In a Facebook post, several buyers were talking about how they will often make
a cart in several stores, then compare and go with the one that's the best
value. Great, smart move.

BUT - when you put items in your cart, does that temporarily remove them from
the store's inventory, so they'll still be there when you checkout? If
you wait too long, might those items be snatched up by someone else?

I'm just wondering, because sometimes when I'm pulling an order (like
yesterday) I see that the order says this person bought 20 of this thing and
I should have 0 left... but I have 22 left. I know that everyone miscounts sometimes,
but by 22??? Is it possible that maybe those 22 were sitting in carts that were
waiting for checkout?

If so, then I'm scared. I re-adjusted my inventory to show that I actually
had 22 of that part left - so if those were actually in a cart and the buyer
changes their mind, those 22 will dump back into my inventory and it'll show
44 when I only have 22.

How does BL handle inventory for carts not yet checked out?

Carts don't reserve any items neither do quotes, only orders placed.

The only other way you might have items removed from your bricklink inventory
and not in an order is if you have any order in progress, that you can check
on the top right of your orders received page: "In Progress (0)" but
they rarely are kept in that limbo.

Hello All,

I too once asked this question. I have this happen WAY WAY too often to be
a typo in uploading. I only part out sets, very rarely do I ever upload items
manually. The surprising thing is how often I'm "bought out" of
an item (yet have so many extra, something hundreds). Even more surprising, is
I have created an extra space where I put all the items I have more of even though
it says qty zero, then weeks/ months later. I will get an order for that same
qty that I had extra.

I know Bricklink once played with the idea of showing a "seller" what
parts had been put into a "buyers" cart, but now even thought the link
is still there, it takes you know where. I hate this is happening to you to,
but also glad its not only me noticing this.

Thanks,
Marty

Have you checked your store listings for duplicate lots? It's very easy to
make this mistake when parting out. Search in your Store Inventory using the
Non-unique checkbox.

When you run across an anomaly in the Items Remaining data in an order, go to
the Catalog page for that item first. Look at the In My Inventory column for
a great way to see how many lots you have of each color.

Like others said: carts don't affect inventory. Parts are not reserved.

No, you are misinterpreting the information that Bricklink gives you. The order
gives you the amount left at the time of viewing/printing/downloading the order,
not the amount left at the time the order was placed. This means that if two
different customers order from the same lot, the amount reported back at the
time you look will be the amount left after both of the orders have been fulfilled.
Not that one order reflects the intermediate number.

For example: you have 50. Ali orders 20 (so at that time there are 30 left) and
Bob orders 7 (so at that time there are 50-20-7 = 23 left). If you print Ali's
order after Bob's order was placed, Bricklink will report 23 left. If you
would have printed Ali's order before Bob's order was placed, Bricklink
will report 30 left.
