How difficult is it to ship items to Canada from the US? Are there any VAT tax
implications to be aware of?
For buyers there are lots so usually of all countries we avoid buying from the
USA. Since anything over $20 is taxed and hit with an additional $10 fee so for
example
$20 order becomes
$20 (order) $15 (shipping) $2.60 (tax different depending on province) $9.95
(service fee)
So that $20 become $47.55

None on the seller's end (e.g., you don't have to enter an IOSS number
electronically, etc.) as BL doesn't (yet?) collect and remit Canadian HST/etc.
Do not, and I can't stress this enough, ship via UPS to Canada. In addition
to any customs fees and taxes that might be incurred, UPS charges a brokerage
fee.

If the seller uses USPS, most packages come through unchecked for customs so
you don't get dinged 90% of the time. The reason for that is there aren't
enough customs agents to check every package. This is what I was told from a
Canada Post employee.
If you use ship with UPS, FedEx or any other courier, expect your customers to
be very unhappy!

for me anything pretty much shipped with USPS gets hit with customs. however
if its a package from Europe it usually wont but pretty much everything from
the USA is. with the major companies you can often pay the taxes online so it
saves time since at least for me with Canada post I can only pay at my post office
since they don't even charge tax at the door anymore so its just not fun.
(not to mention last time i went to the post office to get the package the person
in front of me was paying for a $70 shipping label in loose change so we were
in line for about half an hour...)

I will not buy from someone shipping with a courier (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc). The
fees they charge are astronomical.
