There is a feature I would love to see in Bricklink, it goes like this:

I have x number of pieces that belong to a set but I do not know what the set
is. I would love to specify which pieces I have and then view all the sets that
all the pieces belong to.

I do know that I can look up a single piece but it gets difficult cross referencing
5 or 6 pieces to find the common set.

Please let me know if you think this would be a beneficial feature or if you
would like more info.

Thanks

I wonder though: what happens when the variants aren’t functionnally equivalent?

LEGO doesn’t really care, a brick is a brick is a brick.

Well, apparently, from the Eurobricks’ topic Hygrotus linked to, it depends whether
you get a friendly person from LEGO customer services, especially if you’re one
of the first to encounter the issue.

I think here is answer for your question. I remember problems with arch mold
in this set

Set No: 79003 Name: An Unexpected Gathering
*
79003-1 (Inv) An Unexpected Gathering
623 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 2012
Sets: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The Hobbit

Oh, very interesting indeed. Thank you.

That's funny. I just encountered 4 of these:

LEGO just uses everything they have, maybe they dug up an old container with
the X bottom and mixed them in with the newer parts.

LEGO never throws anything away, this is how we got old Maersk blue 3001old in
modern sets

I wonder though: what happens when the variants aren’t functionnally equivalent?

  Hello,

Over the las couple of months i have designed some cars in Studio.
Some bricks in the middle may have a different color than the color I am currently
building. So if the color doesn't matter you select 'not applicable'
for that specific brick.

It always takes quite some time to figure out in the wanted list which bricks
should be on not applicable. I think it is much easier to include the 'color'
not applicable in the list of colors in Studio.

As an extra function it is then useful to be able to choose the color of the
'not applicable' bricks. For example, if you are building a model in
red, you can set the 'not applicable' bricks to yellow. Because of the
contrast between these two colors you keep the overview on the model.

Agreed… but the dedicated forum for Studio is http://forum.bricklink.com/
