I just opened my first sealed set ever where every part that is supposed to be
white looks almost exactly like a perfect match for tan or slightly lighter.
It is quite weird to be expecting white parts and seeing everything look tan.
You would never know these parts were ever white by looking at them since the
color is even on all surfaces of every part. Because the set was sealed, it could
not be UV damage due to sunlight as so many sites claim, so some other chemical
process occurs. There must be some sort of breakdown of some additive in the
ABS due to storage conditions of the set (maybe higher temperatures). I don't
know what it is, but I am less than happy with my purchase now.

You read the wrong sites

UVs don’t tan the plastic. UVs accelerate or make possible some chemical reactions
in the plastic.
Other things may accelerate the reactions. And the reactions also occur all
by themselves.

Some additives do react more easily or mode badly than others. That’s what happened
with the old bricks / old ABS.

And yes, UVs can also help “cure” the problem because it helps oxydation reactions,
which are also greatly helped by the presence of free oxygen, like when the parts
are soaking in peroxyde.

  I don't know.

Do you have black ones and brown ones? Can you check to see if this holds true
for at least all the black ones?

Nope. I have none. Dark Ages.

If the sets that use them are using them differently, — that is, if they aren’t
substitutable —, the variant would really be necessary. It wouldn’t be the first
time TLG thought better about making a part “in System,” like

Part No: 4081 Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Light Attachment (Undetermined Type)
*
4081 Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Light Attachment (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Plate, Modified
Marked for Deletion

or

Part No: 4623 Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Bar Arm Up (Undetermined Type)
*
4623 Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Bar Arm Up (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Plate, Modified

I wanted to look at the building instructions to look for a mathematical necessity
for the change, but there are some 14 sets that use them, so knowing from which
sets they came from would have narrowed the search.

On the other hand, another possibility simply is that some are not LEGO

The four black ones and one brown one are about a plates width shorter. I can't
be the first one to notice this!

Do you know which sets they come from?

It would be interesting to check if something changed in their uses, mathematically
speaking.

  Hi Studio Devs,
thanks for adding rigid hose flex feature
i am actually trying that new feature and cant seem to make it work on that type
of projet (attached picture)
looks like the tip of the hose wont follow camera orientation. it is always facing
my mouse cursor in all camera modes/orientation. That said, i just cant plug
the tip of the hose in the proper way as you can see on the picture. Maybe i
need tips on that to make it work.
Keep doing a great job on studio

First, the dedicated forum for Studio is http://forum.bricklink.com/ (which,
despite the generic name, isn’t this one).

Then, you can simply rotate the hose’s head with the arrow keys (shift for 45°
increments).

  Goodmorning everyone!
Set 71040: are there 2 versions? I noticed that the front box "type 1" under
the word "16+" has:
- the number of pieces
- the word "building toy"
- has 7 minifig.
The front box type 2 does NOT have the number of pieces and does not have the
word "building toy"; has 5 minifig.
Are there any fakes?
Also on the small side where there are minifigs in the type 2 box there are no
small writings.
Thanks as always for the info.

Set No: 71040 Name: Disney Castle
*
71040-1 (Inv) Disney Castle
4043 Parts, 7 Minifigures, 2016
Sets: Disney

Original Box No: 71040 Name: Disney Castle
*
71040-1 Disney Castle
Original Boxes: Disney

Maybe just a US / EU difference on the boxes: number of parts is an obligation
in the USA, it’s rarely on EU boxes.

For the minifigures, 5 are Disney characters, 2 are statues. They just decided
the statues weren’t real minifigures after all.

There might be other differences in the production runs: newer variants, different
extra parts….

At least, for now, no one has come and said the inventory was wrong

  Hi,
I hope this is the right place to post this.
I think it would be a good thing to be able to set the maximum number of stores
used to fulfill a wanted list search of matching stores in order to have a good
compromise between items costs and shipping costs.
Since shipping costs can't be taken in count during stores automatic selection,
you could add a parameter "max N° of stores" so that we can compair a result
with 10 stores and very low pieces costs and 2 stores with more high pieces costs.
Sometime shipping costs from many stores override high pieces costs from 1 or
2 stores.
hope is clear enough

First, it has been said that the algorithm has a (mysterious) way to include
shipping costs in its calculations.

Then, at a time there were up to three options for Auto-Select:
1. minimize price,
2. minimize number of stores,
3. “best” price (we never could get an answer about what “best” meant).

And they were removed because they didn’t work as advertized and there were “funny”
results (“min stores” cheaper than “min price” or “min price” with fewer stores
than “min stores” and such).

IOW, I doubt BL could implement your suggestion.

Moreover, it has been said several times that development on this website is,
at best, frozen.
So, if I were you, I wouldn’t hold my breath for that suggestion to be even considered.

Set No: 4883 Name: Gear Grinders

273 Parts, 2005
Sets: Designer Sets: Traffic

"gear grinders" creator set, 4 red pieces ref 45677 are needed on
the paper instruction (see my photo). And 5 are needed on the Bricklink Inventory.
As it is a creator, with different building options, the exact needed number
is not easy to know. All i know is that 4 of these red pieces are enough to build
each of the suggested buiding options in the instruction. But separately, one
after the other. I don't know if TLG designed this set as being able to build
several "gear grinders" at the same time ? ... Another member owns this set ?
Good sunday to all of you !!

Brickset (= more or less LEGO) agrees with BrickLink to reach 273 pieces in total,
so, unless another part is wrong, it looks correct.

Note that the 5th part was changed to extra on February, 16th 2012, and changed
back to regular on the 19th.
Unfortunately, we can’t see the messages accompanying the changes anymore

If 3229 = 3229a and 3230 = 3230a.
Then they should merge into 3229 and 3230.
There are no reason to leave them with the "a" version.
If we in the future discovery a different version of the Blue Curved Rail, then
we have a reason to have the "a" and a "b" version again.

‘b’ doesn’t exist in Blue but it exists in Light Gray.
That’s the reason why ‘a’ and ‘b’ versions exist.

‘not-a-not-b’ should have been ‘u’ndetermined, and then deleted.
