I received my first Paid ! status since this started happening to sellers a couple
of weeks ago.
My big worry since this all started is that sellers that use third party store
management systems that utilize the API will not be informed of the Paid ! status.
Here is the API response I get back on the Paid ! Order which shows only a Paid
status and funds received. This is not showing reality as Paypal still has the
funds as Pending.
Buyer sees this message on their Paypal transaction: "Your payment method
will be charged when Ralph's Bricks and Minifigs completes your order."
which goes against the guidance provided in the Bricklink Help Pages: " Paid
/ Pending - Payment has been submitted but is still being confirmed by PayPal
(typically due to an eCheck payment). Please do not ship until payment is confirmed.
When PayPal confirms that the payment has cleared, the pending payment icon will
no longer show next to the order payment status. " https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=121&q=status
Has there been any official word from Bricklink on why this is occurring so frequently
lately?
Can we please update the API to return a status other than PAID for pending transactions
so sellers aren't potentially sending out free parts?
Not sure if this is related to this, but I just received an order and the status
went straight to 'shipped'. On the order page itself however status was
'Paid'

Have you tried to disable e check payments on your PayPal to stop these types
of payments? Tho the payments usually aren’t e-transfer, PayPal’s backend may
group them all together as currently it’s only very limited testing but it’s
possible that disabling that feature prevents all paid! Orders

Yes echecks are blocked on my account.
Thankyou for confirming, guess it’s been a coincidence to this point

I posted how it happens, I can make a bogus order from you if you want to see
it lol.
Do you know anything about this since it started at least 6 weeks ago and why
hasn't it been fixed. I just received another fake order a few minutes ago.

no, but if i had to guess it might be related to some backend changes in regards
to payment confirmation. on a side note, even tho odds are exceedingly high it
wont actually help, have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting your Paypal
to bricklink
I've had this happen 3 times. One customer wrote, a week later:
"I think I found what happened. There was an order that never came back to
me to verify and it was still sitting there it was a $5 order and until that
order was filled nothing else would happen so I went ahead and paid that $5 bill
I don't even know what I bought for $5 but I paid it so I'll be receiving
something thank you"

Welcome to the club! And sorry you joined us. I have reached out to paypal on
some of the payments and they just keep saying the buyers payment method was
unauthorized and declined I guess. If it was just 1 or 2 ok, I can understand
that but it would probably decline before an order was submitted to bricklink
since we all basically use instant checkout now. So I'm not computer savvy
enough to know who has the issue. Paypal says it's not them and bricklink
hasn't responded to any of the threads on the issue that I know of.
It has happened to us 3 times in the past 2 weeks and all three were with instant
checkout.
The weird thing is that on all three orders it shows when the payment was made
then it shows exactly 24 hour later that the payment expired and was then canceled.
Anyone else have this happen where the payment expired?

Jim.
Yes, it was never a payment to begin with. If the transaction is denied by paypal
it still shows as paid on BL. A scammer can use an expired CC and make 1000 orders.
Odds are some of them will arrive. I've had two arrive and I had to contact
the seller and let them know I scammed them lol

This has nothing to do with eChecks. I gave in detail why/how it happens a month
ago yet it just happened again 2 min ago.
Are they ever going to fix this? I have an order I received a week ago where
the payment never went thru. The seller didn't catch it and sent the box.
How many people are getting ripped off and have no idea?
If BL is worried about scams this seems like the easiest way to do it. You don't
even need a working CC to pull it off. In fact you need one that will not work
lol

I've now heard of multiple sellers sending out orders only to discover that
the transaction is listed as cancelled in Paypal. Why? Because the API they
use in whatever service does not indicate that the transaction is PENDING but
see it as PAID as the API sent it. So they send the order out and haven't
been paid.
