I found this cardboard piece in a lot I picked up. Not sure how to identify it
as it has no part or set numbers anywhere on it. Hoping to be able to sell it,
would anyone be able to help identify it?

Thanks!

Identical at least in some aspects, if not overall reminiscent of this:

Gear No: p78ukt Name: Town Poster 1978 with Contest (99.418-UK-B)
*
p78ukt Town Poster 1978 with Contest (99.418-UK-B)
Gear: Poster: Town
A further clue anyway

In my upper post:
with visual part number I meant an internal lego number/code
like with set 551 this is 191100

I took some pictures of my cardboard.

correct!

dimensions are 31,8cm x 26cm

there is no visual part number visible
there may be one under the folded side on the other side of the cardboard (where
the baseplate is)

I've only the one from set 6375 that came in a lot empty baseplate boxes
(cardboard)

Set No: 6375 Name: Gas Station
*
6375-2 (Inv) Gas Station

Was it always included?  Because I don't have it and I don't remember
having it.  I was young at the time and my mum didn't want me to keep my
boxes but I kept the lids (yeah, sacrilege 😭), so I think I would have kept
such a cardboard too.

Hi Sylvain
Well I can't answer this question.
I think this was not always included.
And maybe not in all countries where this set(s) were available?

Yes and it may also have been the usual “we put them in until we don't have
any more to put in”

I was just wondering if I lucked out (it wasn't there) or if I lost it (and
there'd then be some blame to distribute).

Hi Sylvain,

For our countries we could only get this one from set 381 the other 2 are for
the US sets 588 and 6375.
But, either it was only overseas available?? Because Canada also had set 381.

I don't know if there are more.

The only thing I remember is that with sets with baseplates it was in the cellophane
at the bottom of the box (example 377, 379, 7834)

Set No: 377 Name: Shell Service Station
*
377-1 (Inv) Shell Service Station
180 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1978
Sets: Town: Classic Town: Gas Station

Set No: 379 Name: Bus Station
*
379-1 (Inv) Bus Station
154 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 1979
Sets: Town: Classic Town: Traffic

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V
And as you know the boxes became a bit bigger in the 80s and the baseplate was
inside the box.

Set No: 6384 Name: Police Station
*
6384-1 (Inv) Police Station
369 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 1983
Sets: Town: Classic Town: Police

Yeah, I had 381
I still have the instructions and, I think, the box's lid.

Nope, I didn't know
I was too young to notice anything like that at the time, and now I'm not
into buying back my childhood, so it's only my memory of what happened 45
years ago or so
It seems the size for 381 is enough to contain everything (34 x 26.5 x 5 cm).

I just think that, if I had the scene, I'd have noticed and kept it.  It's
not like the baseplates cardboards that have writings on them.  I'm about
sure I'd have kept it.
So that means I didn't have it
