do it! All because their system is broken. lol

Business.
Ok, but I don't have a business number or Tax ID thing.?? And what type
of business is it?
Partnership (no, lol)
Corporation
Private company
Public company
Government entity (no)
Trust
Nonprofit (no cause I selected this one 1st and it asked me for info I obviously
didn't have, lol)
Disclaimer: IANAL, I’m not talking for BL, LEGO, Canada, His Majesty’s Revenu
or whatever it’s called in Canada, I may be a cat… And things are always a bit
different between countries.

No, that’s when your business is “incorporated”: it has its own legal existence.
Corporations have “shareholders” and a “board.”
Private company
I’d say yes.
Public company
No, that’s when the company’s shares are on the stock exchange.
Government entity (no)
Trust
Nope.
Nonprofit (no cause I selected this one 1st and it asked me for info I obviously

No, that is an organization that has a special status and priviledges (lower
taxes for instance) because its goals are not to make money (profit).
Think Red Cross, or the local Curling club.

Not very helpful,, lol. But since 90% of sellers on BL are not official businesses,
I would hope that people just came out and told everyone which one they chose
so we all could know and put the same thing that worked with the BL system!

You may be mixing what IRS or Laws thinks about you... and PayPal.
PayPal seems to now require you've a merchant / pro / business PayPal account
to be linked to a BrickLink Shop.
So, any legal status you wish, as long as PayPal accepts it.
Really, see what PayPal accepts, and pick the legal status you wish?
It's really your responsability to choose which one.

Actually, PayPal has nothing to do with it! It's all Bricklink that requires
us to link PayPal to their website so that Bricklink can charge taxes to USA
buyers and other countries. And for Bricklink to accept the onsite payment link,
you can't register a business as a individual sellers... It stops it and
doesn't link the account to your BL account.. This I had to learn through
the forum because there are NO instructions on what we have to do to set all
this up for Bricklink's sake! Now that 1 person told me what to put as a
business, I will do that and let's see if Bricklink blocks it and either
allows me to link it or not. All the while leaving no instructions or giving
any help! I should make a youtube video about this so people are aware of what
to put.

You can be both individual but professional, that's super common - here anyway.
You don't have anything to do on BrickLink!
But you've to convert your PayPal account to a professional/business one
(I don't know the exact / current PayPal name, and here it's in French
anyway), that's it.

I would just pick an easy no fuss no muss one like sole proprietor (or similar).
I dont think PayPal really cares which you choose, all they will do anyways is
send your totals as a business to the government for tax purposes - in the US
PayPal just submits a 1099 form. For a long time I just had a personal account
but a few years back I upgraded to a business account and if I remember correctly
I just picked the type of business we have and that was about it, took about
2 minutes.

Curious as to why you upgraded and what the benefits of a PayPal business account
are.

Because it's now mandatory to set/keep instant checkout and auto payment,
and not loose 75% of the orders because tax can't be applied?

I haven't found that to be the case. But my PP account is a really old "premier"
account so it may have been grandfathered in somehow.
Yes, there’s a lot of different statuses (by age / by country…) and grandfathering,
so asking “what’s yours? / how did you do it?” doesn’t really help (provided
you remember what you did / how it was called at the time ).
All we can say is that it appears that, for new sellers, business PayPal accounts
can connect when personal accounts can’t 🤷♂️

No it's not. my personal account works just fine.
Because you opened it in 2003 or such?
It seems mandatory for at least a year also, so you're not concerned.
Or you could be: unlink your PayPal account from BrickLink, then try to link
it again
But don't complain

You always have to be a smart-ass right?
Thanks. As you'd read searching a bit, business accounts are mandatory nowadays.

My question was to TheBrickGuys, who said he converted to a PayPal business account
a few years ago. I would say your replies about a PayPal business account now
being mandatory are useless and irrelevant to my original question.

This is what happened to me. I stopped using paypal for payments on BL when they
changed to charging USA buyers taxes and such. I had amazing items so it was
easy to unload them to Canadians. But now I need sales and to get rid of all
my stock so I can get fast cash, so I needed to allow USA to buy from me again.
(I'd let the world buy from me but the tracked shipping is way to high to
bother.)

You can easily look up that information online...
In the end there is not much difference, you don't pay extra fees or anything.
It just gives you tools to invoice customers directly, have employee access and
prohibits friends and family payments.
Personal
Business
What is the difference between Personal and Business accounts?
All PayPal accounts allow you to send and receive payments.
Personal Account
Sign up for and use a Personal account to:
Shop and pay online
Send or receive personal payments for shared expenses (for example: splitting
a dinner bill or paying rental charges)
Send money as a gift
We also recommend a Personal account for casual sellers who want to get paid
online but also make online purchases.
Business Account
Sign up for and use a Business account to:
Operate under a company/group name
Accept debit card, credit card, and bank account payments for a low fee
Allow up to 200 employees limited access to your account
Access PayPal products such as PayPal Checkout
Account Fees
For more information on fees, click Fees at the bottom of any PayPal page.

I did look it up and couldn't find a compelling reason. That's why I
asked the question, maybe there's a benefit I don't see regarding BrickLink.

potential reason is if you get hit with a "paid!" order it seems you
(might) not have the option to void the payment in Paypal unless you have a business
account (but this is still unknown for sure and some account might if they are
older accounts or such)

And as what I just read, the ability to print shipping labels.
Here we don't know this feature, don't have it, so don't use it.
We have basic or specific contracts with posts/courriers, and use their website
to make the stickers.
It's very convenient, especially being charged once per month for example,
the amount being directly taken from your bank account, and receiving a single
invoice for the whole month (with details of every shipment). With some incentives
like spent 200€ get 5% discount, automatically calculated.

I can confirm that for my ancient personal PayPal account there was no void option
for a "Paid!" order I received.
If you have a business PayPal account, are you able to void payments?

i think it might only show if the status of the payment is in the "paid!"
glitch form as then you can void the capture before the payment has been made
so i dont believe it shows for standard payments as i dont see it on mine and
i haven't had any "paid!" orders in a very long time

Holy crap! You guys kept talking about this for me and I didn't look today,

BUT, I did speak to a paypal CS rep AND a manager for about 2 hours today and
even the Manager couldn't help me with some of this stuff!! LMAO!! So they
are sending questions to the tech department to see if they can answer some of
the questions!! But man, imagine if a newbie tries to set up a store like this!!
