| It would be good for consistency in the catalog description if all instances
of numbers were either integers or words, not arbitrarily some of each.
So:
Three eyeballs, Three earlobes
or
3 eyeballs, 3 earlobes
not
Three eyeballs, 3 earlobes
...that kind of thing.
There are pros and cons for each option. Please investigate how the search mechanism
works to see which option yields better results.

Author: | StormChaser | Posted: | Feb 7, 2020 14:45 | Subject: | February Roadmap Project: Old and New | Viewed: | 243 times | Topic: | Catalog | Status: | Open
| We are finally making serious headway with the catalog backlog. The catalog
change requests queue is cleared out.
In the spirit of trying to ensure that the Catalog Roadmap is not just something
to look at, I am continuing with the goal of moving through one project each
month. We have essentially had a January project (flesh to nougat) and there
is a new project starting today for February:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2476
What is this project?
This project involves accurately describing the differences between early (old)
versions of an item and later (new) versions. We need this for two reasons:
1. Using the words "old" and "new" were easy ways to avoid having to describe
actual differences between items. Set numbers in minifigure titles performed
the same function, which is why they were removed.
2. When a third version of an item appears, the old/new descriptors are useless.
Similar items should be described by their differences (usually the way in which
the later version is different from the earlier version).
There are around 500-1000 items expected to be affected by this project.
How can members contribute?
For the immediate moment, members may contribute by submitting title change requests.
I'm not sure how we're going to do item numbers yet, so hold off on
those. If you're not confident that you know exactly what this project entails
or need clarification on a specific issue, then please ask before submitting
a request.
For the immediate moment, ignore the additional topic bundled with this project
(looking at the use of with/without in titles). We may be able to include that,
or it may need to be made its own project. This project should also look at
the use of early/later descriptors since they serve the same function as the
terms old/new.
The goal is to wrap this up by the end of February. Of course, we also have
catalog work still to do and that takes precedence over projects - so this may
run over schedule.

Author: | Brick.Door | Posted: | Feb 7, 2020 10:39 | Subject: | 30374 Bar 1x4 Frosted Variant | Viewed: | 84 times | Topic: | Catalog | Status: | Open
| Found some frosted trans-light-blue 1x4 bars in a set recently and I'm not
comfortable mixing them with my current inventory. They are quite different and
I don't think a customer who orders several would be happy getting a mixture.
The additional notes state:
"Alternate item number 28697 is used for transparent colors. This mold variant
has no bubbles and number 28697 molded on it. It has been found in two variations
clear and frosted as showed on additional images."
So it seems the catalog admins are aware of the difference and have decided not
to reflect it in the catalog here? Personally I think this is a mold variation
worth recognizing.

Interesting, more than ten years and almost nobody noticed it.
(OK I understand we can see them only from the front as they never retreat when
they attack so you can't see their back )
Interesting in our catalog torso is showed without long line.
According to the information which I found here
http://minifigs.nl/swminifigs/mfnl-shadow-ms.html
one with long line could be from magnet set from 2009.
* | | 852715 (Inv) Magnet Set, Minifigures SW (3) - Darth Vader, Snowtrooper, Shadow Trooper - with 2 x 4 Brick Bases blister pack Gear: Magnet: Star Wars |
so from sets which were issued earlier 2007 and 2008 could be one with short
line
My with short line is from set
I have also two in my collection with long line but bought them years ago loose
without sets.
I submitted both as new as in this case sw0166 should be marked for deletion
as we don't know which one is currently sell under this entry.

| Hello everyone,
Today I am very pleased to announce we have a new Catalog Associate! As you may
see from the Hall of Fame, StormChaser has previously held two catalog-type admin
positions - Inventories Admin and the legacy Catalog Admin - and has recently
returned to the site.
We're delighted he has decided to come back, and I know many of you missed
him as well. He has many ambitious plans for the catalog, and now that we have
more staff on board, it's looking as though we can start making some serious
headway.
So please join me in welcoming him. You can see his familiar profile in line
with the others here:
https://www.bricklink.com/memberAdmins.asp
StormChaser is also the first member to officially join our new Community Expert
Program. We hope to see the other catalog admins joining in the next day or two,
and the rest of our admins within the week.

across them over time as I pull other orders and see them? I was hoping they
would go into stockroom with no option to relist or something like that, not
just completely disappear. I should have screenshotted it so I had a record of
my previous inventory and its location, but didn't get a chance to between

| I can't help myself from returning to this topic.
It is not right to erase people who have contributed to the catalog and turn
them into a meaningless number (and a username that rhymes with "loser.").
The first attached image shows people who have contributed a set inventory to
the catalog. For each person it was only one inventory, but it was time they
took out of their day or week to make a contribution.
The second image shows people who have added items to the catalog. One person
added 113 items. Another added 97 items. Yet another added 87 items. And so
on down the list.
Some of these unregistered users are no doubt dead. Some have moved on to new
pursuits. Some may be in a coma or in prison. Who knows why any one person
hasn't logged on or may never log on again?
BrickLink wants contributions. BrickLink wants an involved community. But when
BrickLink treats former contributors so dismissively, by erasing them into meaninglessness,
it makes me think they have no respect for contributors.
BrickLink contributors deserve better treatment than this. Anonymizing people
who have contributed to the catalog was a poor decision. It was a careless and
heartless decision.
I urge the site to reconsider the decision to anonymize any former catalog and
inventory contributors.

an obvious color difference among them when held up to the light. 5 of them look
trans-black, and the others look trans-dark blue (even the staff of the piece
has a bluish look when held just right in the light).
But the current Bricklink catalog only has Naginatas with a trans-orange blade
and trans-light blue, both of which mine don't fit. Does anyone else with
these pieces notice this color discrepancy? I'm not sure how to list these

| There seems to be an increasing trend of identifying patterned parts by simply
calling them Pattern 1 and Pattern 2. Here are three random examples of recent
parts, but I could go on for a while.
I would caution against this practice of non-descriptively titling items. In
fact, I was hoping the site would move away from things like this, not more toward.
Although I suppose we could greatly simplify all titles by simply going the Mini
Upper Part "No. 1470" route that TLG uses.

| Inconsistency is a pet peeve of my, so you know it's my last nerve on this
issue.
I haven't parted out much lately, but I got an opportunity to part out 3
of the 2019 Star Wars Advent Calendars
For the last 9 years TLC has included a Winter-ized SW figure in the 24th position
on the calendar. I saw that this last year was a Porg Santa. I didn't look
at the BL inventory to see how the subsets were being handled before I started.
I wanted to preserve the Porg Santa as a complete fig and part out all the other
"parts only" droids.
After finishing the sorting, I went to upload the part-out to BL. And that's
when I found it....Porg Santa was a part out...grrr. But the Gonk and Mouse
droids were left to sell whole...grrrr.
Who decides this stuff? How hard is it to be more consistent? I know there
is a lot of discussion about "What SW Droids are figures" and what are not.
But geesse, SMH.
Just my two cents.
Thanks for reading, no changes are expected.

| For quite some time now there have been discussions on the forum about catalogue
changes as well as other areas of improvement to the site (Performance etc.).
There have been lots of different people involved and Russell has commented on
a couple of occasions but of course nothing is out in the open for plans at present
whilst the Lego takeover completes.
One thing I find strange and that is with all the talent (Programming wise) that
exists on the site, coupled with the technical Lego knowledge that also exists,
no one other than a couple of people have chimed in about getting some senior
analysts involved with a plan to redevelop. This is a very complex site but it
can be broken into segments |(elements) many of which can be handled by existing
software. For example the core processing behind the site is an order processing
system. We are aware of at least two products which could deal with that side
of it easily and have been built with 'linking in' other elements in
mind.
Inventory control, which in our opinion, is an essential element which has been
needed for some time is also out there and fits nicely into either of the two
above products. Again this needs an analyst to look at it and report to the decision
makers what needs to be done. It doesn't, with all due respect, require a
programmer to sit down and write the code first.
The catalogue is a different animal and needs a huge amount of thought. The data
currently held is priceless - not sure even Lego have it all, so that needs some
TLC and a significant amount of time spent to come up with the best way forward.
But, and it is a little word with a great big meaning here, the costs of doing
this are nowhere near outrageous and if libraries of code can be used e,g, order
processing, inventory control etc, then huge amounts of money and time can be
saved in achieving what is required.
The redevelopment of this site will not cost a fortune and it was well within
the means of the former owners to accomplish. They chose, for whatever reason,
not to do that - Lets hope that Lego will look at it differently.
Lets get behind hiring some senior analysts and get the project off the ground.
There was never a better time to start than now. With the strength of Lego and
its marketing machine behind the site who knows where we can go.

| Now that Lego has acquired Bricklink do you think the official Lego part numbers
will be more widely used/accepted on BL or will Lego in fact actively want to
encourage the use of their codes on the site as a primary means of identifying
parts in the BL catalog?
Either way when you search for an official Lego part number BL already recognises
it so is there any reason the official Lego part code is not displayed alongside
the part in question? Perhaps there’s already an option in the settings to display
them that I don’t know about?
Also is there any reason BL have continued using their own reference codes instead
of switching to Legos? If it’s just a case of not wanting to upset members that
have inventoried their physical stock and become accustomed to these BL codes
wouldn’t it be better to have both codes to hand so that buyers and sellers alike
have the option of choosing whichever codes they prefer to work with?

Ok, maybe the picture is there because it is an official product image from TLG.
So they are also using the wrong image in their own online shop.
According to TLG's description of the set, it contains only a 32 x 32 baseplate...

Author: | StormChaser | Posted: | Dec 25, 2019 14:28 | Subject: | Unhelpful Feature | Viewed: | 170 times | Topic: | Catalog | Status: | Open
| Making this a catalog request instead of a site suggestion so that I know it
will be read. All of the parts linked to below have inventories containing at
least one variable color part.
For these parts the color shown on the Part Inventory tab (which I'm defining
as the new inventory page) is (Variable Color):
* | | 2878c01 (Inv) Train Wheel RC, Holder with Black Train Wheel Pair on Chrome Silver Metal Axle with Slots (2878 / 2879c01) Parts: Wheel |
Took me a little bit, but I figured out that's only because they appear in
multiple colors.
However, for other parts also inventoried with variable colors the new page shows
an actual color name because they only appear in one color:
* | | 4180c01 (Inv) Brick, Modified 2 x 4 with Black Wheels, Train Spoked Small (23mm D.) and Black Pins (4180 / wheel3 / 2344) Parts: Wheel |
* | | 38339c01 (Inv) Train Wheel RC, Holder with Pin Slots with 2 Black Train Wheel RC Train with Pins (38339 / 38340) Parts: Wheel |
* | | 4180c04 (Inv) Brick, Modified 2 x 4 with Red Wheels, Train Spoked Small (23mm D.) and Red Pins (4180 / wheel3 / 2344) Parts: Wheel |
I'm guessing this was done on the new inventory page to make things less
confusing, but it is inaccurate. If a part is inventoried with one or more components
having variable colors, then the new page shouldn't make things more confusing
by falsely representing the inventory to contain a defined color.
Only by clicking through to the old inventory page (Item Consists Of) can you
determine if the inventory is correct, and even then you can only surmise the
existence of a variable color when there is no image and no part color listed
(the words "Variable Color" don't appear on that page).
The new inventory tab is convenient to use, but it's disappointing that it
doesn't accurately reflect variable colors in inventories.
Can this issue be corrected?

| In the Bricklink catalog set 21038 is mentioned but if I remember well it was
discontinued before it was ever sold.
All due to the shooting from the Mandalay Bay hotel.
In my believe Lego showed the box art before the shooting and well before it
entered shops.
After the shooting it was discontinued without making it going to shops, before
a real release.
If so I think this set shouldn’t be in the catalog, there is most likely no set
to be found ‘in the wild’.
Therefore it might be poluting the catalog.

Reading various posts recently.
Why is it not possible to have all leg variants in the catalogue.
If you can have torso's, arms, hands as separate items why can it not be
done for hips and legs. (Lego only supply torso's complete with arms and
hands)
They do come apart, its not a problem easing them apart, no different than trying
to take arms out of torso's.
If I have a hips/legs combination with one leg marked or bitten, why can't
I just buy the leg I need?
Am I missing something?

| So there's an item on eBay that is not in the BrickLink catalog: 372862431557
I've attached pictures. The interesting thing is the copyright date on the
packaging (1984) and the item number (198561). That figure didn't first
appear until several years later:
So then I looked around and saw there are a number of items in what looks like
the same packaging with what is almost certainly the same item number. Search
for the item number on BL to find four of them, but there are quite a few more:
Some of them would not have been released in '84. So all of that to say
that the copyright date on this bag is not trustworthy. It appears to be a generic
bag the company liked and used for a number of years.

This has probably been around before, my apologies!
Within international copyright law, i believe it states that copyright is automatically
vested in the creator. Unless rights are assigned (and/or reassigned) by contract.
Images supplied to BrickLink should be the property of the creator, however if
memory serves, BrickLink claimed copyright when BrickOwl emerged back in 2013.
Was copyright truly, legally transferred?
If so does LEGO group now own (or claim to own) said copyright?
OR do the individual creators of images still own Copyright?
Just curious, mostly interested in the images of minifigures being used and the
ability to use on eBay, individual stores own websites etc.
Thanks.

Author: | StormChaser | Posted: | Dec 9, 2019 05:57 | Subject: | Parts Category Tree | Viewed: | 236 times | Topic: | Catalog | Status: | Open
| I've been pondering the category trees. When you click on Parts from the
main catalog page you get hit with 230 categories. It's hard to justify
adding further categories, even though needed for some existing categories, because
there are already too many.
I've also been thinking about simple fixes that maintain the BrickLink look
and feel and imagined what it might be like with some submenus (the large image
below with the selections shrunk from 230 to only 85). The little plus signs
might not be the best way to do this - they just indicate for the purposes of
discussion that this category can be expanded or leads to another menu.
I've also imagined a Themed Parts menu and a Minifigure Items menu (those
menus happen when you select those options from the main menu) and added those
images.
Of course, I would always want to be able to see the entire category tree by
default if I chose that option.
Good things: you don't have so much to wade through - allows quicker selection
of exactly what you're looking for. Also, the categories within submenus
could be significantly expanded to make finding items even easier without fear
of adding to the existing mess.
Bad thing: you have to click into more menus to get where you're going.
Thoughts?

| Hi there,
Is there an intention to better integrate, or at least link, pieces that are
physically the same shape, but are split into different records (eg, monochrome
and marbled variants)? An example I've found is 53562 (and 53562pb01, etc).
Users unfamiliar with the history of the part, or how Bricklink's catalogue
works, might not realise that there are are other variants of this exact same
part, as they aren't even mentioned on the monochrome version (in the case
of 53562 such piece didn't debut until four years after its multi-toned version).
Apologies if this has been brought up before (I'm not a regular poster),
it just seems odd that the catalogue links to similar molds (eg, 32174) but not
variations of the exact same mold. I would be prepared to do some work on this.

How are these parts 'handled' by the inventory admins?
Since many of these parts do not yet occur in regular sets, what's the BL
policy here?
What should we know when uploading new parts from BaM?
TL;DR
BaM = Build a Minifigure, an option to build a minifig in an official LEGO brand
store. You can choose from a collection of heads, legs, torso's, hair and
minifig utensils. Some of them were never released before in official sets.

"other descriptions" to help narrow the field (it used to, and it does for torsos).
This is what I get when I searched Black Hips and Black Legs. One item and it
has blue hips.
The old goatleg was soooooo much better!!!! I don't know what happened with

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=70730stk01&
I checked the instructions for the part and the sticker is applied as needed.
I have a few questions:
- What is the best name to give to the part?
- How to find what is the part number to use? 47753pb???
Thanks,
Tamas

| Hello, is this sticker in the catalog somewhere? I cannot seem to find it. It
was a Star Wars promo in 2010.

| Hello everyone,
* | | 772 Brick 1 x 2 x 2 without Inside Axle Holder or Stud Holder Parts: Brick Marked for Deletion |
I came across this brick while checking the inventory of 7623
and I am wondering, does this part variant actually exist? I do not have it in
my collection and I also haven't found a photo showing the bottom (BL doesn't
have one too). Moreover, the quantities for sale are very low. I have asked four
sellers to check this variant. Two of them replied instantly and said their parts
are 3245b/c. One seller didn't answer but moved his parts to 3245b/c and
one seller didn't react at all. Based on that it is very likely that the
other parts for sale are also sorted incorrectly. But I don't know how to
go on with this thing now. How can one be sure that this variant actually does
not exist?
(Yes, there is a printed brick but I am talking about the plain variant.)
Regards
Jonas

| Anyone know why this happens? I notice the also melt the bricks they are sitting
against, so I'm presuming some sort of chemical reaction.
I'm guessing heat? I've run into this 3 times now one the lots also had
heat warped baseplates. I've never seen it on my own/original lego which
has never experienced a hot garage.
Are they trash? Can I clean them?
I just got some in light grey and was pretty stoked (only came in 3
sets) and they are awful gooey messes, I have more on the way and I don't
want it to be a total loss. The weird color on a common part is so neat in person.
Thanks everyone

| These warped 2x4 plates have been showing up in some lots I've bought (I've
thrown out about 25 of these during the last couple of months).
They only ever warp in the pip end, and I've seen it only for black, and
never for any other types of plates.
Does anyone know of an explanation?

| Hey all,
Has anyone else ran into this? I have a sw0620 Tusken Raider mini but without
the markings on his shirt. He is super mint looking and doesn't look like
they have been removed. I will try to take a pic of him to show. So, has anyone
else ran into this one?? Thanks for any info.

| Any reason there are 6 entries for the same sticker sheet? Can the name not
contain all the different sets it comes from?
