I think it will be ok I am more afraid of stupid changes than of Bricklink's
inertia. I'm not going to participate in this new Bricklink XP they're
developing, and I wish they hadn't come up with that idea. Anyway, as long
as Bricklink is just asleep it's fine by me. It's not dying, just sleeping
It generates money so if anything would happen to it, even the least interested
management would take measures keep it running.

We don't know either but think it may be okay. Many businesses fail because
they do not listen to their customers. That is a serious matter here, but they
have the market pull - thanks to Dan and all the excellent volunteers they have
had over the years. Customers
have a strange habit of going where the products are and BL is probably at the
top of the tree for that.

We won't be signing up for xp either - it isn't aimed at our type of
store - its target is a large one - the 'Soccer Moms' so to speak who
want a set for little Johnny for xmas and do not need the complications of Bricklink
to hamper them. In MP's presentation at Brickworld last year he suggested
an Amazon/Ebay model (we don't know if they have achieved that or not and
his throwaway comments about we will continue to support the classic site don't
fill many of us with enthusiasm, but those are the issues that are known at
present.
We were also informed some time ago that Phase I release was due to come out
in March ((and it didn't make it - rumour has it that Phase 2 will be out
at the end of the year)) so we still have plenty of time to contemplate this
radical change.

Storerooms - we don't use them either but we know people that do. It is,
however, unlikely that you will get any changes to the classic site as MP also
announced nothing more will be done on the classic site due to the fact they
feel xp is the future , they don't understand the 'spaghetti code',
and their
early changes were not met with enthusiasm.

Apparently xp requires Instant Checkout (not a problem for some), also requires
Paypal for Marketplaces (Again not a problem for some) but little else is known
about it. I think generally there is a lack of interest in this latest tangent.
It may appeal to some but large part stores may find it diametrically opposed
to the way they operate. There have been, since the announcement, not many threads
about it so everything may have changed or it may be exactly as they outlined,
we won't really know til it is released, it appears.

Not really convinced that is the best way to get new software accepted and 'taken
up' but it isn't our business to run it is theirs - we are only here
to pay the bills .

How about this for a throwaway line - might not be our (Community) business to
run but then again, maybe it should be

What do you thinK?

I don't get the idea of "multiple stockrooms" in the first place. The way
I see it, it is a binary thing: something can either be for sale or not for sale.
(Maybe a second Schrödinger's stockroom for items that are neither for sale
nor not for sale? )

If I understand it correctly, multiple stockrooms are kind of like tagging items
with remarks. The remarks feature already exists. It's overlapping functionality.
I'm guessing multiple stockrooms are needed for inventory operations that
apply to one tag only, and the remarks field is not available for this operation?
Then Bricklink should have made the remarks field available to that operation.
That way, the whole multiple stockrooms thing could have been abolished and at
the same time you would have kept all the functionality. It's like you can
define an infinite number of "stockrooms", but in your remarks.

(Bricklink's cockpit is abandoned and we're left to our own devices,
it's not like it will change of course.. so I say "could have been" )

I like having multiple stockrooms because I use them for multiple purposes (back-stock,
items temporarily removed from sale, items that have been misplaced and need
to be found, sets I am parting out, sets I am considering parting out, parts
for my own use). I often find myself juggling the stockrooms, and wish I had
more, but I manage with three.

I hadn't considered using remarks to keep things categorized. Thanks for
the tip; I will experiment with it and see if it works for me.

But most importantly, it is sad to think we have no pilot or crew for Bricklink.

Of course if you could filter in the main inventory menu by remarks, this would
become useless.

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Book No: mag2019sw09pl Name: Star Wars Magazine 2019 Issue 9 (Polish)
*
mag2019sw09pl (Inv) Star Wars Magazine 2019 Issue 9 (Polish)
Books: Magazine, Star Wars

* Add 1 Set 911719-1 Kanan Jarrus foil pack (Alternate) (match ID 1)
* Add 1 Set 911834-1 Finn foil pack (Alternate) (match ID 1)
* Add 1 Set 911943-1 Luke Skywalker foil pack (Alternate) (match ID 1)
* Add 1 Set 911837-1 AT-ST foil pack (Alternate) (match ID 1)
* Change 1 Set 911839-1 Obi-Wan Kenobi foil pack {match ID 0 to 1}

Comments from Submitter:
Beside main foil pack (B-wing) in this issue was added second one extra foil pack. In my copy it was Obi-Wan Kenobi which is already in inventory. But in diffrent copies second one foil pack was added different one. Found information on polish blog (in polish unfortunetly) about other possible ones to be found with this issue beside B-wing. So you could buy this magazin with U-wing and second foil pack which could be one of five diffrent ones. Have no idea if there could be more possibilites. Those were confirmed by diffrent people from different parts of country.

Voted no, I prefer to look at all the tiles at once. I lay out all my tiles
and pick out the same patterns, then I will separate later by printed or stickers
for the hard to determine items.

You can isolate parts with stickers from the search results by adding sticker*
to your search terms (to find only parts with stickers) or -sticker* (to filter
out parts with stickers)

You can also use goatleg.com as a shortcut

Yes, I use the above method as I am sure many others do as well. But the crazy
organizing gene in me thinks they should be in different categories. So I
vote for splitting out not only tiles that are stickered and printed, but ALL
decorated parts into stickered parts, and printed parts.

Interesting. Why can printed versions of parts even have different categories
than their parent part? Is there even a case where that is needed? I can think
of one case: 2 x 2 x 2 Slopes with dress prints could go under Minifig,Bodypart
(or better: change the "legs assembly" category in "lower body" and move all
short legs, mermaid tails and ghost lower bodies there too). But even in this
case, those parts are simply "slope".

So if printed parts never even have a different category than their parent part,
why is it apparently needed that these parts are assigned a category manually?
It's just extra work and extra risk of error. In my own webshop's catalog,
the data of the non printed parent part is used as much as possible. That saved
me a whole lot of work.

It's just extra work and extra risk of error. In my own webshop's catalog,
the data of the non printed parent part is used as much as possible. That saved
me a whole lot of work.

The BL database does not 'know' about parent parts. This is something
that we as users understand by trimming the part number, but in the underlying
database, there is no such relation between P=3626cpb2423 and P=3626c. For the
database engine, these are just two unrelated records that happen to be near
each other in alphabetical order. Therefore, the category field is to be filled
separately with every item.

There is a relation in the database that relates P=3626c to P=3626a and P=3626b,
but that is not the relation you seek right now.

With the current database, this functionality of automatically linking categories
to the category of the parent part, is (a little) harder to build. However, it
would have unintended consequences: A quick selection in Excel learns that of
the 40K decorated part, 11K have the same category as their 'parent'
part, 24K have not, and 5K have no parent part defined in the database. This
is mostly because there is a separate category for decorated, but there are more
examples.

There are lots of reasons why something isn’t automatized. The main ones are:
1. You have to realize it’s stupid work.
2. “You can automatize that?!” The users don’t even know they can ask for it
to be done.
3. And, of course, “there’s something else more urgent to do.”

You thought about it because you’re lazy (in a good way ) and you needed to
do the job yourself.

You're probably right, a lot if this may have to do with the fact that catalog
work is unpaid work for Bricklink. Why waste time on making something that's
free less work?

This is why goatleg exists - the flatness of the Bricklink catalog makes it difficult
to find decorated parts because they are all thrown into one jumbled category
at the same level as undecorated parts. If the Bricklink catalog were arranged
with true categories and subcategories that move from the general to the specific,
then decorated parts would be subcategories of their undecorated versions and
would be much easier to find.

I think it would be logical to have that part listed in the main list and not
buried in some alternative list.

Use function "Break minifigs" then you will have every part from minifigs in
the main list.

This part is already included in the alternate items section of the inventory.

I think it would be correct if 63082 part is in the list and then 3730 is in
the alternative list. Take a look at instructions for 7942 set and you will see
that 62082 part is there listed.

Hi

As you know there are 2 versions.
It would be fine if the first release parts are in the inventory, other parts
in the alternate section.
https://www.lego.com/biassets/bi/4502939.pdf
https://www.lego.com/biassets/bi/4586971.pdf

There are a lot of differences between the 1ste and 2nd release. Maybe put all
parts used for the 2nd but not for the 1st in the MID '99'. (as there
are already parts in for the MID 99 in this set)

Comments from Submitter:
The information comes from the opening of a "mint-in-box" unopened set (Samsonite). I opened the set to verify the pieces. I also have info on what "lego logo's" are on the studs, to ensure era-specific correctness if interested.

It's great to get info from unopened sets and that people take their time
to correct old inventory lists. Still, there is a problem. This new inventory
means that the old inventory was crap. I don't think it was. Is it dead certain
that the sets released in for example Europe contained exactly the same parts
as the Samsonite versions? I think that the parts 3009 and 3023 should have remained
as alternate parts. Also, what about the sellers of set 329 having painstakingly
collected the parts in order to sell this set? Now, they need to start the process
all over again. The BL method of inventory list making should allow some variations
which are highly probable.

Hi All,

Maybe a stupid question, but why is the order details on the site the weight
of all items (so Lot weight x items ordered) and if you download it, the weight
of 1 unique lot.

Second, is it possible to have the total estimated weight per order on the Download,
like it's shown online in the order?

This because I like to see/calculate the average price/kg and the average price/piece
for my orders.

If I remember correctly, around 1985.

You remember correctly but the roof 4509 coming with sets 7755 and 7727 in 1983
had part number since its earliest production.

Some old baseplates from 60s or 70s had also part number.

The one or two digit numbers indicate molds and mold cavities in the actual machine
that creates the parts from liquid plastic injection. As far as what year TLC
started putting part numbers on the parts themselves, I'm afraid I do not
know.

David

Part number such as 3001 for a 2x4 brick ? Certainly the older CA parts had that,
so it must have been in the earliest days.

Nita Rae

The CA parts did have mold numbers (5 04) but not the part number (3176)

Thank you all for your replies. I am now going to pose another question - What
are 'CA' parts? Sorry to be so thick.
Linda

Cellulose Acetate plastic, which LEGO phased out in 1963.

Thank you very much. Everyday I learn something new from the forum.

Sets: Pirates: Pirates I

* Change 1 Part Brown {4738a Container, Treasure Chest Bottom - Slots in Back to 4738b Container, Treasure Chest Bottom - No Slots in Back}
* Change 1 Part Brown {4739a Container, Treasure Chest Lid - Thick Hinge to 4739b Container, Treasure Chest Lid - Thin Hinge}

Comments from Submitter:
My set actually contains the old style (B) treasure chest with no back slots and thin hinge. Confirmed by actual inventory and product photos on box/instructions. (Are there alternate versions?)

Hi,

I am very sure that this set came with the "a" variant for two reasons:

1. Set 6273 was produced between 1991 and 1993. Set 6260 was produced between
1989 and 1991 and that set already had the "a" variant (link below).
2. A few years ago, the user 1977_mauro changed the inventory of 6273 and many
other old sets based on sealed set contents (he added extra parts or string lenghts,
for example). As we can see, he has not changed the treasure chest in the inventory
of set 6273 but he has changed it in other inventories. I am sure he would have
also changed it here if he had found the "b" type in his copy.

All in all, the "a" type should stay here but the "b" type can be added as an
alternate if you confirm that you have found it in a sealed set.

Regards,
Jonas

Hello,

thank you very much for your reply. This is very interesting!

I own the entire collection for Pirates I up until 1991 and I got them right
when they came out (all new from sealed boxes). All treasure chests are there
and none of them is the A-type, all are the old B-Type (including set 6260 from
1989).
The picture on the box also shows the B-type (see attachment).

So I guess there really must be alternates for all of these sets.

Kind regards

I realized the lighting in my house in terrible, I tried for many pictures and

Set 3825?

Yeah that's the set, I don't know where I got that other number from.

The set is The Krusty Krab

I had an issue with this set recently. Many of the bricks were brittle, thought
it was brown instead.

Brittle blue is usually from much older sets, but I think something weird happened
with that set.

Yes this is "brittle blue" for sure.

*
523-1 (Inv) Locomotive and Station

Inside the box

Original Box No: 523 Name: Locomotive and Station

There is two identical boxes with parts inside (look that funny rabbit)

Should I add these boxes as alternate picture of original box 523-1 or add as

-Fred

PS: maybe that box exist in catalog, but I do not find them.

+1 for Metallic Copper

I don't know of any part that comes in more than one copper color; without
any overlap, it makes sense to keep all the pearl copper colors together here.

That would be my priority also. I think we need a Metallic Copper.

I have just wondering if anyone knew when Lego started putting the part number
on the pieces. I have just found part 3176 which looks fairly 'new'
but has no part number. It just has the numbers 5 and 04 on the underside.
What do these numbers refer to?
Apologies if this has been asked before - I cannot find a thread.
Thanking you all

The person who inventoried the set confirmed that 3404ac01 should be in this

I have checked many sets. It appears that the turnable 3404c02 was first produced
sometime between 1974-75 and then, it was replaced by 3403c01 in 1976.

It is discolored from age. I think someone calls it "brittle blue". I have
seen this in my inventory, brand new blue bricks turned yellowish, inside and
out. I donate them to schools. Sometimes these blue parts will crack easily,
especially minifig torsos. It's not all blue parts, so some blue parts are
made with a different recipe?

Someone else talked recently that he opened a MIB set from the '90s had a
lot of blue pieces discolored.

It's a known issue, but I'm not sure if anyone knows why.

Put the set number into the list inventory button and see if there are two different
blues listed. What set is it?

The hinge brick is definitely blue - it only comes in one shade of blue (if I've
selcted the right product from the catalogue), so that's got to be it. The
1x3 brick just looks like dark blue to me.

TBF the blue hing brick does look darker than normal blue, but that could be
due to bad light, camera etc.

Do you have any normal blue or dark blue bricks to compare these to?

Ah, I didn't read properly Yes, that should already cause a whole lot
less burden.

Good thing that at least the link to the part out value result page is directly
accessible and editable without having to go through the "get value" button.
That way, at least some of us that have some programming or perhaps Excel or
other skills are able to save a bunch of clicks. Seller tools aren't coming
to it seems we all have to make our own But yes, I think I agree this would
be a good feature.

In Suggestions, speshy writes:

the better function would be a button). Clicking on it would provide the same
function as navigating through Market Price Guide entering the set's
number, then clicking "Get Value". It doesn't need to be information saved
on the page, but if I'm looking at a set on BL and wondering what its part
out value is, I should be able to find out quicker than taking the above steps.

Thanks,

I'm not an expert but I think this would be too heavy for the website. Even
asking 1 part out value the system needs to process all priceguide data of all
parts in that set. If a totally random user would be browsing through 10 sets,
that whole process has to happen 10 times. It's only useful for sellers and
only at those moments that they want to purchase something, so I think it would
be an overkill of constant processing on the server for a small advantage.

Comments from Submitter:
The information comes from the opening of a "mint-in-box" unopened set (Samsonite). I opened the set to verify the pieces. I also have info on what "lego logo's" are on the studs, to ensure era-specific correctness if interested.

It combines LEGO colors 139 Copper, 189 Reddish Gold, 176 Red Flip/Flop (for Bionicle mask 32573 and 32572), 178 Yellow Flip/Flop (for Bionicle Kanohi mask), 346 Copper Metallic, 300 Copper, Drum Lacquered matte copper surface coating, 334 Copper ink (another surface coating).

Wow. 🤯 Why??
Is there an actual reason for this (e.g. parts that overlap between LEGO’s colours,
natural colour-variations that make identification difficult, etc), or is it
just the product of inertia?

When parts are released in a color that is not (yet) included in the Bricklink
catalog, there are two options:
- Add the new color,
- Group the color with an existing color

For all copper colors (both plastic colors and surface coatings), the second
option was chosen even though the appearance of the part can be very different.
This is supposed to make it easier for buyers and sellers. Many sellers will
not be able to accurately identify these colors because they are not used often
enough. These 7 colors were used for less than 50 parts in our catalog.

I have discussed copper with Admins in the past, I think it is time for an update

I just took this set apart over the weekend for the first time since it was built

You made me look, and I have 30389c also.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. But the correct procedure would be
to change the quantity of the existing lot to 2. I have done that for you.

XML is not a file type, it just refers to a way to structure data in plain text.
It only means that item data is placed in between tags with pointy brackets.
A file in XML formatting can have any kind of extension: txt, xls, html, ...

If you need another extension, you can just rename the file. If that doesn't
work, then probably you need something else than an XML formatted file. What
do you need it for?

Thank you.
I am trying to copy my inventory over to Brickowl. They ask for XML files.

Ah yes. I've written my own converter for this. But you can use Brickstock:
Brickstock can read Bricklink xml formatted files, and save them as bsx. That
bsx file should be fit for upload on BrickOwl.
