Dear BrickLink® community,

Since joining the LEGO Group, we’ve been working to make BrickLink even better
for our members. Now, it’s time for our next big step: LEGO® Account integration.

Coming this autumn, LEGO Account integration will create a single sign-in experience
for both LEGO.com and BrickLink.com.

What does this mean?
If you already have a LEGO Account, you’ll soon be able to merge it with your
BrickLink account. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to create one and then
merge it with your BrickLink account to keep using all your favorite BrickLink
features.

In markets where the LEGO Group offers the LEGO Insiders program, a LEGO Account
is created as part of signing up for LEGO Insiders.

We’ll also be updating ID card pics, our Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy,
and usernames and store names.

Do I need to do anything?
Not yet, but if you want to learn more about the upcoming integration, visit
our Help Page here: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2670.

Thank you and stay tuned for more updates, coming this summer!

No one wants this. Could you please fix the menu you screwed up months ago? It
still takes a million clicks to get to the forum overview.

Clicking on the magnifying glass when "Forum" is selected from the main
search dropdown takes you right there. Once I figured this out the whole menu
change became much more palatable to me:

This is a very bad idea! I am proud of my store and avatar, and I see no reason
why TLG should impose something I do not want.
Also, trusted stores and users will become unrecognizable to us who have been
on BrickLink for longer.

Please do not carry on with this useless exercise! I'd be okay with using
my BrickLink user name to sign in on my LEGO account.

Yeah, they're deleting all of the avatars. It's going to be really confusing
trying to figure out who everyone is on the forum after their names and avatars
change. But I imagine the forum is going to be removed next. They can't have
that as a liability!

Yep.  It took me some time to make my hair 😢

I really hope they beef up their list of avatars because there are not many of
them right now.
Plus, on Ideas, you can use your own pic, and if I’m not mistaken, LEGO Ideas
is part of TLG, no?  But on BL, we couldn’t.  Logical….

WHAT!!!!?????

Our Store Names and USERNAMES are part of our (digital) identity.
Lego, you are moving into an area I can not agree upon. Like already said, it
took years to build a community, but it will take just a few steps to ruin it.....

Do NOT take these steps, please. Listen carefully to what people are saying here.
For once.

After just celebrating 25 years of BrickLink, placing the founder of this all
on a pedestal (thank you Dan!), you come with this 'happy announcement? Major
downer that is.

Sellers should push back against this because this is part of the branding and

I don’t think “StarBrick” or “pgremeau” would be breaking any rule… unless someone

I spot the sarcasm, but rulebreaking is not the issue.
This is on a deeper level community-violation in preparation.

We nor Lego owns the word 'StarBrick' or 'pgremeau'. The entity
it represents however, what it stands for is something completely different.
Autistic fellows will go bezerk when this happens. Autistic people show us what
this really entails. It's not 'just a name'. Seriously.

I am happy, as legokopen said, to use my BL-ID as login for the Lego-site. Not
the other way round.

No sarcasm on my part.  You may argue that I “don’t understand what that really
means” but I’m just saying that:
1. As Yorbrick pointed out, they told us 32 months ago.  Plenty of time to react.
2. Instead of shouting “murder,” you may first start by checking there’s an issue¹.
And for 99% of us, the nickname won’t be an issue, but, yes, usernames/nicknames
that infringe on IP are a problem.  Again, plenty of time to react since the
first annoucement.

———
¹ The procedure is simple:
  — you go to the LEGO site,
  — you log in or create an account,
  — you put your BL username in the “nickname” field

We nor Lego owns the word 'StarBrick' or 'pgremeau'.

I beg to differ.  You, StarBrick, own ‘StarBrick’ as your nickname, and pgremeau
owns his, the same way I own mine.

   The entity
it represents however, what it stands for is something completely different.
Autistic fellows will go bezerk when this happens. Autistic people show us what
this really entails. It's not 'just a name'. Seriously.

Are you ‘StarBrick’ everywhere?  I’m SylvainLS about everywhere.  But a lot of
people have different nicknames for different places.
It’s just a name and it won’t change for 99% of BL members.

I am happy, as legokopen said, to use my BL-ID as login for the Lego-site. Not
the other way round.

Evidently, ExplodingBrick is too controversial for TLG. I tried changing my nickname
on Lego.com to that and they denied it. I guess too violent?

Sellers should push back against this because this is part of the branding and
identity of your store, you are not just "simple" LEGO customers...

I don’t think “StarBrick” or “pgremeau” would be breaking any rule… unless someone
else already reserved those nicknames?

“legokopen” though….

Hmm, yes, I kind of wondered when TLG would come up and request to change the
name I chose over 24 years ago. At some point I had to change the store name
from "Yes LEGO" to "Yes BRICKS" for that reason (long before
TLG even acquired BrickLink).

Well, sorry… I guess changing your store name was painful and changing your username
will be too… but, at the same time, I don’t really feel much sympathy for all
the “legoman1234” out there (I mean, come on, it’s not like when you can’t use
your own name because a homonym already registered with it).

Now, I wonder if 0937, 7390, ogel, and other such tricks are acceptable 🤔

Those were different times when I changed the store name. I didn't want to
change it, but well, I could understand. Now, at this moment I would not so much
miss my user name, but everyone's name may be recognizable to buyers, sellers
and other BrickLink users.

As for the avatar, as well as the shop logo, those are part of one's identity.
I would miss those.

The BrickLink Team

"Eventually, your LEGO Account nickname will become your public username
on BrickLink. This change will not happen in autumn 2025 with LEGO Account integration
but will happen in the months after the integration. If your current username
or store name doesn’t meet our guidelines for LEGO Account nicknames, we recommend
updating it as soon as possible to secure your preferred name."

Uhm.. yeah... so Lego had decided that "Teup" is somehow a dirty word.
So good luck on that integration. Somehow that doesn't really feel like my
problem...

To clarify, our store name has to change to match something on the LEGO site?

No.

You username will become the ‘nickname’ of your LEGO account, so better reserve
it/change it there quickly.

Some store names will have to change if they are against the LEGO Terms
of Service (contain ‘LEGO’ or another brand / IP; though “LEGO” should already
be impossible in BL store names, some people managed to include it and it stayed…).

Your store name doesn’t look like it would have to change.

will be merged in one

No.

The BL “username” will become the LEGO Account “nickname” (“Surnom” en français,
mais si tu suis le lien dans la FAQ https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2670#:~:text=How%20do%20I%20reserve%20my%20BrickLink%20username%20in%20the%20LEGO%20Account%20nickname%20system%3F

The store names that don’t match what is listed in the FAQ will have to change.

Nope, all three won't be combined. Your LEGO Account nickname will become
your public display name on BrickLink in the future. Your store name will remain
separate and will have to follow the rules for LEGO Account nicknames.

How would this change affect Stores URLs?

For me Stellar is taken... so I had to reserve Stellar Bricks. Will I lose all
the internet links to my store?

If your LEGO Account nickname is different from your existing BrickLink username,
your store URL may change when your LEGO Account nickname becomes your name on
BrickLink. We'll have more information on this when the username merge occurs.

It means store names should follow the guidelines around IP/trademark infringement
and Personally Identifiable Information, and adhere to standard LEGO moderation
guidelines around political or religious topics, drugs and alcohol, weapon references,
hate speech, profanities, violence, or abusive language.

Spaces and a few non-alphanumeric characters are allowed in nicknames. The full

There is a nickname checker built into the LEGO Account nickname page, where
it will tell you if your name is allowed or not (but only when you submit a change).
That won't help with store names, though. I'll bring this feedback to
our team.

our team.

If our display names are going to be different from our sign in usernames anyway,
why not just use our Bricklink usernames as our display names? There's going
to be a lot of confusion when people's usernames all change and we no longer
have avatars to figure out who they are.

Like someone else mentioned, Bricklink users should not be anonymous. This is
an adults only site (hello?). Sellers should be able to maintain their individual
brands. Many sellers do this as a full time business and have their own trademarks.
Buyers shouldn't be anonymous either. We need to know who we're dealing
with.

It's been incredibly frustrating how Lego has refused to consider any input
from the community since they bought the site. They haven't had any positive
effect on the site or the community since they bought it. Bricklink is nothing
but s community. That's what they purchased. Everything you see here was
developed by the community over the past two and a half decades. Could Lego please
recognize this and treat the users with respect and dignity? Ask for feedback
before making huge changes.

Frankly, Lego purchasing this site was an incredibly anti consumer move. You
now have a monopoly not only over the product, but the second hand market as
well. It's starting to turn me off from the hobby completely. With the way
Lego is treating customers these days and their emphasis on mindless consumerism
instead of creativity, I'm not sure I even want to buy their products anymore.

Nope, all three won't be combined. Your LEGO Account nickname will become
your public display name on BrickLink in the future. Your store name will remain
separate and will have to follow the rules for LEGO Account nicknames.

Thanks for your reply.
I already use the same nickname for both website. I was afraid I would lost my
store name but this is not the case, fortunately !

Had similar issue.

Are we sure the issue isn't the "Bricks" bit (despite no mention
it is not allowed, perhaps it is not allowed)?

Wonder if anyone has changed a nickname to something with bricks in it...

Alternatively they may just wish to manually approve names for now.

I was able to get Stellar Bricks, but not only Stellar... Also seems to login
at lego only "lego usernames" without spaces work, else you still need
to input your email.

The Lego Terms of Service are broader than "can't use LEGO in the name",
and the announcement mentions that store names may need to change. How do we
verify if a store name is approved and reserve a new one it if it needs to change?

Do store names need to be unique from lego.com user names? What if someone maliciously
signs up on lego.com with someone's store name and then it's not available
for that store to use when the transition happens. I can reserve my user name
now, but how do I reserve a Store Name?

Store names should follow the same guidelines as LEGO Account nicknames, but
there is not a formal system in which to reserve them. We'll have more information
about store names when the username / nickname merge happens in the future.

Thank you. That's the Id I wouldn't want to loose.

Not exactly, it's that store names will have to follow the same guidelines
as LEGO Account nicknames. Sylvain explained it pretty well

I don't want a LEGO avatar. I want to maintain the identity and reputation
I have created here for myself and my business.

There's nothing fun or beneficial about this for longstanding BL members,
Catalog users, and shop owners. LEGO might be a toy, but many of us here are
serious about what we do and how we interact with the site.

What's to happen to all the legacy names that have Catalog credit?

Can’t really blame Lego for wanting to generic-up all the accounts here, after
all any business Logos and graphical identities within the I.D Card if anything
only increase the chances of users wandering away from the site searching for
those unique identities. It won’t of course stop people from searching out a
stores online presence using the store name alone but worded text doesn’t quite
reach out or spark peoples curiocity in the same way a graphical Logo/identy
might

Personally I’ve never really seen the benefit of having a username that differs
from a store name anyway for the very reason that it only serves to split any
hard earned identity in half. Always seemed beneficial to me to be recognised
by the same memorable, single identity!

This is, plainly put, just wrong. My bricklink identity and my lego identity
are independent entities. Legally, practically, and functionally.

In Administrative, Admin writes:

The BrickLink Team

The BrickLink Team

We are toast, everyone modify you Lego.com account to have the same username
as here, I did that years ago.
It’s the only way to preserve your username for sure

I don't even have a LEGO.com account but had to get one anyway now. Nor do
I use LEGO.com apps. How is this useful for me?

I had to do this too. I don't buy new lego generally, and when I do its
not from them directly.

Either way I changed my username, should be interesting if I get to keep my strange
store name

You get points e.g. for scanning the QR codes from new sets' instruction
books. You can then use those points to get free stuff.

Not really free, you have to buy something else to get those "free" items.

I've added up how much that free stuff has cost me over the years, it was
not an insignificant number.

What is really nice is now you can apply your points directly to your order.

IMO, a minor benefit of a Lego.com account with the insider opt-in is to get
VIP exclusive items like

Set No: 40594 Name: Houses of the World 3
*
40594-1 (Inv) Houses of the World 3
278 Parts, 2023
Sets: Promotional

Set No: 40786 Name: Micro Command Center / Centre
*
40786-1 (Inv) Micro Command Center / Centre
212 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2025
Sets: LEGO Ideas (CUUSOO)

Set No: 40689 Name: Firework Celebrations
*
40689-1 (Inv) Firework Celebrations
176 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2024
Sets: Promotional

Set No: 5009044 Name: Barracuda Seas
*
5009044-1 (Inv) Barracuda Seas
148 Parts, 2024
Sets: Promotional

Those have been nice to have.

Right, only "free" if you were going to buy that something else anyway
(which in many cases - I was).

After so long, I think most of us hoped there might have been a change of mind
about this. I created a LEGO Account with the same ID as my BrickLink ID when
this was first announced, with no intention of ever using it, although I used
it recently to buy some BDP sets.

Please use dates for important announcements, not seasons. We don't all live
in the northern hemisphere. Summer and autumn 2025 are both over here and we're
a month into winter.

A question regarding personal details. Will I still be able to use different
addresses for my LEGO account and BrickLink? For privacy/security reasons, I
use a business address for my store here but have to use my home address on the
LEGO website, as they won't deliver to the business address.

I think we all know that. I've been here 21 years this week and I'm very
grateful for everything it's given me but with this and other changes, I
can't say I'm feeling too optimistic about the future.

Thank you for the feedback - we'll be sharing the specific launch date later
this summer (in the Northern Hemisphere).

Yes, you'll still be able to use different addresses. There will be a unified
sign-in after LEGO Account integration, but your LEGO.com and BrickLink addresses
will still be stored separately on their respective platforms.

Two things:

1: Is this optional? "Soon be able to merge" reads differently than "will
be merged".

2: I thought lego didn't like having multiple accounts at the same address;
how will this impact dummy accounts set up for testing shipping?

You'll have to integrate your accounts to continue using signed-in features
on BrickLink. Your BrickLink address will remain separate from your LEGO.com
address, since they will continue to be stored separately on each respective
platform.

“Data controller” is the term used in the GDPR (and, I guess, similar laws) for
the entity responsible for personal data handling.

For the downtimes, well, there’s this “replatforming” they are doing (and of
which the navbar changes is part)….

The BrickLink Team

The site says it takes 10 minutes to verify my username but it's taken 20+
minutes so far:

Any ideas?

I've been waiting for over an hour to see if my company name is acceptable
to them.

Okay, I got impatient and tried a different browser. When I tried to log in with
my email address it told me I couldn't. So I did forgot my username and the
system emailed me the username that it had spent an hour not verifying. So, if
you never get an answer about if your name is acceptable, close the tab or open
a new window and try logging in with the new username you entered.

Good luck everyone!

That’s why I asked if Give.Me.A.Brick had tried another browser.

I had this case just yesterday (not a LEGO site):
— creating an account on my usual browser didn’t work,
— I tried in Firefox: it worked…
— but then it sent me an email to verify myself, with a URL…
— and the captcha (Cloudfare’s) didn’t work (no question, just a checkbox to
try and try again),
— so I went back to the other browser and it worked.

So: two browsers, each for different parts of the process….

   So, if
you never get an answer about if your name is acceptable, close the tab or open
a new window and try logging in with the new username you entered.

Good luck everyone!

It looks like the LEGO Account system was experiencing some issues yesterday
around pre-generating nicknames. Are you still seeing the same problem today?

This is ridiculous, they flagged cfbUSA as referring to illegal activities. I
appealed, but looking at this whole discussion is not filling me with hope for
a correct resolution...

That's what I put it down to and if I could, I'd cancel and try another

I'm really annoyed with what's getting flagged by LEGO.

My store is named after my dog, who is named after a flower with "Bricks"
attached to it. When I was attempting to change the nickname, I received a message
stating: "Your post goes against our Code of Conduct because it's about
illegal activities."

I've searched Google numerous times and can't find anything that would
be a reference to an illegal activity. Renaming things does have real costs because
of having to file updates with my state/IRS for name changes for tax filings
cost money, stickers/branding, social media accounts.

They flagged “Lapinou.Bricks” with the same reason (https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1519688
).
“Lapinou” is the French equivalent of “bunny.”

I’m beginning to fear that it’s “Bricks” that they don’t like?

The other possibility is that they are dumb as a post… oh, or they are using
“AI” 😭

There should be an "Appeal" function on the LEGO Account nickname page,
you can try that or reach out to LEGO Customer Service and let them know you're
having an issue with your nickname: https://www.lego.com/service/contact-us.

be a reference to an illegal activity. Renaming things does have real costs because
of having to file updates with my state/IRS for name changes for tax filings
cost money, stickers/branding, social media accounts.

There should be an "Appeal" function on the LEGO Account nickname page,
you can try that or reach out to LEGO Customer Service and let them know you're
having an issue with your nickname: https://www.lego.com/service/contact-us.

You are correct but there is no place to enter an explanation of the user name
so after a period of time you get notified that Lego is standing by it's
original decision. At least that what happened in my case.

This is something Lego really needs to address. What will happen to store URLs?
What if someone claims someone else's username, performing a store takeover?
Maybe they need a few more years to figure this out. Or they could just give
Bricklink back to the community who created it.

Will we be able to choose the account that it merges to or will it automatically
be merged with the account with the same name/email?

Just in case you want a quick read of the reactions

Most users are strongly opposed to the integration. Concerns include:

Loss of Identity
- Users fear losing long-held usernames, avatars, and store names—seen as core
to their digital identity and community trust.

- Some expressed sadness that custom avatars ("ID card pics" will be
deleted and replaced with a small set of default avatars.

Forced Compliance with LEGO Rules
- Nicknames like "legokopen" or "ExplodingFruit" are already
being rejected by LEGO’s filters.
- Many usernames and store names might need to be changed due to corporate naming
guidelines or IP restrictions.

Disconnection from Community Roots
- Long-time users (some with 20+ years) feel that LEGO is overriding BrickLink’s
grassroots nature.

- There's fear this will undermine trust, particularly for identifying reliable
sellers.

Autonomy vs. Corporate Branding
- BrickLink sellers argue they’re not just LEGO customers—they’re independent
brands with unique shops and reputations.

- Several users mentioned they'd prefer to log into LEGO using their BrickLink
name, not the other way around.

Forum Concerns
- Users suspect the BrickLink forum may eventually be removed as it doesn’t fit
the polished image LEGO maintains elsewhere.

Call for Resistance
- Some users advocate boycotting LEGO, deleting LEGO accounts, or adding suffixes
(like "007" to usernames as a workaround.

- Emotional appeals were made, especially citing the impact on autistic users
who value consistency and identity.

This is why they told us a couple of years ago to make sure that we reserve our
bricklink names on LEGO.com

Anyone that registered the same name on lego that they had on BL will be able
to login using the BL name.

Thanks for your summary. You've got it right.

Just one more thing: what will happen to the usernames and ID cards of legacy
Catalog submitters who don't migrate to a LEGO account?

What happens to the Catalog credits?

Nice summary!! I wonder if it is falling on deaf ears? That seems to have been
the case the last few years. They continue to disregard the voices of the people
who use this site. They just shove their changes through with the attitude that
we will adjust to them soon or later because there really isn't an alternative

There have also been voices asking for more secure logins, less spam, tighter
security against scam messages, 24 hour security response, and so on. Hopefully
centralising logins and not having different policies, different servers, with
small and disparate teams for each, will help with this.

I skimmed this thread so I'll be the one to say it, as I have before.

Ai is going to eliminate the need for us. It's coming, fast.

Lego does not need us once this is possible. I think everyone should be prepping
for diversification in their flipping businesses, gearing towards other platforms
that don't have the deep pockets, or in person. Etc.

It's clear to me that far too many people here take this site on as an identity
more than a business. You'll go down with the ship if you cling to that too
tightly.

I don't have brand recognition on any of my other sites I sell on, I do just
fine there. So while annoying, if I had to "lose my identity" the sky
wont fall. .02

Your time and effort should be spent on taking down knock off brands and IP thieves-
not your own users/ fan/ brand loyalists- doesn't feel so good to be reading
the comments of our fellow shops.
Our business name has actually been trademarked years ago under the same toy
category as LEGO so we're a bit perplexed to why our brand name would be
illegitimate...

Then the problem seems to be that when you’re trying to use a registered trademark
in/as your nickname, LEGO should ask you if you’re the owner of said trademark
instead of deciding you can’t be.

Usernames and store names

Eventually, your LEGO Account nickname will become your public username on BrickLink.
This change will not happen in autumn 2025 with LEGO Account integration but
will happen in the months after the integration. If your current username or
store name doesn’t meet our guidelines for LEGO Account nicknames, we recommend
updating it as soon as possible to secure your preferred name.

You would hope in almost 3 years, they would have figured all of this out, but
I guess I hope too much.

It also would be nice to have more concrete information about dates and other
pertinent specifics. But, then I wake up and realize this is Bricklink.

Especially when we are providing a service more than a product. Bricklink without
the community would be nothing better then Pick a brick.(Just my personal opinion)

I'm running a business here. I shouldn't be anonymous. I am engaging
in financial transactions with my customers. They shouldn't be anonymous
either.

~Jen

They also say ... "Eventually, your LEGO Account nickname will become your
public username on BrickLink. " So the nickname shows as your public business
name and your username that you use to login remains private. You won't be
anonymous, you will be known by the nickname which is why they told us to reserve
them a couple of years ago. And the username you type to login remains hidden.
I think the idea is that this helps with security. Even if a user gives away
their password the hacker doesn't know the private username. Obviously it
doesn't help if a user gives both their username and password via a scam
login site.

I'm hoping this change of going to one account and one login server for all
services means that bl security will be improved. There have been enough hacks
and especially account takeovers that have led to people being scammed. Similarly
it might also help cut down on fake / bot accounts that spam the forum or order
from stores to then spam or scam. It might also help start to modernise the messaging
here, not revealing email addresses and keeping all messages onsite. BL is 20
years out of date on a lot of these aspects.

I miss the old, non-corporate days where we had more control of our destiny.
I knew when Lego bought the site a big portion of fun and independence would
come to an end. Not sure if I'll ever re-open or not.

The BrickLink Team

This is going to be a disaster. While my name here doesn't represent a store,
it is the name I use almost everywhere, except Lego. They absolutely will not
accept it for whatever reason. I'm sure it's because it's not "kid
friendly". Most other things I've tried were also denied.

I'd imagine this is going to be a giant mess as people scramble to find a
name that Lego will actually approve. Recognition here on BricklLink is going
to all but disappear as sellers will no longer recognize their long standing
customers, and buyers will struggle to find the stores they frequent if it's
not in their favorites list.

While I'm sure this is an attempt to drive more customers to BrickLink, I
can't help but feel that it's going to take away the stand-alone identity
that BrickLink has, as well as that of the sellers. For 25 years this has been
it's own community, and we've all grown to love it for what it is. Now
in comes Lego with things no one here asked for, or wants. Didn't bother
to ask the community (as far as I know) that is literally the only reason BrickLink
is profitable to begin with.

Seems like a huge step in the wrong direction to start making unwanted changes
to a successful platform.

LEGO has owned the site longer than you have been a member. Users have been asking
for more modern security measures and there have been many scams and hacked accounts.
Something needs to be done to beef up account security and stop the 100s of spam
accounts that join every day. If centralising accounts helps, then it is a good
thing.

The BrickLink Team

Is there any opportunity to get more information for sellers? We don't get
it.

As a seller, we are a registered legal business entity. Bricklink put much afford
during the last years in all compliance and regulation all over the world, to
fulfill business needs (We really appriciate!).
At LEGO.com everything is only possible for private persons. There is no option,
to register as a business entity.
So you can use name and birth date of CEO, but that's not what it should.
In Germany, it's even not allowed, to buy on LEGO.com as a reseller.
That's why we never created a LEGO.com account and only have a LEGO B2B account.

That's why we think, the LEGO.com-account cannot "takeover" the Bricklink
account, at least for sellers.
It seems, sellers have been forgotten in this process?

The questions about brands, renaming stores etc. already have been discussed.
It's another huge problem.
Everything on LEGO.com is not made for sellers/businesses, and instead for private.
So it seems not possible, to mix this.

We would appriciate, when this process also can be viewed from sellers perspectives.

Christoph,

One of our concerns that I don't think has been addressed is similiar. Will
Lego put out their ban hammer on every account that matches a Bricklink store
since we will be forced to merge the two?

I didn't know that was not allowed already in Germany. I have only heard
whispers over the years of Lego suddenly deciding that large stores can no longer
purchase their Lego directly from Lego.com and have heard of some sellers banned
from our local physical store.

Has this been addressed directly by Lego somewhere?

At LEGO.com everything is only possible for private persons. There is no option,
to register as a business entity.

That is because they only sell to consumers via the website and stores, they
have other ways of purchasing for businesses.

In Germany, it's even not allowed, to buy on LEGO.com as a reseller.

This isn't true, as long as the reseller buys as a consumer then they are
allowed to purchase. LEGO cannot stop you selling something if you have purchased
it legally.

This is in their (English) terms.

Can I use any product that I buy on the website for commercial purposes? No,
products sold through the LEGO Shop are for use by consumers; products sold through
the LEGO Shop must not be used for commercial purposes such as promotional campaigns,
marketing and PR. Neither can we allow you to associate our parts with any other
company's name or logo. For more details, please see our Fair Play Policy.

Note that they do not say that you cannot sell a set or parts that you purchased
from them, as you are allowed to sell anything you own if it is legal to do so.

Everything on LEGO.com is not made for sellers/businesses, and instead for private.

That is because they have separate ways of dealing with businesses, through their
B2B accounts as you know. But that doesn't stop a business buying as a consumer,
so long as they follow any rules and especially purchase limits and pay consumer
prices.

So it seems not possible, to mix this.

Of course it is possible. If you have a B2B account, you still need to register
on lego.com to use BL. However that doesn't mean you have to purchase through
the new lego.com account.

the new lego.com account.

But you can’t register a LEGO account with your business persona, as a juridical
person, you need to register with a natural person (as Christoph said, “name
and birth date of the CEO”).

That means the account doesn’t belong to the business but is personal to the
CEO (which then cannot have their own personal LEGO account).

IOW, it means that to log in into the BL account that belongs to the business/juridical
person, you use a personal account that belongs to the CEO.

That’s a legal quagmire.

But it’s okay, TLG thought about it for 3 years….

For them, they checked TLG was covered.  They obviously didn’t
think about businesses on BL because they stll don’t even know what will happen
with the URLs.
There’s a lot of registered businesses on BL, some personal, some incorporated,
some with registered trademarks, logos, the works.

Obviously, they (BL, TLG, legals…) are very narrow-minded: “we have to collect
tax, let’s collect taxes,” no one asking “hey, what about exemptions? certificates?”
Took them years to (half)answer that.
And now (for long definition of “now”), it’s “hey, let’s use identity.lego.com
on BL,” no one remarking “but ID is only for natural persons, there’s businesses
and juridical persons on BL.”

Not their problem.  Just creating problems for users.

And it really can be a problem when some things that should belong to the business
legally belong to someone else.  When that someone quits the business for instance
(voluntarily or accidentally).

Well, not in EEA/UK/Switzerland/Australia/New Zealand/Turkey/Japan/Brazil (EEA
= EU+Iceland, Norway+Liechtenstein)…
But, well, legally, TLG is safe anyway 🤷‍♂️
If there’s a fight between the person who owns the LEGO account and the business,
that’s between them, but LEGO is opening the door for this kind of problem by
being shortsighted.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if businesses could register a business account, property
of the business, with the business logo as avatar (or on its shirt or on a flag
in its hand or…), (on presentation of some registration… that BL already requires!!!).
That would be help the businesses, that would show TLG cares.

LEGO’s overall approach to the independent community has always been, at best,
indifferent. Most of their major changes — including this one — show little to
no consideration for the small businesses that operate within the LEGO ecosystem.
We've made multiple attempts to reach out to LEGO corporate and propose a
formal framework to better support independent sellers, but their response, dressed
up in legal language, has essentially been: 'Not our problem.' They seem
interested only in reaping the benefits, without any of the responsibility.

If the LEGO Group were to establish a formal framework for independent businesses
to engage with them directly, it would eliminate much of the current legal gray
area. This would allow LEGO to set clear guidelines and expectations for third-party
sellers, while giving creators a structured way to operate in alignment with
the brand.

But alas, old man yells a cloud!

But you can’t register a LEGO account with your business persona, as a juridical
person, you need to register with a natural person (as Christoph said, “name
and birth date of the CEO”).

That means the account doesn’t belong to the business but is personal to the
CEO (which then cannot have their own personal LEGO account).

Why not use the business email address and physical address. That account wont
be able to purchase on lego.com as it is not a consumer. If the CEO wants a personal
account, they can use a personal email. There is no limit on the number of accounts
...

https://www.lego.com/en-gb/service/help-topics/article/can-i-have-more-than-one-account-linked-to-my-email-address

You can only have one account per email address. If you want another account,
you'll need to sign up with a different email address.

It seems they don't limit the number of accounts but reserve the right to
cancel orders (and presumably ban from purchasing) if you use multiple accounts
to get around purchase limits. If the business account never purchases on lego.com
then that won't happen.

IOW, it means that to log in into the BL account that belongs to the business/juridical
person, you use a personal account that belongs to the CEO.

That’s a legal quagmire.

But it’s okay, TLG thought about it for 3 years….

Who may set up a LEGO account and sign up to LEGO Insiders?

There is no monetary payment associated with LEGO Insiders, and any natural person
over the age of majority acting in their capacity as a private consumer or user
in a country where LEGO Insiders is offered may apply to become a Member and
set up a LEGO account. Membership is limited to natural persons; no corporation,
business enterprise, association or other group or legal entity may apply to
become a Member of LEGO Insiders or establish a LEGO account

They look like the terms of service for the Insiders scheme. The business would
not need to sign up for an Insiders account. Although I think they recently changed
it so that when you sign up as an adult you automatically join Insiders which
makes it even less clear whereas in the past you had to opt in. There is still
the line about "or establish a LEGO account" in the terms for the Insiders
program.

Remember that they are combining all their services into one login. Children
also cannot sign up to Insiders (or purchase on the main site or join bricklink)
but will be able to have an account. This presumably means they will have different
account types that will have different permissions for using different sites
and apps. I doubt child accounts will be able to use bricklink for example, and
from what they have said, bricklink will still have user data so presumably users
will still have to register at bricklink to use it, just that the login is handled
by the central login server. Once that central server comes in, again I am guessing
it will have its own terms. After all, they do say ... "We’ll also be updating
ID card pics, our Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy,
and usernames and store names."

In the meantime if I was a registered business selling on BL, I would still register
for the LEGO ID to reserve the name and not use that account for purchasing or
anything else. Would it have been better to have updated the terms for the login
service first? Of course.

I’ve always loved LEGO, and I truly appreciate that they took steps to keep BrickLink
alive—it’s a vital part of the community. That said, I’m surprised that this
is where they’ve chosen to focus their efforts. From what I’ve seen in user feedback,
the new policy is confusing, creates extra work for some of BrickLink’s most
dedicated contributors, and doesn’t seem to align well with how the platform
actually functions (as illustrated in the cartoon). It also seems likely to generate
additional challenges for LEGO’s own support teams.

It comes across as a decision made in a boardroom, without fully considering
the day-to-day experiences and needs of the community.

One central login system that works across all their websites is probably less
of a challenge than having different login systems for each site/app.

The BrickLink Team

For those with registered trademarks tied to their BrickLink usernames and branding:

Forcing a name change or logo removal could constitute dilution or unauthorized
disruption of trademarked business presence

Even if BrickLink's TOS includes clauses about identity control, enforcing
them after the fact and under a merged account requirement is dangerous territory

Sellers with registered marks, proof of usage, and printed materials before the
policy shift could claim LEGO is infringing on established commercial identifiers

They probably assume nobody will fight them. But that’s only true if no one organizes.

I would think that it would be good if one's login name would be the same
as for the LEGO account. Just on BrickLink it could show any name of choice (just
the name we already have over here), as well as the avatar that we already have
on BrickLink.

Changing my name on the LEGO account to something else wouldn't help me personally.
I want to keep my nickname for things like LEGO Ideas. And I don't need anyone
on Ideas to know what I'm doing on BrickLink. Not that I'm doing anywrong.
It's just some privacy I want.

Use two different accounts then. You are allowed to have multiple LEGO accounts.
You just need to use different email addresses. So long as you aren't using
mutliple accounts to get around purchase limits, there shouldn't be a problem.
For maximum privacy use one for Bricklink, one for buying on LEGO, one for IDEAS
voting and commenting, and so on.

Thanks, yes, that's a good idea. I think that should solve it.

The way LEGO has been behaving why would anyone want anything to do with them
on a corporate level. Instead of fixing problems with the site or this gawd awful
forum, this is where the effort is put into?

Came here to not have to deal with LEGO's BS and now it'll just be more
of that? Nah I'm out.

Btw, password with 15 chars max in 2025 is just sad and whoever advised you on
that privacy nonsense written in the deactivation email should be disbarred,
if they even were a lawyer in the first place.

LEGO owned Bricklink when you signed up.
