I was bored. That's how I found myself here. But I don't know how to
find the set that still needs correcting. When I search, I get all the sets
that have that piece within the combined piece.

  Hello,

Does anyone know what colour is the sword in the middle? I was sold to me as
metallic gold but looks different from my own mg which is the left one (right
one is copper). Or is it just a color variation?

Thanks,
Alexandre

Metallic Gold is a BrickLink color referring to a plain part (usually made in
Tan) that has had a coating applied to it. The coating is only applied to ABS
parts, and these swords were not made with ABS. My guess is that they were made
from polyethylene. Therefore, the first thing to realize is that none of them
are Metallic Gold.

The center one is definitely LEGO color Warm Gold, which is Pearl Gold on BrickLink.
The left one looks too light to me to be BrickLink's Flat Dark Gold (LEGO's
Metallic Sand Yellow), so it is probably just a Pearl Gold variation.

Cheers,
Randy

Thank you for your reply.

However it makes me even more confused. The sword on the left is exactly (and
I mean, exactly) the same color as the viking helmet which is said to be metallic
gold. How can it be another color then? That sword in mg appears in several sets
according to the BL catalog and very different from the one in the middle (the
texture is different, more "solid", don't know how to say it).
Also, I compared all these swords with pearl gold parts and if I remember well,
the colors did not match.

Thanks,
Alexandre

Here is an image of parts in BrickLink Metallic Gold:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/15218053575/

Notice that none of them are molded from gold-colored plastic. They have a gold
paint applied to them through a drum lacquering process. On a flexible part like
the swords in question, the painted coating would flake off upon bending the
part. That is why this process (and in effect BrickLink color) is not used on
flexible parts.

Now, here is an image of parts in BrickLink Pearl Gold:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/15211982695/

Notice that all of these parts are molded from gold-colored plastic.

It is very easy to tell which is which due to the texture of the part and how
they reflect light. However, the easiest way to tell is usually looking underneath
the painted parts to see that their undersides do not get completely covered
in paint.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to official LEGO sources, this particular sword was made in the following
colors:

(1) LEGO METALLIC SAND BLUE (BrickLink Metal Blue)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/14908529407/

(2) LEGO REDDISH GOLD / GOLD METALLIC (Lumped into BrickLink Copper but *not*
BrickLink Copper)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/14948075737/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/15056373636/

Notice the huge difference between these two colors that are both listed as Copper
on BrickLink.

(3) LEGO BRIGHT YELLOW = BrickLink Yellow

(4) LEGO METALLIC SAND YELLOW = BrickLink Flat Dark Gold

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/14908616158/

(5) LEGO BRIGHT RED = BrickLink Red

(6) LEGO SILVER = split between BrickLink Pearl Light Gray *and* BrickLink Flat
Silver

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/15076958255/

(7) LEGO BLACK = BrickLink Black

(8) LEGO WARM GOLD = BrickLink Pearl Gold

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/15211982695/

(9) LEGO NEW DARK RED = BrickLink Dark Red

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, LEGO only used nine colors to make the part. However, BrickLink inventories
list 11 colors. Why the difference? Because the Flat Silver ones and Pearl Light
Gray ones are considered the same color according to LEGO, and the Metallic Gold
ones are not really Metallic Gold but some varitaion of Pearl Gold. In other
words, there is a lot of work that needs to be done on BrickLink to fix up some
of the colors and inventories.

In any case, browse through the pictures above and see which one closest matches
your swords.

HTH,
Randy

I know of no sets in which these hinges came unassembled. The parts list on
the box shows them assembled (photo attached). The fact that they are unassembled
in the inventory can be attributed to the fact that the person who inventoried
the set had a thing for breaking parts down into their smallest units in inventories.

If anyone is bored and is interested in finding it, there is only one more set
in the catalog which shows the hinge unassembled. I have no idea which set it
is, but it also needs to be corrected.

completly smooth. Also the metallic gold version is a tiny bit darker.

Am i wrong here ?

Its for the 20 Tooth Gear Double Bevel with Clutch on Both Sides.
looking at the Color it seems to be a grayish color likely Light Bluish Gray.

I have no idea in wich Set it might appear I guess in Sets from 2019.
The Item was previously only found in the 42083 Bugatti Chiron in a Blue color.

The Video was uploaded on the Official Lego Youtube Channel just Minuets ago.
See for your self:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsXD1pZyIBU

Let's see what Lego plans for the upcoming Year and what parts we might see.
I hope we get another Set that uses the 35188 Orange Technic Changeover Rotary
Catch since the 42083 used both of them.

Maybe we even get a new series for Kids involving Mechanics that has some parts
to create Gear boxes and stuff.

See you around

Okay, now I'm confused. I thought the handle itself comes on a sprue, meaning
it would not have been assembled on the bucket. Was this not the case for some
sets?

Nope

5840 came with the handle on a sprue. 5860 and 5870 came unassembled but with
no sprue. Some Belville set came with it assembled, but I lost track of which.

Sets: Time Cruisers / Twisters

Nice catch on this error which had been in the inventory for nearly 14 years.
The box and instructions both show the transparent light blue part, but I went
the extra step of verifying this with a YouTube review video in which the set
was removed directly from sealed contents and built.

Comments from Submitter:
This balances the piece count. Pic to follow. Bucket and handle are in the same bag, but other Belville sets actually come with them assembled. This one COULD have been assembled in 1994 when it went in the bad, I will admit. Another note, if it is interesting, mine doesn't have either of the extra parts.

A good rule: If it looks like yellowed Bley, it is (probably) Old Grey.

Yes, please

The second route we could go is to include all of the existing part assemblies
in the catalog in inventories. That opens the door to many more part assemblies
being added to the catalog and to inventories. My concern with that approach
is that eventually you fill up inventories (and the catalog) with part assemblies
- especially when you consider stickered/printed assemblies, assembly color variations,
and part variant assemblies.

For assemblies the color combinations and part variants are indeed a difficult
issue. Can't think of an easy solution for that. Something like a 'not
applicable' color and then add a comment to describe the colors (or variants)?
This would work for selling the parts, but I don't know if the comment field
is available in inventories.

Why not create a new option in inventories? Something like 'assembled parts
and pairs' This would include the wheel/tyre combination, the assembled hinges,
stickers over assembly, etc.

Something like this would be my preference also.
This section could work exactly like the current counterparts, but under a different
category heading and with a different definition. All the current exceptions
to the counterparts could go in this category.

This would NOT include full assemblies of subsets (like a train wagon or a car).
These go in the 'special assembly' (or subset) option .

Keep the counterparts option for the stickered parts, strings, hoses as per your
new definition.

And because of the many options in inventories that would be available then.
Make it possible to hide certain of these options when viewing or printing the
inventory.

OK thanks for this photo that is the proof I can accept
sw880 can be altarnate in this watch set with old artwork.
But shouldn't be new variant of Luke added to the catalog with tan hair sw880a?
and as an alternate second minifig to this inventory?

Can you add photos of these boxes as alternate photos to this watch set?

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 1514 Name: Basic Building Set Trial Size
*
1514-1 (Inv) Basic Building Set Trial Size
42 Parts, 1988
Sets: Universal Building Set: Basic

* Delete 2 Part 3040 Trans-Clear Slope 45 2 x 1

Comments from Submitter:
I have two newly opened copies of this set and it does not contain two Trans Clear Slope elements number 3040, the inventory printed on the box makes a 1 x 2 Trans Clear Brick look like a 1 x 2 Trans Clear Slope.

I bought them specifically for these Trans Clear slope elements that turned out not to be present due to an inventory error.

Be aware that the 'Brittle Blue' isn't an official LEGO or BrickLink
colour, but is a colour that has been noticed to have occured in the turn of
the century 2000-2003, and the composition of the plastic that this blue is in
is actually more 'Brittle' than the normal plastic, hence the name.

I have actually seen this colour across quite a few elements, including the 2x4
brick.

Earlier this year I was searching for this colour in a 2x4 for my palette, and
had to buy one from an European Seller, and when it arrived, I was so chuffed....

BUT....

Last week, I found one in a Bulk Lot of LEGO that I'd bought in February,
so I could have saved myself some money.... !

Ah well....

Paul

I have been finding lots of this blue when sorting, and throwing them away! And
considering I spent quite a lot of time on my colour chart and the 2x4 collection
I’m surpised I never saw it mentioned before!

If you ever notice that assonance and alliteration have appeared of their own
accord in what you've written, then you're probably a little too familiar
with poetry. I do consider it rather a pity that poetry is pretty much dead.
Perhaps one day it will be fashionable again.

Or perhaps that's not how it's done? I notice that this part has an
orange render even though it never came in orange and none are for sale in orange:

Part No: 2429c01 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 4 Swivel (2429 / 2430)
*
2429c01 (Inv) Hinge Plate 1 x 4 Swivel (2429 / 2430)

Either way, just letting you guys know that inventory additions are complete
for the hinge in which the top and bottom colors are the same.

*
3937c01 (Inv) Hinge Brick 1 x 2 with (Same Color) Top Plate (3937 / 3938)
Parts: Hinge

I have finished adding this part to all the sets in which it appears. There
were a handful of sets, less than 10, to which the part assembly could not be
added because the correct color combination could not be determined. Most, if
not all, of these were E&D sets in which the assembly appears in common (but
uncertain) colors.

Now that the whole picture is clear, images in the following five colors may
be removed if desired because they do not appear in sets:

Dark gray
Dark red
Brown
Tan
Orange

I think that a short explanation in the additional notes would be good.

3003old is an odd duck if you ask me. 3002old and 3001old do not have Inside
Supports mentioned in the name but they do exist with Inside Supports (at least
3001old does). 3003 however does not exist without Cross Supports, still they
created a 3003old as if it were somehow similar as 3002old and 3001old but it
is not. I have missed the creation of 3003old so there might be a perfectly valid
reason for it but imo so far it creates more confusion, as can be noted with
your question as example.

On the other hand, it is hardly doable to be complete on this matter. More differences
do exist and differences combinations as well. Where does it end?

Interesting to learn the answer too

The top plates for red hinges in this set were changed at some point during set
production. Two versions of set instructions exist. I've added a note to
the set's inventory, but I'm wondering if the inventory incorrectly shows
the chronological order for the hinges.

Common sense says that the 1 x 2 top plate came first and they replaced it with
a 2 x 2 top plate for added stability, but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm
which version of the set came first before making that change.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I don't see why. You've provided ample evidence that this inventory
had numerous errors. In fact, I'm not entirely sure why we're keeping
those alternate parts.

If your set came with a brown-haired dude, then I say let's get rid of the
black-haired dude. If he really did come in the set, then let someone prove
it and we can add it back.

So...I opened a sealed set and these aren't there. And they aren't on the parts list on the side of the box. Not really, anyway. But I think I can explain it.

The parts list looks like it has some dark and light gray pieces on it. But the dark gray pieces are really black. The set (and this inventory) has trans-clear 1x2 bricks and the light gray bricks on the parts list are THOSE. The clear ones were not in the first draft of our inventory. Someone added them later, but did not delete the light gray. There are some trans-clear windows in the parts list that show the same light gray. I think it was just a mistake.

I neglected to mention before, the instructions show how to build 3 different
models with the pieces and nowhere does a light gray brick appear.

Set No: 4546 Name: Road and Rail Maintenance
*
4546-1 (Inv) Road and Rail Maintenance
73 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1991
Sets: Train: 9V

The top plates for red hinges in this set were changed at some point during set
production. Two versions of set instructions exist. I've added a note to
the set's inventory, but I'm wondering if the inventory incorrectly shows
the chronological order for the hinges.

Common sense says that the 1 x 2 top plate came first and they replaced it with
a 2 x 2 top plate for added stability, but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm
which version of the set came first before making that change.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Is there a light blue somewhere in between those two?

Thanks

Ah well....

I uploaded a pic for this on the other request. I thought I needed to add this to the catalog, but then I found it. I don't have the set count all figured out yet, but I assume this change will be needed to get it corrected.

I think the time may be right to start putting this part back into inventories.
It is officially the only part on a sprue in the entire catalog which is still
being excluded from all inventories (with the sole exceptions of three of these
parts which cannot be added to inventories because of limitations in the system:

[P=28628c01pb01]

I'll leave this request open for a few days to give someone the chance to
object. If no one does and if I don't hear differently from above (or from
Marek), then your requested changes will be approved.

I don't have any objections if we have all other on supres already in the
sets inventories so why not this one. Especially we want regular part of inventories
to be exactly as it was in new seald set.

* Change 1 Minifig {belvFem17 Belville Female - White Shorts, Pink Shirt, Light Yellow Hair to belvFem18 Belville Female - White Shorts, Purple Shirt, Light Yellow Hair - Belville #5808}

Photos clearly show that you have right and current doll in this set is wrong.
But there is something more messed in this set, in counterpart section there
is this one listed:
[m=belvFem17a] and it is only in this set, so it seems that this assembly with
pink skirt dosn't occur at all, it is wrong and should be deleted from the
catalog.

[m=belvFem17] only occur then in this set

and it is with pink skirt

In this set should be this assembly
[m=belvFem18a] from set

Set No: 5808 Name: The Enchanted Palace
*
5808-1 (Inv) The Enchanted Palace
209 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 1999

it is exactly the same skirt

* Delete 4 Part 4624 White Wheel 8mm D. x 6mm
* Add 1 Part 3942b Red Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Blocked Open Stud (match ID 1)

* Change 8 Part Brown {2536 Plant, Tree Palm Trunk - Undetermined Type to 2536b Plant, Tree Palm Trunk - Short Connector, no Axle Hole}
* Change 1 Part Red 3942c Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Completely Open Stud {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 1}
* Change 1 Part Red 4491a Horse Saddle with One Clip {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 2}
* Change 2 Part White {2453 Brick 1 x 1 x 5 - Undetermined Stud Type to 2453a Brick 1 x 1 x 5 - Blocked Open Stud / Hollow Stud}

Comments from Submitter:
There is at least one more change, but this is a good start.

1-3) The wheels come assembled
4) There was no undetermined palm section. Just a bunch of Bs
5-6) The original inventory had blocked open stud. Someone changed it to completely open, but mine agrees with the original, so I propose restoring the original and changing open to alternate.
7,9) Sadly I got a 2 clip saddle, not a 1. And the part list on the box shows 2 clips as well. So I propose making 2 the regular and 1 the alternate.
8) No undetermined pieces in the box.

What is the source of your inventory? A brand new set which you yourself opened
or a used set?

Sorry I was assuming that I can add more change rows to the request but somehow
I triggered it.

Basically what I wanted is that I am doing my inventory and I do not have any
a variants of 4275 and 4276, so I am pretty sure that there must be an alternate
set with b variants of 4275 and 4276.

Thanks for approving. I noticed that Boba Fett (sw977) hasn’t been approved,
is there any reason for this?

This might help to compare, I always find it useful to keep stacks of colour
