Part No: 3688  Name: Slope 75 2 x 2 x 2 Quadruple Convex
*
3688 Slope 75 2 x 2 x 2 Quadruple Convex
Parts: Slope

The description for this part says that it can have either a blocked open stud
or a hollow stud. To me, having one entry for a part that appears to have two
versions is a problem. For sellers, there is no way to list the two variations
separately, and for buyers there is no way to know what version they will be
receiving in an order.

This can be a problem if a buyer needs one version, but receives the other. Please
create a second catalog entry so sellers can differentiate the two versions in
their store listings. I would recommend the following...

3688a - Slope 75 2 x 2 x 2 Quadruple Convex with Blocked Open Stud
3688b - Slope 75 2 x 2 x 2 Quadruple Convex with Hollow Stud

bricklink recently started merging all hollow and blocked studs so its unlikely
that will be split. soon all hollow/blocked/vented heads will be merged if they
have the same pattern and so on for all parts

That's annoying!

I am working on designing a MOC that requires the hollow stud variant of this
part. I guess that I am going to have to query sellers to see if they have the
hollow stud version before I order.

Yes/no - Sellers who differentiate are supposed to describe it in description.
So you can see it in shop while searching for the part number.

sadly I've found you should probably do this anyway, as many sellers don't
bother with variants even with separate listings.

I know, I was never for the change, but some how all the lazy ergophobic sellers
won and now we live in a site of "confusion and delay"

Hi there! Are you running a string through the stud? That is the only way the
variant could matter for what you are building

This is what I am using the slope for. It's the fighter plane MOC I mentioned
a few days ago. The slope forms the nose and I want to insert the following part
into the tipe to form nose probe of sorts.

Part No: 58176 Name: Bar with Light Bulb Cover (Bionicle Barraki Eye)
*
58176 Bar with Light Bulb Cover (Bionicle Barraki Eye)
Parts: Bar

I don't know if the Bionicle Barraki Eye will properly fit in the tip of
the slope if it isn't a hollow stud.

Both versions of the part are a Hollow Stud, just that in one the bottom is a
bar from side to side and in the other the bottom is all uniformly plain.

Just to be curious, why don't you use a Cone 3942c for the nose ?

"Hollow Stud" and "Open Stud" are two completely different things,
and I think you are confusing them. A hollow stud does not have a hole all the
way through, whereas an open stud does. The slope you are looking at _never_
has an "Open Stud", so any version of the slope will function the exact
same. If you truly want an "Open Stud", you should use the following
cone:

Part No: 3942c  Name: Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Open Stud
*
3942c Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Open Stud
Parts: Cone

Blocked Open Studs and Hollow Studs have a similar footprint/shape. They should
both hold the Barraki Eye the same. Are you perhaps looking for an Open Stud?

"Blocked Open Stud" and "Hollow Stud" are currently in the process
of being merged in the entire catalog, so unfortunately, this will not occur.

Cheers,
