How much do I pay someone for a set that I'm going to resell to make a profit?
I'm thinking pay them 60% of value? Any help or advice would be helpful.
How fast do you want to make a profit and how much of a profit?

Thinking 40% profit? Is that resonable? Quickness doesn't matter.

if you want a 40% profit then buying it at 60% wouldn't work. once fees and
such are all factored in you would need to buy at closer to 40-50% of what you
sell it for.

What is a reasonable profit? I'm buying these sets from friends, I don't
want to complete rip them off, lol.

if its with close friends/family it might be best to do a commission method.
for example you list the item and then once it sells you figure out all your
costs associated with it and then take a % of the profit for your role in selling
it and then pay them the rest

I like that idea!! How much % would you take??
since you have no money upfront the % is lower. I believe last time I checked,
the market rate is somewhere between 20%-30%

If something at FMV is worth $100 dollars and you buy it for 60% of its value
($60), then a 40% profit on what you paid ($60) is $24, meaning that you only
need to resell it for $84 to make your desired profit margin of 40%. If you were
to actually resell it at the FMV of $100, then your profit margin would be 66.7%
([$100-$60]/$60). So, if you really only want to make a 40% profit on something
that is worth $100 at FMV, you should pay someone about $71.43 for it (or FMV/1.4).

Isn't math fun.
Math is fun! But don’t forget about selling fees, packing materials, etc
but yes, your right my math was off by about 15%-20%

Margin is actually (1 - cost / sell price) so $60 to $84 would be a gross margin
of 28.57%
Markup is (1 - sell price / cost) so $60 to $84 is a gross markup of 40%
TLR
Margin is the % of the sale price that is profit.
Markup is the ROI
