I like to support local sellers. It would be tremendously helpful if, after creating
a wanted cart, we could sort the sellers by distance based on our location (ZIP
code here in the US.)

No - as many would have a problem people knowing where they're located -
without an order of course, and apart the Country, State or Region which are
"big enough to feel safe".

Perhaps sellers could have an option to opt-out.
As a buyer, I see tons of benefit to supporting local sellers, and knowing that
I'll get my order sooner.
I'm not suggesting that Bricklink should show exact addresses. Just a region
would be helpful, such as "Paris" or wherever.

They have the “region” of states which already helps narrow it down a good bit,
the problem with anything more specific is it would likely have to be an opt
in program and not enabled by default which means most sellers won’t do it (at
least not for a while) so it would be of little use

Where is this option? When I use the auto-cart feature in a wanted list, I see
three choices: anywhere, continent, and country.

Opt IN maybe. For privacy reason it shouldn't be shown by default.
So as only 1/10 would opt in, this wouldn't help a buyer saerching for close
shops
