A few sellers in Canada over the last week have told me in private how badly
their sales have declined due to the Postal Strike.
They have told me buyers are cancelling orders and even traffic for Canadian's
is lower.
I tend to agree with them on the decline. Of course it is not Brick link's
fault Canadian postal workers went on strike. But a small message of support
should be given consideration the loyalty of Canadians to Bricklink.
I am generalizing likely to the ridicule of others. But there are some pretty
dumb people out there who don't realize a postal strike does not harm the
delivery mechanisms of other carriers like, UPS/Purolator/USPS and so forth.
Why cant Bricklink have a simple message on the intro screen to the site like
advising that Canadian sellers are currently shipping by other means during the
postal strike.
It doesn't have to be lengthy, even intelligent. But informative....definitely.
What do others in Canada think? Bricklink could do more?
It could be interesting to see how bricklink would approach that. On eBay, I've
gotten almost half a dozen separate messages from them already in regards to
the strike which is nice

As much as EBay charges in fees they should be sending out overnight notices
in the mail.

This is not about me lol. I couldn't care less. I ship by UPS or Purolator
via Stallion express and they also do pickups.
But the message to potential buyers that is out there is no ordering because
we won't get what we order for weeks and this is simply not true.
The result of that assumption is a lack of orders for those who rely on Orders.
I just dont think its fair that Bricklink takes its fees and yet does not support
its many sellers during such times.
Sure Bricklink provides the platform to sell and sure they should be paid for
that. But seriously? The Apathy astounds my mind.

I'm not based in Canada but do I think you're right. Unfortunately, you'll
never see something like that.
Similarly,BL could post a message when USPS raises their rates or imposes the
Holiday surcharge so buyers know why shipping is higher but you'll never
see that either.
It is irrelevant to most of the world, so they'd have to do region specific
warnings unless they want to show irrelevant warnings to their customers.
Sellers can put a message in their own store to warn their prospective customers
if industrial action is likely to cause delay or there is a need to use a different
courier. If BL did it for site wide for something happening in Canada, should
they also monitor situations in every country where they have registered sellers
and flag up any similar warnings to all users. I'd find those messages annoying
because the vast majority would be irrelevant, to the point I wouldn't bother
looking at them so wouldnt see something when there is a relevant warning. Whereas
if I enter a particular store then a warning is more relevant if it affects them
and the seller can already put their own message up if they want to. And the
seller can control that message rather than have a blanket nessage from BL.
It is irrelevant to most of the world, so they'd have to do region specific
warnings unless they want to show irrelevant warnings to their customers.
Agreed. There's everytime problems everywhere.

^this
And BL isn't Google News; I'm sure Canadians know they've got this
specific problem.
Much more, I think BrickLink could have far higher priorities.
Like implementing a communication/filtered message system for the newbies, etc

I do feel for Canadians in Alberta, as they really don't have many alternatives
and certainly don't vote for the kind of policies that led to the postal
strike.
Personally, I almost never buy from Canada, and when I do it is from sellers
that use some type of third party intermediary to cross the border and ship USPS.
That Canada Post charges like $8 for tracking is insanely greedy.
If it is any consolation, the US postal system is experiencing similar problems
with insolvency and rural delivery has slowed by an additional day.

Agreed. Like your "Pirate Ship" we now Have "stallion" which
links with all the majors and gives the speediest option to Buyers. Such as ICS/UPS/DHL/Purolator
etc etc. I find it easier to stay away from traditional postage methods. They
are cheaper, faster and that is what the buyer ever wants. The relationships
are symbiotic, we all need each other

One hard part is even though I want to support our Canadian friends during this
is that I don't know who's able to ship and who is remote enough that
it really impacts them. For example Nubs you have a bunch of stuff in your store
that meets my wish lists but you do state that all deliveries are impacted due
to the strike. It's a little confusing for us on the outside to know who
can use other sources for shipping and who can't.
One hard part is even though I want to support our Canadian friends during this
is that I don't know who's able to ship and who is remote enough that
it really impacts them. For example Nubs you have a bunch of stuff in your store
that meets my wish lists but you do state that all deliveries are impacted due
to the strike. It's a little confusing for us on the outside to know who
can use other sources for shipping and who can't.
I good way to tell is if the Canadian store has tracked shipping to the USA starting
at roughly the $6-$8 range. As for my store I was hoping that "Canada Post
Strike! Please note this only affects select Canadian shipments." line would
help but ill work on updating it so it's more clear. but yes currently all
international shipments remain undelayed from my store so thankyou for considering

I am still on a 3 day window from Calgary to Toronto on Orders using Stallion/ICS.
Whom I might add in my circumstances are cheaper than Canada Post.
