Every time I try to upload a custom ID card pic, an error 403 forbidden page
keeps popping up, even though the photo meets the specifications for uploads,
being 125x125 and is a jpg w under 50 kb of data and also entering the code.
Does anyone know what causes this issue? I recently opened a Bricklink account
so I don't really know the website too well.

bricklink loves to throw that error up when some size or format is wrong. try
a different image format or such and that might fix it

Hi,

There’s been problems for some time with uploading images in some places (especially
the forum).
It may help if you use another application to re-save you image, or use another
format (.gif instead of .jpg).

Also, what size exactly is your file?

“50KB” could mean 50,000 Bytes, that’s 48.8 kiB (kibiBytes), which is what will
be shown, well, about everywhere.
(The difference is ki = 1,024, while k = 1,000.  Computer stuff….)

So if your computer says “49”, it may be over the limit for ID pics.

It doesn't work here with a .jpg of 47,3 Kb (48 518 bytes) I wanted to post
in Forum
the other day. I just retried, same 403.
It's 620 x 441 px.

I reduced it a bit, to about 40 Kb 587x407 and it worked.

I'm completely puzzled by what's works / not (criteria ?) in Forum.

While it shows when posting: "Click on Browse to locate the file on your
computer.
Your image must be in .jpg, .gif or .png format. You can upload up to 8 images
per post.
Maximum image size allowed is 2 MBytes."

The forum doesn’t limit or process the images the same way as the ID pic.
1. It’s “2 MBytes” (2,097,152 Bytes?), not “50 KB”.
2. Dimensions are not officially limited but the images are downsized to 640 pixels
in width.
3. When the ulodaing problems started, just after changes in the aftermath of
the November incident, I was almost 100% sure it was only when the image was
wider than 640 pixels that the uploading sometimes failed.
I verified at the time and again not long ago that when your image was below
640 pixels, it was uploaded as-is (that is, if you download it once the message
is posted, then it’s the exact same file).
And I surmised it was something in the image headers/options that made the
“resizer” fail.

Now… I don’t know.
Your image shouldn’t have to be resized, so it’s not the “resizer” only anymore.
Maybe they “fixed” it the BrickLink way?

If it's a file you've altered beyond resizing, relocate it and reboot
your browser after altercations and before trying to upload again. If that then
doesn't work, ask Milissa: https://www.bricklink.com/contact.asp?u=MMillere

Btw, welcome! I look forward to seeing your ID card pic once approved

That's "alterations"
