I recently ordered part
[p=3625]
and I believe it to be fake. It does not have LEGO or copyright symbol. If
I found it in a lot it would go in the fake bin but before I ask for a refund
from the seller I would like opinions.

I say real Lego
Agreed. Several older hair/headgear molds (and some relatively newer ones) do
not have the Lego stamp (and some extremely recent ones have almost microscopic
stamps that are really hard to find). I would say this one is probably real Lego.
Unfortunately, I have discarded some from large purchased lots under the assumption
they were fake before eventually deciding to check my own collection and realizing
some of those didn't have the Lego stamp either and I knew them to be real
Lego! The same thing is true of older arms and various other parts. It's
a struggle.

For me it's also the size of the ring for the head stud that looks off. Looks
thicker then it should be to me.

You can also take into consideration that it’s an older part that doesn’t have
many reasons to be faked.
If it was a recent design or very popular it would be more suspicious.

No doubt this part is original and probably from the early 1980's.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. Seems I may have binned quite a few authentic
parts over the years.

If you would put that part in the fake bin, then you shouldn't be sorting
LEGO.

Normally I would brush this off but... why is it that I shouldn't be sorting
LEGO exactly?
Because I came to the forum to ask for people's help on a piece that does
not have the LEGO stamp or the copyright symbol? I can show you many examples
of fake hair/headgear that only have a number and have a different looking head
stud area.
With the influx of fake parts it seems better to be overly cautious rather than
not.
Maybe you shouldn't be replying to help threads...

He may means MANY LEGO parts don't have the LEGO logo, you must know this
already, and there's a Help page about this IIRC.
Plus I don't see any (recent?) "influx of fake parts".
Finally note that not IP (licences...) or patented items (Minifgures...) aren't
"fake": they're a different brand, AFAIK.
But don't think I promote them (or buy or sell) directly or indirectly

Don't take it to heart, it's the forum after all

You got some quick and definitive feedback to your concern, no need to respond
to any further derogatory inputs, as I see it. Not who you are anyways, Doug.

"overly" over "not?" Doing the diligence in this very salient
matter is enough, you've done that ... Now turn your attention back towards
more consequential matters for you and yours.

1001bricks is right—MANY LEGO parts don't have the LEGO logo. Imagine if
that 3625 was a white one, and you had thrown out. Those things are rare! The
forum is replete with people asking if a part is fake because there's no
LEGO logo, and the vast majority of the time it's a legit part. It baffles
me that someone with a feedback score as good as yours doesn't know how differentiate
clones from real LEGO more thoroughly.
I realize that I care about this more than other AFOLs, but to me when a LEGO
part is thrown away, it's a mini little tragedy. Like a tiny voice crying
out in terror and then suddenly silenced.

Thank you!
While I must admit, I've recently been baffled by the weight / rigidity /
feel of brand new LEGO Technic pretty common parts (sorted from new sealed Sets)
which seemed to be... non LEGO
But yes, after a few years in this business (or passion) normally one could feel/know
if it seems legit or not. Then, we're all the same... but everyone's
different.

I’m well aware there is parts without the logo or copyright symbol, hence why
I asked about the part. If I thought otherwise I would have just tossed it without
asking.
I have a high feedback score because I do care and don’t want non LEGO in my
collection. I had a doubt, I figured I would ask, I got confirmation that it’s
real, it was saved. See how that worked. To me it doesn’t seem like that big
of a deal. Sorry me asking for help in the LEGO help thread caused you to be
baffled.
If you got more to say about me feel free to send it in a message.

The other thing that authentic Lego hair pieces (and maybe hats?) have, other
than a Lego logo or copyright symbol, is a number, and your piece has that.
