I just contacted LEGO.com Customer support about getting it fixed or replaced.
So let's have a contest,
Please chose one of the following answers as to what you think they will do.
A. Nothing.
B. Say there is nothing they can do.
C. Mail a new one.
D. Contact me about getting it restored.
E. Tell me to throw it out.
Rules, one entry per day until a response is given, or the 31st if they never
reply.
The winners will receive a 15% off coupon.
I've dealt with LEGO replacement parts service many times (mostly some years
ago so they could've changed) but my guess would definitely be B. and if
you're real lucky they'll ban you from getting replacement parts of any
kind.
I’d like to begin by apologizing for the delay in replying to you. Unfortunately,
during the holiday season, hold or response times may be a bit longer than usual.
Rest assured, we are working diligently to answer all of the calls and emails
while ensuring top notch service to each LEGO® fan who contacts us. We appreciate
your patience and understanding with this.
I’m so sorry, but we don’t have the LEGO® piece you need. Our designers in Denmark
invent new LEGO toys and pieces all the time. They spend hours trying to create
toys that are better and more fun every time. This means we sometimes have to
stop making a few of the older pieces.
We do have this part in other colors, just not the yellow shade any longer, so
if you'd be okay with the part in the wrong color we can absolutely send
it out to you! Just let us know.
If you'd prefer that exact part, you may still be able to find the pieces
you need through different retailers or online shops. One that comes to mind
is www.bricklinkn.com. Keep in mind that these aren’t our websites so the LEGO
Group isn’t responsible for their content, and the items they’re selling could
be new or used.
Even though we don’t have the pieces you requested, we might have something similar
in our current assortment. If you’d like a different piece or want some help
finding out what might work instead, please let us know.
To see all the LEGO toys that we now make and to see if we make similar pieces,
please go to shop.LEGO.com.
I hope this helps, XXX! Have a great day and a happy holiday!
We want to make sure we're doing a good job for you, so you’ll always find
the link to a four-question survey in our emails. Please tell us how we did today:

On average, every person on earth owns 102 LEGO bricks.
Me too, earlier LEGO sent me to BrickLink for a couple of inquieries - wayyyy
before it was acquired by LEGO. It was - as guess - just probably "tolerated"
at this moment.
Same part, minor difference is that it has an axle hole in it. It's even
in a recent Spongebob set.
Somebody at LEGO needs to see what rare or odd parts they can find reasons to
use in Creator sets, and to keep them in there for several years, particularly
in hard to find colors.
