I have seen this with the Bionicle parts. The Bionicle Pearl Dark Gray is greener
than other non-Bionicle parts. The browns are different and some of the trans
parts are off a bit too.

Just sell/buy the part as PDG, it will be fine.

Ok I have ran across another color issue, I have ran across this a few times
but this time both parts came from the same used set. Assume both are blue but
1 is discolored. Does anybody sell these or do they go in the scrap bin?

It is discolored from age. I think someone calls it "brittle blue". I have
seen this in my inventory, brand new blue bricks turned yellowish, inside and
out. I donate them to schools. Sometimes these blue parts will crack easily,
especially minifig torsos. It's not all blue parts, so some blue parts are
made with a different recipe?

Someone else talked recently that he opened a MIB set from the '90s had a
lot of blue pieces discolored.

It's a known issue, but I'm not sure if anyone knows why.

I am having trouble with brown vs Reddish brown, and also light grey vs light
bluesish gray. Does anyone have any suggestions how to identify which is what?
Are these current colors with Lego?
Thanks in advance!!

The light gray, dark gray and brown are older colors now discontinued. Reddish
brown, light bluish grey and dark bluish gray are the newer colors that continue
to the present.

The best way to distinguish between these colors is to use natural sunlight to
look at them. That may help you see it better. if you can't use natural light
you can buy daylight light bulbs at the store and that will help you see the
colors also.

If you're still having trouble using those sources to distinguish between
the colors you might want to ask a female person to help you distinguish them.
It is well known that women have more color cones in their eyes than men, so
they are able to distinguish between colors better than men.

Once you have examples of the different colors you might want to make a color
brick reference for yourself. This will give you something to compare to when
you're having trouble.

Don't beat yourself up over it, a lot of people have trouble with this.
I hope this is helpful,
Donna

I really like the extensive catalog, and think that most of the differences (like
the jumpers or tiles with groove, etc) are really useful.

But when you get to things like this, with a 1 x 2 x 6 arch, having something
like 4 variants, doesn't it make it too hard for sellers AND buyers?

I get the raised arch difference, that is notable, but this thin/thick thing?

To me, yes. I have never been able visually to distinguish the difference between
the two without reinforcement - medium think - thin. I just don't see it,
try as I might.

You can always check mold number molded on the part's underside, magnifying
glass maybe needed.

Or a light piped thingamajig if you happen to be an entomologist (which is kind
of cheating).

I thought about buying an otoscope the other day so I could see the part number
on the giraffe guy's hat. Then I thought that might be a sign of obsession.

but I finally was able to read this mold number

they change colors in the molding machine, I just never saw two with that much
difference before

The second is a slope I found and I can't really explain the speckle. It
is a LEGO part, seems to be mostly Light Bluish Gray. When I looked at it through
a loop, as you can see here, it has small shafts of black. I would expect round
beads, but not shafts.

Does anyone know how the slope got speckled?
Anyone interested in owning them?

Thanks for all of your input. I will double check that is or isn't LEGO.

I searched the most recent suggestions but didn't find anything about this.

Can a link to the Problem Order page be put on the Order Details Page (anywhere)
and be pre-populated with the order number when clicked?

I find it cumbersome to have to either remember the order number or copy and
paste it after navigating to the Problem order page. I can't be the only
one who has accidently canceled the wrong order (only once, but almost a few
other times).

I can't see that this would be hard to do since there is already a link to
message the buyer/seller on that page and is pre-populated with the order number
as the title.

Thanks,
Donna

As most seem to come from a particular region of the world, I understand it's
often a simple cultural difference, but not always.

I have standard form reply, that I copy and paste. However, maybe some thought
can be given to addressing this increasingly common issue, site-wide.

I have one member from Germany who first placed the order and paid, then pretty
much demanded customs fraud. Still dealing with that shipped order. If I pasted
his correspondence here, many would most likely think it fiction

Here's where I'm way over my head....can code be written that would give
a pop-up banner, when a member attempts to message or order from another member
of a differing country? Maybe something with a fairly benign statement regarding
customs forms.

Until then, I'll just keep copying and pasting

Let me expand my thoughts a little more here.....

I don't really know what constitutes customs fraud as per US import and customs
statute.

Stating anything other than the truth about what you are shipping. Sending merchandise
as a gift, stating the value is anything other than the actual value that should
be on an invoice attached to the outside of the package, filling out anything
on the form with info that is not true.

I know there are cultural difference to consider

Definitely...I think most of us in the US feel badly for buyers in other countries
that have to live with extra taxes or even government corruption to buy items
from around the world. I know I do.

I know it's fraudulent

It's a felony if you get caught. I don't want to go to jail for doing
it!

I know it's dishonest

I know having a stranger ask me to lie, feels bitting. Personally I can't
feature asking another to lie on my behalf. Especially, to save a few bucks....

In some countries it can be a lot more than a few bucks...several hundred can
be common depending on the order amount.

It's a tough situation to have to deal with...unfortunately the only choice
for sellers in the US is to fill it out honestly.

Foster has had a number of deep threads on this subject. Maybe he will chime
in.

I hate when I click an off-site link in a post and it opens in the current tab.
Take a lesson from BrickSet, it's a much better experience and keeps the
user at BrickLink at the same time. (yes I know how to hold the shift or control
key to get that done, but I shouldn't have to)

I think keeping a tab open at BL when a user clicks an off site link would be
in the best interest of BL.

Thank you

The situation that I have is that someone asked me a question about a particular
Friends polybag set, but did not provide the set number. So I did a search for
"Friends Polybag":

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?q=friends%20polybag

As you can see, this returned ZERO hits even though there are a ton of different
Friends Polybag sets.

I have always hated the BL search. I also wonder how one knows which sets are
polybags, especially when someone advertises in the forum, how can you visit
their store and find just the polybags?

Since the site is now crawled by the bots, I am wondering how a google search
would work to find things on BL?
