Admin Russell,
Things have been very quiet from you recently. Would you please be able to take
a few minutes to give us all an update?
Why is the anti-spam process now *worse* than it used to be? We used to be able
to report things and our amazing group of discussion moderators would take care
of the problems within moments. Now, it takes a much longer amount of time, and
those of us who report things get spammed with useless emails. Also, you've
put our moderators out of a job?
This just seems to be the latest in a very long string of instances of Bricklink
making things worse when they're supposedly making things better.

Yeah the spam email is already p***ing me off. Reported 5 spam posts and received
10 emails from BL. Just stop it. I don't want any email. Just remove the
spam.

Its going to go on Deaf ears. Over the last ten years people have made some BETTER
suggestions than anything every DONE here. Its not going to get any better. Best
thing For BL right now is just get rid of the Forums altogether and let some
Open source third party run one which will have far better support and control
over things. It does not even have to be attached to our accounts. Live that
crap out.

It is easier to just ignore the spam. If it doesn't disappear for multiple
hours once it is reported, then there is little point reporting it.
... but you have to do it on every spammer. It takes no longer than it used to
to report spam although with the oobvious downside that it only works for you
so there is no collective benefit.

I have read other messages boards changes due to DSA. I think the email to the
reporting party is a requirement of DSA. This way the reporting party knows that
the report was received by bricklink and bricklink has to address the report
in 72 hours, also a DSA requirement. Then you'll probably receive another
email describing the action that has taken place by bricklink.

Thanks for the link, a nice and clear summary that confirms (*phew*) my reading
of the (long) directive.
As what I super quickly read, moderations has to be saved, inventoried, counted,
reported, much things the previous system (aka: "manually delete this crap"
couldn't do.
Which could be why current Moderation has been outed of the loop?
Anyway, some discussions and more Community respect could have be shown.

AFAICT, messages are cancelled in the same way as before.
They just “inserted” some stuff between the form and the results. I’m sure they
could have found a way to both supervise us and let us act quickly.
For bans, it’s a bit different because admins can directly unregister members.
Before, CEP mods banned the spammers and the admins unregistered and anonymized
them every two days or so.
In any case, we could prevent spammers from multi-posting, the new setup doesn’t
seem to work well (how many posts could a bot make in 9 hours?).
We don’t know yet how they’ll handle short forum bans for naughty members….
In any case, we (mods) have ideas to let us clean the forums of spam without
infringeing on anything, even in the new setup. But we were never asked 🤷♂️
Anyway, some discussions and more Community respect could have be shown.
You don’t say….
Even the nursing home makes you participate: you build your own canoe!
Though I don’t get why they are a so angular and have lids 🤔

The Studio forums do not send email spam to the reporter - they ask if they want
feedback. Why can they do that and the BL forums not? Stupid.
Er, the Studio forum does not sent any email, at all. It never did.
Thanks to the last update (18 months ago), we now have visual notifications of
PMs, answers, quotes… in the navbar, but still no emails.¹
So, even if you had wanted email notifications, you wouldn’t have got them
Anyway, now, the report button sends you to the same report page as here. So
you’ll get emails too 🤷♂️

¹ Before that update, deleting or moving posts didn’t work….
How often are you all checking the forum? I just clicked "hide deleted messages"
and I haven't seen a spam message in months.

Again I read all these posts on your thread and again I find my mental health
wanting me to stab myself in the eyesballs with chopsticks.
The problem with being an Administrator/Supervisor/Manger etc is whilst you are
fully aware of these problems your "team" of designated professionals
is tasked with changes and modifications. Not Russell personally.
Sure the question was respectful, sometimes changes need to be tweaked. Sometimes
things don't work out and you have to start again......ask my ex wife perfect
example.
Its hard for an Administrator to come forth and give the feedback to the questions
you have when VERY RECENT changes still go through an evaluation process. It
is difficult as a Manager to also make changes when its always the same group
of members making the comments. The regular thread participants are a handful
compared to the thousands of members who need to benefit from Bricklink as an
entity.
Beating Sylain up is ok, it should be a monthly event he enjoys it. But I just
think we need to exercise more restraint and patience to reap mutually beneficial
rewards. Don't forget some require changes are dictated to TLG and Bricklink
by changes in political positions and legislative changes. We need to be patient.
Pssssst...Russell, please pay your monthly scubasteve protection fees via onsite
paypal.
But seriously guys I have been in management positions in trans national matters
and it can be tough and often we make educated guesses and make mistakes. Try
failing or fail at trying?

3rd time you have mentioned injuring yourself... & you think everyone else are
the ones with "mental issues"....
but, isn't talking about "self-harm" considered 'Harmful Content'
under the DSA.. ?
hope none of these people you keep talking about report all 3 of your postings......
jus' sayin'
Using your analogy, you would be the cause and effect of all 3 mental health
comments. If that is true are you not the harmful content and should it not be
you who is removed to stop you violating my human rights?
Now of course that is not the truth, that is an example of twisting words. Which
is exactly what you do in an attempt validate yourself and your own self importance
before others.
From a legal perspective you need to understand the legal meaning of persuasive,
passive and authoritative words which include basic language like "I, we,
may, shall" and the way such language is legally comprehended. Yes, I do
have a degree blah blah blah.

what is cyber-bullying?
Pointing out a fact is not bullying. You claiming to be the victim is a falsehood,
or in your case a defense mechanism.
So who is the bully in the eyes of a falsehood when the victim is actually the
perpetrator?

and yet you continue the bullying.
you are a seller on an official LEGO website who has donned the screenname of
an official LEGO product. (Scuba Steve)
placing yourself & your store in the position of being a 'representative'
of LEGO.
and you are engaging in Cyber-Bullying & consistently talking about 'Self-Harm'
Society doesn't refrain from talking about Mental Health, Society refrains
from talking about 'Self-Harm'.. in other words, leads to the "Big
S"
how many parents have accounts on here & might allow their child to hop on &
select the parts they need to complete the sets they have?
and that child might come to this Forum & read Lego Mini-Figure Scuba Steve's
Forum posts.
that is a 100% viable possibility & you are a unofficial name-saked representative
of LEGO on this website might influence that child into things no one in society
wants to occur...
why am i having to explain this too you?
Because you are not trying to explain it to me, you are attempting to implicate
me in your delusional thought process.
Do yourself a big favour, you have already had your store suspended. Try not
being so accusatorial to others, perhaps even send an apology email to those
you offended.
No staff in any live or online store need to put up with your nonsense.
Now if you don't want to do that, that's fine too. Your second option
would be to remain silent and leave with the little credibility and dignity you
have remaining.
Your choice, no bullying here! Might be some ToS issues with kids buying lego
pieces on here as you put it.
your the one who 'Blocked' me & returned to continue reading.
obviously your dedication to 'win' is more important than thinking beyond
yourself & considering the impact what you continue to talk about might have
on others not involved in your 'online feud'.
children are easily influenced. you seemingly could care less.
sad, but you just don't get it. maybe 1 day you will understand.
i closed my store months ago, not clicking the DSA box is why my seller privileges
were revoked.
you don't even know what you are talking about.
So if you elected self exclusion and you are posting on threads......in a forum
you elected exclusion from..... hmmmmm sounds like the boy who cut his nose off
to spite his face and now needs a hug.
Feud, no feud here, I am the respondent. Win? Its a non contest. Its ok you win,
you can be the winner.
So what is next, we have done the nutjob routine, the cyber bullying routine
and the online feud routine. What is the next allegation of my apparently poor
conduct in your view?

Now can we just get along?
the reason society does not talk about 'self-harm' is because even though
maybe currently no one here is on 'that edge'... tomorrow, the next day
or sometime in the future someone might be on 'that edge', come here
& read your posts and you consistently casually referencing it might put that
someone in the mindset of it being 'ok'...
hence, society refrains from mentioning it all-together...
well, polite society doesn't anyways...
go figured legal-guy would already know & fully understand this concept....
That is not a concept that is a persuasive theory. There is no doctrine to support
this.
Society refrains from discussing mental health?
People love using MH as a escape for not controlling themselves, some is real
but most is not.
Happy to lend you some money
so you can buy a ticket on the next lightspeed transport and return to planet
earth.
Always keeping it interesting. What I dig about your forum presence
You've been posting what, about eight months now? Well, it's good to
have newcomers with something to say and whom are unabashed about saying it
Taking the place of certain others that seemed to have just faded away over the

The only take away from that is you should be heard given your longevity. Your
dedication is commendable.
But if you are suggesting your level of real world knowledge is any better than
mine or the next person because you have had at least 20 years "online"
lego experience and at least 7000 lego transactions is wholly irrelevant.
The same could be said for the BL OG's, perhaps you can evolve in the new
and uncertain times to shift your focus to what matters today and tomorrow, opposed
to yesterday.
There is a considerable difference between marking time and jumping.

lmao, Likewise. We are not having an issue to be clear, we are having a discussion.
Yes I can see my response could be bizarre. But if you can see your post as calling
me something like "been here and in lego for 5 minutes and you should sit
down and listen little boy". Then it's not bizzare.
I have been involved in lego for 40 years since my grandmother bought me my first
set in 1983. I have been to every lego land in the world and visited TLG HQ over
10 times during the last 25 years.
Granted and agreed, I may not have chosen to join bricklink until more recently
with my wife. But there was a very valid reason for that decision. I will never
be sophisticated with the BL software. I will often need help, and you all do
help me immensely and that is what a community of people should do regardless
of who has more and/or bigger bricks and collections.

But seriously guys I have been in management positions in trans national matters
and it can be tough and often we make educated guesses and make mistakes. Try
failing or fail at trying?
Always keeping it interesting. What I dig about your forum presence
You've been posting what, about eight months now? Well, it's good to
have newcomers with something to say and whom are unabashed about saying it
Taking the place of certain others that seemed to have just faded away over the
years here, old-timers with the same traits that kept this place jumping.

Thanks for the history lesson on myself.
Think you might be misunderstanding. I enjoy your posts and appreciate you keeping
it interesting here, is all... Your bizarre reply included
lmao, Likewise.
Hadn't considered life experience, yours or mine, nor our respective LEGO
experiences (which btw, never impressed me). No, just your "forum presence"
and how it's good to have "newcomers" with bravado, fill the void
left by some of those I'm remembering.
I do read them all. Because I believe acquiring knowledge is always wise. Frankly,
there are some very impressive people posting in these threads with their history
and knowledge. They are true assets.
Weird that I can block store access for someone, but still see a persons posts.
I thought block was block.
you don't even know what "new" means...
it had to be explained to you......
Uhuh right got it. I don't know what "new" means. Thankfully I can
interpret that if "new" is the best you have this conversation is almost
over.
Praise the Lego Gods for that.
the point of this conversation was to put you in the position where you were
defending 'your'.. *cough* ~Freedom of Speech~...
ironic.. isn't it.....
have a good night there Steve
Well I did not defend myself or anything remotely to that. Nor do I need to.
So you achieved exactly zero of your goals.
I may have been advocating against your misguided belief that somehow Administrators
and its proxies have choices in what you say. Really they don't. Difficult
decisions will always have to be made by management elements in workplaces regardless
if they agree or disagree with them. That is not just in Bricklink, but any workplace.
Carrying on with your futile rants wont change a thing.
I simply cannot mouse scroll 3 times per message to read a reply like "+1"
or "I disagree" at the bottom.
Ok let me try this....Hope this helps Mr BL OG. 50k+ damn that is impressive!
anyways.....
Please help your readers, or like I sometimes do, I'll simply won't
read, too bored, index finger being hurt
Alternatively, you may reply at the top of the quote.
You mean like when I use my index finger and tap my screen to understand quotes
of others?
"You both guys really could learn to better quote when replying." I know my day today is going to be long at the Childrens Hospital....Thanks for the chuckle!

Yep, sometimes I'm even proud of it - rarely in fact, far too much work,
can't appreciate.
Not to complain, just to say.

I don't know about the tap thing; here we're modern, we've keyboard,

Admin Russell,
Things have been very quiet from you recently. Would you please be able to take
a few minutes to give us all an update?
Why is the anti-spam process now *worse* than it used to be? We used to be able
to report things and our amazing group of discussion moderators would take care
of the problems within moments. Now, it takes a much longer amount of time, and
those of us who report things get spammed with useless emails. Also, you've
put our moderators out of a job?
This just seems to be the latest in a very long string of instances of Bricklink
making things worse when they're supposedly making things better.

It’s a shame that this forum is not more valuable. I used to check it every
day with interest. I kept hoping it would become useful and informative. I
rarely do any more. There are very rarely substantive discussions, and posts
often get many useless replies, which are not helpful (e.g. Pizza, +1, criticizing,
insider banter, etc.). I would imagine if it was better, more people would use
it regularly and it would grow organically. Not trying to be mean, just disappointed
that a Lego forum is so unhelpful when there are thousands of users who could
benefit from a better version.

It's become that, the same few and their back n'forth, or "insider
banter" as you phrase it. Incestuous exchange of thoughts, is what I'd
call it. From someone that remembers how it was going back to the auctions days.
Beautiful times on BL

It's not a "Lego forum" It's the BrickLink forum, a once far
superior to most others, platform. Which has only recently been absorbed into
the 'establishment'. We will all see what it morphs into in the end.
Nothing beneficial to the free exchange of ideas, I'd imagine.
Sad, but I'm personally good with it. Finally forcing me to move on

the point. Back to ignoring a potentially good resource…

It's actually still easy to follow any substantive discussions. Use the 'Without
Replies' button to quickly scan for new, relevant posts and ignore any discussion
that has devolved into banter or antics.
Or the mods could start deleting the crap instead.

I would not want that. There's room here for serious discussion and some
inside banter too. That's why we have tools to manage what we see.

I have 40+ posters on my Ignore List. I know about the tool. New users don't.
They come to the forum and are confronted with a tidal wave of garbage.
I wasn't referring to the ignore tool. I was just pointing out some options
that exist to make things more usable.
I recently spent some time in other BrickLink fan forums looking for what else
was out there. Honestly, I haven't found anything better. And the majority
of the so-called answers on those platforms that I saw were misleading or just
flat out wrong. The less people know it seems the more confidently they answer.
At least here we can point out mistakes and provide good advice. There was one
discussion going about how bad this Forum is... hilarious! All newbies have to
do is get over their prejudice of how old fashioned this place is and it works
just fine.
Except for notification of replies, there is not much I would change. Oh, and
restoring the sub-menus so we can actually navigate and search.

That's fine, but you no one should have to do all that just to get something
readable. New and casual users don't know about the options. They'll
just leave.

If you mean the reddit bricklink, I'd have to disagree. I think it's
good. If you mean facebook forums then I wouldn't know, I don't use facebook
except for the marketplace.

You can do that on any forum if you choose to. If the BL forum is full of garbage
posts, nobody will read, nobody will learn and nobody new will stay and participate.
It's become very insular here. Hardly anyone new posts. Why is that? This
new user posted about why he doesn't bother with the forum and look at the
atrocious responses:

I don't see the humor. If you're referring to the interface w/r/t the
forum being old fashioned, I think there's a much deeper problem than that.

I sometimes wonder if it might be a good idea to have a setting for hiding all
posts from zero feedback users, and by default have that turned on. That way,
spam won't show to anyone when they first come to the forum. Those that are
willing to help genuine new users could switch the setting to display those messages,
with the bonus that those users are likely to be more experienced. Obviously
it should not hide messages posted by self, so zero feedback users see their
own posts.

Unfortunately it'll hide all help demands from newbies (can't communicate,
how do I buy multiple lots, manage my collection and so on)...
A bayesian (AI?) filter on title and body + reject any link other than BrickLink,
rebrickable to newbies... would reject 99% of SPAM.

Not really. It would only hide them from people that haven't opted in to
see those posts. Helpful people that want to help newbies would opt in to see
posts from new users and still be able to help.

I had the same thought. It would unfortunately also have the potential to alienate
some new genuines. But it definitely has merit I think

Wow! 40+ Impressive!
Though anyone boastful of such a stat, is not usually the type to worry about
strangers or "new users" in my experience. Nope, that type is normally
too occupied with themself. Maybe not hide those darker feelings (we all deal
with) behind a faux, yet otherwise worthy concern. Just own it
Btw, engendered another delicate flower to my collection this morning.
Maybe just another someone such as yourself or the so-called new-user
in this thread. Who knows
Regardless, I'll not use the feature to ignore as I once and briefly did
in our earlier days on BL. I've come to personally appreciate all that is
willingly shared publicly by others, even the "garbage & crap" as you
put it. Unfortunate phrasing btw, for the interactions and exchanges of others.
Look forward to hearing more from you. While I'm still here, anyways

Well, it is not an assumption that you only joined BL two months ago. The clue
is in the registration date. That, or you have registered multiple accounts,
possibly breaking the terms of service if you have had multiple accounts at the
same time.

If an assumption based on the fairly obvious, is considered smug, what adjective
would you then attach to the target of that assumption, your own action
Pointing out an obvious misalignment, is not smug, not of itself anyway. The
manner in which it’s pointed out, could be perceived as such (if you actually
understood the meaning of your intended slight) Though honestly, shouldn't
apply here.

How sadly ignorant is this statement. Having said that, knock yourself
out! Ignore away and concede the deeper understanding to others

Pizzas are fine, we're humans, we eat - but I must agree, the best of us
don't eat pizzas
Forum is fine, as we're just a handful to participate.
We're missing people who talk, like you - thank you!
A "better forum" isn't an incentive which will provide more / more
interesting discussions. And I'll hate to see signatures and animated gifs
BTW
BrickLink has FAR major concerns to process before a forum evolution IMO.

If we did signatures, mine would be this. I am so disappointed in this one change
with the new UI. Daniel is the reason we are all here.
There is still the history link, and the offsite link with his name, at the bottom
of every forum post page, and the front page, many help pages, search pages,
etc.
If we did signatures, mine would be this. I am so disappointed in this one change

Call a spade a spade, Daniel is the reason TLG has Bricklink, why bricklink exists,
a part of the primary and secondary Lego sales and the list goes on.
"You are right he is the reason we are all here". But the truth is far
deeper than that.
The story of the Kristiansen story gets hammered home By TLG damn they even made
a Lego set after his house (4000007).
Daniel should not be cast aside. Perhaps Bricklink could design a 1 off Bricklink
BDP set for Daniel, restrict it to 20,000 copies. Do not have a 30 day funding
period. 2Ok get made, 20k get sold.
Plenty of gifted members who could and would love to assist would.
So true. There's very little worth reading or commenting on lately. Doesn't
help that Bricklink does nothing to promote the forum.
