I have now had a couple international buyers that have listed their VAT ID number
at the top of the order. Bricklink does not require that a VAT invoice be printed
off and stuck on the package when this happens. My question is why do they not
have to pay VAT up front but if I order from someone internationally I have to
pay the VAT? Why can't I put in my tax ID number? This makes no sense to
me at all. ( and I am being nice in stating it this way) It is bad enough that
I have to pay US taxes when I have a sales tax number. IT has never made sense
to me that people have to pay tax when buying from a different country.
Someone needs to get this fixed. Playing the "it's not fair card"
it really isn't fair that some have to pay and some do not. No one with
a tax/VAT number should have to pay. We have waited long enough for this to
be resolved.

Wait what? Confused?
It's NORMAL EU Buyers may have to pay (or not) depending their amateur/pro
status when Importing (from US) and depending the amount (under 150€ IIRC).
From US buying in EU, you DON'T have to pay for ANY VAT for any reason, and
never have had too.
That's it.

Sorry you are wrong. Last order I got from Germany I had to pay $38.21 in tax.
Order from Singapore was $10.07 tax. Germany again tax was 6.71. I could go
on and on from all different parts of the world.

I'm paying taxes on international orders. I believe I paid a hefty amount
when I ordered from Nubs not too long ago. Do you mean you're being double
taxed?

If you are sick of the taxes then don’t ship there if tax is killing profit.
I’m considering not shipping to the US thanks to the cost of shipping.
Sales Tax is "normal" for you in USA to pay, not VAT.
You said: "but if I order from someone internationally I have to pay the
VAT?"
No, you din't have to pay any VAT.
I think Connie is complaining because BrickLink supports VAT exemptions for European
buyers with a VAT number but not sales tax exemptions for American buyers with
a sales tax number, which is a grievance some have passionately expressed in
the forum: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1268303
Connie is confusing sales tax with VAT. Americans pay sales tax; Europeans pay
VAT. Canadians pay GST/HST/PST/QST.
To Connie: Sales tax applies to everything you buy regardless of where it comes
from. Europeans still pay VAT on things they buy from other countries.

I couldn't follow what you mean:
Are you just referring to purchasing from others? If so, I believe you are always
charged Sales tax but you never have to pay VAT on top of sales tax. Are you
being charged VAT in addition to sales tax? If so, then I believe that is wrong
and should be fixed.
P.S. if you are exempt of paying any sales tax, that's a different story.
This is a little confusing, do you mean that you are paying Minnesota state taxes
when you make purchases? I am a seller from Canada, and when I get an order from
some of the states, there is a state tax that some folks have to pay. Whether
it comes from the EU, Canada or anywhere, you live in MN so you pay taxes on
your purchases. BL collects those taxes for your state. EU folks have to display
a VAT ID for their business purposes whether you are affected by the VAT or not.
Hopefully I understood correctly and this helps a little?

I have a sales tax number which means I do NOT have to pay taxes on product for
resale. However, Bricklink has not fixed this yet and so we have to pay tax.
I do not think we should also have to pay tax when we buy internationally as
well.
So point is those with a sales tax number should not have to pay taxes anywhere.
As stated before Bricklink is suppose to fix this. They have not. So my question
was why do some international people have the option to give their VAT number
and not pay taxes and the rest of us can't.

I have a sales tax number which means I do NOT have to pay taxes on product for
resale.
I know this varies by state, but in Florida, retail stores do not have to accept
a Resale Certificate - therefore they charge sales tax.
Additionally there are steps you can take (at least in my State) to try and get
a refund for sales tax on items bought for resale. I've not actually tried
it so I'm not certain if it actually works, but the option is there.
