This is my first week open and I have received 6 orders! I know that some of
the things that have sold were more desirable though such as Sauron, the Mouth
of Sauron, and the helmets from Barad Dur. I was wondering if there was a specific
"goal" to aim towards as far as pieces and lots are concerned. Thank
y'all for the advice so far this week!

In general roughly (tho this can vary massively) about 10,000 unique non duplicate
lots and about 100,000 parts are needed for consistent sales

Thank you for the response! That seems like the general consensus so that will
be my eventual goal. I am trying to get to 50,000 parts first and right now,
I’m at almost 5,000 lots. As far as unique lots, do you include the same part
as new vs used as a unique lot because obviously consolidation doesn’t work on
that?

New/used is fine. it’s more so referring to the stores who post for example a
new technic pin with a qty of 2-3 but instead of all in 1 lot they list them
in 10, 20, 50, 100, etc lots to increase their stores lot count

Oh ok, I hate when I'm browsing stores and their inventory is like that.
I make sure to try to consolidate everything but miss a couple here and there.
When I run across those errors, I just consolidate them.

5,000/50,000 should be enough for consistent sales - depending on your prices
and the desirability of your parts anyway!

I'd say there's a lot of variability to this as well. Part out 1000 sets
directly off walmart's shelves, and you'll get a lot less bang for your
lots.

I'm at ~12,000 lots and I am probably top 10 in my state, and I can say I
have been getting consistent orders since even before that mark. It's not
always about the size, it's also the motion of the ocean (how desirable your
parts are).

Indeed, the lot/item count is just 1 of many, many variables that play into it.
It’s one of bricklinks charms, to try to figure out and understand it just a
little better as you continue selling

Thank you for the reply! I try to sell both things that I find at Walmart as
well as things I get in bulk used lots. I feel like there is a market for both
and will see how it works!

It depends on the types of orders you want. As you have found, desirable minifigs
will sell fast whereas less desirable parts can sit unsold for years.

It depends on your goals.

I define consistent sales as 1 order per week, and I achieve that with 1500 lots.
Or do you define consistent sales as an amount say, 100 euro per month regardless
of the number of orders? Is it number of parts sold so you are turning over
your inventory?

In any case, everyone defines it for themselves and then determines the path
to get there.
