If I remember it right, this is how it was before.
Today I received another request to unblock a member. I don't want messages
from member I stoplisted, for they are stoplisted for a very good reason.

I am stoplisted by some sellers I never had any transaction with, not as seller,
not as a buyer. It's very annoying when I spend a lot of time searching for
parts and fill my shopping cart and then get the message that I can't buy
from this seller.

Use the least favorite store option and it solves your problem...

No, it does not (not for me and for sure not for the OP either):

- I can access the store that's on my stop list, all I get is a very(!) tiny
"thumbs down" (facebook lookalike) symbol in the tob bar, next to the "Favorite
Stores" pulldown menu.

- I can access the store from the price guide* and there's no way to exclude
least favorite stores from the price guide (only listings flagged as "incomplete"
can be filtered)

- The first time I get an obvious indication that I'm trying to shop in a
store that blocked me is when I open my shopping basket/cart: "Seller Refuses
Service".

That's WAY to late - and it has been much better before the site update:

I could not even browse a store that blocked me, and on top I got a brick wall
symbol in the ID card of every seller that blocked me(instead of the green/red
box indicating if the seller ships to my country or not).

That's clearly worsening the buying experience - period.

Jan

*P.S.: IMHO, the filter option for the search function should be applied to the
price guide as well - many users (like me) are starting with the price guide
when shopping, not with the search function.

It hasn't worked in 18 months...I am stoplisted by some but I can send them
messages and go into their stores.

I may very well do that, though I hate to commit to anything and then never get
it finished. The one issue with the pdf that kept me from using it exclusively
is that the photos are not great. I linked to photos in this thread because they
were too large to add to the post, but yet I wanted people to examine the scans
as closely as I have.

  viejos,

My parents brought home an 853 from their trip to the USA. Apparently the 853
has also been sold in the USA! According to your pictures it was an 'early
production' version. I got it for my birthday 1st of may 1977.

It also had the sheet for improved steering unit, but the box lacked the parts
needed. Also the instructions showed the 3 extra blue 1x2 plates for the engine,
but again the box lacked the parts. Also, even for my present building skills,
the building steps for the engine are just plain wrong: it can't be built
like pictured. The instructions were the fold-out poster version.

Still, the 850, 851 and 853 were my first technic sets and really got enthusiastic
for Lego Technic.

Jan.

The engine is certainly the oldest part of the model, and I do believe it underwent
changes over time. There is evidence to suggest it was designed after the 1 x
6 plate was created, but before the 1 x 4 plate. Hence the use of so many 1 x
2 plates.

Alternatively, the front of the engine could have originally had a 2 x 4 brick
instead of the fan rotor assembly. Hard to tell without some firsthand information
from TLG.

I've built the motor several times from the early instructions, and I have
2 copies of them. So I don't know what to say about the difficulties you
are experiencing. The construction is identical to that shown in the A4 booklet
instructions, but the booklet has step inventories and things are spread out
a bit more. So maybe you should try building with those instructions (available
on Peeron or Brickfactory) and see how it turns out.

These two bricks never came in the set. They are actually the minifigure legs which are placed behind the torso in a couple of models.

Hello,
The BrickLink names for these rubber bands are very misleading. Lego lists part
70905 in this set which is our x90. Please measure the part you found. Is the
diameter closer to 26mm or 33mm?

Thanks!
Jen

The rubber belt in this set is a x89 not a x90.

You can't stop someone from logging out and going into your store, so they
can get in no matter what. Being able to send messages from a block account
is a new one though.

I don't have any problems with stoplisted members visiting my store. But
as a buyer I want to know that I'm stoplisted by a seller before I go shopping
in that store. It's not as urgent as my second suggestion, but believe it
or not. There's this seller that Always pops up when I'm looking for
certain parts and after I filled my cart, Bricklink says that I can't buy
from this seller. I'm stoplisted and I don't know why, because I never
bought from nor sold to this member. Like I said, it's not that urgent, but
before it was like this, so changing it to the way it used to be, wouldn't
be that difficult imo.

That definitely wasn't like that before.

Use the least favorite store option and it solves your problem...

Why should it be clearer than it already is?

  We even have our
own sets/parts database at playmodb.org
But this community lacks a global and well-organized marketplace like Bricklink.
So why not expand? It would be a bit of work from the Bricklink team's part,
but adapting Bricklink's framework to Playmobil products should be doable,
especially if you use the playmodb database which would spare you quite some
trouble.

I'm not sure they have what they need in terms of the catalogue. Are the
community willing to give up this catalogue to a commercial organisation, for
them to shut off access to it by anyone else that wants to use it commercially?
One of the first things BL owners did when buying BL was to lock down the catalogue.

Maybe you meant to use the Bricklink "engine" for other brands (e.g. Playmobil),
but not necessarily Bricklink itself.

I agree completely with all of you, my suggestion is just a suggestion, it doesn't
have to be implemented tomorrow.
Bricklink works very well for me so I don't really see what you want to improve,
but I don't use this website that much and I understand it's not perfect.
Thanks for your input!

Not necessarily a bad idea, although I would have no interest in off-brand collectibles

More than agreed +++++

I agree.

Currently (and in my opinion) here is not enough customer support to get this
site working properly. If they would have to divide attention to several subsites,
then customer support would be even more understaffed and overloaded.

I think I proposed blocklink in the past

Comments from Submitter:
The early version of this set (with foldout instructions) has a slightly different steering assembly. Details attached in the following post.

I started the project of fixing this inventory shortly after becoming a BrickLink
member in 2008, and today it has finally been completed! The box I had at the
time showed a different steering system, and I could never reconcile the 590
piece count no matter what way the wheels or other parts were counted. In fact,
I ended up adding pieces to the inventory, making the discrepancy even more noticeable.

As I dug deeper, I discovered four distinct versions of the set - two prototpye
versions, and two production versions. The inventory changes above reflect the
production versions. It's interesting to see that the parts "removed" from
the inventory for the later production version are present in the Extras section
(2 axle 4's and 2 spacers).

Below I have put together a presentation, complete with images, to illustrate
my theory on how all the evidence fits together. Expert Builder enthusiasts,
please feel free to download this information and test it out!

Russell

_____________________________________________________________

TIMELINE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SET 853 / 956 AUTO CHASSIS

(approx. 150 parts / pre-construction, 1976) - A new Technic system is
developed from the existing Gears system, and the first 4 set numbers are assigned
(850, 851, 852, 853). A core inventory of parts is developed for the flagship
model, the Auto Chassis: 100+ technic parts plus a token number of 1 x 4 and
1 x 6 plates, both new parts in 1977. A balanced selection of technic parts plus
standard elements of the type used in the Hobby theme are available as needed
to complete construction.

(577 parts / “catalog” prototype, 1976) - The Auto Chassis prototype is
built, with an old-school steering mechanism made from Technic plates. Conspicuously
absent is the spacer immediately under the steering wheel and the one right at
the nose of the engine on the “fan”. Also absent are three blue 1 x 2 plates
on the top of the engine block, between the cylinders. The parts from the prototype
model are used to build several alternate models - a dragster, jeep, semi, lathe,
and scissor lift. None of the alternate models have working steering. Photos
are taken of these models, and early catalogs and ads containing these photos
are sent to press. See BL large image of set 956:

Set No: 956 Name: Auto Chassis
*
956-1 (Inv) Auto Chassis
602 Parts, 1978
Sets: Technic: Expert Builder
(590 parts / “box” prototype, 1976) - The 2 x 2 turntable is invented
to enable steering at a smaller scale, and a complete set of 6 turntables is
added to the official parts list of the Auto Chassis set. A spacer on the steering
column is also added and another on the front of the “cooling system fan” axle.
Another spacer is added to each steering wheel axis, and three blue 1 x 2 plates
are added to the engine block. An alternate model using the turntables goes into
development: the “Go-Cart” model, the informal predecessor of the famous blue
Go-Cart, set 854.

Set No: 854 Name: Go-Kart
*
854-1 (Inv) Go-Kart
206 Parts, 1978
Sets: Technic: Expert Builder
At this point (590 parts) the boxes for both European and US versions go into
production. Many of the box images, both photos and drawings, were generated
during the previous stage of development.

(597 parts / early production, 1977) - The steering in the main model
is reworked to use turntables, adding six parts: two 2 x 2 plates and four 1
x 2 technic bricks. A 1 x 4 blue plate is also added, presumably as a redundant
part. Instructions for the Auto Chassis and Go-Cart are drawn in the old-style
foldout format, with no step inventories. The difficult assembly process is used
as a “positive” in marketing materials. Set 853 goes into production with 597
regular parts and 12 extras.

Set No: 853 Name: Auto Chassis
*
853-1 (Inv) Auto Chassis
602 Parts, 1977
Sets: Technic: Expert Builder
(606 parts / late production, 1978) - The steering system is modified
again, adding another 9 parts: 8 for the wheel axes plus an additional pin in
the steering column support. Four parts (two 4 length axles and two spacers)
are “removed” from the official build but are still included in the set, allowing
backwards compatibility with previous versions, the diagrams and photos of which
are still preserved on the box. Along with the 9 additional parts, a special
instruction sheet is included, showing how to rebuild the steering system with
the provided parts.

After the supply of the old-style foldout instructions is exhausted, Lego produces
a new set of instructions bound in an A4-size booklet, with simplified building
sequences and step inventories for the main model. These instructions only show
the newest way of building the steering mechanism. The set continues to be distributed,
now with 606 regular parts and 12 extras.

The US version, set 956, is released for distribution. For whatever reason (patent,
copyright, or otherwise) US boxes were never updated and always showed a piece
count of 590. European boxes had no piece count.

  Hello,

I hope someone from the Bricklink team reads me.
Here is my suggestion: why not expand Bricklink towards Playmobil products?
While the AFOP community isn't quite as vibrant as the AFOL community, there
are many adult fans of Playmobil out there (including me) who have been sharing
and buying/selling for years now on different internet forums. We even have our
own sets/parts database at playmodb.org
But this community lacks a global and well-organized marketplace like Bricklink.
So why not expand? It would be a bit of work from the Bricklink team's part,
but adapting Bricklink's framework to Playmobil products should be doable,
especially if you use the playmodb database which would spare you quite some
trouble. And it ultimately would mean more money for you.
I'd very much like you to consider this project. If playmolink or klicklink
or whatever its name was ever created, I'd certainly be the first to set
up shop and do publicity on your behalf to the AFOP community.
Thank you for your attention and have a nice day

While I believe many users on here are fans of Playmobil, I believe the users
who aren't (including myself) would become frustrated if all of a sudden
BrickLink decide to put its focus on developing a Playmobil marketplace, instead
of focussing on instant checkout, and many other features that could greatly
improve this site.

Just my thoughts,
M.Boss

While today Playmobil is more and more going Fisher Price-y, I think the old
sets were much more creative. For exeample, I'm a medieval/knights collector
and the possibilities are endless with the sets from the 90s and noughties, especially
regarding castle building.
I agree completely that Lego and Playmobil are not the same, I never implied
that. That's why I talked about separating the two marketplaces in the event
a marketplace for Playmobil with a Bricklink-style framework is ever created.

Yes, I like that idea! Because Bricklink is definitely very well-organized and
clear, so why not use that framework for more collectibles ?

switch from the Lego version to the Playmobil version, for example.
That's it really, nobody is going to soil your precious Lego with all these
disgusting Playmobil.

Oh my god calm down, I never said it should happen here, I only said the Bricklink
team has the necessary tools/means to do it imo. Of course it could be on another
website (I did mention the names playmolink or kilcklink, if you readproperly)
and I think it should. Or there could be a button on the top of the website to
switch from the Lego version to the Playmobil version, for example.

Please no. This is 'BrickLink: an unofficial Lego marketplace.' Start
a different marketplace for other brands.

Wouldn't be against those running BL opening other similar sites for other
products/brands, not really my business, i wouldn't want to see them sold
on here.

Happy to see a site for Kiddicraft or a combined site for brands other than Lego.
