This afternoon 8/26/24 I received the following message:
"Hi,
I am very sorry to tell you that I had shipped the wrong order to you. Your order
has been shipped to you by the other seller. Can you please ship the package
that you get to the correct buyer, I will refund you all costs that you incur
for shipping supplies and shipping costs.
The address of the right buyer is
[Real name and address Redacted]"
I am seeing red flags because:
1) My tracking does not even show that USPS has acknowledged the package. At
this point, I have no proof anything has actually been sent.
2) The message references the "other seller" is shipping the order.
3) I don't think sellers should be sharing buyer's real name and address
with someone else without asking the buyer if they are OK with it first. If there
is an issue like this, shouldn't the buyer simply return the order to the
seller, then the seller has the responsibility to sort it out (refund/sending
correct items/etc)?
What do you all think? How would you proceed? Am I overthinking this and the
seller's request is reasonable? If it helps, the seller has 9,388 orders
with 4,863 feedback of which 99.46% is positive.

in and out of itself its not that "rare" of a thing. I'm not sure
if tehcnicly the seller is allowed to share the name/address however it is something
that does happen every now and then. its possible that they sent your package
to a separate buyer who was also a seller which would explain the "your order
has been shipped to you by the other seller" message.
as for if you should simply return it to the seller that should be 100% something
you can do. as for the tracking not being updated that is interesting. here in
Canada when i shipped directly with Canada post sometimes packages wouldn't
be scanned for up to a week if dropped off a a major branch but i suspect that
isn't normal in the USA so id let the seller know about the tracking and
then let them know what you will do (either return or forward the package) once
it arrives.
best of luck!

As a seller, I have made the mistake of sending swapping orders and sending them
the order of the other one. I then contacted both buyer and requested they ship
the orders to each other. They always agreed and then, I shared their name and
addresses with each other.
For package, I created shipping labels and sent the pdfs.
For small orders shipped as mailer with no tracking, I requested them to ship
and then, I gave them refunds after they shipped ($2 each).
As a buyer, I have received other people's orders a few times too. I cooperate
with sellers and shipped the order to the other buyer or to seller.
I am seeing red flags because:
1) My tracking does not even show that USPS has acknowledged the package. At

This is not a red flag. Come on!
You have not received anything. He requested you to ship the order that you will
receive. You cannot ship something that you have not received!
2) The message references the "other seller" is shipping the order.
I don't understand what you mean.
3) I don't think sellers should be sharing buyer's real name and address
with someone else without asking the buyer if they are OK with it first. If there
is an issue like this, shouldn't the buyer simply return the order to the
seller, then the seller has the responsibility to sort it out (refund/sending

You can return to the seller, but that's unnecessary and waste of money and
time.
What do you all think? How would you proceed? Am I overthinking this and the
seller's request is reasonable? If it helps, the seller has 9,388 orders
with 4,863 feedback of which 99.46% is positive.
The seller is established and has a very good record. I trust him fully.
You can request him to create a shipping label (with UPS or USPS depending on
which one is more convenient for you. Are you close enough to a USPS shop or
a UPS shop?)
Once he send you a shipping label, you only need to print it and send it to you
via a post office and you won't need to pay anything.
Extra measures for protection (if the order's value is high):
- Also make sure he ships your actual order. Ask him if he has shipped the order
and what is the tracking number of your order.
- communicate via BL and on the order's page (not separate message) so that
everything is registered.
But again, based on his feedback, I trust him. He made a mistake. So I would
cooperate with him. Don't forget: we are buying and selling Lego and it is
supposed to be fun
2) The message references the "other seller" is shipping the order.
I'm positive the seller just made a mistake here and wrote seller instead
of buyer.
3) I don't think sellers should be sharing buyer's real name and address
with someone else without asking the buyer if they are OK with it first. If there

I agree but sounds like addresses have already been shared.

Likely a typo that should say the "other buyer".

Maybe they did, you don't know.
If there

Some sellers do this, others ask the buyers to send each other the correct packages
to save time and postage.

seller's request is reasonable? If it helps, the seller has 9,388 orders

Yes, I think you are overthinking this. I made this mistake and asked the 2 buyers
to do this too. If you aren't comfortable with the seller sharing your address
with the other buyer, ask the seller to have the other buyer send your order
back to the seller.

If you are uncomfortable with it, wait until you have received your order before
sending on the other one.

I had to do this once, I talked with both buyers and asked them if they didn't
mind sharing their address and resend the parcel they got, both agreed and I
send them the shipping labels so they would need to just drop it off.
Other time the shipping company misplaced 2 shipping labels in a warehouse and
my buyer got some shoes, that one I had to reship as we couldn't contact
the other person.

When the package arrives to you, do not open it. Hand it back to the mail carrier
and tell them you are refusing it. That will show on tracking when it gets returned.
At this point there is no indication (one way or the other) that a scam is happening,
but tracking needs to show what is actually happening.

What kind of scam do you imagine is taking place?
It could be a scam in that you send the order on to someone else (known to the
seller) and never receive anything back. The seller has proof of delivery, but
you then shipped it to someone else so are unlikely to be covered if you claim
not to have received anything. This is unlikely if it is a decent seller with
history. But if it was a new seller (or on ebay or anywhere else), I'd return
to the seller and let them deal with sending the correct parcel.
Another possibility is that a scammer sends you a package with tracking (it could
be junk inside). They then say that they sent you the wrong one, and you should
ship it to someone else when you receive it, saying another buyer will ship your
package to you. They might say don't open it. Both buyers then get a package
full of junk and the scammer could claim to each buyer that the other person
switched it for junk and it is not their fault. They have proof of delivery.
Whether a claim for not as described would work, who knows, as these are different
packages to what was sent to you.
It is unlikely that this is happening especially if the seller has a good history.
But it is a possibility. It might be best to open it to check what is inside.
If it is junk, it is almost certainly a scam. If it looks like a normal order,
chances are it is not a scam.
But I'd want to receive my order before shipping it to a random person. Even
if the seller is decent, you don't know about the honesty of the other buyer.
Who knows whether the other buyer will ship to you or remove some of your order
before shipping it to you, or send you junk. Of course if both buyers want to
do that then it is stalemate and should then be done by shipping back to the
seller at their expense and up to them to correct the mess they made.

Yes, I agree that these are possibilities, but they seem kind of far-fetched.

I imagine it is not a scam but I'd be vigilant when something is not right,
especially if it was an expensive order. Scams that work tend to work because
the person scammed thought everything was OK and didn't question something
that probably seems believable or that someone would go to such lengths to scam
seems too farfetched.

Of course one should be vigilant but refusing delivery seems a bit extreme.

They said it was roughly $60 so it’s not like it’s a “break the bank” type scam.

Indeed. With the odds being so incredibly low of it being a scam it would “worth
the risk” similar to how if you go for a bike ride you “might” get in an accident
but odds are so low so you still go for a ride similar to this how it “might”
be a scam but you can always find the “might” in anything

The thought had crossed my mind to just mark the wrong box as RTS and let USPS
send it back, and not give a reason like "Refused," but thought I'd
ask around before being rash haha.

Maybe. I do know the label was created for my address because it was automatically
added by USPS to my Informed Delivery account. A second label should have also
been added even if they didn't tell me, but I don't see anything, although
we all know USPS.
Wow, this definitely got more attention then I was expecting
It seems like a conscious is to roll with it and send the package on if I do
receive it.
Mail was already come and gone for the day and no packages or updated tracking.
I neglected to mention that I go have an Informed Delivery Account, in which
USPS is supposed to automatically adding any tracked package addressed to my
address to the account. Part of my concern was also I have nothing to show any
new package expected in addition to the old package having no scans. That being
said, we all have USPS stories so it may be possible two packages are coming
to me and their system isn't picking it up.
I think the best course of action is to wait to see if anything arrives over
the next few days and take it from there. Now if we get into the week past Labor
Day and nothing at all has arrived or updated in tracking as moving, we might
need to return to this conversation.

Follow my general rule of don't buy from sellers with feedback rating under
99.5% and you will never have problems.
The seller you are referring to, (who is easy to identify given the rough feedback
score, feedback percent, and state) I have on my least favorite store list.
He does make mistakes.
I placed two orders around two years ago. Both orders had problems.
1.) 1st Order (Bricklink) was for 3x4 CMF tiles. He stacked 300 or so tiles on
top of each other (took me a long time to get them all apart). The bigger problem
was that he lied about postage so he would pay less for the shipping label.
2.) 2nd Order (BrickOwl) was for some Tatooine Luke Skywalker minifigures. I
am quite certain they had counterfeit (reprinted) torsos and legs, given that
I have purchased hundreds from different sellers over the past two years. It
looked like someone had clumsily used a Dremel on them, printing was very off
and you could see the irregularity of the surface underneath the torso pattern.
He issued me a refund, so whatever, it is his business, not mine.
So yes, I could certainly see this individual mixing up orders and shipping to
the wrong person.
What is concerning is that the package hasn't gotten a scan in a week, which
is highly unusual.
Personally, I would worry about getting your package first and making sure that
everything is all right with it. I would give it about 2 weeks from your ship
date before filing an NSS.
As to the other buyers order, you could ship it to the other address or you can
leave the package unopen and mark it refused so it is sent back to the original
sender.

Thanks for letting me know of your experience. I actually had a previous order
with this seller. I must not have thought anything was wrong, normally I leave
no feedback and least favorite when there's a problem.
The happy ending (for me) is they were telling the truth about someone else receiving
my order and sending it me- I got the automatic addition to my USPS account a
few days ago and it arrived today. Everything is accounted for, thank goodness
for honest Bricklinkers
Now for whatever was sent to me, I still have no scans to prove actual shipping
and no box either. I'm just going to let them now they probably need to sort
it with USPS directly if they think it was actually shipped.
