Funny you say that. I was obsessed with running track in hs and we all knew the
trivial info that the 1600m race wasn't a true mile being 1609m.
Fast forward to engineering degree in college where half the math on any problem
was unit conversion. SOOO many times, I used the 5280 / 1609 ratio off the top
of my head in my calculator to convert distance units and I never had to waste
precious test time to look up the conversion rate.

Here in France some have a trick to remember the mile using the sentence "Un
ciseau neuf" ("one new chisel" which sound exactly the same as "1-6-0-9".
