that was one of my favorite features. I used it so that I could remember which
stores sold quality good, which falsely sell used items as new, shipping costs,
etc. without it i will now place less orders as that confidence is now gone as
I no longer can see notes about the store that I left, they were private notes
not accessible to anyone so I'm not sure why its removed due to
"Because our team

its the same as when I stop list a user and add a note as to why I stop listed
them. very sad
Notes on members is a vital page - where we can make notes on how specific buyers
prefer orders shipped, etc. *** PLEASE RECONSIDER REMOVING THIS ***
Assuming the "Orders Placed Old" is the old classic view orders - the
new view is awful! It takes up way too much space on the screen, has too much
unused space and there is not enough difference between the font colors. Not
to mention the brightness is headache inducing. Lots of members prefer the the
old style - it is concise and actually fits on the page without having to scroll.

It seems like they weren’t not that private and not just viewable by us
You are extrapolating. Anything that we submitted to BrickLink has been visible
to the BrickLink staff, but it isn't a breach of privacy as long as they
don't republish this data elsewhere.
Now if the staff can't be trusted not to handle this data confidentially,
what are we doing here? Hiding the submission forms won't change a thing

This is very very disappointing !!!
The new lay-out is not nice to work with. As earlier discussed. It takes way
to much space.
Also the notes on members page is essential to recognize what gifts I added to
the order and what my experiences are with that user.
I realy don't get the point why not fixing an issue in stat of deleting the
problem.
Yes the enormes white lines between the words are intentional. To show how easy
the new layout reads. Try to read the text above without scrolling and find out
how easy it is.

favourite stores are on the list are very important. If I cannot tell why I added

What? How is private Favorite text and private notes on members a privacy issue?
Some stores are in my fav for sets only or good used parts, know I don't
know which is which...
Also as a Seller I have saved valuable information for my buyers that I see in
their member note when they order, like packing 1 lot per bag, their Business
address for the LEGAL invoice I have to make that is different that the shipping
address as BrickLink doesn't provide different ones like the rest of marketplaces
and eshops...
Or the phone number of the buyer for the shipping as Bricklink removed the r3
version of the address book that was the only place to update your phone field...
And I could go on...
Please, talk with the daily users of this site before REMOVING things... And
If you have to do, announce a deprecation date so we can at least save the data,
and better offer an alternative...
I didn't even check before but this is indeed note a notice, the fields have
already disappeared, what a terrible move.

Those of us who stuck with the old 'classic' view for so long did so
with good reason, the new one was badly designed and nothing has been done to
improve it.
Removing not only the old view but also an important feature like notes on members

Yep, "even better" - you really are mind readers, aren't you
The usual arrogant, condescending attitude from Bricklink. Again, I am so happy
I moved most of my business off this platform, so I don't have to care so
much. Can live with the downgrade, it's a small thing, but it's this
culture of not taking the people who pay your wages seriously and treating them
like fools that would really get to me.
Taking agency from users isn't improving their data privacy. In particular,
all the fields that were only shown to the user who wrote them aren't a privacy
concern.
This is a terrible decision that makes both buyers and sellers experience worse
on BricLink while improving data privacy for no one.
Is it just because these fields could potentially look bad if there was a data
breach? If this is your idea of security why not shutter the whole website? No
website, no data to steal!
This is a terrible decision which makes alternative selling platform look better.

Don't give them any ideas. I really think that is what the executive in charge
of Bricklink wants. No more sellers, just the BDP.

Well that would be the best scenario wouldn't it? The entire community with

The only thing that's amazing and special about Bricklink is the community.
Without it, it's just a flawed website with poor support.

Aside from just looking different, what actual differences are there between
the old and new orders received / placed pages? I too also by far prefer the
old views but if there really are good reasons for the change then oh well, so
be it.

First rule of website redesigns; it never goes back to the way it was. I went
ahead and just embraced it back when they first rolled this out so I didn't
understand the hubbub when people brought it up yesterday.

I was reading through mine before they are gone. I found one from 2015 that reads:
sexist jerk crazy vengeful guy
That must have been quite the conversation that I no longer even remember. lol
I guess once the private Notes have been erased (you know, for privacy)
then I will have to learn the lesson to avoid that member over and over again
instead of just the once.
Seriously though... most of my Notes were things like: "Write order number
on outside of package." "Check PO BOX number." "Prefers box to
bubble mailer"

They don’t read Me pages, and those are public (and, last it was discussed, full
of spam).
They don’t read Me pages, and those are public (and, last it was discussed, full
of spam).
And yet these About Me pages weren't part of this soft purge? Not that I
would be elated by such a move, but it would make more sense and disturb my workflow
less than the disappearance of the Most/Least Favorite Store comments which were
actually private.
Now I have to have a separate spreadsheet for this, if only there was a way in
BrickLink to have a field only accessible to the user where they could easily
leave this kind of notes next to the Store name!
What's also odd is that the look of the new orders view varies so different
from all the other BrickLink pages - the formum, messages, inventory, etc. -
that it's *SO* jarring when switching between tabs.
We routinely work on 3-5 BL tabs at any given time and it is very noticeable
how different the order page looks.
PLEASE BRING BACK THE ABILITY TO SWITCH TO THE OLD CLASSIC VIEW!
BrickLink does NOT need to monitor open text fields that are PRIVATE to the relevant
member who is the only one who can see them. I'm sure using some basic AI
you can scan all fields for rudeness etc. if you really think it's required.
What about LISTEN to the people who use the site instead of looking inwards and
worrying about how difficult it might be for Admin, that's a typical non
customer centric approach which will eventually drive people away to other sites.

It seems the community reaction is that they actually prefer those pages and
they use them. If the private notes are public, maybe fix that instead of turning
off a vital page to both buyers and sellers. I'm honestly getting a bit tired
of "oh this doesn't work, we're shutting it off" fixes over the
tied and true, "this was broke so we actually fixed it" announcements.
These changes make it painfully apparent that the development team doesn't
use the site and that management is either too quick to sign off or does not
know what a modern web site looks like. Years ago, the community rejected the
new BL look, not because of Dan, but because the new layout stinks. Yet in the
years you've had to fix it, nadda and now it's forced upon us.

Making public notes that we were told were private would open a huge legal issue,
not just if private data was in there but if there was incorrect statements in
there.
If people are storing other people's names or addresses in these fields I
can kind of understand it as the site would be aiding a seller's ability
to store data that they are not necessarily legally entitled to retain in the
long term. Of course it messes the system up for those that use it legitimately.

Open text fields can allow nefarious individuals to add their own code to pages
and are frequently used as part of hacks to systems. Skilled users can also search
what others have saved in their open text fields. That being said, the fields
in question and the pages, could simply be rewritten into a safe format to avoid
this as every other website in the world has done since the discovery of these
flaws.

And that data in those fields could be encrypted to match the user session to
view only, so if a hack of the database of Bricklink happens it can't be
used if it is such a concern.
One more reason to mention why this change is horrible is that the open text
field for favourite stores was helpful for noting the store’s city/location/proximity
to me - since Bricklink is unwilling/unable to narrow the location of a shop
beyond province or state. I now have a list of shops in Ontario that might be
local, might be a 12 hour drive from me. If I haven’t bought from them in 6 months
I have to rediscover that information all over again.
If there had been any notice at least we could have saved the notes, copied them
elsewhere for ourselves. Please, stop making changes that affect us all without
listening to the BL community! This is NOT a better Bricklink.

Removing My notes on members will break our order processing, and will likely
have the same effect on other shops.
Examples of uses for this field that cannot be done by having a note on an order:
1) Buyer needs specific treatment on their orders. Could be that they need parts
sorted a specific way.
2) Could be that there was a missing part on their last order and we put a note
on their account to remember to add it to their next order (with their consent
of course)
3) Could be that this buyer has repeatedly claimed orders as not delivered and
that if this happens again we will have to block them.
3) Simple one but essential: buyer contacts us after placing an order and asks
for us to hold the order, that they will be placing a new order to be shipped
at the same time to save on shipping. In this case, a simple 'hold, second
order coming' to be changed to '2 orders' is how we do this.
Removing this field is going to make things much harder for sellers and will
make it difficult for us to serve our buyers.

Sorry to be harsh, but this is a horrible idea.
All good points. Sellers are currently policing who they sell to and Bricklink
is taking that away. They have no intention of taking over the task, but you
will be liable for the failed transactions.
And just to reiterate and amplify part of my point, most of these uses are for
buyers we are serving, they just allow us to serve them better.
Yet another unwanted "update". What's next ? Removing of the comments
on blocked buyers, or maybe the blocking ability itself ? Or maybe sellers wont
be allowed to give buyers negative feedback ?
Unfortunately, nothing surprises me anymore.
