A national day of recognition, with an interesting genesis.
Briefly, it started with a young woman’s sentiment towards her father at the
start of the 20th Century here in Washington. She got the idea of a day of recognition
for Fathers after hearing a Sunday sermon, wherein the preacher spoke on the
topic of Mothers and the virtues of motherhood. This woman being close to her
father, asked the preacher afterwards, if he’d consider giving a similar sermon
on the virtues of fatherhood. Anyway, the strength of her idea and her tenacity,
led to her eventually campaigning for it to become an actual day of celebration.
First locally, then statewide, to eventually being Federally recognized sometime
in the 70's by Congress for national celebration.
Today’s Father’s Day sprang from the love one determined daughter had for
her father. Pretty cool...
Got a “Happy Father’s Days” on my workout at the shore today, from a woman who
also shared with me that although her father is no longer with her, she still
celebrates the day by sitting under a particular tree overlooking the shore where
her father would enjoyed spending time with her and her mother. Just sit and
think about her dad. Told her I thought that is a very nice way to remember him.
If he’s still around, give your dad a call or just show-up. If he’s not, maybe
find your metaphorical tree
(Posting today, as I’ve tried to every Father’s Day here on BL, and as I’ll
not be available to do so this Sunday

Thankyou for sharing! I’d forgotten today was that day and I’d never looked into
its origin before!

Hope you had a wonderful Father's Day, Jason. Whether you're paterfamilias
yourself or with your father. Either way, carpe dies patris
