As a seller, 9 times out of 10 I will contact the buyer to let them know something
is missing before shipping and then NEVER HEAR from the buyer. So then their
package is sitting around for days waiting on a response from them. Then their
feedback is 'took a long time to ship and missing parts'. We have no
way of knowing who is going to be a quick responder and who isn't, which
parts are the most important and which is filler.

If you have something in your order that is the reason you placed the order,
then mention it in the notes so that we know and can reach out to you. I've
found that it is always about communication.

I do not run into not having all parts ordered often but EVERY time I have messaged
the buyer Before shipping an incomplete/partial order they have replied to let
me know how they would like to proceed with the order issue.
I do not see why a buyer is expected to or should have to add a note stating
why they placed the order. Isn't it as simple as they wanted to order the
parts in the order?

Same, I message the buyer (usually the night before I ship as I pull orders the
night before) and then unless I’m contacted saying it’s an issue I ship it out
normally the next day (or sometimes even in several hours) and I havnt had an
angry customers message me wondering why I didn’t delay shipping their package
for a week waiting for a response since a .15 part on a $30 was missing so I
think most customers don’t care about being contacted. If it’s an obviously important
part I’ll delay it but 99% of the time it isnt

Slight correction.
I meant most customers don’t care about responding if contacted that a small
part is missing. Based on the very low response rate it seems most take it as
kinda an “announcement” that they hear but nothing else.

This was my first time as well.
I built a model of my childhood home.
Just over 8,000 pieces.
All added to a wanted list, imported from stud.io.

This equated to 27 different stores and carts.
I paid about $1,200 for pieces; and about $160 in shipping.

I agree. It wasn't the best experience.
I still have two stores which have refused to ship or respond.

BUT....
1) Do I have all my pieces? Yes.
2) Did I somehow receive "mysterious" quantities? Yes. I think this
has to do with an individual store requiring a minimum amount or quantity (which,
from what I can tell, get's automatically adjusted. You REALLY have to pay
attention to your individual store carts).
3) Did I meet two OUTSTANDING store sellers? YES!! And I will continue to try
to order from only these two stores in the future.

So... your miles may vary. But that's been my experience with a fairly large
first time order.

Refuse delivery of the package so it goes back to the seller. After this happens
One or 2 time the seller learns not to engage in this cruddy business practice.

Is that common business practice, to communicate after shipping that parts are
missing? Would this warrant less than positive feedback?

Newer member here, just seeking some help

Put a note with the order ... DO NOT SHIP IF MISSING PARTS A, B AND C.

Sorry, this can't be serious

Any buyer should have templates just in case...

Yes, I was serious. If the buyer is having the same issue with multiple orders,
it makes sense to ask sellers not to ship if they cannot fulfill the whole order
or the important parts.

As a seller it can happen… can’t find a brick, or you find it and it’s turned
yellow (white pieces) or perhaps cracked (dark red, reddish brown). I always
send a buyer an email with options… credit, full cancellation, etc and let them
decide.

I find it a terrible business practice to send an incomplete order with just
a note in the order… you’ve wasted a week plus of time the buyer could have sourced
their parts elsewhere. Too busy e isn’t an excuse either… it’s just poor customer
service.

Yes. This seems to be the only way to defend against this unfortunate seller
practice.

Also, if sellers want to just refund parts without telling you, and they don't
advertise this practice in their terms, they ought to refund your shipping as
well so you can shop elsewhere.

I'm sorry but here we don't write before shipping.

That may be possible for a small shop, but more difficult when you've to
permanently process (every day, all day long) orders.

Much more, we tested this solution to write before shipping.

It simply didn't work or made buyers unhappier.

* Buyer may take 1 to a few days to read his e-mails/messages, the he asks to
ship - but is already unhappy because having lost a few days.

* Some buyers don't communicate at all, for various reasons, or hardly
(language...)

* Or one may ask for a compensation in different part(s), which may be complicated
(different price), or bad luck could ALSO be missing in qty, so then what do
we do, write again?

Note one may say it was the most important part of the order, while representing
1% of the order price or quantity

Shipping is also exactly what does LSAH and PAB (and many generic online shops)
- if something's missing they simply don't charge you but ship the remaining.

Personnaly when I buy I'm aware that I may not receive some parts of an order.

So if something is critical I either ask before the order, or at least would
write in the order comment "3001 Red is critical, please let me know if you
don't have it!" or something like this - and of course hoping the seller
will read (some simply don't, some very busy may simply miss the message)...

In short, no, for practical reasons I don't expect shops to warn me before
shipping.

HTH?

It shouldn't happen, but it does.

Mistakes happen from every seller from time to time. But when a seller knows
they're missing a piece, they should contact the buyer BEFORE shipping and
let the buyer decide what to do. If I were you, I would request a refund for
the part plus the cost to have it shipped from another seller.

Sad to say that is all too common. Seems like many sellers are so concerned they
will lose a few dollar order that they do not dare let the customer know in advance
of shipping they have an issue with the parts ordered.
I ALWAYS send a message Before shipping with an explanation so the buyer actually
has a choice to cancel.
I think non positive feedback was earned in a case such as this. You should
also get a full refund.

message AFTER shipping that they don’t have or can’t find the parts I actually
needed and still shipped the package. They provide a refund for the missing
parts, but those were the only reason I was buying in the first place.

Is that common business practice, to communicate after shipping that parts are
missing? Would this warrant less than positive feedback?

It depends. Some sellers send package then message with missing parts which i
dont like too. As seller If something missing i always contact buyer how to proceed,
given option to cancel entire order. Its horrible to open an order for important
part which is missing and the seller contact you after the fact they shipped
the order

See the story below.

I didn't know there was a limitation on the number of messages...

Please "unlock" him if possible?

Please consider a higher limit as soon as the buyer has 1 or even more in
FB rating for example, like 250 per day for instance?

Note that if a buyer/seller abuses, some (like me) will report them anyway, and
then you can "lock" them for good

Well, I was able to place the orders and then communicate with the sellers off-site
via email. Thanks SO much to "Lets Play Bricks" and "CoffeeBricks"
for working with me personally, replying to my questions immediately, and providing
additional options to specifically fit my needs!

Now, what happened??
I made 28 orders over 2 days, about 10 days ago.
Two of the sellers are unresponsive, have never changed the status from "paid",
and do not reply to messages.
So, I made yet another cart with all the pieces from the two unresponsive sellers.
I then went to purchase this cart, which broke down to two stores.
I messaged each store, asking if they could get it shipped today with expedited
shipping (it's Easter weekend).
As I'm working it out with these amazing sellers, BrickLink tells me I can't
reply to them anymore.
I had to complete the purchase, then I was able to finish correspondence with
the seller via the order form.

What a bad experience.
What did I do wrong here?

That sounds like a good deal, but after looking at your store, I just can't
shop there. The number of duplicate lots you have is extremely high, and that
makes it quite a pain to shop a store.
