I use to only buy with discount codes and even then it was still a bit pricey
for what they were offering IMO).

I bought there twice and both times they took 20+ days to arrive and the condition
was terrible
When (at least when I bought from there) you sign up for an account they will/would
give you a coupon for $10 - $20 off your order. Not sure if they still do that
any more though.

They charge a fortune for shipping , more than what I was expecting and it's
not a cheap way to get parts. It's also more widely known now so there is
alot of competition for lego lots.

Better finds on ebay 99% of the time, IMO.
I sell all sorts of toys and vintage items beyond lego, and this also holds up
for those too. For some reason people think they are getting a deal on goodwill
and the auctions often end way too high.
I know some stores offer pickup so that may help offset costs.
Also there have been many accusations of shill bidding.

Some Goodwills list on eBay. You have some protection on eBay if you get a box
of crap LEGO.

I’ve had luck buying a box of random “sealed bags” there. So they’re all new
parts. I only order when they have free shipping, though, because their shipping

Several years ago we purchased a lot of Lego from them thru their auctions and
we received a lot of really good boxes full Lego and most boxes contained a good
amount of minifigures which made it worth it. At that time there were many thru
out the country that separated out all the minifigures and auctioned them off
separately so we stayed away from any of those locations but as time went on,
even the locations that didn't separate them started to and now most all
locations do. We stopped buying Lego from Goodwill because of their selling the
figs separate. You need the minifigures to make it worth it.

There are different Goodwill sites.
1.) Bluebox is absolute trash last couple times I have bought from them (this
was a year ago). It depends where the box comes from. Tennessee is horrible.
You will get the worst of the worst. On the other hand, the first box I got was
from Ohio and had 2 pounds of collectible minifigs in it.
IMHO, you should never buy a lot blind without seeing it.
2.) Goodwill Finds is pretty bad. Everything is super picked through and overpriced.
I have personally seen them salt lots. One time they put a LOTR minifigure on
top that they know is brittle brown cracked to make you think you are getting
a deal. (was the only minifigure in the lot)
3.) Shop Goodwill has some deals.
You have to remember that each Goodwill is a franchise, so it depends on the
store. Some are extremely dishonest (Pay the CEO a million $ and pay disabled
employees pennies), others are fair (reasonable executive pay, actually try to
help the community). I would suggest starting to research your local goodwill
franchises within driving distance so that you aren't paying shipping. Some
separate figs, some don't. You have to have the inside scoop.
Seriously though, I've exactly zero experience with this type of dealing.
That said, I should imagine it's down to a region and even specific location
(in how they run things) question.
Region: in what's coming in, i.e. affluent neighborhoods?
Specific locations: not allowing volunteers to pilfer and/or cheery-pick donated
lots beforehand, among other managerial factors.
They are having a 50% off clearance sale with a good amount of bulk Lego available
in the clearance category, in case anyone is interested in spite of the potential
for hair LOL.
