Got a Lego Insiders email today announcing the new Lego "Brick Take Back"
program. I for one am curious to see where this is headed? Is Lego trying to
get into the used Lego brick market? Makes me wonder! How about the rest of you?

TLG seems to offering $4 (in credit) per pound for used bricks. very low offer.
Especially if mini-figs are mixed into the lots.
Just curious as to what they would do with bulk Lego as it invariably contains
non Lego items.
I always find all sorts in there and the usual non Lego brand bricks etc.
Who is going to check and sort what’s offered or will they pass it on unchecked,
not a good idea as I have found spent bullet casings in one lot.

It's a very good offer compared to brick and mortar stores that offer $2
per pound

pretty sure that's their program for donating lego to kids in need. and no
I'm 100% confident that lego will never get into the used-selling game. its
simply not worth their time even if they invested millions in machines

yes i agree, they aren't reselling as just making new bricks is probably
cheaper anyhow.

Agreed, most likely the charity thing I mentioned earlier this year.

This was an April Fool's joke posted on a website a few years ago.
Would beware of phishing. The reddit thread on this topic was deleted, because
the offer couldn't be confirmed as coming from LEGO.

for added context. a lookup shows the site was created just 1 month 1 day ago
"Registered On 2024-06-25" so if this was from lego then it would be
weird as they likely would have had this in the works for possibly years rather
than just 1 month for the time period they used to secure the domain

tho whats interesting is that it is registered in billund denmark and the signup
emails do end with @lego.com so this "might" be real (tho I cant visit
the site as it isn't active in Canada)

but then on the flip site the site registration expires in just 1 year which
is really weird as that's on of the if not the shortest period of time you
can usually register it for. meanwhile, most major companies go for 5 years minimum
or so. so this is very confusing as to if its real or not

the terms mention you can do this trade-in IN-PERSON at these 2 lego store locations:
LEGO Store Colorado Mills, 14500 W Colfax Ave, Lakewood, CO 80401
LEGO Store Sugarloaf Mills, 5900 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA 30043
easy enough to call one of the stores and see if they are indeed offering this
program. I'm leaning towards yes as the website and registration and terms
all seem legit so far.

LEGO Replay is definitely real, I send them boxes of LEGO that’s not good enough
for my shop and not useful to either my own collection or a kindergarten class.
But it’s a donation - you don’t even get a tax receipt. In Canada the parts are
washed and sorted by Give Back Box in Toronto and are given to charities.
The selling back used for $4/lb to TLG was the April Fool’s joke.

Just called the Atlanta store. The store manager confirmed that they are one
of two locations in North American buying brick back for store credit. Yay!!

If you look at what they do, they help companies "Drive repeat revenues from
your products and customers."
It appears they may be recycling all of these old Lego parts into new Lego parts.
ABS is reusable, maybe these pentatonic folks figured out how to sort different
plastics efficiently.
However, I am skeptical that this isn't just some clever marketing and a
way to feed the insatiable need for more and more data.
