Hi. Just a heads up but you are only supposed to post sales once a month.
Same sell started on Friday. Just letting people know that the sell is over
soon. Thanks!

Hi. Just a heads up but you are only supposed to post sales once a month.
They are fine as their last sales thread before this thread was April 26th.
Sellers are not allowed to start multiple new threads per month about sales but
are allowed to add to an existing thread.
Mmmh - I know that when you start a sale it makes your message have a chance
to be on BrickLink main page.
But when, like in this case, you reply to it - does it also gives you a chance
to be on the main page?
In this case it's kind of an abuse, as you could reply every 2 days for a
month if you wish (and Mods don't realize)...
This was the notification.
The policy has been changed from a maximum of one per day to a maximum of
one
per month. Please see the screenshot below.
Sellers posting more frequently may incur a friendly flooding ban for one month.
These are non-cumulative bans and will not go on your record. Bans will be lifted
immediately if the member contacts us and lets us know they agree to the new
policy.
Only the initial post in a thread counts toward the total Sales posts. Replies
will not count unless it is obvious that someone is posting to circumvent the
new policy.
I don't think the reminder is posting to circumvent the policy. They are
not flooding the forum like some people were, posting new threads every day or
multiple times a day (and often doing fake sales too).

Yes, but this doesn't say if that makes the post appear in main page or not.

I'm not talking about OP of course, just in a general meaning; could posting
replies may abuse of the main page or not?

First, replies don’t appear on the front page. So the question becomes: Does
a reply bumps the thread and make the first post appear on the main page?
And I doubt it does, notably because:
1. I did see it happen,
2. as far as I know and could verify¹ (and it’s alo what I tell sellers), you
need to post a new thread in Sales to make it appear on the front page. Moving
the post afterward doesn’t (seem to) do it.
———
¹ The posts one sees depend on one’s location and “the seller’s good standing².”
² “Your account must be in good standing with BrickLink and your customers. If
you have had unresolved problem orders within the past six months, overdue bills,
or are blocked by users, you decrease your chances of being recommended.” — https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2443
Note that it says “chances.” Rather vague….

I agree.

In practice, we don't have so many sales per day, so, even for a relatively
short time (a few hours), this sale should appear in main page.
The other point is; does that motivate any buyer to place visit and/or place
an order?
I'd say chances are very few...
People often come because they've heard about you, know you, or have a Wanted
List.

AFAIU, location (and ships to me?) is also a parameter in the “chances.”

Yes. It seems those who read the forum are more annoyed than anything about
sales posts.
And those who don’t read the forum… well, do they scroll down on the main page
instead?
And who waits for Sales to shop? Who shops without knowing what they want?
Who does window shopping on BL?
The only case that comes to my mind for actively reading the sales topic is when
you’re a seller and want to see if there’s a good deal to grab.
Otherwise, you have a WL with notifications or that you check regularly.
I mean, for me, at most, a sales post triggers a visit to the shop when I’ve
a WL that may be ready to be bought and I haven’t tried to buy it for a while.
But then, it generally ends with “Yikes! This store does not have any matches”
or with a check with Auto-select/the PG to see if the prices are that interesting
(which is rarely).
OTOH, sellers wants to advertize their shop and it’s the only way they can do
that on BL.
Outside of BL, ads is how it works. There’s comparison shopping websites but
they are not as complete and comprehensive as BL’s PG and Buy page and I’m not
sure how much people use them.
So if you don’t think this way (yet), if you don’t get that WLs and the PG are
how you buy on BL, maybe you think those posts are useful.

Agree with everything.

The first way being the items upload notifications I'd say.

We paid Facebook to send some "ads" (they were cool) for 6 months, few
years ago.
I'm not sure it had provoked a single order, and will never know,
but kind of zero change in sales, or nothing that Facebook ads would explain.
Same for some advertising/partnership on Youtube, I'm not sure it's worth.
And anyway it's 100% NOT worth as BL doesn't permit (anymore) to "track"
from where an order comes from. I have/had 2 partners ID (IIRC the name) with
BrickLink, for a few years I could see people using those specific links, but
it's not working for years now.

AIUI, FB ads are supposed to be targeted… but I’ve seen a couple anecdotes saying
the only visits they generated were from people clicking on them by error (less
than 5s on their site = just enough time for the page to load and realizing you
clicked wrong).
All that big data and tracking and blah and there doesn’t seem to be much evidence
it’s actually working 🙄
