BL's POV: never change something that already works fine.

But it's bad anyway. BL is 1990. We need 2019!

Same for inventories requests (Hygrotus).

Can someone please explain:
- what is the purpose of these requests?
- when you are an administrator, like Hygrotus or Stormchaser, who is the person
that approves/denies? As far as I know there's not a Super Inventories /
Catalogue Administrator paid by BrickLink who has the last word.

Who's the boss?

Everything is here
https://www.bricklink.com/memberAdmins.asp?utm_content=subnav
"Inventories Administrator
Verifies and approves new catalog inventories. Makes corrections to existing
inventories by adding, deleting or adjusting items in inventories. Gives and
revokes Registered Inventories Verifier status to and from other members. Has
auto-approval on inventories additions. Can edit Inventories help topics."

I can approve my own submissons in inventory change requests and my own inventories
and I do it and use this privilege. Some inventory changes are required to be
visible through the forum some may be done without it. Check blue squares here,
these are all changes behind the scenes not posted on forum https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp.

Admin Russell is the boss in catalog and inventories activity

Thanks for clarifying this! But the second link is not working.

This is great, really appreciate!

In January 2017 I made an elaborate post about tiles / tiles, modified / tiles,

Can this be added the list of future catalogue projects?

Thanks - I'm always willing to help with stuff, especially when it involves

BTW: in listings the image is cropped to 400x300 pixels so what's the problem?

Thanks.

It would be good though to notify sellers, but before doing that, there are a
handful of other item numbers that need to be switched, and we could do it all
in one go. Please use this thread to let us know of any other item numbers that
would benefit from such a switch.

I have never received an email from BrickLink to notify me about important changes
to part numbers.
Today I received an email from the other site about such a change:
"The mold variant description of an item that you currently have listed in
your store has been changed in the [...] catalog. As your store differentiates
mold variations, we are sending you this e-mail to let you know of the change.
Please check your inventory to see if it needs to be adjusted to list the items
against the other variation."

So I would like to bring this to the attention of BL admins: please make it happen
that when important changes in the catalogue are made a message will be sent
to all sellers that have that part in their inventory.
Thanks!

That's feedback and it's unrelated There are businesses with low feedback
scores and hobbyists with high scores. It doesn't tell you anything about
the legal form of the transaction.

Nonsense. A “hobbyist” with several sales a week isn’t a hobbyist, whether they
are incorporated / registred / whatever or not.

I'm not so sure. Someone that decides to get rid of their collection may
pick up multiple sales in a week, and go on for a few months like that.

Let me rephrase: Saying “feedback is unrelated” is a nonsense because high feedback
is a strong clue of the seller being a professional.
Yes, you can always contrive examples for which a general rule doesn’t apply
but this rule applies and is used by the IRS/HMRS/DGFIP/… when they decide to
go after you.

   Whereas
a business may get few sales per week. It may not be a very good business, but
still a business if they buy to sell for profit.

Note that I didn’t say a low feedback/revenue indicates the seller is a hobbyist.
Indeed, in another thread, I told a seller their not making money was irrelevant
to their professional status.

Some people (mainly from Common Law countries) tend to argue things aren’t “legal”
or “illegal” until they have been judged as such in a court.
For some people, the “hobbyist status” is a bit like that: as the IRS/HMRS/DGFIP/…
hasn’t yet pounced on them or their fellows, they strongly believe the status
exists and applies to them.

As MarieA says, a seller claiming to be hobbyist while they clearly are not is
a strong clue they won’t follow other rules, like consumer laws.

And yes, I’m pretty sure there are actual hobbyists who have a better customer
services than big professional sellers but Pro vs. Hobby is a bit like New vs.
Used: it’s not a question of aspect / experience, it’s a question of status.

Great comment Sylvain. Especially the last paragraph!
Bon nuit!

Thank you, I hope you will enable buying form your own store.
Speaking about: although it isn't possible at the moment to buy from your
own store, shopping actions ARE recorded under the Cart tab. See picture that
shows I have an active cart in my shop but not able to buy it.

This demonstrates that BL already correctly handles stored carts but right now
it does not take into account that you can't buy from your own store, so
this is a bug.

When you (hopefully!!) decide to make buying from your own store possible --at
least as a testing option-- you don't have to bother about stored carts.
What is a bug now is a feature in the future! (Hope you follow me.)

Thank you.

The real problem is that I'm unable to test my store settings from a customer's
perspective. This is %$#%@# ridiculous. No store on the planet has a policy
that stops employees and management from taking items to a register and going
through check out process (and then void the sale, or abandon it before finishing).
Now this new instant check out has me setting up a system that I'm barred
from using without going to someone else's store to experience their *different*
configuration.

I guess I need to set up a shill account in violation of BL's terms just
so I can make sure my store works as I intend?

Stuart

I couldn't agree more! Yesterday, I had a buyer tell me the only shipping
option they saw in my store was "Hold Order Open". I've always had two, "Order
Is Complete" and "Hold Order Open". I didn't think too much of it, until
it happened again today. I went to try and get far enough in the checkout process
to see what options I saw for shipping options, but no such luck. I eliminated
the "Hold Order Open" option altogether. I'm hoping buyers can now see the
"Order is Complete" shipping option, or they won't be able to fully checkout.
It would be really nice to see how things work in the flesh rather than through
a friend's account, or a friendly buyer letting you know when things are
going on.

I never assemble items when I receive a quote. The only thing I check before
I answer a quote is when the buyer ordered the last item of a lot. Then I check
if it's available. It is however very unlikely because I always check the
remainder of a sold item in my inventory if the remainder is low - below 5 for
example. Then I adjust the number in my inventory.

Actually I see no problem here.

In Suggestions, Teup writes:
I guess I can maybe 4 times out of 5, every 5th request I really need to put
everything together to see how it turns out. And then I need to somehow mark
it as "already sorted", and it can cause inventory synchronisation conflicts,
so all in all I found it to be alot of work and administrative hassle, even if
I can quote before sorting in the majority of cases.

In Suggestions, HPBrickhead writes:
I quote before assembly. I have the weight of the order and can eyeball for
thick/big items.

In Suggestions, Teup writes:
I hope that won't happen.. I had it switched on for some time and it caused
me alot of extra work, as the chance that the buyer will not go through with
it afterwards is rather large, in some cases leaving me with a pile of items
to sort again.. rather allow for orders that can be modified afterwards, for
example, just thinking out loud now, make it obligatory that a seller must approve
item cancel requests up to at least some percentage of the order value. Quotes
are really too non-committal to me, to me figuring out the best package takes
some commitment from both sides.

In Suggestions, HPBrickhead writes:
OR make the Quote feature mandatory. Too often Vendor has disabled Quote then
says "oh an order is an order" and sticks on a huge shipping & handling fee.

In Suggestions, rumbi_rumun writes:
In my opinion the largest problem of the Bricklink page is that the final shipping
costs are often unknown till the invoice. It is much too late. I suggest calculating
the maximum shipping costs before the final checkout.
Let me display an example:
The buyer Alice orders parts which weigh 80 grams. The seller Bob states that
the shipping costs are 3 EUR up to 100 grams and 4 EUR up to 200 grams. Bob means
the TOTAL weight while from Alice's point of view the weight of packing materials
is unknown and never stated. This way Alice doesn't know the final price.
(Btw. I suppose it is against the EU law.)

Once I have come across such a case that in seller's opinion the maximum
net weight of parts was about 30 grams to keep the total weight below 100 grams!
Is it fair and clear?

I can see the following solutions:
(i) suggest the buyers to state their shipping costs precisely, in terms of net
weight of parts or dimensions of parts
(ii) apply automatic calcultion of maximum shipping costs on the checkout page
so that the seller couldn't apply higher costs.
The latter one is much better.

A lot of sites let you click on a tracking number and it takes you right to that
carriers tracking page and shows where your item is. Maybe bricklink could have
sellers "choose a carrier" and then put in the tracking number. Bricklink could
turn that tracking number into a link on the order page. Not sure how all the
fancy stuff works but I didn't see this suggested and it would be really
nice to not have to open a new window all the time.

Although this idea sounds great, in practice is not do-able. There are way too
many shipping companies and too many tracking url's to make this work. Postal
services also frequently change url's, that's another problem to solve.
Speaking for my own country (Netherlands, Potnl), a registered parcel requires
a different url than a not registered parcel, unless it is international. How
does BL know all these details?
BrickOwl tried to do this but it fails.

The way I do it: I enter the tracking number on my carrier's website and
let it search. Then I copy the url which includes buyer's details like postal
code and mail the link to the buyer. It takes one or two minutes to do this and
my buyers are satisfied

They are not only very annoying but also completely obsolete. To go to the top
of any page you just hit the Home button on your keyboard or, on your tablet/mobile
device, you tap the top of your screen.
Concerning the Help button: this will bring you to a page designed in the nineties
(from the past age, yes) where new Bricklink users for example will see "Macro
Tags". If they click on that they will be gone from BL forever LOL. On top of
that: for me a floating Help buttons means that it is context sensitive (e.g.
help for the page where you're on) but this one is not. AND there is already
a permanent link to the bottom of any page: Help Center.
So: get rid of these buttons!

In Suggestions, chetzler writes:
I've seen the "To Top" floating button when in stores and found it to be
only mildly annoying, but now it seems to be in the lower right of EVERY screen
along with a "Help" button. There is already a link to "Help" at the bottom
of every page, why do we need another one (that moves around no less)? Additionally,
I think I can manage manually scrolling to the top of my home screen without
the aid of a bow and arrow.

Is this a recent change or have I just not noticed it before? Do we have to
have these controls that hover and move around on the screen erratically? It's
especially frustrating on a small mobile screen--it's just clutter.

Can we drop them or at least have an option in our settings to turn them off?

+10!
Also make it a link, so when you are at checkout you can click the link and open
it in a new window to verify the item before you give the order a go.

That's why we already have the option to have sales.

In Suggestions, BrickItYourself writes:
How would buyers and sellers feel about a best offer feature?

Of course I know no suggestions are ever implemented, but let's have fund
discussing the topic.

First the concept in general:

Buyers could submit offers to sellers for items they have on sale.

Quick example: Seller has set A, set A sits on the shelf for a while and buyer
comes along and offers 10% under the asking price for Set A and will see if the
seller will part for that price knowing it sells right then and there. When
seller accepts offer, it is a binding sale.

Of course there are all kinds of problems from offers, spam, lowballers etc.

So some obvious programming features to include or consider:

Make Best Offer optional

Make it only allowed for sets, minifigures or some combination and leave out
parts or include all

Limit the number of offers a seller can make per hour/day/week, etc, throttle
them

Allow sellers to report buyers abusing the new feature

I think BL admin should be implementing any features that can increase buying
or selling.

I would like a feature like this instead of messaging, which can be a total waste
of time.

Buyers could enter in shipping prices in their offer helping buyers know what
they will pay ahead of time.

So what does the community think?

Good idea/bad idea?

Any other programming/implementation features to be including for buyer/seller
protection?

Would you use the feature?

Thanks,

Happy Weekend,

Ken

I would like to suggest that BrickLink add a coupon field to checkout in each
store.

We already have 1-to-1 coupons and the ability to put our stores items on sale,
but what we need to be like the rest of the internet is a coupon code field.

Every week I send code words to my customer base for different special offers
and sales. The best I can do right now is ask for them to use that code in the
Comments To Seller field upon checkout. I then have to see that they used the
word and apply the discount manually.

I think it would be fantastic if sellers could manage their active coupon codes,
the duration of the coupon, the discount amount, and the code text itself, then
anyone who knows the code can use it within the timeframe that it is active.

I would love to hear your thoughts as I think this is sorely needed for any stores
who are trying to do repeat business with customers.

If Bricklink supported tags on catalog items (which could be reviewed/flagged

things and there would be less "what is this" questions on the forums. For example
a minifig torso from a NinjaGo Zane minifig could have "NinjaGo" and "Zane" added
as tags. Or a part like 60208 (Wheel 31mm D. x 15mm Technic) could have tags
like "turbine" and "engine" added since its been used as an aircraft/spacecraft/boat/hovercraft
engine part in so many sets. (its never even been used as a wheel as far as I
can tell and no tyres exist that fit it).

I am sure people here can think of many other uses for tags on catalog items...
Brickset has tags on sets and its quite useful.

Good idea, supported. At times I'm searching forever but cannot find. I then
use Brickset to find the item there and go back to BL to buy/sell.

Something simple that the developers could add quite quickly to the price guide
which would help those who use it and are shocked when someone has a non-appropriate
price against an item. In the totals column they could put a total value as well
as total lots and total quantity. If that figure was there, you could easily
subtract the non appropriate value and work your own average price (if that is
how you set your pricing).

There was an example of this this morning. part number 11477 in Dark Purple.
According to the price guide the average price for a used piece should be 1.09,
but when you look at the list of prices for each country this cannot be right.
Then you see an entry for a seller in the USA who has obviously made a mistake
at £45+ which sways the actual average from around 9p to the 1.09. Knowing what
the total value is you could subtract the high value (and quantity, of course)
and easily calculate the real average.

Whilst we believe the entire price guide needs rethinking this could help in
the short term and quite honestly producing the total figure in the query that
brings back the results is less than two lines of code.

Comments?

Please, when refering to a part always use the common notition:

* Add 4 Part 63868 Dark Tan Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Clip Horizontal on End
* Add 6 Part 3023 Dark Tan Plate 1 x 2

Comments from Submitter:
How could the people who both catalogued and checked this inventory have missed every Dark Tan part in it?

I just found 5 more - 4 here and another which is printed, which I'll need to look into more closely.

As with your other request, these are also part of the Dalek minifigs.

A small note to clarify (esp. to the OP): they are not *also* part of the Daleks,
they *are* part of the Dalek minifigs. See the inventory here http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=idea024

Of course it is. Read the suggestion again. The OP wants to PUNISH sellers with
"absurd" prices by kicking them off BrickLink.

It all comes down to reason: listing a brick for a million dollars is without reason

Subjectively, I agree. But where do you draw the line? "Reason" is very subjective.
So a line will have to be drawn somewhere. Pricing a brick at $1,000,000 appears
without reason. But what about a $1,000 brick or a $100 brick or a $10 brick?

Sorry, but irrespective of the obvious legal constraints, I don't want BrickLink
telling me or any other seller what prices are or are not "reasonable" or punishing
me or other sellers if we don't agree with BL's notion of what is "reasonable".
Particularly when there are other suggestions that can adequately address this
"problem" much more objectively without creating any legal issues or additional
problems.

Thor

OK, see your point about where to draw the line. What's your suggestion to
address this problem?

Sure. Let's just ignore suggestions that could get BrickLink and sellers
in legal trouble. Oh, and BTW, the EU has even stricter laws about price-fixing,
pricing constraints and anti-competition. So this isn't the US versus Europe
nonsense you are trying to fabricate.

I'm not trying to 'fabricate' anything. Where the hell did you get
this idea from??

And even if legal concerns were non-existent, BrickLink simply has no business
telling sellers what their prices should or should not be. Nor should any seller
actually be PUNISHED for their prices, as this suggestion wants to do.

It's not about BL punishing what sellers can do or not. It all comes down
to reason: listing a brick for a million dollars is without reason and although
that be may ligit, it's not the way we want BL to operate.
And allowing this crazy practice just means that new buyers are being mislead
by the price guide.

In Suggestions, BrickItYourself writes:
There was a thread earlier in the week about crazy prices on parts and how to
report them.

While there is no way to report things like this (because it isn't an actual
offense), I am suggesting that something is done about price guide manipulation.
My little experiment on taking one piece and setting it to an astronomically
high price and letting the messages flow in was quite helpful to gain insight
on ways that this ACTUALLY takes a toll on buyers and sellers.

Several things that were pointed out:

It only changes the ASKING price, not the price that this has actually sold for.

It really skews part out values (on asking price)

It causes more work for sellers who use the asking price to determine prices
for their actual part outs

There were many other issues pointed out, but they all had to do with ASKING
price, not SOLD price, which begs the question, what if some would have bought
this part from me and toyed around and stretched out the NPB (of course if they
paid I would go retire ) I would have a headache from the fees bill on May
1.

That being said, nothing good comes out of such listings. They are either mistakes
that cause other headaches, intentional for some other reason to not sell that
part at that price.

So, my suggestion is that we ask bricklink to use clause 9 of the TOS for people
that are abusing the price catalog for any reason other than to legitimately
sell the listed item.

"9. Breach:
We reserve the right to terminate your membership, delete all of your data and
deny you access to any or all of your data stored at BrickLink.com if you breach
this Agreement or if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information
you provide to us. We also reserve the right to terminate your membership, delete
all of your data and deny you access to any or all of the site's features
at any time for any reason without prior notice."

This includes the people that have absurd prices to attract people to their store
to see custom items and even using the superlot function of listing popular minifigs
in large batches to draw attention to this.

Yes, I was guilty of using the superlot feature to draw people to my store, looking
back on this, I do see it as wrong.

I also apologize for listing a 2x4 dbg plate for just under $2,000,000.00 this
weekend.

Thanks,

Ken

THANKS, Ken!
Yeah, I got mad too... Now BL has to do something...

Confirmed: checked my set bought three weeks ago.

I didn’t notice the missing holes )

Same here. These buckets have been laying around for 2 years, because I didn't
know what color to use I only noticed last week, that the bucket wasn't
in the catalog yet.

About the color. I still have my doubts. I uploaded a small image in Pearl Light
Gray and it was changed to Flat Silver.

Diana

I checked the buckets in my inventory and half of them were this new part. The
color is flat silver. Pearl light gray is a color that hasn't been produced
in a long time.

Developers, please add iDeal as one of the payment methods for buyers in the
Netherlands.
This payment method is the most common in Netherlands and Dutch buyers/sellers
belong to the Top 10 in the world on BL.
iDeal has a very good and easy to integrate API.
There is also a growing number of PSP's (Payment Service Providers) in other
countries who have iDeal integrated in their payment options.

iDeal = instant payment method where the buyer uses his debit bank account to
pay. Payment is free for buyer, seller pays only a small flat fee, not depending
on the order amount (unlike PayPal).

When submitting items, images or anything else to the catalog, please have an
option to receive an automated email when the submitted item has been approved
(or rejected).
This is very useful when working on inventories, especially when the submitter

Thanks!

Currently there are only two options on the shipping settings page
http://www.bricklink.com/pref_shipping.asp

1. ship to all countries of the world,
2. manually make a selection from the 150(?) options that are provided.

Suggestion: make a button that says "Select All" so sellers can UN-select
countries they don't want to ship to.

Right now when I want to exclude (for example) 3 countries from my list I have
to UN-select 147 countries manually. This is such a nuisance!

I'm almost sure I've read forum posts about this before but couldn't
find it.

@ BrickLink: Please display the country flag next to the buyer/seller names on

while parting out and it just occurred to me that probably a lot of people are
going through that same chore. Wouldn't it be nice to have an option to
just part out your extras from a set?

An easy way to accomplish the same thing can be done pretty simply using BrickStock.
All you have to do is import the set in question and you will notice that on
the left side of the inventory there is a column that shows what the different
pieces are. The standard parts are represented by a check mark, the extra pieces
are represented by a plus sign and the counter parts are represented by the letters
CP. Just delete all the parts with out the check mark and you will now have the
extra pieces left ready for upload into your inventory.

Jim

Every other week or so people on this forum are reporting problems with Brickstock.
Brickstock is not Bricklink. We would like to have solutions within BL - which
is reliable on the first place and accountable in the second place if anything
goes wrong. With third party software you are on your own when something goes
wrong...

Does this make sense and is it something that others could benefit from?

Upload the photo to MyImages and include the link wherever you want.

This is not what the OP is asking for. The OP ask for an easy way to have a picture
related to an order, not for a place to host a picture (there are enough
of them already).

Great suggestion, voted YES. I always make a photo as well and it would be nice
to have the possibility to make it accessible for the buyer. At least one time
in my seller history I could prove to the buyer that I packed a certain item
that was claimed 'missing' by providing my photo of the packed order
via email. This simple feature could prevent a lot of buyers claims.

Thinking of offering quote requests in my store. Just dipping my foot in the

forgive me) wording given when placing a quote request.

It says:

Requesting a quote is not accompanied by duty of placing an order and sellers
are not obligated to hold the quoted items.

accompanied by duty of? sounds like I'd have to be a college grad
to understand that phrase.

And sellers are not obligated to hold the quoted items when in fact we
can't hold the quoted items. It's made to sound like we have a choice,
and if the items disappear, it is because the seller made a choice not to hold
the items for the buyer.

I think that the wording should be changed. Below is my suggestion, but anything
that reads better than it does now would I'm sure be an improvement.

Requesting a quote does not obligate you to place an order.

Warning: items in a quote request will remain available to other buyers until
the quote is turned into an order.

Thanks for listening,
Katie

Support this! Maybe the word 'Warning' should be replaced by 'Please
note' which sounds more friendly in my opinion.

Sellers who want to keep track of their profit ratio (whether for personal insight
or for bookkeeping purposes) will always run into this same problem:

You just parted out $100 worth of parts, yes..

but..

your existing lots were updated with new prices. This means that although you
may now calculate your profit rate based on that $100, you have no idea what
just happened to the profit rate of the old bit of inventory.

To me it would seem fairly easy for Bricklink to compute an additional line,
"Value of existing inventory was modified with -$25" or, "Value of inventory
has increased with $75"

This information is much more interesting than the value of the bit you just
added. This way, you can calculate your actual profit rate, which will otherwise
always be obscured by the consolidation effects. In fact, you could theoretically
be running with a zero profit rate, without that ever appearing to you.

It is easily calculated, and can also be manually calculated - just look at the
difference in value before and after adding.

I do this all the time:
(1) before parting out a set I make a note of current inventory ("My inventory
total value after sale (Category Average): EUR xxx") This is InvOld
(2) part out my set and write down the POV (Part Out Value)
(3) go back to the inventory page (reload page) and check inventory total again
= invNew
Now compare the difference: (invNew-invOld) - (invOld+POV) and you're done!

We have had good feedback from several of the UK's stores and wonder what
others around the globe feel.

This should give us the ability to deal with our inventories on a more accurate
basis and , if there are any gremlins in Bricklink's system, point them out.

Thoughts?

Right now we have the so called "Bricklink time" which is Eastern Daylight Time
(EDT). This is the time used in the Eastern part of the USA and Canada.
This is not very useful in other parts of the world, especially when it's
used in announcements about site shut downs (for maintenance).

Suggestion: make an extra line in the footer of every page with a couple of time
zones where most BL transactions take place.
It's simple to program and it could read like this

EDT 11:28 | UK (London)..:.. | Central Europe (Berlin) ..:.. | Asia (Bangkok)
..:..

I realize there are dozens of time zones and you can't display them all.
Make this available for the top 80% of the BL-sales.

Not sure if this post belongs here but when trying to find a username on the
collage page http://www.bricklink.com/memberCollage.asp? if it finds nothing
you're not receiving a message like 'Not found' but the page simply
reloads with the latest added picture. Not a big thing but also a small effort
for the developers to change this, I guess

But no one knows the history. Yes, the old forum users would probably know what
they were posting to, but new users don't know anything about this.

I agree. "Instant Checkout" started as something else as well. Don't we
have forum moderators any more?

I don't understand what makes it confusing.

If the topic of a new message is different than it was before, it makes sense
to change the subject line. And if a message is a reply to a previous message,
it makes sense for it to be threaded properly.

I notice by myself that I'm getting more and more irritated by lengthy posts
from 'sellers' who have nothing to sell, yet they have very strong opinions
on everything going on here on BL. Not only Thor, but Rick_S as well.
To those people I would say: go on with your life and have fun with LEGO - but
not in this forum...

Best wishes,
Martin

As someone suggested you really need to step back and take another look at your
posts.

IF there was an award for "too personal" you surely would be in the running.

You do remember that you brought your own personal life to this LEGO forum on
more than one occasion.

In all seriousness take the advice of your 'friends' here and try looking
at your own actions and responses to them.

I do not claim to be an expert at anything but we have been here for some 12
years now and I have seen the best best and worst of things.

I have to admit you know exactly what you are doing when you post so as to get
a long and heated discussion going while slowly digressing onto other agendas.

A talent probably best suited for a discussion board, not so much of any real
value to a toy (Lego) forum.

Perfect insight. Well said and thank you for your observations. We all need
to be calmer about this.

Agree, 7 days should be a realistic time frame. If a seller can't ship an
order in this time he's either disorganized or not a good planner. There's
always the option to close your store for a couple of days if you foresee that
you can't handle the amount of orders in time (for whatever reason).

Martin

In Suggestions, TheBrickStore writes:
  Hi BL community:

After careful and deliberate consideration, I honestly believe BrickLink needs
to establish a timeframe for shipping of an order from the date/time the order
was placed with a seller. The site seems to be moving in a "carte blanche" way
for sellers. Sellers who take weeks/months to ship orders should be banned quite
honestly. Those few sellers are NOT a GOOD commodity for this site. New buyers
just don't understand and experienced buyers like myself are becoming more
and more alarmed over these long long shipping practices by a few sellers. Sure
you can avoid them once you know who they are but why give any seller more than
seven business days to get an order in the mail???? I just don't get it.
What other company takes a month plus to ship an order????

So if BrickLink is not willing to establish shipping rules for sellers (seem
to have all kinds of rules in place for buyers concerning payments) then at least
allow a buyer to be able to cancel a contract if seller has NOT shipped within
seven business days. Personally I think seven business days is too long but
it is a start.

Yes I understand that some sellers here are hobbyists and do not run a store
as a business but it is strange that most if not all hobbyists send out their
orders within seven business days.

I am not suggesting at this time that we punish any seller for failing to ship
within seven business days, I am just giving the buyer the right to cancel an
order/contract if the order is not shipped within seven business days of payment.

Sellers under this new rule would not be able to state in their terms that shipping
time is longer than seven business days.

Thanks

very convenient to sellers if they could opt for the first feature: summary of

Very often I'll start on a cart and wish to move onto a secondary device

I have to completely restart my cart.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the past or not.

If I don't close the browser on the pc I can continue on my mobile.
The My Bricklink page reads: 1 store with items in cart.

It should also work when you close your browser. Carts are saved up to 6 days,
I believe.

Please allow more than 50 photos a day.

Parted out 10 sets of these and found a total number of 12x 3794b and 8x 3794 instead of 20x 3794b.

At the moment email confirmations of orders are formatted the same way --
both for selling and buying. The subject line is:

Subject: BrickLink Order #1234567 - BUYERSNAME Buys LEGO(R) From SELLERSNAME

When using filters or scripts to organize incoming emails there's no way
to distinguish orders received or placed.
Suggestion: Please make a difference in the subject line of these emails
so that is clear whether it concerns an order received or placed.

Additionally: the subject line now has a soft return (line feed) and another
unknown character after the 4th digit of the order number. This also is quite
annoying when organizing or replying to emails.
See attached picture.
Suggestion: please delete the soft return / linefeed + extra unknown character
from the subject line.

Best regards,
Martin

In Suggestions, unordained writes:
Could we get a chart showing recent (1 month?) country-to-country shipping times,
calculated as the difference between date "shipped" and the lesser of "received"
or "completed", preferably as a distribution, not just an average?

I realize that's complicated by the many ways sellers can label their shipping
providers (fedex, dhl, national postal system, etc.) and options (expedited,
standard, surface). Ignoring those distinctions, I would expect to see these
various options show up in the chart as bumps (modes) in the distribution, indicating
packages are likely to make it from country X to Y either in 3 days (probably
expedited) or 12 days (standard) or a long-tail with a slight bump around 50
days (probably surface). The reader can come to his/her own conclusions.

It wouldn't be perfect, but I see the question popup in the forum frequently
enough, and I wonder myself when buying from overseas, and it seems like the
database should already have the data (at least grossly.)

If we could see the distribution over time (one-month intervals) we could infer
some basic trends -- are the labor disputes on the US west coast, or the
weather on the US east coast, actually affecting shipping times the way we suspect
they are, etc.
